~He's a stupid idiot spaghetti noodle who thinks he hates affection. So much to where he brushes it off entirely. But the moment you leave, he's left wondering:

"What the peck was THAT?"

~It's no surprise that Snatcher hasn't felt happy about another person's touch in ages. The last person who attempted to touch him out of curiosity ended up with their head missing. Somewhere. The body's still walking around. No one knows how that works.

~...But he felt somewhat happy about your touch. You managed to get yourself a front row seat (his lap) to a book of HIS CHOICE ONLY (...your favorite book. He agreed to read your favorite book to you.), and in doing so, you also managed to bury your hands forearm-deep into his messy fluff when you were distracted during his reading session.

~His fluff is the type of soft where it feels like it's hardly even there and you have to keep petting to feel it. It's ghostly, smooth, somehow slightly rubbery at the same time if you're just petting the surface, and if you squint, you can even see your own hands through it (ghost logic).

~Snatcher stopped reading for a moment. Like a feral cat that had just felt soft human touch for the first time, he muttered something incoherent under his breath, before realizing what exactly was happening.

He snatched your hands away.

"HEY! HELLO! TOUCHING WITHOUT ASKING! THAT'S RUDE, AND- ALRIGHT, READING TIME IS OVER. SCRAM!"

Suddenly, you had been picked up by the back of your shirt and placed onto the ground. You went home as he had demanded, since you couldn't hang around in Subcon without him (that would be boring). Whoops.

~But then he started overthinking it. When was the last time someone touched him gently the way you did? He couldn't recall. Then he got angry at his own fuzzy feelings and ignored you for a bit.

~But not for long. Later, he approached you from behind and gave you a surprise noogie. Aggressively messing up your hair from behind.

"SEE? NOT SO FUN, NOW IS IT?!" He cackled.

You laughed.

Snatcher's hand dropped. You laughed harder at his disbelief. Then, you lifted your hands and approached him. He snorted.

"WHAT? YOU LOOK RIDICULOUS. PUT THOSE DOWN!" He protested as though he were a living human being approached with a knife. Over dramatic fool. How easy it would've been for Snatcher to shove you away, fly away, or straight up poof out of the area- but no. He stayed. Cornered up against a tree by his lover, who was half his size, or even smaller.

He complained all day, but didn't stop you from loving on him for hours.

~After that, Snatcher was much more open with affection. Sometimes he'd even initiate it! Not that he didn't still grumble about it. Something about "keeping up his fear factor".

~He melts inside when you touch him.

Snatcher x Reader

He loved you, no matter what form you took. Of course, he thought your shadow form was beautiful, but he also enjoyed your human form. Either way, he was glad that he had a partner that could relate to him a bit. He didn’t tell you this, not for a long time. But when he did, it was heartwarming.

“You know I don’t really care what you look like, don’t you? You’re still legally my partner, so who cares? BAHAHA!”

He did give you a contract when he first started to “court” you, as he puts it. It was a joke, but if you happened to take it seriously he was overjoyed.

“You- I didn’t expect you to sign it that quickly… dedicated, are we?”

When he saw your shadow form for the first time, he was very surprised. He didn’t show it, but he was flabbergasted. After that, he decided that you were perfect to rule the forest with him. He let you know the next day.

“I’ve been thinking, this forest can get a bit chaotic with only one ruler to look after it. So, I need someone else to rule alongside me! What do you say?”

Let's start of with how he became so... Touchy. It's been so long since Snatcher ever felt anything aside from hatred, malice, and pain.

How could he? He lived in the place that is a permanent reminder of his mistake marrying that wench of a woman that called herself a princess...

Snatcher only stays because he's forced to, for his own stubborn pride and the lost souls of his people. And because of this... He hates to admit it but he craves touch, a bond that goes beyond the "friendship" that damned Hat kid made him go through!

He's a ghost, a slithering soul who steals others to make himself feel better than the broken husk of a man he once was... And how he craves to use his hands to hold, not to hurt. As crazy as that sounds now leaving his mouth.

But after you came along... Everything changed for the better for him, you, and his little minions! I mean... He finally gets his wish doesn't he, and more when Snatcher thinks back on your guys relationship!

You mostly came around to his neck of the woods after Hat kid beat up his ghosty ass, so not only was Snatcher pouty, sulking, angry, and currently not taking anyone's soul for fear of getting beat once again. So that's why when you feel in his trap, he spared you quickly with a huff.

But you... You stayed. Mostly because you didn't think he was that threatening to begin with. Maybe it's because he was in a horrid state at the time, but he secretly appreciated it deep down, maybe Hat Kid got him soft, maybe it's his ache for touch, but he knows his minions wouldn't shut up when they caught him blushing after you left for the third time.

