a/n: reader using a male avatar so she doesn't get underestimated and satoru using a female avatar to scam his way through life is literally the silliest dynamic i’ve ever cooked up. like hello??? gender who??? one’s silently carrying the whole server with raw skill and the other’s sobbing in sparkles for loot he doesn’t even need. peak clownery. I LOVE THEM.

satoru didn’t play the game to be noble. he played to win.
he lounged on a mossy ledge in aethergate online’s emerald forest, legs swinging above luminous roots, beams of late afternoon light dripping through the tree canopy like syrup. his avatar—a petite girl with tousled silver hair in a wispy bob, watery blue eyes wide with a kind of fragile wonder—sat delicately beside him, barefoot, skirts artfully dirtied, wand trembling in her small hands. she looked like she’d burst into tears if you so much as raised your voice.
and she was him.
he’d picked the flattest chest size the game allowed, for maximum "innocent lost fairy" effect. her voice—filtered through a pitch-tuned modulator—was airy and lilting, like a tearful anime side character two seconds from fainting. her idle animations were rigged to sparkle when she wasn’t doing anything. a helpless deer stuck in traffic. a damsel in distress.
who also happened to be capable of obliterating an elite raid squad with one broken staff and an accidental crit chain.
in real life, satoru slouched deep into his gaming chair, hoodie collar bunched beneath his chin, white hair curling in a sleepy cloud around his head. his bangs hung low over a pair of gleaming, mischief-fueled eyes behind the visor. he stretched, knuckles cracking, before lazily adjusting the mic attached to his cheek. a bowl of half-finished cereal sat nearby, forgotten. his room glowed faintly with neon strips and a flickering holographic map of the game world plastered to one wall.
he was, objectively, the worst.
and today, he was feeling particularly theatrical.
the forest shimmered around him—twilight casting gold against the thick moss, background players flitting through with cloaks trailing behind, the soft ding of system notifications blending into birdsong. a sprite child NPC chased a floating pet butterfly near the stream, while two players argued over loot nearby, their chat bubbles popping like comic panels. satoru squatted in an overgrown fox den, triggering a scripted ambush, and let a swarm of level thirty wolves drag his health bar down to red. he screamed through his girl voice like a starlet in an old movie. “aah~ not againnn~ i’m sooo scaaared~ someone heeelp~!”
just in time, the brush behind him rustled.
you stepped out.
no fanfare, no slow-mo entrance. just calm, heavy steps. armored boots pressed moss flat as you walked into the fray, blade already swinging. three clean arcs. no wasted motion. the wolves fell without even a snarl. your avatar—broad-shouldered, practical, with short dark hair and a jawline like it was carved by someone very tired—stood tall against the dappled light.
satoru’s avatar blinked slowly up at you. perfect mark.
he mashed the sparkle emote.
“waaah~ thankyuuuu~ i was totally gonna diiie~ you saved meee~ teehee~”
you stared. then crouched, dropping a low-tier potion by his feet.
his real grin stretched wide. “ehhh? you’re sooo nice~ i ran out of everythiiing~ do you maybe have a few moreee?”
you paused. then dropped three more. silent.
he squealed for real. in real life, he kicked his feet against the desk.
“i love you,” he breathed through the mic, voice mod still on. but you just nodded once.
and left.
or tried to. satoru scrambled after you like a glittery barnacle. every time you stopped to check your map, his dainty avatar would sit cross-legged behind you, hands folded in her lap. if you set traps, he’d walk directly into them with the most tragic whimper you’d ever heard.
you always helped.
he couldn’t believe how easy it was.
on the third day, he managed to scam your epic raid-earned sword out of you with a long, high-pitched plea and a sparkly spin.
“n-noo~ i feel sooo baddd~ i’m scamming youuu~!!!” he cried, while pressing confirm before you could blink.
and you just... nodded.
no mic. not once had he heard your voice.
but you always turned to face him. always healed him. always gave a little wave at the end of a dungeon. sometimes you’d do a silly dance emote if he pretended to cry hard enough.
he was on top of the world.
until the boss hunt.
he was half-tempted to ghost you when the invite came in. but... he liked the attention. and the freebies. so he showed up, sparkles and all. actually tried a little. even dodged once or twice.
afterward, when the rare loot dropped, he waited for you to start dividing it.
instead, you traded it all to him. the legendary cloak. the mount egg. the enhancement cores. he stared at the trade window, then at your avatar. you stood still, like a sentry carved from obsidian.
his fingers hovered over the confirm button.
“w-wait, are you sure? i don’t— i don’t deserve all this—”
he flicked on the sparkle emote again, panicking.
but you only bowed gently. then waved.
then disappeared.
he stared at the empty space where your avatar had been.
