Once again I have redesigned my Six gijinka because I didn't like the other old versions I made.

I still might change the outfit and the colors of the outfit in the future, at least slightly, but this is fine for now. I think if I ever redesign Six again it's only going to be the outfit that I'm going to redesign, I might mess around with the old outfits from the old designs or just make completely new outfits. Also my marker was dying as you can clearly see.

- Lollipop: Professional kid hater, she can put up with them BUT SHE’S NEVER TAKING CARE OF THEM EVER
- Match: Thinks kids are yucky
- Pencil: Not really worth it, even if she’s responsible enough
- Pillow: NOT WORTH IT AT ALL, she will use them for one of her experiments and will get frustrated when they ruin it
- Robot Flower: Taking care of kids is not in her programming
- Roboty: SAVE this robot from kids
- Teardrop: Kids annoy her, and she’s a little too rough with them
- Tree: DO I NEED TO EXPLAIN, treats kids as adults and that’s NOT the moment. He is good at preventing they kill themselves tho
- Winner: Not their vibe! Kids make them uncomfortable
- Woody: EXTREMELY afraid of children
- Announcer: take a little look at BFDI season 1 and tell me he would be a good caretaker (the answer is no)

what's the 3-dimensional number thing?
Well I'm glad you asked! For those confused, this is referring to my claim that "my favorite multiplication equation is 3 × 5 = 15 because it's the reason you can't make a three-dimensional number system" from back in this post. Now, this is gonna be a bit of a journey, so buckle up.
Part One: Numbers in Space
First of all, what do I mean by a three-dimensional number system? We say that the complex numbers are two-dimensional, and that the quaternions are four-dimensional, but what do we mean by these things? There's a few potential answers to this question, but for our purposes we'll take the following narrative:
Complex numbers can be written in the form (a+bi), where a and b are real numbers. For the variable-averse, this just means we have things like (3+6i) and (5-2i) and (-8+3i). Some amount of "units" (that is, ones), and some amount of i's.
Most people are happy to stop here and say "well, there's two numbers that you're using, so that's two dimensions, ho hum". I think that's underselling it, though, since there's something nontrivial and super cool happening here. See, each complex number has an "absolute value", which is its distance from zero. If you imagine "3+6i" to mean "three meters East and six meters North", then the distance to that point will be 6.708 meters. We say the absolute value of (3+6i), which is written like |3+6i|, is equal to 6.708. Similarly, interpreting "5-2i" to mean "five meters East and two meters South" we get that |5-2i| = 5.385.
The neat thing about this is that absolute values multiply really nicely. For example, the two numbers above multiply to give (3+6i) × (5-2i) = (27+24i) which has a length of 36.124. What's impressive is that this length is the product of our original lengths: 36.124 = 6.708 × 5.385. (Okay technically this is not true due to rounding but for the full values it is true.)
This is what we're going to say is necessary to for a number system to accurately represent a space. You need the numbers to have lengths corresponding to actual lengths in space, and you need those lengths to be "multiplicative", which just means it does the thing we just saw. (That is, when you multiply two numbers, their lengths are multiplied as well.)
There's still of course the question of what "actual lengths in space" means, but we can just use the usual Euclidean method of measurement. So, |3+6i| = √(3²+6²) and |5-2i| = √(5²+2²). This extends directly to the quaternions, which are written as (a+bi+cj+dk) for real numbers a, b, c, d. (Don't worry about what j and k mean if you don't know; it turns out not to really matter here.) The length of the quaternion 4+3i-7j+4k can be calculated like |4+3i-7j+4k| = √(4²+3²+7²+4²) = 9.486 and similarly for other points in "four-dimensional space". These are the kinds of number systems we're looking for.
[To be explicit, for those who know the words: What we are looking for is a vector algebra over the real numbers with a prescribed basis under which the Euclidean norm is multiplicative and the integer lattice forms a subring.]
Part Two: Sums of Squares
Now for something completely different. Have you ever thought about which numbers are the sum of two perfect squares? Thirteen works, for example, since 13 = 3² + 2². So does thirty-two, since 32 = 4² + 4². The squares themselves also work, since zero exists: 49 = 7² + 0². But there are some numbers, like three and six, which can't be written as a sum of two squares no matter how hard you try. (It's pretty easy to check this yourself; there aren't too many possibilities.)
Are there any patterns to which numbers are a sum of two squares and which are not? Yeah, loads. We're going to look at a particularly interesting one: Let's say a number is "S2" if it's a sum of two squares. (This thing where you just kinda invent new terminology for your situation is common in math. "S2" should be thought of as an adjective, like "orange" or "alphabetical".) Then here's the neat thing: If two numbers are S2 then their product is S2 as well.
