Snapchat boosts hiring as it crosses the 200 million monthly active users mark

Snapchat, the popular social media app that lets users send disappearing messages and create fun filters, has achieved a major milestone in India. The company announced that it now has over 200 million monthly active users in the country, making it one of the leading global growth markets for Snap Inc.
India is a key market for Snapchat, as it has a large and young population that is eager to express themselves online. The company has been investing heavily in localizing its platform and catering to the preferences of Indian users. Some of the initiatives that have helped Snapchat grow in India include:
Launching culturally relevant content, such as Snap Originals, Shows, Games, and Bitmoji TV, that feature local celebrities and creators.
Developing a vibrant and creative local creator community, with over 120 million Indian Snapchatters watching content across Stories and Spotlight. Spotlight, Snapchat’s user-generated entertainment platform, has seen significant growth in India, with time spent on the feature more than tripling. This has empowered a new generation of creators to build audiences and monetize their content.
Introducing innovative products and features, such as My AI, a fun chatbot that can give recommendations for birthday gifts, plan trips, or find recipes for dinner. Snapchatters in India also have access to My AI.
Leveraging its core strength in augmented reality (AR), with over 85% of Snapchatters using Lenses to visually express themselves during festive months in India. Snapchat has also partnered with various brands and organizations to create immersive AR experiences, such as Flipkart, Sugar Cosmetics, MyGlamm, Sony TV, Zee TV, and Android smartphone vendors.
Snapchat’s success in India reflects its vision of being a camera company that reinvents the way people communicate and experience the world. The company has also revealed that it is expanding its team and operations across a variety of roles to better serve Indian Snapchatters.
Snapchat’s co-founder and chief executive Evan Spiegel said at a virtual event on Wednesday: “We have made significant investments to localize the Snapchat experience for the Indian community. We have added culturally relevant content, developed highly active and creative local creator communities and invested in local products, marketing initiatives and language support. Following these efforts to bring a localized experience to Indian Snapchatters, we now reach 100 million Snapchatters monthly in India. We will continue to anchor our efforts around celebrating local culture and talent, while empowering, growing and providing resources for our community of Indian creators.”
Snapchat’s growth in India is part of its global momentum, as the company recently reported that it has over 750 million monthly active users worldwide. Snapchat is also one of the most downloaded apps in the world, ranking among the top 10 apps on both iOS and Android platforms

5月20日有媒体报道,「TikTok」似乎又在越南市场开始了新一轮的HTML5(以下简称为H5)内置小游戏测试,允许主播和观众一起同台竞技。虽然之后TikTok官方又给出了模糊的表态,但对于一个头部社交平台来说,「TikTok」大概率会尝试并最终进入游戏市场,以提升用户留存。而「TikTok」此前也已经在美国等市场测试过H5游戏。
实际上,社交平台内置“随点随玩”的即时游戏(InstantGaming),已经有着相当长远的历史,但对于社交媒体来说,一直以来都是一个没有什么存在感的业务。那么为什么,从Facebook到Snapchat,再到TikTok,这些巨头都在前赴后继展开小游戏业务?就此,《灰度》特别编译《GamesIndustry》专栏《Chartingtheevolutionofsocialinstantgaming》,带领读者了解社交即时游戏的发展历史和市场格局。
在如今全世界30亿的日活跃游戏玩家中,有2/3都被认为是“休闲玩家”。我们如今对玩游戏的看法就和看电影、吃饭以及上网聊天一样轻松。因此我们也不可避免地喜欢能够轻松分享的碎片化爆款。正因如此,能够在社交平台上直接启动的带有社交属性的即点即玩游戏(SocialInstantGaming)才有其市场。
在玩家需求和习惯的推动下,包括「Facebook」、「Snapchat」和「TikTok」在内的头部社交媒体都开始建立自己的一站式娱乐平台,确保用户不必离开各自的生态系统,就能获得所有的娱乐项目。
小游戏的起源可以追溯到2000年,当时网页端动画播放工具FlashPlayer创造了一种能用来开发游戏的编程语言。由于利用Flash创作的内容不需要任何发行商,可以直接发布在任何一个网页上。因此即时游戏也因此迎来了第一个发展高峰。
2007年,Facebook为第三方厂商开启了专属游戏平台。随后第一款Flash即时社交游戏「ZyngaPoker」也被发布在了网页端。Zynga在2009年又上线了模拟经营社交游戏「Farmville」,这款游戏在玩家邀请好友加入后可以提供奖励,因此迅速走红。邀请制的成功很快被其他厂商所察觉,随后纷纷开始跻身社交游戏市场。
虽然邀请制最终由于频繁骚扰部分用户而被各大平台所限制,但这种带有社交属性的即点即玩的游戏人气却在之后一路上涨。与此同时,作为技术基础的Flash也开始显现出自身的局限性。苹果创始人史蒂夫乔布斯在2010年就认为Flash并不适合苹果旗下硬件,其中安全漏洞多和能耗过高是最主要的原因,最终Adobe在近10年后正式宣布停止对Flash的支持。

