I joined USK Singapore in 2010 and it has been life changing. Sketching became a lifestyle rather than a pre-vis exercise. Nothing changed really except now I decided to carry a sketchbook everywhere.

I remembered Hong Kong was the first country where I decided to travel and sketch at the same time, and I just joined USK Singapore. The journey became a lot more memorable. Of course I could only remember bits and pieces of it now since this was done more than 10 years ago.

I am always fascinated by the varied building structures and architectural styles of Hong Kong city, unlike those in Singapore. I could sit all day sketching the buildings, the backdrop of high rise buildings that tower into the sky. I like the eateries that are so full of character. I remembered Times Square that was bustling with people while the traffic was deafening. Then there was Macau which was so contrasting with the city. The only regret I have after the trip was not staying longer and sketching more.

The tool that I was using wasn't a Hero fountain pen but a Lamy (Medium), a birthday gift from my wife. I loved it because it was so versatile and convenient to use. My breakthrough was sketching buildings and capturing a wider scene.