Let's see a few small examples. We have 2 = 1² + 1², so we say that 2 is S2. Similarly 4 = 2² + 0² is S2. Then 2 × 4, that is to say, 8, should be S2 as well. Indeed, 8 = 2² + 2².
Another, slightly less trivial example. We've seen that 13 and 32 are both S2. Then their product, 416, should also be S2. Lo and behold, 416 = 20² + 4², so indeed it is S2.
How do we know this will always work? The simplest way, as long as you've already internalized the bit from Part 1 about absolute values, is to think about the norms of complex numbers. A norm is, quite simply, the square of the corresponding distance. (Okay yes it can also mean different things in other contexts, but for our purposes that's what a norm is.) The norm is written with double bars, so ‖3+6i‖ = 45 and ‖5-2i‖ = 29 and ‖4+3i-7j+4k‖ = 90.
One thing to notice is that if your starting numbers are whole numbers then the norm will also be a whole number. In fact, because of how we've defined lengths, the norm is just the sum of the squares of the real-number bits. So, any S2 number can be turned into a norm of a complex number: 13 can be written as ‖3+2i‖, 32 can be written as ‖4+4i‖, and 49 can be written as ‖7+0i‖.
The other thing to notice is that, since the absolute value is multiplicative, the norm is also multiplicative. That is to say, for example, ‖(3+6i) × (5-2i)‖ = ‖3+6i‖ × ‖5-2i‖. It's pretty simple to prove that this will work with any numbers you choose.
But lo, gaze upon what happens when we combine these two facts together! Consider the two S2 values 13 and 32 from before. Because of the first fact, we can write the product 13 × 32 in terms of norms: 13 × 32 = ‖3+2i‖ × ‖4+4i‖. So far so good. Then, using the second fact, we can pull the product into the norms: ‖3+2i‖ × ‖4+4i‖ = ‖(3+2i) × (4+4i)‖. Huzzah! Now, if we write out the multiplication as (3+2i) × (4+4i) = (4+20i), we can get a more natural looking norm equation: ‖3+2i‖ × ‖4+4i‖ = ‖4+20i‖ and finally, all we need to do is evaluate the norms to get our product! (3² + 2²) × (4² + 4²) = (4² + 20²)
The cool thing is that this works no matter what your starting numbers are. 218 = 13² + 7² and 292 = 16² + 6², so we can follow the chain to get 218 × 292 = ‖13+7i‖ × ‖16+6i‖ = ‖(13+7i) × (16+6i)‖ = ‖166+190i‖ = 166² + 190² and indeed you can check that both extremes are equal to 63,656. No matter which two S2 numbers you start with, if you know the squares that make them up, you can use this process to find squares that add to their product. That is to say, the product of two S2 numbers is S2.
Part Four: Why do we skip three?
Now we have all the ingredients we need for our cute little proof soup! First, let's hop to the quaternions and their norm. As you should hopefully remember, quaternions have four terms (some number of units, some number of i's, some number of j's, and some number of k's), so a quaternion norm will be a sum of four squares. For example, ‖4+3i-7j+4k‖ = 90 means 90 = 4² + 3² + 7² + 4².
Since we referred to sums of two squares as S2, let's say the sums of four squares are S4. 90 is S4 because it can be written as we did above. Similarly, 7 is S4 because 7 = 2² + 1² + 1² + 1², and 22 is S4 because 22 = 4² + 2² + 1² + 1². We are of course still allowed to use zeros; 6 = 2² + 1² + 1² + 0² is S4, as is our friend 13 = 3² + 2² + 0² + 0².
The same fact from the S2 numbers still applies here: since 7 is S4 and 6 is S4, we know that 42 (the product of 7 and 6) is S4. Indeed, after a bit of fiddling I've found that 42 = 6² + 4² + 1² + 1². I don't need to do that fiddling, however, if I happen to be able to calculate quaternions! All I need to do is follow the chain, just like before: 7 × 6 = ‖2+i+j+k‖ × ‖2+i+j‖ = ‖(2+i+j+k) × (2+i+j)‖ = ‖2+3i+5j+2k‖ = 2² + 3² + 5² + 2². This is a different solution than the one I found earlier, but that's fine! As long as there's even one solution, 42 will be S4. Using the same logic, it should be clear that the product of any two S4 numbers is an S4 number.
Now, what goes wrong with three dimensions? Well, as you might have guessed, it has to do with S3 numbers, that is, numbers which can be written as a sum of three squares. If we had any three-dimensional number system, we'd be able to use the strategy we're now familiar with to prove that any product of S3 numbers is an S3 number. This would be fine, except, well…
3 × 5 = 15.
Why is this bad? See, 3 = 1² + 1² + 1² and 5 = 2² + 1² + 0², so both 3 and 5 are S3. However, you can check without too much trouble that 15 is not S3; no matter how hard you try, you can't write 15 as a sum of three squares.
And, well, that's it. The bucket has been kicked, the nails are in the coffin. You cannot make a three-dimensional number system with the kind of nice norm that the complex numbers and quaternions have. Even if someone comes to you excitedly, claiming to have figured it out, you can just toss them through these steps: • First, ask what the basis is. Complex numbers use 1 and i; quaternions use 1, i, j, and k. Let's say they answer with p, q, and r. • Second, ask them to multiply (p+q+r) by (2p+q). • Finally, well. If their system works, the resulting number should give you three numbers whose squares add to 15. Since that can't happen, you've shown that the norm is not actually multiplicative; their system doesn't capture the geometry of three dimensions.

