Silicium and Delta have a very professional relationship with one another. Silicium is older as a Segment and Delta is older as person, being more recent, and they have the same main occupation, so they have a mutual respect for each other. As hands-on scientists, fucking around and finding out is their thing. Needs to study and dissect that unknown component? Trow it at Silicium. Making an express antidote? Delta is your friend. Prime likes to utilize their combined brainpower, since they are among the most mature and calm of the segments.

Their conversations consist mostly of 'hi', instructions and numbers - they are true coworkers. I like to think that Silicium is very much aloof while Delta is more playful - D is the fucking around, S is the finding out, if you will.

I also have a soft spot for Silicium, he's just so adorable.

(Tecnically and scientifically metals are minerals too but who cares...)

(I remember I did an au too a long ago when I was 16 and basically just joined the su fandoms where metals where the enemies of my gems lol) but I mean, has anyone did this with any "original gem-species"?

Time for me to talk about one of my favorite graphic novels ever

Carbon and Silicon (original title : Carbone et Silicium), is a french graphic novel by mind-blowingly incredible artist Mathieu Bablet.

The story starts with two AIs, Carbon and Silicon, the first prototypes of a new generation of robots, meant to help care for the aging human population.

I said the story "starts" and not the story "follows", because while Carbon and Silicon are central to the story, and it is a story about them, I would argue that it is a story about them because they are instrumental in it, both literally and figuratively.

Their struggle with their sense of identity, of belonging, of loneliness; their fallible mechanical parts, electronic brains, and their very tangible limitations as they struggle to find meaning in a world that is destroyed by humanity's greed, and kept alive by humanity's hope, is as much the heart of the story as it is a tool to advance the story.

They fight, and yet the tragedy is inevitable, not because of some higher power, but because the story is about Carbon and Silicon themselves, and who they are.

The story unfolds specifically because of who they are. Somewhere in the process of being made, they stopped being perfect.

And in being imperfect, they became human.

And becoming human, they became a tragedy.

ANYWAYS! I love this book, the art is amazing, the storytelling is incredible, and while it had almost every trigger warning you can think of, there is no gratuitous pain, which I appreciated fully.

Highly recommend, but keep in mind that the story, due to its themes, is extremely dark.

a lot of media assumes robots would be immortal but i think its a lot more interesting to explore robots dealing with their parts wearing down and battery life shortening and all the horrible little failings that come with being a complicated machine. sure they can replace parts but you'd assume you cant completely ship of theseus them, or it'd have pretty big rammifications on their sense of identity. idk. give me robots with distinct, unique signs of aging. as a treat.
