Familiar Faces
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both Dusty Hogg and Misty Waters are sim NPCs in The Urbz GBA. Its so funny seeing them here because its like— why did you move away from Miniopolis? Why did you come to Strangetown? Does this take place before or after the events in The Urbz? Dusty does mention that he just hooks his trailer to his bike and moves as he pleases he doesn't need to buy furniture or anything. I also think Misty is "new in town" in the Urbz but I could be misremembering. The fact that its the same universe or a parallel universe is trippy. Also the main villain of The Urbz is my annoying director in Sims 2 GBA.

Also for those of you that want to know if you’ll be obsessed with Stardew Valley, here is an easy guide:
Do you like sims? Yes? Good. Do you specifically like the early 2000s GBA Sims games, The Sims 2, The Sims Bustin Out, and The Sims The Urbz? No the other versions of these games do not count I specifically mean the gameboy advanced versions of these games. If you answered yes? Then you’ll love Stardew Valley, but you’ll love it even more because you don’t have to pay rent, pay bills, and you can farm and stuff. But trust me when I say the VIBES and the bullshit??? Absolutely identical. I logged at least 100+ hours in all three games, I even finished almost all the episodes in the GBA The Sims 2, I got all the different apartments and houses in The Sims Bustin Out and was running errands for thugs and gangsters, I did it all. It’s the vibes in the end. It’s the bullshit. It’s the cat that won’t stop peeing on the floor no matter what.
So yeah. If you liked those, go for the SDV, you’ll love the levels of bullshit available. But also if you love SDV and you want a slightly more bullshit filled thing to play with half the brainpower? Try the GBA sims trio I mentioned. There are others but these three were so cartoony-insane and full of secrets and even a few mini games that I still, to this day, can’t figure out how to play. It’s fun.

y'know im about to go feral on how EVERYTHING is under subscriptions. want this viddy game to run better??? get *insert viddy company name here or or viddy game title here* plus or extra or up your plan to get access to EXTRAS!!
bc the other day, i was making a list of all the different games i might download on my xbox in the future. fallout 76, which has fallout 1st.... which is a $22.99 per a month or $179 a year subscription, just to get better skins etc in the game. i want to download trivial pursuit for me and my dad. but xbox and ubisoft keep recommending "get ubisoft+" which is ANOTHER subscription service through ubisoft. another like $25 a month. like given it could be worth it for me if i got into assassins creed on a bigger level than casual. get EA play to get exclusive sims content!! for ANOTHER $6.99 a month. get xbox games pass (which i have) for $18.95 a month!!! and to be fair, i get EA play for free through xbox game pass. but still.
for example, the other day i updated my nintendo online sub account to the extras pack or whatever.... all bc i wanted to look at the gameboy advance online thing...... but instead of letting me look at it and play super mario world 2 on it on my NORMAL SUBSCRIPTION (which i already had access to on nintendo online snes/game cube or whatever.... and plus i though the GBA platform would have more games than it did (like 10 games but i thought it'd have like 50 or something) i had to change my subscription to the nintendo online plus extras pack for GBA online. but that subscription, was $41.95 this year bc i bought it on sale,... however, next year it'll be $60. like at least its $60 a year and not a month. but i'm still pissed off. i should've been able to get access to this for the $30 a year i was already paying!!! and for a measly 10 games not the like 50 games on the game cube/snes online game offerings.
just. im so sick and tired of EVERY company demanding customers to pay a monthly or yearly subscription for access or extras or for something to run better. who the fuck is made of enough money to afford fallout 1st??? ubisoft+??? like dgmw, i get it if you're SUPER into any of these games. like it's worth $22.99 a month to access extras across the library of ubisoft+ if you're a hella fan of assassin's creed or their other games (ie trivial pursuit). or $6.99 for EA play for the love of sims or every single sports game ever.
just i guess it's burn out maybe that EVERYONE wants your money. a section of your wallet continuously until you cancel. i have to subscribe to my area's local newspaper for $179 a year. i subscribed to an app by the adf (australian defence force) to do job aptitude tests (im ignoring it tbh lol). i subscribe to the NYTs games app for $2.99 a month. i WAS paying $15 a month (but now it's closer to $20) for scribd, which is now everand, for audiobooks. for better use of my xbox, i subscribe to xbox games pass, as i said earlier, for $18.95 a month. and from next year, i'll pay $60 a year for nintendo online (unless i drop down back to the cheaper option to get rid of GBA online). i subscribe for $100 a year to microsoft for the essential apps of microsoft word/powerpoint etc. i pay $100 a year for norton antivirus on my windows laptop that i barely use now.
there's adhd apps that I keep getting recommended on fb that are like $150 a year or something. astrology app subscriptions (that i'll NEVER buy) that are like $15 a month.... as examples of apps that i won't use, but I get suggested all the time on social media. once i get a job, i'll be constantly asked about what tv streaming apps im subbed to as well (none). WHY does EVERYONE want my fucking money???? i am so sick to death of subscriptions.