A work in progress! Finally getting around to finishing some ALG WIPs before I begin more! This ones based off of TPOT 17, Six explains about these four integers and why One was supposed to be gone. Honestly it would be really cool in canon if Six actually explains to these four about whatever is going on with One.
And now some bonus things under the cut!
ALG Three! Or kind of(?) a little bit of an updated design of them. Feral guy, proceed with caution, who knows why theyre locked up, and why theyve willingly kept himself locked up. Hopefully Needle's crew, Six and Purple Face alongside them they wont find them a problem when they encounter him in the EXIT.
A while back ive had a little bit of a problem whether to give the speakerboxes (minus PSB) a design or not, you can easily tell I chose the former here. Though Announcer is probably subject to change, I dont exactly know yet.
FSB (Firey SB) is looking rather unfinished, but theres a catch! Theres lore behind him that connects to Firey himself! FSB wasnt finished with fully obtaining his orange metal plating, by the time Firey snatched him, he was left like this, though thankfully he was fully functioning, would Firey ever fully put the metal plating on FSB? We dont know, hes not exactly good with robotics, especially with a speakerbox he didnt technically make! Yes, unlike canon Firey creating FSB, ALG Firey DID NOT create ALG FSB, rather theres a lot of stuff behind the reason FSB was even made to begin with!
Now Flower SpeakerBox, I havent thought of what I would do with her yet, probably same in a way as canon, but ill think of something later.
Announcer is still well, Announcer, also adding to the fact Remote is his child, Ive seen a bunch of people have this headcanon and I greatly enjoy it, so I might as well make it a thing for this au! This also means Remote wouldnt even appear as a possible debuter for neither BFDI or BFDIA, but she will eventually be a contestant for during the events of BFB, she encounters everyone else around the events of IDFB, and yes, Announcer is the one who installed that railgun to her arm, as "extra measures" he so claims it to be, guess he blew most of the budget onto that due to how high tech it looks. He's still more less the same as canon.
Another thing I might add is the possibility of Speaker Boxes and Algebraliens aware of each others existences for such a very long time, and dont like each other all too much, a possible rivalry perhaps? The Speaker Boxes came to Earth first and were pretty much known compared to any Algebraliens, One was there for a very long time too, however she was hidden in the sidelines for nobody to ever see her, whereas the Speaker Boxes were more out in the open and were willing to communicate with any object they encounter.

✨TEN analysis and theory/headcanon ✨
The most popular number mentioned in the Equation playground, the number that everyone loves hanging around and talking about. Once word spread about him, it spreads like a wildflower. This is Ten, the nicest number among the other integers

Ten is anything you can think of a high school guy who's healthy and fit with an extremely great personality. We all know Ten as lovable and cared for by everyone around him. He's friendly and would do anything to help others out. He would go beyond befriending anyone to the point he doesn't mind hanging around Four despite his temper. And once Eight had met him, they already formed an Even Numbers Clubhouse and chilled together watching Object Show 87. What's striking about Ten is his kind personality, even willing to risk his life for his friends or do what anyone tells him to do(like how he's alright with adding with Five to take Six and Nine's place).

