Fate/Apocrypha and Putting Trust Into Human Nature
I believe that one major overarching theme in Fate/Apocrypha is the ability to put one’s faith into humanity despite its cruel acts. This theme connects to several major characters in Fate/Apocrypha and is an interwoven in the narrative.
Sieg is definitely one of the characters that this idea relates strongly to. Sieg’s perspective on the human condition and how it changes across the show is interesting due to Sieg being only a couple of days old. This theme really starts appearing during the events prior to his encounter with Jack the Ripper. When Sieg and Astolfo are going about the town, it is Sieg’s first encounter with a community and he is amazed by what he sees. However this perspective of humanity is severely affected by Jack the Ripper. In Jack the Ripper’s world, Sieg is abruptly made aware how cruel humans can be and he is severely shaken up by it. He later tries to ask some of servants about their perspectives human nature.
Speaking of servants, let’s move our attention onto Astolfo. Although in part due to Astolfo’s simple mindedness, Astolfo in a geninely good person who does try to save people and believes in them mainly out of his insane level of optimism.
One of the other servants that Sieg asks for their opinion on if human nature is inherently good is Mordred. He asks her if she thinks human ethics are justified. Mordred states that humans are humans and there behaviors are circumstancial but overall human nature is self serving and selfish. Astolfo rejects Mordred’s opinion. Mordred goes onto ask Sieg what he thinks. Sieg states that he was beginning to admire humans until he learned about the past of Jack the Ripper and now he’s unsure. Mordred says she doesn’t know either and doesn’t care, as all they wants to do is to become king. The irony here is that Mordred later realizes that the reason they wanted to become king was to ease the burden placed on Artoria, who after not acknowledge that Mordred was capable, Mordred rebelled against.
Next up is Jeanne d’Arc. Jeanne possesses a love of humanity despite the fact that she is entirely aware of the acts that humans have committed and was guilty of committing them. She forgives even those who burned her at the stake.
Contrasting with Jeanne d’Arc we have Amakusa Shirou Tokisada. Similar to Jeanne, Shirou is fully aware of how cruel human nature can be, with him witnessing many horrific acts in his lifetime. Shirou believed that human nature is inherently destrustive and thus in order to achieve salvation the negative aspects of human nature must be destroyed. Other character see the faults in this solution, as although human nature has many negative aspects, there is inherent value in the progression of humankind
A major theme in Fate/ Apocrypha is putting one’s faith into the goodness of human nature while being aware of the negative aspects of humankind. Fate/Apocrypha explores this aspect of the human condition and shows that putting faith into others is not necessarily a sign of naïveté.

I will admit I'm a little salty that people, in an effort to prove that there is no good dialogue in Veilguard at all, keep comparing mission exposition to the high point narrative set pieces of prior games. I agree that some of the writing related to plot mechanics and mission exposition in Veilguard is a little too utilitarian, but that doesn't mean none of the dialogue is good or that prior games didn't also sometimes have this issue here and there.
I also generally dislike when people put the bar for good writing — and all writing too, not even just dialogue writing, ALL writing — at mic-drop sentences that still sound good completely divorced from context, because that really just reduces "good writing" down to like fake-deep philosophizing or witty quips exclusively. sometimes, a really good bit of dialogue sounds like a completely normal sentence out of context.
#Also writing includes what's on the screen! The castling scene is good writing! Rook struggling to hold onto the statues AND the dagger?#The Siege of Weisshaupt is good writing! It is writing when Rook opens those doors to see Ghilan'nain and realizing oh this is....#Blood of Arlathan! But like just going back to dialogue writing#I think a lot about that INCREDIBLE bit of dialogue in Psych where Shawn say “Since I met you‚ I've been thinking about getting a car.”#Which is a perfectly normal sentence out of context but it makes me so warm bc I know the context#“That he forgives me. And that I deserve it.” is an INCREDIBLE moment that NEEDS its context#“What did we sign up for?” “Love‚ I think.” is another one#But even if we were to just go for Veilguard lines that are still great out of context? It has those?#I see all of you into “There is no fate but the love we share” which IS a great quote#“He is loyal to nothing but his own fears” and “The gods! They give strength but all they ask in return is everything”#“Regret is even strong enough to serve as the lock on a prison built to hold gods. But such a prison can hold any captive... even you.”#“Everything dies. People‚ cities‚ empires. Fashions. Your favorite song. Things fade and are forgotten. [cont.]#Why would you want to outlast everything you love? It sounds like a terrible fate.”#“Do you really think something inside you has changed?” “It's possible. Or maybe we're the same. But does that mean we'll BE the same?”#“The cost of mercy is too high when others may die in its wake.”#and so on and so on and that's just stuff I remember off the top of my head#DATV things

Sketches of Fate characters as DnD classes and races that I did with Fatedtime on stream for a Kinkmeme prompt! We talked with chat and came up with ideas for various characters with them, then drew them out.
(from top left to right) Himiko and Iyo are traveling monks, with Iyo taking their jobs more seriously then Himiko over their travels. Douman is an Eladrin Warlock pacting with as many patrons as they can to make a string of deals that mutually fuck over the various powers they've pacted with. Sieg is a Kobold ranger who doesn't start very strong but Seigfried later transfers his magic powers into him and he gets much stronger and less terrified. Berserker Cu is a Firbolg Barbarian. Artoria is a Dragonborn/Leonin Paladin. (from bottom left to right) Lobo and Hessian are both Paladins, Lobo a Paladin of Vengeance and Hessian a Paladin of Remembrance. Lobo is a fey wolf (we were thinking like a blink dog) who travels in a party with Hessian enacting justice. King Hassan is a Rouge/Cleric multiclass who's in a party with Hessian and Lobo. He misty steps behind their enemies before doing a sneak attack. Edison would be a Leonin Artificer and be making a variety of helpful and mildy destructive inventions on his quests.

If anyone out there has read Apocrypha... please... some astolfo/jeanne/sieg poly shit... the dynamic of "girl who is catholic and not used to having human desires" vs "guy who was literally born two days ago and has no frame of reference for anything" vs "guy who Does Not Care" is so fucking funny. Please.
Oh ho ho!