HTML5在之后成为了即时游戏的首选技术方案,其中「微信」是第一个在平台中添加H5小游戏的平台,「FacebookMessenger」则紧随其后。如今「Facebook」和「微信」在即时游戏领域还面临着「Snapchat」和「TikTok」的挑战,不过需要注意的是,几大平台的发展路线各有不同,与平台本身的服务和用户群体息息相关。
当然,几个头部平台之间也拥有一个共同点,那就是它们选择发展即时游戏的目的都是为了加强用户留存和忠诚度,同时试图提供新的体验,拓展全新的变现渠道。
不一样的平台,不一样的即时游戏
FacebookGaming,抓住千禧一代的心

简单的机制和低门槛是「Facebook」旗下即时游戏的典型特征,这是因为「Facebook」的大部分用户都来自千禧一代、X世代以及婴儿潮一代。此外吸引女性用户的即时游戏往往最受欢迎,用户可以通过消息推送向好友展示游戏进度,也能轻松地邀请朋友加入游戏。
为了进一步方便启动,「Facebook」即时游戏还可以直接在手机主屏幕上创建图标。这些力求无缝化体验的设计让「Facebook」的用户留存始终保持前列。
Snapchat,交互更重要

为了吸引平台上的Z世代和千禧一代用户,「Snapchat」的即时游戏专注于提供高质量的多人对战体验,同时也允许用户使用名为Bitmoji的虚拟头像。和「Facebook」一样,能够吸引女性用户的游戏表现最为出色。
除此之外,「Snapchat」上的即时游戏都自带短信功能,鼓励用户在和朋友一起玩游戏时展开讨论,带来全新的游戏体验。除此之外,Snap旗下著名的DynamicLensesAR特效滤镜也能帮助游戏实现进一步传播。此外各种消息推送和名为“HappeningNow”的信息推送板块则能帮助游戏提升玩家留存。
TikTok,还是病毒传播

由于绝大部分用户都来自Z世代,因此短小精悍的娱乐内容是「TikTok」的主要特色。为此「TikTok」给平台上的游戏提供了尽可能丰富的分享渠道,让游戏有机会被大范围分享和传播,进而被更多用户点击。
即便是目前还没有在「TikTok」上线即时游戏的厂商,也在逐步发掘平台本身的获客潜力,吸引更多新玩家与游戏互动。由此可以看出,尽管各大平台上即时游戏的成功都有同样的主要因素,但平台之间也融合了各具特色的内置功能,以便吸引各自的主要用户群体。
10岁多的即时游戏,生态依然没有成熟
尽管社交即时游戏的发展历史已经超过了10年,但这一市场依然在不断变化。游戏的开发技术、变现工具以及整体生态环境都还没有成熟。
以游戏厂商Gismart为例,该公司最早在网页端取得了成功,因此从2018年开始进入「Facebook」即时游戏平台,希望能够在移动端复制乃至超越之前的成绩。当时的「FacebookGaming」还是一个完全开放的系统,任何独立厂商都能直接上线游戏。
然而,过度开放的环境也导致游戏质量下降,不少内容并不适合「Facebook」的游戏也出现在了平台上。因此现在只有官方合作厂商出品的游戏能够在测试合格后上线。