There are a lot of good things and aspects about Ten. He's smart, he's athletic, he's always there to help the numbers when they are in need.

Ten didn't become one of my favourite characters until I read more fanfics and look at more art about him. Until I realised Ten is so much more different than the other numbers, no wonder they like him. He's unique in his own way to the fact he blends in by not blending in. Other than Eight, Ten is a completely chill guy and what's more he's the sun in the group. He's a pure bundle of joy and looks into the bright side in everyone's heart.
He saved Nine and Six's cats and helped Seven off the tree. No one else would do it and yet Ten willingly helped. Ten is less hostile than the others who are always annoying and gets into fights and bickers. He even lets Five take off some steam on him while not talking back. He doesn't join in the argument just like Eight. When Five turned around to bicker with Six he just smiled there like everything is gonna turn out ok. Despite their arguments, he knows that they still get along. He sees every negative situation as somewhat just something that passes by. It was also implied by Nine that Ten doesn't deserve the treatment from Fourteen since he's done nothing but spread joy within them.

That's the bad part about him, Ten is overly kind and nice to the point where he's unable to fight back. It makes him naive and oblivious to the point he couldn't see that something was off when Seven and Fourteen disguised as Seven appears. Everyone managed to see the odds but Ten just greets them like it was normal.

After Fourteen got out of jail, he took his revenge on every number. We all know him as a cannibalistic dangerous number but he could've eaten anyone's skin. It could've been Nine, it could've been Five who caged him in the first place. Eight is made out of lead and Six is very aggressive and violent (seven is caged). It could've been either of the formers but no, it HAD to be Ten. Which is why I think the reasons for Fourteen for targeting Ten are one, he might as well be more delicious than the other numbers. Ten is a sweet number himself, to the point it attracts Fourteen to think of tasting how sweet he is.
Two, Ten is really really defenseless. He's not as hostile or exaggerating as the other numbers.(Eight is just hard to eat) Despite having powers too, he lets his guard down. He didn't even argue back at Five like my previous point. It became very obvious that Ten couldn't even fight back when Fourteen tried to eat his skin again and was captured. Ten didn't think much about Fourteen since he thought he wouldn't do it with Five keeping an eye on him. Until the incident occurred. We don't know what happened to Ten before the events of 2673 but we can tell Ten is traumatized to even see Fourteen in his presence, might as well be developing PTSD at this point. I've read a lot of fanfics that have Ten asking why would Fourteen go for him and not the other numbers?
Ten can't bring himself to defend himself. He's as innocent as a lamb ready to be pounced by a wolf just because he did nothing wrong. He had shown a bit of aggressiveness in BFDI: TPOT 15 by breaking the yoyle light into four pieces but other than that, Ten is too kind and nice for his own good. He embraces everyone's differences with open arms before the Fourteen incident.
To conclude, Ten pretty much resembles no matter how kind and nice you are, you'll get taken advantage of by someone who is aware of your weakness. Seriously I've been thinking about this all day when I was studying yesterday and I really feel the need to mention it. I'm not really sure if anyone is aware about the possibilities that, if Ten disappears, none of the algebraliens would be happy at all.
Bonus: Ten also kinda looks like a people pleaser ngl but putting that aside. GUYS IM FREAKING OUT I JUST REALISED TEN IS A MIX OF EIGHT AND TWO'S PERSONALITY BECAUSE TWO PLUS EIGHT EQUALS TO TEN!!(EIGHT IS OVERLY CHILL AND LAID BACK WHILE TWO DESPITE BEING ARROGANT IS CARING AND KIND TOWARDS THEIR CONTESTANTS OMG DO YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS?!?!)

If One was imprisoned for something she did against the others, it'd have to have been pretty bad considering that they kept Fourteen, the skin eater, around.
It makes me wonder if One was cast out more because of someone's bias than anything they actually did. Her particular disdain for Four made me think it had something to do with them. What if there's some bitterness from implying her and Three were unlucky?
I also think it's pretty strange how spread out all integers are in TPOT unlike in XFOHV. Maybe they just haven't all been relevant to the plot yet? But what Six mentioned about the doors makes me think something bigger is going on.