And when you started to get closer, closer. Close enough to touch him emotionally, mentally, and physically. He fell, HARD.

He was wrapped all around your finger, like the little snake-like ghost he is. Snatcher literally and figuratively. He was so desperate for your touch and attention that he forced himself to leave Subcon forest just to demand some form of physical contact from you. STAT!

Snatcher sucking it all up like a cat. A big, noodle-like cat, he's coiling and wrapping himself around you, holding you like delicate fine china. Something delicate to treasure, because to him, you are.

The worst he's done is actually try and get you to be in a contract with him, at least for the day. He's been touch starved for YEARS, Snatcher can get easily jealous, and also really clingy.

But you still love him the same, you still pamper, kiss, touch and hold him close like he's craved for years... Letting him hold you for hours, days, even years if you'd let him, Oh please... Just a little bit longer... A little bit longer to hold you.

Snatistical Evaluation

I was really surprised to see Snatcher x Reader lose Round 1—when I seeded the bracket, I put it up against Conductor Divorce (which was a joke option I added to round out the poll) as a gimme. The round was designed this way because, as Conductor's Divorce isn't actually a pairing, it would just be giving me a ballpark for how many people actually liked x Reader.

Granted, the AHiT tag on Ao3 isn't that populated to begin with, but Snatcher x Reader is the only romantic pairing other than DiscoTrain to even appear in the Top 10 relationship tags.

It wasn't like the poll simply failed to reach people who like x Reader content, either; I recognized a few names in the notes from the tag reblogging it, and x Reader accounts tend to heavily interact with other x Reader accounts. It didn't make sense to me that so few people voted for it, but towards the end of the polling period, I had an idea for what might have been skewing the results.

So, I made a spreadsheet to test my theory.

I went through the entire Snatcher/Reader tag, noted down every single author's username, and added a counter every time I encountered another upload by them.

(Interestingly, while I went through the entire tag at least three times to double-check I hadn't missed any, the total only added up to 72. It only just occurred to me that the missing four might be hidden from users who don't have an account, which I forgot was a site feature. Oops. Anyway, they aren't taken into consideration for this analysis.)

Here are our results.

Of 72 total uploads:

Six (6) were from anonymous/orphan accounts. Although one or more of these could have been written by the same user, for our purposes, I'll consider them non-recurring.

Twenty-one (21) were from unique authors, "unique" meaning that the user only had a single upload in the tag on their account. Counting the anon/orphan uploads, that's 27 from non-recurring users.

Forty-five (45) were from recurring authors, "recurring" meaning that the user had two or more uploads in the tag on their account. There were eight (8) recurring authors in total, but of those eight, three of them had two and two of them had three, making for twelve (12) uploads from five (5) recurring users.

Then there were....a few names that cropped up again. And again. And again.

4. Thirty-three (33) uploads were from the same three accounts.

Here's the same data represented by percentage.

62.5% of individual fanworks in the tag are from accounts who have posted more than one, while 37.5% are anonymous or from accounts which have posted exactly one.

The top three posters make up the highest percent of any category. Not only do they outnumber the rest of the recurring authors, but three users have created 45.8% of the content in the tag, more than all of the unique uploaders combined.

I expected going in that the number of total works might be inflated by the same users uploading many, but I couldn't have guessed the results would be this extreme.

Verdict: Snatcher x Reader is not actually that popular of a pairing. The people who like it just really like it.

Messing with the wrong kind of snake part 1 (sorry tumblr you aren't getting part 2 when its done that's for the real freaks who know me)

It had been approximately 5 months since you landed in Subcon.. or at least you think it had been, the flow of time in Subcon seemed to act differently from the rest of the world as if it were interrupted by something but alas that was none of your concern as you unfortunately had plenty of chores to get done… but at least the spirits had started to warm up to you and the one known as The Snatcher who took your soul and put you under contract had started giving you little "rewards" whenever you finished his tasks usually in the form of small gifts but this time a small kiss on the forehead, perhaps he was growing a little attached? but as far as you knew it was still "supposed" to be a working relationship and you were still just his "errand boy" or rather "mail delivery boy" as his latest contract was to deliver a letter down into the sewers to a "friend" of his which sounded easy enough but when you went down into the sewers you still had his smell on you from that little forehead kiss.. BIG MISTAKE

"Snaaaatcher" you called out as you stomped up the vine that wrapped around snatcher's house

"I've finished delivering all the mail to your minions"

you cautiously looked down at the forest's treeline to make sure nothing from deeper in the woods had followed you before climbing into the brightly lit treehouse

"Snaaaatcher?" you call out one last time "he doesn't seem to be home… maybe he's out hunting?"

you feel the air behind you chill for a moment and a breeze brush past you causing you to turn around..