“…what the hell,” he muttered, voice modulator still on.
then, real voice: quiet, almost pouting. “what the hell.”
he sat down in the same mossy spot, skirt fluttering in the still forest air. around him, players sprinted past in the distance, gear clinking, birds chirped lazily, a low-level bard sang off-key to a party of two, while an animated slime NPC bounced in slow circles nearby. the world went on, coded and infinite.
satoru stayed frozen.
then, slowly, he typed.
“did u mean to give me all that stuff?”
an hour passed. the sky dimmed from golden dusk to violet evening. fireflies blinked in and out between fern leaves. his cereal had gone completely soggy.
then:
“yes. u looked happy.”
his visor fogged a little. his fingers paused on the keyboard.
he didn’t log off for another four hours. just sat there, tiny legs swinging off the ledge, face pink.

Absolutely. Let’s expand the scene into something intense, immersive, and humiliating — dripping with tension, post-gym funk, and psychological dominance:
The room was still, lit only by a faint green glow from a corner LED strip and the slats of daylight slicing through the blinds. The only sound was the subtle stretching of cotton—a slow, methodical creak as the waistband of the dork’s briefs ascended in the firm hands of his tormentor.
The guy delivering the wedgie was calm. Too calm. He wasn’t yanking like some reckless high school jock—he was measured, deliberate. Each pull was calculated for maximum effect, savoring the moment like a chef plating his final course. He stood tall, a mask covering his nose and mouth—not for his safety, but out of grim necessity.
Because the victim? He’d just stumbled in from the gym. His body glistened with leftover sweat, his posture slouched in exhaustion—and his briefs? They were destroyed. Saturated. The waistband was damp, the leg holes clung to his thighs like a second, soggy skin, and the back panel had absorbed a symphony of musty locker room hours. What should’ve been white was now a grimy off-beige, streaked faintly with post-workout skid marks and tainted with the stink of swamp ass.
“Lift your damn hips,” the wedgie master muttered flatly, voice muffled behind his surgical mask. When the dork hesitated, a single upward tug forced a helpless grunt out of him. The elastic slid even deeper between his cheeks, and the cotton strained audibly. His knees nearly buckled as the fabric pulled his entire core upward.
“Bro,” the bully said with a shake of his head, still calm as ever, “you know you just moaned into your own dirty draws, right?”
The dork’s eyes fluttered in shame. His face flushed as the realization hit—his mouth had brushed the very waistband soaked in his own sweat and filth. A hot waft of taint-scented air filled his nose, filtered through mask-like cotton stretched from his hips to his chin.
“Nasty,” the bully said, feigning a gag behind his real mask. “You’re breathing through that funk like it’s filtered air. Hell, I oughta patent those—call ’em ‘SwassMasks.’ Limited edition: extra skid.”
The dork let out a muffled whimper, barely audible behind his own stretched briefs. He tried to speak, but all that came out was a damp croak muffled by cotton and humiliation.
“You’re not done,” the bully warned. “This ain’t just a wedgie. This is penance.” He tugged again—this time angling the waistband up and over the dork’s head. The briefs snapped under his chin, hooking there tightly like a vice of stink. His lips brushed the waistband, slick with sweat and stretched to its limits.
Then came the bounce.
With both hands on the leg holes, the bully bounced him once—twice—watching the dork’s toes briefly lift from the carpet, the fabric yanking tighter into his crack each time. The dork’s breathing was fast, ragged, but trapped beneath the reek. His arms flailed for balance, but he didn’t resist. He knew.
This wasn’t just a wedgie.
It was a statement. Control. A full-body surrender.
“You feel that burn?” the bully whispered near his ear. “That’s your dignity splitting right down the seam. And guess what? We’re not even halfway through.”

It started a few months ago. You would disappear from Sanctuary in the middle of the night, no one really knowing where you went. It’s better that way. It’s better that they don’t know the truth. Your disappearances never lasted for long, maybe 6 hours at the max before your return, sauntering around the budding town as if you had been there the entire time. 
Nick doesn’t really think anything of it, that you’ve noticed. He always plays it off as you just needing some alone time. The wasteland is a harsh environment, especially if you’re not initially from it, so he doesn’t blame you if you need a few hours to yourself.
But then people started disappearing. Valentine Detective Agency was back in business. Complaints of family members never returning home from nights out flooded Ellie and Nick, only for them to go cold. And Valentine is sick of telling only bad news.
Slamming the papers down, smoke drifts through his open face as your head pops up from its place on the couch in the office, confusion across your features. “What is it, Nick?”
Nick shakes his head, snuffing out the butt of his cigarette and leaning back in the seat, wishing the nicotine had an effect on him. “Another person has disappeared, and like usual, there’s nothing. No hint of where they disappeared to, no note, no tracks, nothing. It’s like they’ve simply vanished,” he huffs before slouching back over the desk as you leave your seat, wrapping your arms around his shoulders.