Social Interaction in Sims 2 GBA
Tumblr media
So that joke about sims becoming friends by—talk talk talk joke hug talk joke talk talk— couldn't be more apparent here. I just clicked this little hat thing and had her dance over and over and over and over until the meter was full.
Apparently I can unlock new "socials" so I can do random other things. I bought "hug" and "apologize" I think.
I don't have a screen capture card (that would be a hella expensive DS to buy) nor do I play this on a GBA simulator on PC. So the videos/gifs are literally me holding my iPhone up to my DS screen. 😅

The Urbz: Sims In The City - Videogamebetabook
The Urbz: Sims In The City (Also simply titled "The Urbz") is a game that was released on November 9th, 2004 for the Sony Playstation 2, Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo Gamecube, Nintendo DS and Nintendo Gameboy Advance. Versions for the Nokia NGage, Sega Dreamcast, Microsoft Windows and the Playstation Portable were in development, but all cancelled due to various reasons, which can be found below.
The game was planned to start a sub series for The Sims, where multiple titles had been planned. Due to low sales, the sequel that was under development at the time, and all plans for later sequels, were scrapped.
https://web.archive.org/web/20160413213212/http://videogamebetabook.wiki-site.com/index.php/The_Urbz:_Sims_In_The_City
Windows Version (Windows) - 2003-2004 - (Cancelled) (NuFX/EA Chicago)
In March 2003, EA wanted the game to not only launch as intended on just consoles, they wanted the planned Urbz sub series to be on PC as well.
Electronic Arts then had NuFx, a chicago game developer, start development of the PC version. This version would be the version used for most of the trailers and promotional releases due to Electronic Arts feeling the game was more polished. The game ran a heavily modified Renderware engine, and was to play more like a third person action adventure game, in comparison to the original Sims game which was a fixed perspective point and click simulation game.
According to information released on a now defunct blog of a former NuFx developer, the PC version also allowed players to drive cars, and the game, unlike the console version, was to be fully open world (This concept of Open World would later be used for The Sims 3).
The game was cancelled at near completion in 2004 due to the low sales of the Console and Handheld versions. However, EA was impressed with NuFx's work, so they purchased the studio in 2004 and it was renamed EA Chicago. (The studio would later close in 2007).