Abrahadabra! ✰ Abrahadabra is a word that first publicly appeared in The Book of the Law (1904), the central sacred text of Thelema. Its author, Aleister Crowley, described it as “the Word of the Aeon, which signifieth The Great Workaccomplished.“ This is in reference to his belief that the writing of Liber Al vel Legis heralded a new Aeon for mankind that was ruled by the God Ra-Hoor-Khuit. Abrahadabra is, therefore, the “magical formula” of this new age. It is not to be confused with the Word of the Law of the Aeon, which is Thelema, meaning “Will” in ancient Greek.
Gematria
As with most things found in the mystical works of Aleister Crowley, the word “Abrahadabra” can be examined using the qabalistic method of gematria, which is a form of numerology, whereby correspondences are made based on numerical values.
ABRAHADABRA = 418 ABRAHADABRA has 11 letters
ABRAHADABRA = 1+2+2+1+5+1+4+1+2+2+1 = 22
The five letters in the word are: A, the Crown; B, the Wand; D, the Cup; H, the Sword; R, the Rosy Cross; and refer further to Amoun the Father, Thoth His messenger, and Isis, Horus, Osiris, the divine-human triad. using 'roll d66' for 'roll two six sided dice, assign the first to the tens digit and the second to the ones digit, and compare to this table with 36 entries labelled correspondingly' is just personally offensive. how dare you use your notation inconsistently with the convention that dN is a sample drawn from a uniform distribution of every integer between 1 and N inclusive.
potential solutions:
come up with new notation. i would be partial to something like d6 X d6
call it a d36 and make everyone do d6 * 6 + d6 - 6 in their heads every time, it's fine, don't worry about it.

Bfdi:Tpot: One is going to make a deal with Six or steal their power theory + some other theories
(Idk if this is necessarily a theory I just wanted to talk about this lol)
Am I the only person that thinks it's quite possible One is gonna make a deal with Six? Because that's how it sounds like from what One said in the episode, it's kinda implied. The problem is that from Six's reaction I think Six would know that it's not a good idea to accept a deal with One, so how would One even try to convince Six to sign? Using the objects that signed her contract and are with Six to attack Six for her or something? Possible, but even that I'm not sure if it's gonna work considering Donut declined just fine (by that I mean you can decline and she can sometimes accept that more or less) Or threatening to harm the objects that are with Six after they got some time to kinda bond with eachother?
One seemed to be running out of time and I'm not sure why, it could be for another reason, or it could be that she's leading up to this very important deal with Six that would help her to get Two's power later and knows it'd be hard to get Six to sign because Six is a fellow algebralien and probably has some power at least, so maybe that's why she's panicking. In fact, what if she wants to steal Six's power to make it easier to steal Two's power later and to get used to this stealing power thing and not be completely rusty or a newbie when she'll do the same with Two or whatever contestant that wins Tpot? (Or maybe she wants to steal as much power as she can/everyone's power)
The thing is I'm not sure if One can make Six do anything since who knows, more powerful in other ways or not, maybe Six is better at fighting compared to One, even if the subscriber specials are dubiously cannon and we're still not sure if they're cannon or not (since they would kinda mess with the timeline), I think their purpose was to help us understand the personalities of the numbers and how their species works so even if things from the subscriber specials could be retconned or completely re-witten, I think it's important to note that Six is characterized there as knowing how to fight, almost being eager to fight and harm others from getting annoyed very easily (causing them to be aggressive and harm/fight others!), and as someone who doesn't care what happens to others or about other peoples well-being in dire situations (kicking Seven, beating up Nine, leaving the other algebraliens behind instead of trying to help them escape the apocalypse as well) (also, again, also possible the subscriber specials are not cannon at all meaning that cannon Six could have a completely different personality regardless and be actually caring instead) however the thing is that, it's possible the subscriber specials are supposed to be a sort of prequel to bfdi, and if the subscriber specials are actually supposed to be a prequel to bfdi or some seasons of it, it could be that Six is the only remaining algebralien from that algebralien-filled planet and that 2763's apocalypse happened such a long time ago that Six changed as a person, the apocalypse situation changed them as a person, and now Six misses being with other people instead and is nicer because they realized how much they miss the other numbers, so this could make Six vulnerable enough to One's shenanigans.
We don't know if all the other algebraliens died and Six is the only one left or if, after the apocalypse, the other algebraliens moved and Six was the only one that decided to stay and continue to live at the equation playground. It could even be that some died and some moved afterwards, like Seven and Ten might have also survived since we saw them as drawings in Four's innerworld AND they along with Six also appeared as possible alternate universe versions of Two. (We don't actually know if algebraliens CAN die, we know they don't need to sleep, and I'm pretty sure they don't need to eat either if I remember correctly, algebraliens are very god-coded with their immense power and ways of being honestly, I've always seen them like a species of alien-gods for the most part)
It's Also possible if other algebraliens survived but decided to move from the planet that they decided to let Six, or make Six, live at the equation playground and be the only one that doesn't move from that planet to stay guard in case something massive happens again and make it harder for disasters that would affect the whole species to occur, making Six a caretaker of the planet where the equation playground is located basically as that planet seems to have some important algebralien things like the division symbol and other things that might need to be kept in check, preserved, and guarded so the wrong people don't use them.
(Of course it's also possible Six works with One, and is waaaaay better at pretending then One, or more serious about their job, but from that scene I just really doubt that's the case, thought Six trusting those random aliens (the objects that found Six at the equation playground) and the objects trusting this random algebralien (Six) dosen't necessarily seem that smart, but the situation seemed urgent so it's in a way understandable, still very easy for them to trick eachother, we know the objects won't but have no actual idea about Six, the way One looked at the map makes me concerned for Six more so then think Six is working for One to trick the objects so that's why I find this possibility unlikely)
Uhh? Idk what to put here lol
Another small fun theory, that idk if it counts as more of a theory or more of a head cannon/ au idea, is that maybe once algebraliens gain a certain age (and algebraliens live a lot, and I mean a lot of years, thousand of years if not more it seems) they are meant to leave the algebralien planet and go find their own planet to live on, instead of having their residency on the mother planet anymore, and maybe Four, X, Two, One, perhaps even Three and potentially Fifteen have reached that age and that's (at least one reason) why they've left earlier. And maybe out of all of them Six is the youngest, explaining why they're the only one left at the equation playground and why Four and One have a door in their innerworld specifically designed to bring them back to the equation playground, so that every algebralien if needed could go back to their species's home planet where young algebraliens reside to protect them if needed. This would be cool since algebraliens are meant to be aliens but they don't really feel very alien they always felt more like gods up until this point, so if they made such a lore thing it would make them feel more alien. And like that's why Six would say they're the only left, because any other algebraliens their age are further away on the planet in their own communities, and they're grouped in different communities that are further away from eachother on the planet, and the other algebraliens Six was apart of a community with, Seven, Fourteen etc. left because they came of age, and everyone part of Six's community group came of age except for them being the reason Six was left all alone.
I wrote this post late at night a few days ago right after watching tpot17 when I got the time
Edit: I also wanted to add that the 2763 subscriber special is VERY different from all the other subscriber specials, formula wise and in general, so even if all the other subscriber specials may be not cannon, the 2763 subscriber special (and it's continuation when it comes out, or continuations) could still be cannon in itself since it's so differently made in general and seems more important. But again we're not sure if any of the subscriber specials are cannon or not, but I really wanted to mention that it's very possible the 2763 subscriber special is cannon while the other subscriber specials may not be. Could also be that the first subscriber special is the only non-cannon one honestly since Four and X are there and there's objects that shouldn't be that at that time.