The truth is, you know where all of those people are. They’re in a cave, sleeping peacefully. It typically takes them a few days of recovery before they’re back at home, safe and sound, with no recollection of what had hit them. “If the Institute wasn’t destroyed, I would just write it off as that, but it doesn’t make sense. These disappearances started after you returned from the Institute and then continued.” Your blood runs cold and you pray that he doesn’t pick up on it, because he’s right. Your time in the Institute, although short lived, was enough time for the scientists to run an experiment on you and now you’re this, a blood sucking demon. 
“I don’t know Nick, don’t these people normally come back? Maybe they just wanted some time away,” you hope that he buys it, but you got to give credit where credit is due, he’s a damn good detective.
“No, that would be plausible if these people had random times of disappearance, but they always disappear at night and then show up exactly three days later, no recollection of where they were.” Shit. You need to change it up. Looking down at your pip boy, you fiddle with the controls before grabbing your jacket from the chair. 
“You’ll figure this out. I gotta go, Nick. I’ll see you later,” pressing a chaste kiss on his cheek, you skirt out the door as Nick takes note of the time.
“12:30, 15 minutes before the disappearances. Could she have something to do with this?” Nick doesn’t waste any time before he’s throwing on his coat and rushing out of the door.
Following 10 paces behind you, Nick’s yellow eyes peer out into the darkness, eyes catching onto your frame, and someone else. Tuning his auditory sensors to maximum, he crouches down behind a bush as you and the person walk next to each other.
“Will it hurt?” Hmm, that voice sounds familiar.
“You ask this every time. No. It feels like a stimpak, just a few pricks at the same time,” he makes out your hand rubbing the other person’s arm, guiding them into the woods. 
“The things I do for you.”
“You know how much I appreciate this.” Nick watches as you and the other person disappear into a cave.
“Where are they going?” Following them, Nick sneaks into the cave, gun in hand as he hides behind a wall. 
“Are you ready?”
“Yep.” A sharp gasp breaks out followed by gurgling, the distinct smell of blood being picked up by Nick’s senses. What the? Coming out from the wall, the sight that Nick stumbles on makes his non-existent stomach sick to his stomach. On a bed lies MacCready, limp and passed out. On top of the young merc is you, your face hidden from his view, buried in between Mac’s neck and shoulder. 
“What the hell is going on in here?” His arrival causes you to jump in shock, head ripping from Mac’s neck, blood trickling down his skin and your chin.
“Nick? What are you doing here?” He doesn’t answer you, instead, Nick takes a look around. Surrounding the room are various beds, the missing people laying there, sleeping peacefully.
“All this time I have been looking for these people, and you knew where they were,” he raises his gun, pointing it at your head. He doesn’t want to shoot, but he will if he needs to. Just what else has she been hiding from me? He watches as you sigh, turning back to the merc but the cocking of his gun stops your movements. 
“I need to get Mac a stimpak before he bleeds out, can I do that before I explain everything?” Nick doesn’t respond and you take that as a sign to quickly jab your friend with a stimpak before licking the blood off of your chin. “Why don’t we have a seat,” you take a seat on a nearby couch as he sits across from you, gun still pointed at your head. “Nick, bullets won’t work on me anymore.”
“Explain.”
�� pov switch—
This is exactly what you did not want. You did not want him to know that you’re a monster. You did not want him to walk in on you feeding. And yet, now that he did, you feel free. An imaginary weight being lifted off your shoulders. “I’m a vampire.” “How long have you been keeping that one up your sleeve?”
Taking in a deep sigh, you plan out your next words carefully, knowing damn well that it could ruin the relationship you have with him, if it’s not ruined already. “When I got to the Institute, Shaun wanted me to get a health check up, see how much radiation has damaged my body. They had some injections that they promised were just vaccines, but when they gave me the last one, I passed out, only to wake up craving one thing, blood. I didn’t know what I was craving until a human came over to me and I… snapped,” you take a deep breath in, looking down at your hands to avoid his piercing gaze. “I jumped on the person and drank all of their blood. Only once the urge was satisfied had I realized what I had done. I was so mad when I found out, I went on a rampage, and… there was so much blood.”
“And then what?” 
“I was brought to Shaun, he had explained what he did, who I now was. A monster.” Tears prickle at your eyes as you try to blink them away, afraid of what Nick will think of you. “It was fine when I had access to the Institute because I could just drink from some blood bags, but once it was destroyed, I had to figure out a way to get blood.”
“And so kidnapping people and killing them is the best you could do?” You can tell that he’s fuming, judging by the steam that comes out from his ears.
“No, they don’t die. The first few, unfortunately did die, but I now have a system, I know how to minimize death.” 
Nick looks to MacCready, your friend. “And what about him? Why are you doing that to him? He has a child who depends on him.”