You said you have a collection of old electronics, can you show some?
I can! It’s very small and not that impressive but i’m a bit of a nerd. (It’s…. It’s all Nintendo lol and not old old)
FIRST OFF MY CONSOLES
Tumblr media
I personally own
An original gameboy i recently got from a family member because they were clearing out stuff and knew i liked old stuff. It’s coroded and needs a good clean for it to properly work again but I honestly just want it for show because i own the gba sp which hurts my eyes less.
My gameboy advance sp i have owned since i was little this thing is a champ! It doesn’t power on normally and i have to do a whole start up ritual but she’s strong!
Then we have my ds lite. Iiii used to own like 3 of these but my last remaining one recently decided it had seen enough and …. Snapped in two. It survived a very rough life for a while i was an extremely clumsy kid and that thing got dropped… so often. I actually managed to score this new one for like 25 euro’s at a con. Cuz it didn’t come with a charger or stylus, but thankfully i own plenty of stylus’s. And another fender SOLD THE CHARGERS FOR CHEAP! I also got 2 games and ended up with a whole new ds lite for like 50 euro’s!
And finally my baby my problem child… my new 3ds xl. I was originally gonna get a 3ds for my birthday but when at the store the guy told us that if we waited just a little the new 3ds would actually come out so waiting for that would probably be better (and more expensive) so we did! This bad boi has survived sooo long. The paint on the back started to chip so I actually got an accessory that works as a stand and a hand grip so your hands don’t cramp up. and it has had a screen replacement and a joystick replacement. But he’s still going strong!
I also own a switch but it’s not really old and didn’t have it on hand.
Next up the games
Tumblr media
I got these with the og game boy i got from family so tbh they aren’t my choices tbf
Out of all of these I’m probably the most interested in kirby. So these are also more to look at in comparison to my other games.
Tumblr media
Then we have my gba games! And Pokémon silver but I couldn’t find it.
First up my copy of Pokémon fire red! I got it for cheap plated it a bit then restarted and for a second I thought my screen had finally quit life because i was face to face with a yellow ratata THANKFULLY I actually like ratata and raticate on my team so i threw a ball at it… only to be transported to the pokedex menu and go…. Wait a minute…OH MY GOD! So I accidentally caught a shiny 😅 i named her Shimmer and haven’t touched that save file since.
Then we have 2 games I bought PURELY for nostalgia
A barbie game to get hyped for the barbie movie
And disney princess royal adventure I LOVE THAT GAME honestly if anyone wants to just play a feel good cozy walking game with little minigames this is such a nice game the graphics are fantastic and it’s just soooooo cozy (it is a glorified walking sim though…. It’s mostly walking walking and more walking)
A true delight tho!
Next up
Tumblr media
DS GAMES here my true personality shows!
Pony friend and professor layton I owned since i was little and I finally completed professor Laytona few years ago! I’m not a puzzle person but godddd i love prof layton games!
Furthermore lps beach friends, lps garden and style boutique are recent purchases!
I got back into lps a while ago and am very excited for the new 2024 peta but they made me soooo nostalgic for the games so at a local con I basically ordered my friends to help me look for the games! I ended up finding lps beach friends together with style boutique another franchise i adore and later purchased lps garden online! The games are great! You also may have burned down a bakery in the friend’s series BUTTT THATS NOT IMPORTANT lol
Style boutique I purchased because i am on a quest i’m on the hunt TO OWN EVERY VERSION i own 1 and 3(technically 4) so i just need NEW style boutique and new style boutique 2!
And finally
Tumblr media
The 3ds games (i also used to own Skylanders trap team 3ds but I LOST THE GAME)
Not including tomodatchi life and new style boutique 3
I was a Pokémon guy i loved it a lot
Pokemon x y is definitely my favorite from the 3ds era… not cuz it’s good…. But because lysandre and sycamore are just the best characters pokemon has eve made lol and i can see the potential in it (also furfrou my favorite Pokémon)
Oras is definitely the game i replay the most because it is a really good game
I love moon and ultra moon a lot aswell!
Zelda actually funny enough i … ended up bugging the game so hard in the first 30 minutes of playing…. I hard locked the game and I couldn’t progress 😅 that’s ehen I knew I wasn’t a zelda guy
And monster hunter story OMG ITS SO GOOD the anime was better at the execution of the story BUT THE GAMEE OOOOOOOOOO i wanna replay it so bad BUT I’M SO ATTACHED TO MY CHARACTER I JUST CANT RESET he’s my boi! MY SON!! I love the game and I’m playing 2…. But i never finished it due to reasons but from what i did play ITS GOOD but it destroyed the ending of the first anddd i dont like that.
Also i’m so excited for fashion dreamer to come out and i will get it(probably for Christmas as a little treat) and i will be super inspired and use it as outfit inspiration forrr my winx stuff! So that’s exciting!
I would own a lot more old old stuff if it wasn’t for the fact that static hurts my ears and my eyeballs also don’t like old screens SO MOSTLY JUST MY NINTENDO STUFF cuz i was the Nintendo kid from my town. My brother had a playstation my neighbors a pc and a close friend and xbox the great divide!
My favorite playstation game was tony hawk pro skater 2 lol
BUT THATS ALL FOR NOW THIS WAS SUPER LONG OKI BYE!