Hii could you make a trans algebralien flag?? If you dont know what it means im gonna leave the wiki page here
https://battlefordreamisland.fandom.com/wiki/Algebralians
Also I would like other flags related with algebraliens aswell like "Trans integer" or "Trans variable" but you don't need to do it if its too much for you :3
— transalgebralien [ trans-algebralien ]
when an individual wants to be / identifies as an algebralien !
— i decided to make a flag with the six because i saw it and thought it was really cute !

Epiphany, Pt. 4
McKay cannot hear Sheppard shouting his name beyond the portal, having spent hours separated from the others by this time, but McKay is definitely thinking about Sheppard just as hard as Sheppard is thinking about him. McKay rips out a bouquet of flowers that he intends to send through the portal, symbolically passing them on to Sheppard. And because Ronon and Teyla seem to have no idea why he is doing it and are wondering if he has lost his whole damn mind, one or both of them must have thought that McKay was doing exactly that, picking flowers to send to Sheppard.
McKay: To test a theory. Work with me here, people! Look, if I'm right, we need to hurry. Dex: What are you doing, McKay? McKay: I am trying to determine how much faster time is passing on the other side of the portal than it is here.
But as always, there is a method to McKay's madness and he has an actual reason for doing this. What is interesting is what McKay says here. He is clearly answering a question, and he looks at Teyla as does, only we heard no question. Either Teyla had asked McKay a question that we simply did not get to hear or he was answering an unspoken question on her face or even in her thoughts. It is not impossible for adrenaline to heighten what ever abilities the Ancient gene might have given McKay, and just as always, he does not even need to be aware of anything strange taking place. McKay is not particularly good at reading other people and yet here he is answering a question no one asked but they definitely thought. This is even lampshaded by the question that Ronon does then voice, which has basically the same meaning but is the wrong syntax for McKay's answer.
McKay's solution is clever, using living matter to figure out the time-differential. At the back of his mind he already fears that this is true but he needs to know for sure before he can start figuring out what to do about it. His task is made more difficult by the peanut gallery suddenly having lost all faith in his abilities, and again we can see how differently people treat McKay when Sheppard is not around. While Sheppard might have hurried McKay, it is doubtful that he had to have fought his way to figuring this out with Sheppard if it had been Ronon or Teyla that had fallen to the other side.
Teyla: Why would time progress faster? Dex: It doesn't make any sense. McKay: That is what I am trying to prove! Now, just wait. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine... Dex: McKay... McKay: ...ten, bear with me, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, and twenty. A lot faster!
McKay pushes the flowering branches into the energy field just as he had done with the MALP-on-a-stick earlier, holding it out like a fishing rod. Ronon seems to be at the end of his patience with McKay, and we see Teyla exchange a look with him, rolling her eyes. Both of them seem incapable of understanding what the problem is and why McKay is acting so strangely.
But let us make note of this: McKay is not counting out seconds here. It is a known method of calculating approximate seconds to add some multiple syllable word (Mis-sis-sip-pi, hip-po-po-ta-mus, one-thous-and, steam-boat) after each integer because people usually have a difficult time approximating seconds and counting out loud, people tend to speed it up without meaning to. And while McKay is a Physicist, he has a notoriously poor sense of time that may at least partially be explained by his tendency to dissociate. So while he may think that he is counting seconds here, he is actually counting much too fast. And it could even be that because Ronon and Teyla are both rushing him, are demanding proofs and answers before he can produce the evidence that he feels like he has to do this faster than he ought to. He keeps the branch in as long as he dares under Ronon's gaze and it is enough to prove his point. He may not get an accurate evaluation of how fast time is passing on the other side but it is enough to both get a ballpark and to convince the others of the nature of the problem. Sheppard is in trouble.
When we return to Sheppard in the cave, over 8 hours has passed for him. He is starting to sound defeated, his exhaustion showing in how he sits down on a rock in order to try to contact the others again, hoping against hope that they might answer him this time. He seems to be switching between addressing all of them and speaking to McKay because, not knowing about the fact that time is passing much more quickly for him, he thinks that McKay should have been able to figure this one out by now. He has such absolute faith in McKay's abilities that he has been expecting them to bust through the barrier ever since he got pulled through. He is living in "any minute now..." mode, and it is trusting in McKay that makes him unable to give up. But he is getting concerned.
Sheppard: Can you hear me now? The cave opens up to the other side of the ridge but there's nothing in the immediate area I can survive on.
