Josh David Barrett is a Two-Time Grammy Nominated Singer and Bassist, whose musical journey has carried him from his "churchical" upbringings, to performing for over 20 years with the top artists of the day. He joined the legendary band "The Wailers" in 2015, they continue to spread JAH message of One Love in the Roots, Rock, Reggae sound as created and inspired by the great Bob Marley & The Wailers. A native of New Jersey of indigenous and Jamaican ascent, Josh was blessed to grow up around many cutting edge musicians, hailing from the same Union County, NJ as the legendary Funk group, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic.
Before becoming the Lead Vocalist of The Wailers, his extensive experience as a bassist and producer led him to work with many Gospel greats such as, Bishop George Searight & Royal Priesthood, Tramaine Hawkins, Kim Burrell, Donovan Jackson & Joshua Generation, and many others. After receiving his B.A. in Jazz Performance from William Paterson University, he went on to record and perform with such artists as, Q-Tip (ATCQ), Common, Quincy Jones, Mary J. Blige, Joy Denalane, Smif n Wesson, Silent Knight, Soul Cycle, Soul Understated, Zoe Maza (Germany), Solange, Kendrick Lamar, Nas, and Kanye West. In recent times, Josh David has worked with top Bluesman and CEO of True Groove Global Soul Records, Tomás Doncker; renowned Ethiopian singer Teddy Afro, and Grammy award winning producer Commissioner Gordon (Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse, Ghetto Youths, White Tiger Society).
The call to Reggae music inspired Josh David Barrett to form the band "Judah Tribe" in 2004. A collaboration of friends and local bandmates with whom they released their debut album "Nu Day Dawnin" in 2013. Destiny would have it that Judah Tribe would open for The Wailers in 2012 at N.J. P.A.C. (Newark, NJ), where he and distant relatives Aston "Family Man" Barrett, Sr. and Aston Jr. would cross paths, leading to his joining forces with the Wailers team three years later. In honor and homage to the original "3 Wise Men" who laid the path before him, "The Wailin’ Wailers", The Honorable Robert Nesta Marley, O.M., The Honorable Peter Tosh, O.M., and The Honorable Bunny Wailer, O.M., Josh David continues to lead with his energetic performances. Whether with Wailers, his own band, or as a supporter, his mission remains steadfast in giving "Ises" (praises) to Ethiopia’s "Talaku Meri" (Great Leader), and Rastafarian God, Emperor Haile Selassie I, spreading the message of true "Livity" in the name of The LORD.

Smif-N-Wesson used to rap as Cocoa Brovaz
Tek and Steele are founding members of the Boot Camp Click. Together, the duo is known as Smif-N-Wesson. However, in the 1990s, a lawsuit from the gun maker of the same name forced the rappers to change their name to Cocoa Brovaz in 1996. Then, in 2005 they changed it back to Smif-N-Wesson. Their debut album Dah Shinin was an underground smash. Rude Awakening is the album released as Cocoa…

Mary J. Blige Collection, HERSTORY, Vol. 1 - Mary J. Blige, the legendary Grammy and Golden Globe winning and Oscar nominated singer-songwriter, actress, philanthropist and honorary Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, will release an immersive box set of her biggest 1990s hits along with rare remixes, HERstory, Vol. 1, on December 6 via UMe. The collection will be released in three physical forms: a set of eight standard-weight black 7" vinyl records, a 1CD version, a 2LP set and a digital version. From her solo 1992 hit "You Remind Me" to the 1993 remix of "What's the 411" featuring K-Ci (of K-Ci and JoJo) and the Notorious B.I.G., HERstory, Vol. 1 tells the story of Blige as she first established herself as a tour de force of '90s R&B. Born in the Bronx and raised between Savannah, Georgia and Yonkers, New York, Blige caught the attention of Andre Harrell, co-founder of Uptown Records in 1988 when she recorded a cover of Anita Baker's 1986 ballad "Caught Up in the Rapture" at the Galleria Mall in Westchester, New York. After a few years as a backing singer for Uptown artists like Father MC, she launched from the projects to stardom, recording her 3x platinum 1992 debut, What's the 411?, with Sean "Puffy" Combs behind the board. 411's singles "You Remind Me," "Real Love," "Reminisce" and "Love No Limit" are represented on HERstory, Vol. 1; the first in its original form, the latter three in remixes previously unreleased on 7" format. Enjoy this audio stream below after the jump and please share this with friends. Please Reblog!

Smif-N-Wessun's Dah Shinin' Album Anniversary
They released their first single "Bucktown" b/w "Let's Git It On" in early 1994, which became an underground smash and gave the group considerable hype for their debut album, Dah Shinin'. Released in January 1995, their album peaked at number 59 on the Billboard 200 and number 5 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, and went on to sell over 300,000 copies in the United States. Along with "Bucktown", the album featured the singles "Wrekonize" b/w "Sound Bwoy Bureill" and "Wontime" b/w "Stand Strong". Dah Shinin became an influential album in the hardcore New York City hip hop scene of the mid-1990s. Soon after the release of their debut, Smif-N-Wessun received a cease and desist order over their group name by the Smith & Wesson firearms company. To avoid the lawsuit, they changed their name to Cocoa Brovaz in 1996. Read more about Smif-N-Wessun here.