Eli Rambles About One of their Favorite Games
When I was about 14 or 15 years old, I was getting introduced into the world of PC gaming. Up until that point, I'd mostly played on the PS2 and the Gameboy Advanced SP. The PC games I'd known were browser games like Runescape, or games like Civ City Rome, Zoo Tycoon, and the Sims. I was happy with this, but then a friend of mine suggested that I play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat.
He taught me how to "obtain" it through means not entirely up-to-code and sat with me on Skype to teach me how to play. I was sucked in. I'd never played a game with such intense atmosphere before. It was so spooky and immersive and desolate, while simultaneously being so welcoming and comforting when I'd find a camp of fellow Stalkers or I'd wander into Skadovsk, the 1st area's "town". I liked listening to the Stalker that played guitar, and to the dialogue which was partially still in the untranslated Ukrainian, and partially in very horribly translated Ukrainian. Me and my friend would greet each other back and forth mimicking the dialogue in the game-- "Hay, broh!" "A-loooooo-ha!"
I spent many hours in this game, hundreds possibly. I liked to explore and to take side quests and hang out with NPCs and roleplay. When I was that young, before I knew how video games worked, there was a lot of mystery surrounding every facet of games. It made me feel very small in the best way. I never knew what to expect out of video games, and especially had no idea what to expect out of Call of Pripyat. I never knew what kind of monsters would be prowling the swamps, or hiding in the shadows of abandoned buildings. I never knew the limits of anomalies. I never knew what kinds of things could happen with the NPCs, or what would happen next in the story, and I was so enchanted by every minute of it.
Eventually, I beat Call of Pripyat, back in the old days when I'd actually play games until they were complete rather than until my ADHD looked for the next big thing to focus on. It was a hard-fought battle. Those who've played know how hard the last stretch of the game is. But I did it. Me and my terrible and baby-faced gaming skills. And I moved onto new pastures -- Elder Scrolls Oblivion, Fallout 3 and New Vegas, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, Team Fortress 2... and later, onto an even wider assortment of games, branching out bit by bit -- CK2, Mount and Blade: Warband, Dark Souls, Minecraft, Stardew Valley, The Last of Us, Disco Elysium. Each game I loved, recommended to me by friends just as Pripyat had. Each one heavily driven by atmosphere, just as Pripyat was. Each one clunky at times. Many of them niche. Many of them difficult. Sometimes, it feels like each new game that I play and love is retracing the bootprints in the mud that were left that first time I played Call of Pripyat. I wouldn't call it my favorite game. I wouldn't call it one of my top 10 games, probably. But it had a huge lasting impact on me and the way that I view and consume video games.
I'm 24 now, and I've finally gotten around to replaying Call of Pripyat. I just beat it today. It's been almost a full decade since I rushed to the helicopters in Pripyat, dodging the Monolith's sniper bullets and doing everything I can to protect Strelok and my military brothers. It's really amazing so much time has passed, and that I still love this game as much now as I did when I was just 14. I missed the Zone, and I missed this game, and I'm happy I got to replay it. Legitimately this time. The devs deserve every dime.
It's amazing what slightly obscure media can do to an impressionable mind, I think.

Everyone has their own way of getting into The Sims. And each one is special! How I discovered sims under the cut
I first played The Sims on the PS2, and that's where I mainly played for a long time! I then also played The Sims 2 Pets and The Urbz also on PS2.
I got The Sims 2 for the Gameboy Advanced for one of my bdays, and I absolutely loved the chaos on that thing.
Then, when I got my own laptop when I graduated high school, my brother got me The Sims 3, and that was a huge obsession. I played that so much, downloaded all the cc, just absolutely loved it.
Then The Sims Medieval, which I enjoyed, but it was rougher than TS3, and TS3 was so much bigger for me, so I didn't play it often.
The Sims 4 came out, and I joined the bandwagon, and I play that, but it's just a pretty game, with no depth. It keeps showing that it's all pretty no depth, while The Sims 3 is allllll depth. I'm still itching for some way to have a TS3 with TS4 style.
Then, I figured out how to emulate The Sims 1 for computers, and I've been getting into that and absolutely reveling in how different the game is from TS4. And I'm currently attempting to do a 10 gen legacy with it because let's make this hard!
And then I got The Sims 2 on my laptop, and played with that, and got it into my head to do a legacy legacy, of 10 gens in each game. I don't know how I'm going to do this, but I'm already having fun.
Oh, and somewhere in there, there was the mobile sims freeplay and the other sims mobile? And a sims on facebook? Just for a short while. They weren't why I played sims.
I love how different all the games are and how I meandered my own way around them all. How did you discover sims?