和「Facebook」一样,Snap也只与发行高质量游戏的官方合作厂商,一起合作上线社交即时游戏。Snap要求平台上的游戏必须足够独特,同时还必须兼容Bitmoji虚拟形象。此外游戏还要和「Snapchat」平台风格相符,能够让玩家认为这是Snap的第一方产品。
「SnapGames」即时游戏平台会与厂商合作,共同确定游戏的大体思路和概念,同时也会参与游戏的开发过程。与此同时,官方合作厂商也能在平台上内测游戏功能,同时还能为「Snapchat」平台的未来发展提供建议。
值得注意的是,即便抛开以上限制,开发即时游戏所需要的经验储备也与一般的手机游戏有所区别。随着网络和移动技术的快速发展,开发与单独手游质量一样高的即时游戏也变成了可能。目前有许多付费和开源引擎可以用于即时游戏开发,例如PlayCanvas、ThreeJS、Cocos2D以及PixiJS。
不过,由于即时手游产业目前还缺乏类似Unity这样的头部引擎,因此厂商也需要熟悉更难以利用的WebGL和JavaScript引擎。今后类似UnityTiny等新引擎的出现可能会让即时游戏的开发更加容易,但同时也可能会导致用户端需要加载的数据量出现暴涨,这对于移动互联网来说是巨大的问题。
除了为社交平台开发全新的即时游戏外,不少厂商也在计划将现有IP移植到即时平台上。这就需要被移植的IP本身适合被“改造”,例如游戏本身必须是多人机制,同时还要依赖于能够实现大范围传播的社交功能。在这一情况下,玩家留存表现很好的超休闲游戏可能最容易获得成功,而像三消等营收高、但用户群相对固定且传播潜力较小的游戏就不太适合搬上即时平台。
由此可见,想要开发成功的社交即时游戏绝对不是一件易事。
即时游戏的变现和获客,目前还处于初级阶段
当然,开发游戏本身还是一项商业投资,这意味着变现才是社交即时游戏的重点。目前即时游戏的主要变现渠道依然以视频和插播广告为主,此外「Facebook」在近期还提供了横幅广告(BannerAd)服务。相比之下,即时游戏内购目前在iOS依然被禁止,因此只有安卓端提供这类功能,营收效果也更加有限。
相比手游,社交即时游戏的获客策略也还处于早期发展阶段。不过Snap和Facebook本身拥有先进的获客工具,因此即时游戏的获客成本要比传统手游更低。这一领域在今后还会继续发展,拓展社交即时游戏的用户群体。此外平台方也在努力提升自身生态系统内的LTV(用户终身价值)。
对于即时游戏来说,一个明显的获客优势则在于其本身不受广告标识符(IDFA)失效的影响。此前iOS和安卓平台隐私政策的升级让手游和移动App的营销和变现都变得更为困难,但即时游戏本身所处的就是单一的生态环境,因此厂商可以轻松调用各类用户数据,从而了解游戏的市场表现。
此外,「FacebookGaming」还开发了名为Crossplay的多平台同步功能,该功能可以让厂商直接将即时游戏用户引导至独立App上,同时保留全部游戏进度。Snap则开放了QR扫码功能,让用户可以直接订阅游戏厂商的官方页面,同时Snap还在开发多平台社群功能,以进一步加强游戏的玩家留存表现。
那么社交即时游戏的成功会对App商店产生影响吗?实际上这两种体系之间很难形成直接竞争关系。即时游戏的成功更可能会促使Google和苹果推出自己的即时服务。实际上Google已经准备名为InstantPlay的类似功能,让用户不需安装就能启动一系列小游戏。在未来几年中,苹果和Google还可能会上线更为先进的即时游戏服务,以及更加完善的变现功能。
「TikTok」之后,哪些平台还会拥抱即时游戏?
鉴于游戏是最受欢迎的娱乐形式之一,许多头部App平台也将挖掘即时游戏的潜力,增强用户留存。视频通话App「Zoom」很有可能会通过各种即时派对游戏加强使用体验,而「Tinder」等交友平台已经开始尝试利用即时游戏和互动短剧作为用户间“破冰”的第一步。
现有的社交平台也会不断丰富游戏品类,目前「Facebook」和「TikTok」都和日本游戏厂商Playco签订了合作协议,这两家平台可能会效仿此前「Netflix」游戏订阅服务的路线,上线更多独家游戏内容。
实际上,Snap已经收购了多家游戏厂商,为平台专门制作即时游戏。今后各大平台很可能也会进一步加强与厂商间的合作关系,带来各类独家体验。即便对于中小厂商而言,即时游戏的发展也会进一步扩大增长潜力。今后即时游戏平台的上线门槛会不断降低,营销和变现工具也会进一步完善,因此社交即时游戏市场将继续不断发展,在手游产业中留下深远的影响。

Oferecendo jogos fáceis, o Leaderboard Games foram idealizados para complementar os jogos multiplayer em tempo real já disponíveis no Snap Games, se destacando pela nova opção que permite a realização de partidas usando como base uma tabela de classificação. Com isso, se torna desnecessário a conexão simultânea de ambos os jogadores.
Outro ponto interessante é que este oferece o recurso chamado Score Streaming, que mostra os resultados ao vivo durante a partida.
