Silas is an awkward dude who speaks as if he never had a conversation with a real person before. He's secretly full of resentment and starved for attention. He can't balance his self image between hatred and pride so hurting himself is the only way for him to ever let himself feel good and noble. He tries very hard to be a good guy but the only model he ever had is a power hungry and selfish fool who never tried to relate to him. His body on the other hand is built for violence and saved him countless time, something he default to as a reflex. He wants peace and happiness but doesn't know what it even looks like, confusing a life of hiding in a small plain room as a monk with heaven when his life trapped in a small plain cell in prison was hell. He yearns to be a real person, to escape the ghost he was made to be, but he can only rely on others to give him a purpose. He has no real connection and despite his commitment he knows that no one would miss him. He himself doesn't value his own life and his only hope for himself is to be forgiven for his own existence.

Dan Brown’s logic on Silas growing into a very huge and strong man despite of -well, no, actually BECAUSE- he barely ate more than discarded fruit and raw fish and slept in an abandoned fabric even since he was seven will never not cease to amuse me.
