My partner's angelfish is kinda fucked up and I'm not entirely sure why or what to do? She's very bloated in the belly, redness around the head/fins, labored breathing, scales lifted on top of her head which is weird?? I'd say she's eggbound or has a bad infection but she's been trucking on like this for months now. Appetite is great (almost too great) and activity level is fairly normal. She just looks terrible.

Accidentally posted to the wrong blog. Here’s progress pics of peppers scrape healing. Took about a week to look all better (still waiting on some scales to grow back) but here’s the first four days below.

Update on my juvenile longfin(?) peppered cory, Jason!

I’m happy to report that Jason has made a full recovery! About three weeks ago, I noticed his eyes were bulging ( also called pop-eye or popeye ) and his scales were close to pineconing ( a sign of dropsy ), and that he had these awful, transparent blister-like growths all along his back and dorsal fin.

I did some research, and figured out that he had what’s called protein blisters or protein bubbles, caused by over-feeding of protein-rich foods. I’d noticed that he was becoming pretty chubby the past few months, but most cories are naturally plump, so I thought nothing of it until the growths became visible.

I didn’t want to euthanize him if there was a chance he could be saved, so I immediately put him on a strict regimen of being fed only half of his usual food every two days, and eliminating the sinking algae wafers from his diet altogether. To make him healthy, I had to essentially starve him so that his body would absorb the external fat deposits, which were the protein bubbles.

I was on vacation last week, so I left Jason, his juvenile emerald green cory tankmate Angelica, and the three neon tetras, with a 14-day feeding brick, most of which was unfortunately eaten by the pest snails in the tank ( which I am in the process of removing by picking out anywhere from 10 to 50 every day ).

In just three weeks, Jason has gone from this:

Noticeably slimmed down, no pineconing, no protein bubbles, and no popeye!

I had no antibiotics or aquarium salts to put into the tank, so all I did was do three 10% water changes, change the filter out, and help him lose some of the extra chub!

The fish in my 20g long have been dying off. It's really sad for me. I think maybe columnaris? I just got a new medication delivered which I will be adding today.

The shrimp are unbothered by whatever is killing the fish. I'm planning to move in the next six months or so...no plans on acquiring new fish until after that happens, I'm already stressed about moving my three tanks of nano fish and inverts (and six cats. and my 16.5 year-old dog). But I would like to save the remaining occupants if I can. :(

Y'all, I got a rescue fish. I was buying fish food at the pet store and I saw this lil guy. I got him for free thanks to the awesome employee behind the register. I hope this lil betta makes it! His name is Mercury.

Today I woke up and PERRL has a giant hole in his fins where the tumor was. The tumor itself is MIA unless it dissolved in the water.

PERRL is being hella skiddish, but doesn't appear to be under any mortal danger or at deaths door with the random popping out of his tumor. Though, there is part of the tumor left on his actual body. Seems there were three tumors. Two on top of each other in his fin, and one new slow one on his actual body.

In fact, the fin has a very neat hole where the tumor was.

Fucking hell, PERRL 🙄

Did a 1/4 water change and added ial and stress guard since there's no signs of any obvious distress

He is chilling under the mess of plants and I'll probably turn his lights off today to let him rest.

All this before 7:30am on a Saturday. 😌

I think I'm gonna lose Pestilence, I don't even know why. He was a little lethargic for a few days and had the barest hint of popeye maybe? Then this morning he was severely pineconed and has started pooping blood. Still fairly alert, definitely ate last night and I think this morning too. I started everyone on medicated pellets two days ago when I suspected the popeye. Currently have him in an epsom salt/kanaplex bath, and tbh probably going to continue with the pellets. But yeesh I've never had a fish pass blood before so that's kinda scary. Can't get ahold of the vet cause it's Saturday so I'm on my own for now...

Fun part is I also woke up sick this morning so trying to work out a treatment plan while my head wants to explode is lots of fun.

Mercury Update (the last one.)

Mercury died overnight. He fought against dropsy for about 2 days, but it seems I didn't make it in time to help him. Swim in peace lil buddy.

Huge Pucca news again

I came home from work and he's once again nowhere to be found and after a really hard game of where's waldo I found him gasping for breath buried in the substrate under his spider wood once again hidden out of view by lots of big leaves. Not responding to stimuli again. Turned off his lights, and thinking about adding another go of stressguard.. but?? Fucking Pucca what the fuck