The wide shot of Sheppard emphasizes how alone he is in the cave. We also see him toss the radio to the ground. He opens the radio, opens his mouth to say something more, but then decides against it, getting up and talking away from the radio despondently. He is clearly close to giving up. He is close but not quite there, as next we see him, he has retrieved the radio because he has a few more things to say to the others, and now he definitely seems to be talking to McKay in particular. We also see that he has quite the stubble going on, showing us not just the passage of time but how fast his facial hair grows on the man with a near-permanent five o'clock shadow. By now, it has been over a day for him meaning that this is taking place c. 15 minutes in.
Sheppard: OK, that's day two and I'm out of water. We don't leave our people behind. Right?
The first part here is Sheppard giving a sitrep, he is still trying to do the responsible thing and hold on to protocol, to help them help him. On the off chance that anyone would be able to receive his communique, he is giving them pertinent information. But the second part, while it may be something that he has tried to instill on his team through personal example e.g, by coming to rescue Ronon and Teyla from their cell recently, it is something that is a particular tenet of the US military for which McKay has been contracting for many years, which they both serve. Not leaving their people behind is something that the SGC lives by, it is something that he knows McKay would understand. But it is protocol, and by appealing to that he is showing the seeds of doubt that the prolonged loneliness has been sowing in his mind. So far, McKay has always shown up for him. When ever he has needed McKay, he has been there.
And it is not out of duty that McKay has come for him, has tried to save him again and again, but out of love. McKay had only just risked his life out of love for him, and while he might have had a few choice words about that for McKay that we never got to hear, he hadn't really meant them. He had meant the part about McKay not risking his life for him, but that did not mean that he did not want and need McKay to come through for him in a pinch. And this is beginning to feel like a real pinch. A part of him is offended that McKay has not come for him yet because he thinks that the others are literally standing a few feet away, how hard can it be? There is a note of bitterness, even anger in his tone here. He expected more from them, he expected better.
Sheppard: How about sending me a signal to show me that you're still there? Doesn't have to be a rock, you can write a damned note.
But just as soon as he has that out of his system, he changes his tone. And his tone is so soft here that he can only be speaking to McKay. He is speaking to a lover, pleading to hear from them. He just wants to know that McKay is still there, nothing more. He wants to know that he is not alone. And let us underscore the fact that he is not saying that he wants a note in order to know that they are working on it, that they are coming for him. He just wants to know that McKay is still there. We also get confirmation that he is speaking to McKay here in that in real time, McKay only too late realizes that he should have sent Sheppard a note. He thought about it but likely because he had to fight Ronon and Teyla the whole way there, he simply did not have bandwidth to think about everything that he should have done for Sheppard. But a note was on both of their minds. Communicating with the other through time and space. Touching base. Letting the other know that they were thinking about them.
Sheppard: I'm gonna turn off my radio for another six hours to conserve the battery, and try to get some sleep. Sheppard out.
Here, Sheppard lets them know that he is going to shut down his radio so that they do not worry if they don't hear from him for a while, letting us know that he is thinking about them. But what is interesting is what happens between the things he says. After basically begging for McKay to send him a note, anything to let him know that he is still there, Sheppard opens his radio to say something more. He waits for a beat, and then closes the radio. There was something that he wanted to say but then thought better of it, made the decision not to say it. Or he chickened out from saying what he felt like saying. He is tired, apparently not having been able to sleep for the whole time that he has been there. And now he says that he will try to get some sleep, which also tells us something, given that Sheppard seems to have developed that soldier's skill of getting Z's whenever, where ever. This is also another case of Sheppard updating McKay on his sleeping plans and arrangements because for some strange reason Sheppard seems to feel the need to keep McKay apprised of that.
Sheppard takes a seat against the wall so that he is facing the portal, that he will be ready there the moment McKay will come to get him. He wants to stay as close as he can to where he knows he had last seen him, his last known whereabouts. It is not unlike we saw him try to sleep on the hive in the previous episode, the wraith worshiper pressing herself against his side. But let us note the way he rubs his own thigh here, seeming to give himself some comfort with the touch. While we cannot be sure when the last time was that he actually had some sleep with McKay, given both of their preference for sleeping on their left sides, the hand rubbing his own thigh would have been the same hand with which he could have held on to McKay when he did sleep with him. We might interpret it as such in light of his propensity both for self-soothing and auto-erotic touching. Touching someone's thigh with his right hand just as he closes his eyes may be a way of keeping someone close to him even when they are not there.

