My main project right now is my secret snowflake exchange fic, which I am having a lot of fun with!! But because everything I've written so far fully reveals the prompt, I'll talk about an older wip instead.

I’m still thinking about my Taskmaster fic (Your Time Starts Now) from way back during prompts fest. (And I have it on good authority that thinking about the writing is a legitimate part of the work. So basically I'm working on it constantly.)

I cut this from chapter 1 because it was an aside within an aside and we were just getting a little too far off topic (the topic was totally-platonic mouth contact for task purposes only). I’m still hoping to use it (I have ideas), but for now it lives in limbo:

Simon’s fans call themselves Snowvians. Even though he doesn’t have many fans. But he did have a minor role on a Sherlock Holmes remake that went completely off the rails. I watched the entire thing religiously, even though it didn’t make a lick of sense. At one point, Sherlock was solving a murder mystery on behalf of a ghost. It wasn't a problem until Snow’s character was revealed to be the devil, wings and tail and all. I try to hold myself back from looking at what people are saying about Snow online. But I checked after his transformation. People certainly had some interesting ideas about how he could use that tail. (And well, they weren’t wrong. Though it made watching the rest of the series significantly more distracting.)

A smidgen of my ever-growing baby, A Dangerous Affinity. In which Simon, newly aware of his feelings, is having a bit of a meltdown:

I hear Baz in my mind telling me that his wall of flame wouldn’t work in the graduation hall unless we could convince everyone to stay behind us while we clear the whole thing out. Us. We. 

Us. Him and me. Me and him. Us.

I’m also going to pop in a little bit of my @erotic-grope-fest​ piece, which several folks, from the initial snippet were like “this looks so sweet/tender”  (I’m looking at you @you-remind-me-of-the-babe​​ and @whogaveyoupermission​​​) and...yeah it is not quite gonna be that. I am in fact going to be putting forth a new entry into the “Watford era Simon and Baz stumble into having sex on the regular while they both angst about it” genre. Please prepare yourselves for it. You have some time.

“Now a good time?” he asks when I swing the door open (towel wrapped at my hips) to hiss at him.

I bluster, “What?” and then he reaches for my hand where it’s holding the towel together, and nudges it out of the way.

“Repeatability, yeah?” he says, and the towel falls to the floor.

“Wait,” you may be saying. “This does not appear spicy. Lark, what do you take me for?” It’s not you, it’s me. I retain a feeling of extreme awkwardness about posting the word cock online. We’ll get there, one tiny step at a time.

I wrote like 1800 words on Sunday night on what is turning out to be just a really difficult segment of A Dangerous Affinity. Every time I sit down to write, I delete ~300 words that I wrote the prior day that get to where I want to be, and also are very boring, and then write them over again in a completely different way, and begin another segment in the same exceedingly boring way, and reflect again, ad infinitum. All of which to say, this is a very PROCESS time for me and it’s not comfortable and also I’m very happy with what’s coming out of it. Which no one will see for (checks chapter count, checks calendar) approximately three months. That’s too long. But also doing the actual writing and the admin to edit and post a chapter every week is basically not possible for me while maintaining any kind of balance in the rest of my life. Perhaps once I finish the story I’ll start posting weekly again? I am very impatient for folks to be reading this!! Also I have spawned ideas for at least two shorter stories that will live in the ADE universe once this initial story is done. So.

Jeff Lake & Cellophane Flowers – Penny Lane

Jeff Lake & Cellophane Flowers have just released their nostalgic album “Penny Lane”.

This New York group was founded by Jeff Lake in 2015 and they’ve played all across the country. Most notably they are a regular feature of the annual Fest For Beatles Fans. They are currently signed with WBA Records, and they perform covers as well as their original compositions.

Covering The Beatles oftentimes means to measure yourself up against a true legend. This is one of the world’s most celebrated bands, and it is quite difficult to live up to what they have accomplished. Thankfully, Jeff & Cellophane Flowers managed to really nail the right tone, emotion and vibe with their renditions, shining a new light on these amazing classic songs. The melodic flourishes and additional string parts they added to their own arrangements are quite exciting: as someone who has been a fan of The Beatles for life, it’s almost emotional to hear a different spin on these classics!

On this record, the group is re-visiting all of their favorite Beatles classics. The album starts with the title track and Jeff Lake’s vocal performance is warm, inviting, and expressive. He infuses this well-loved song with his signature charisma. The Cellophane Flowers give the song a slew of intricate and sweet melodies that re-imagine this song in an entirely new way.

This is followed by “Here Comes the Sun”, with a multi-layered composition that immediately draws the listener in. What stands out about this track is that the artists’ are able to pay respect to the original while also giving it their own creative flair.

One of the standouts on the record is “In My Life”. In this track, Jeff Lake perfectly captures a raw emotional performance that makes it unforgettable. The strings accompany him on this raw and authentic journey, making “In My Life” a true album highlight.

“Within You Without You / Tomorrow Never Knows” is an experimental psychedelic mash-up of the two singles. In fact, the track even makes it to a Dreamworks Shrek playlist on Spotify alongside major acts.