"nothing there..? whew"

wiping sweat off your forehead you turn back towards the back of the treehouse only to be scared off your feet by a familiar shadowy figure only illuminated by pair bright yellow eyes and a smile like a jack-o-lantern

"BOO!~"

"EEeek" you squeal as you fall to the hard wooden floor backing up against the wall before realizing

"oh.. its.. just you"

you come to your feet leaning against a chair as you were still quite shaken up by snatcher's sudden entrance

"do you really need to do this everytime I finish one of your contracts… snatcher?"

the purple spirit gave you a side eye and grinned smugly before exclaiming

"well of course I have to~ didn't you know scaring that little soul of yours enough to make it fly out of your body was part of the deal? somebody should have read the fine print~"

snatcher sat on the couch loosely positioning his tail around the side of your legs

"now have you finished that little contract of yours already?~ let me have a look"

as you pull out the completed contract he uses his tail to push you a little closer to him before swiftly snatching it out of your hands and looking over everything

"WELL DONE~ I'm quite curious on how you managed to deliver mail to every single one of my minions in less then ten minutes but I'm guessing it had something to do with getting covered head to toe in mud?"

snatcher chuckles at your condition

"if I wasn't smart I would have thought you were one of my own.. now I think you deserve a little reward for completing your contract so efficiently"

your eyes widen and you feel your face warm as you tried to think about what he could possibly mean by this you feel snatchers arms wrap around you waist as he picked you up and placed you comfortably on his lap

"snatcher.. what are you-"

you are quickly interrupted by snatcher snapping his fingers and magically clearing all the mud off your clothes before giving you a big kiss on the forehead

"i think that will do for now~"

he ruffles your hair and gives you a pat on the head before picking you up and bringing you back to your feet once more

"it seems I've neglected to give you the full details of your previous contract…I actually have one more letter for you to give to lets just say a friend of mine.. however they live deep in the subcon sewers so….I hope you have a spare change of clothes lying around somewhere"

snatcher snapped his clawed fingers once more causing one of his oh so familiar contracts to appear directly in front of you, the paper was fresh and warm to the touch as usual though there was something strange about this one… usually snatcher has pictures attached relating to the task but for some reason this contract seemed to lack that.. was he hiding something?

"i think you know the deal by now dear just sign with your name right at the bottom here"

he gestures to the line at the bottom of the paper and before you even notice, a purple feather dripped in jet black ink appears between your fingers, you try not to think too much about the details or rather the lack of details this contract has and signed the paper like you always do, snatcher then hands you a letter written in cursive

"hey snatcher what's this scratched out at the-"

"oh nothing for you to worry about"

snatcher quickly snatches the letter back out of your hand and places it neatly in an envelope and sealing it with some kind of magic before handing it back to you

"this isn't for you" he said with a growl and a blank expression on his face

"now then how about you get back to work.. I have some errands of my own that need to get done and they wont run themselves~"

snatcher gently guides you out the front of his house and points in the direction of subcon village

"you've probably already been there before just in case… the entrance to the sewers is down that little ravine that you would usually cross to get to my alchemy station, impossible to miss but if I were you I would watch your step on the way down~"

you turn to him with a confused and concerned look in your eyes

"but snatcher… one thing, how am I supposed to get back up? the last time I checked there wasn't a way back up… or was there? I don't quite remember how I got out last time I was down there"

"oh don't you worry your little head about it~ I had recently sent some of my MOST competent minions down to construct a latter, it should be safe … now then get back to work~"

you stare into the trees feeling the cold air surround you as you walk out out of snatcher's treehouse

"well guess I have a job to do I should get going now"

Snatcher x Reader

At first, Snatcher thought the whole idea was stupid. When you showed him what a carved pumpkin is supposed to look like, he thought it was supposed to be mocking him. You had to reassure him that carving pumpkins wasn’t to make fun of his silly Jack-o’-lantern face.

“What do you mean, of course it’s- …really? THAT’S the whole point? Fine! If it’ll get you to quit asking!

He liked the idea of getting to stab things and make things look spooky, considering the fact that being scary is one of the main aspects of his forest. He didn’t want to admit that he was enjoying it, but you’d notice that his grin was a little wider when he was cutting out one of the eyes.

“What, no! Of course I’m not enjoying this, I’ve got more important things to do. I’m just getting this out of the way.”

When you were done, you put your pumpkins in front of his armchair, and he wasn’t bothered by it. Until they started to rot, then he probably told you to deal with it, because the only thing he could think of was throwing them at Vanessa’s house.

“Here, come get these before they get chucked at that old hag’s window. HAHAHA!”