Ballet starts up again on Wednesday, so I'm trying to make the most of my evenings today and tomorrow. School work went well today, but I had a lot to copy for Art Appreciation, my semester course that replaces Music Appreciation for the spring. I couldn't show all of it, but it was six pages of copywork!
I am drinking honeydew milk tea with brown sugar boba. It is amazing! It has all the flavor and sweetness of honeydew with the added richness of brown sugar. I am in love. If you have not tried it, 10 out of 10 recommend! Dad made kung pao noodles for dinner, and I've been sipping slowly on this tea since then. I don't want to take the last sip, but I must at some point tonight.
I also worked a bit on the Business Startup badge last night. It's the one we were working on Sunday at our meeting. I asked several members of the gaming guild I'm in what they look for in a planner, like their must haves and wants. I got good answers. They are, of course, much older than me, mostly mid-thirties and older, but they had some good ideas! I'll present it to the group next Monday. It's a double meeting week for us. I love those weeks!
I guess I could ask the question here too! What do you look for in planners? What are your must-haves and your nice-to-haves? Comment below!
Tasks Completed:
Algebra 2 - Reviewed exponent rules + simplified numerical expressions and algebraic expressions with integer exponents
American Literature - Copied vocabulary terms + read about the realist legacy and the late 1940s + read about postmodernism + read about argumentative essays + read about establishing strong arguments using research and evidence
