Shame comes from the Old English scamu meaning "painful feeling of guilt or disgrace; state of being in disgrace; dishonor, insult, loss of esteem or reputation; modesty," from PIE *skem “to cover" (covering oneself being a common expression of shame). 

Shame is when you want the world to swallow you whole because you perceive you have done something wrong or unacceptable. If our conscience is clear - there is actually no reason to feel shame.

To feel a-shamed is a-sham. A sham that enables the system to get our energy. Emotion is energy in motion and in my opinion our emotional energy is what the system is existing on. We should be a neutral observer, not divided by emotional duality. A sham is “a trick put upon one, a hoax, a fraud, something that deludes or disappoints expectation”

Shame is a shame because no one can make us feel shame but ourselves. The sham is to lose self esteem - to give our energy over to whoever or whatever is making us feel ashamed instead of keeping our self energy-steam or esteem. Energy vampires love to make others feel shame. They don’t make enough life force on their own & must harvest from others.

the source of shame is entirely internal, coming from our own self-criticism and perception of the self, rather than external factors like other people's judgments or actions; essentially, you are the only one who can make you feel ashamed because you are judging yourself harshly based on your own standards.

Feeling shame can often be linked to low self-esteem or a tendency to hold yourself to very high, unrealistic standards. To overcome this feeling, it's important to cultivate self-compassion and challenge negative self-beliefs. 

Others can attempt to make us feel shame but once you are comfortable with your truth and self - it doesn’t work. Once we realize others see life through their own experiences and perception and we cannot make others see our side no matter what we do there is an inner peace that the attempted shame of another doesn’t bother. You begin to see it is their expectations and standards being pushed on you and you don’t have to live like someone else does. Next time you feel shame try to see all the angles. If you aren’t doing anything wrong within your conscience, then the feeling of shame is a sham.