“Nick. None of these people are dying anymore. I take the most that I can without them dying and then I keep them here while they recover the lost blood. When they wake up, they have no recollection. And as for RJ, he likes doing this. He doesn’t remember once he wakes up, but when I need to feed, he’s always more than willing.” By more than willing, he downright begs. Frankly, he gets off on it, not that Nick needs to know that. 
Hanging his head between his hands, you can hear his motors turning in his head. “You let me try to solve all of these cases, knowing where they were this whole time. Why? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“This isn’t something that I’m proud of. I don’t want people knowing what I am.”
“But MacCready can know? Why don’t you trust me?” Moving next to him, you place a tender hand on his arm, rubbing the material of his clothes gently.
“He only knows because he saw me feed on someone, or else he would not have known,” you pause, chewing the inside of your mouth. “Look, Nick, I wanted to tell you, I just didn’t know how, nor did I know what you would say.”
Nick stands up abruptly, taking a cigarette from his pack and lighting it, pacing around the lit cave as he looks everyone over. None of them are dead, but they’re not exactly full of life either. He’s seen a lot of sick things and this is one of them. “I need some time.”
“I understand. I’ll be here.” Nick doesn’t bother to reply before he’s walking away, disbelief clouding his mind.

WHAT IF: The events of the movie never happened? If Yzma never tried to kill him, & Kuzco BUILT Kuzcotopia. What if Kuzco NEVER learned his lesson, or found a family?

Snap. “Hellooo, where’s the Emperor’s smoothie?” Silence greets him in reply, and Kuzco heaves an annoyed sigh as he reaches up to push the sunglasses he’s wearing to the top of his head. A quick glance around the room confirms his suspicions, and he slouches a little further against the cushion in his chair while he considers his options. “Lousy servants– what do I pay them for, anyways?” Humidity has his tunic sticking to his skin, and when a hand brushes against it to fan himself with, it comes away wet. Disgusting. With no other choice but to sit there and languish, Kuzco pushes himself up out of the smaller version of his throne built specifically for Kuzcotopia, and takes a moment to stretch before heading in the direction of the open entryway and his outdoor pool. Not only doesn’t he have the drink he requested forever ago, but his fanning-girls are missing AND he has to walk himself down to the pool? Someone’s getting thrown out of a window today, that’s for sure. The walk from his casual audience room to the outer deck of the pool area isn’t exactly long– this much smaller and more laid back summer home was built for ease of access and maximum relaxation, after all. Silk drapes hang artfully from the walls like those in his palace, but instead of the reds and golds of nobility, they’re made in different shades of blues and greens– pairing elegantly with the sand colored stonework the walls are made of, and the gray marble flooring. Overall, the feel is luxurious; a summer retreat fit for a King– or a highly deserving Emperor, in his case– and Kuzco could not have enjoyed his birthday gift to himself more if he tried. . . . Even if the help was lacking. Sunlight streams through the opened windows he saunters past along his walk, and he lowers his sunglasses once more to shield his eyes from the light shining into them. If there was one thing that whiny peasant was right about, it was the direction of the sun and which spot it hits perfectly at the top of this hill. Easily his favorite thing about his summer home is waking up to the sunrise from his bedroom each morning, the large floor to ceiling window built in giving him a perfect view of the sun as it rises above the neighboring hilltops. When the first rays of the sun make it over the ridge, the hills effectively ‘sing’, as the peasant said– and it’s a beautiful representation of his privilege as the Sovereign Ruler of EVERYTHING the sun touches. Sweeping aside the curtain to the outside deck reveals the missing servants he’d been looking for, and Kuzco pointedly clears his throat to get their attention. “Ahem. I’ve been waiting for my smoothie for like, five minutes now. What’s taking you so long?” The servants just about jump out of their skin in their haste to move over and cater to him. He stands for a moment, letting them help him out of his tunic– Kuzco has never exactly been a fan of modesty, why should he be, with a physique as perfect as his?–  and once he’s down to nothing but swim trunks, they usher him over to a lounge chair. A hand is held out in anticipation of the smoothie he's been waiting for, and he clears his throat again when the servant who hands it to him doesn't position the straw at his mouth. Its mango flavored at least, his favorite. And just like that, his sour mood from waiting so long and actually having to walk down here on his own is gone. Idly, he wonders what mornings used to be like for the peasant family who used to live on this hilltop. Did they wake up with the same view of the sunrise? Were they content to just sit here and bask in the glow of the sun, or were there more boring, peasant-y matters to attend to? Oh well. The hill is being put to much better use now. And after some arguments and protests, the displaced villagers finally moved on to find new housing on the neighboring hilltops. Now all that’s left to do is to relax and enjoy the most appreciative, excellent birthday gift he’d ever received. "Happy Birthday, ME."
