WHG 15 Post-Games Imposter Syndrome Part 20

I woke up early because I actually had a chance to find my friends and escape with everyone. The Capitol had told us to find the “escaped tributes”, and it was the best time I could think of to try and escape with everyone. It wasn’t the most ideal plan, but it would work in a pinch.

Of course, just as I thought that, the door to my room opened, and Churi stepped in with the most annoying smile on his face. He bowed slightly. “It seems you’re eager to go capture your friends.”

I automatically shot him my middle finger as I also gave him a sweet smile. “You should be happy with how obedient I’ve been.”

His eyes darkened, and he stomped over to me, grabbing me by my shirt collar. “You’re planning something, aren’t you, girl? You’ve been a thorn in my side since you’ve shown up. You won’t be obedient now.”

I laughed. “What do you want from me? I’ll search for the tributes you’ve hidden from me.” Possibly. Maybe they really had escaped.

He hissed. “I want you broken. And you’re not broken yet.” I just smiled at him, and he paused, looking thoughtful. “It makes me wonder what will make you broken. It seems effective to use your friends against you. But it’s not enough.”

He let go of my collar and started pacing. He was muttering, as if to himself. “But what to do then? What else can we use to make sure you’re obedient? Your crew is already shattered to pieces. And your tribute friends are already being used against you. Ah. I know.” He glanced up at me with a wicked smile, and I glared at him. He knew exactly what he was doing.

He disappeared into some kind of smoke (yeah, didn’t I tell you that the Shades were shapeshifters?), and when he reappeared, he had the appearance of…my mom.

I stared at him as he laughed. In her voice, or what I assumed was her voice, he spoke. “My dear child, I wish you had never been born.” I stiffened. It just hit so much harder when it looked and sounded like her. “You caused me so much grief and pain. It wasn’t worth it.” He/she—it was hard to differentiate anymore—walked up to me and caressed my face. “You’re not my daughter. I do not claim you. You will never belong anywhere. So, just do as the Capitol says, and you won’t cause me any more trouble.”

I hated how my voice wavered. “You’re not her. Show me your real face, you ass.”

He did not change. “Oh, I know exactly how she thinks. And she wishes she never had a mistake of a daughter and the pain that came with that. You never should have been born. No one wants you or cares about you.”

I glared at him. That…that couldn’t be true. “Fine. I’ll be obedient. Happy?” Not meaning any word.

He hissed and actually changed back to his normal form. “I don’t believe you. And I will not let you leave until you have convinced me.”

I clenched my jaw. “What do you want me to do? Beg on my knees? Your expectations are too high. I will not give you the satisfaction.”

“Oh, you will. Don’t worry about that.” He snarled and reached toward me, as if he was going to wrap a hand around my neck, and I flinched, but the door opened. And Conor stood on the other side. Shit.

“Now now, is that any way to treat an honored guest?” He leaned against the doorframe, studying his nails and looking bored, but I could hear something dark in his voice. “Or were you planning on catching my attention?” His eyes flicked up to Churi.

This was probably the first time that I saw Churi looking scared. He opened his mouth a couple times before he slunk away. Good riddance.

But now I had to deal with this jerk. I just stayed quiet and kept getting ready. I didn’t trust my voice.

Bystander watched Churi go and turned back to me with a dramatic sigh. “And here I was hoping for a fun round of banter to be the highlight of my day. Tell me, did he say anything intelligent, or was it all threats?”

I didn’t look at him. “I apologize. I won’t be much for banter either. I need to go do as the Capitol requires of me.”

He raised an eyebrow. “Oh? An adventure? I’ll accompany you. After all, I’m curious about an event they failed to inform me of today when I asked if you were free.”

Really? He would just go with me? That wasn’t ideal, but I would think there would be more resistance. I forced myself to smile brightly over at him. “Of course! It’s just a boring adventure, but you may accompany me.”

“Wonderful, so where are we going then?” He didn’t move.

“Hell if I know. The Capitol told me to search for the ‘escaped tributes’ without any direction.” Even though I had no idea what the truth was anymore.

“And here I thought you said they told you that no tributes had escaped because they were all caught?”

And that was why I didn’t know what to believe anymore. “They’re saying that this is a test of my loyalty, and if I don’t do as I’m told, they’ll just kill them.”

He laughed. “Oh the tried and true lie. If that was the case, why not just kill them to begin with? It’s not as if they don’t have quite the history of randomly offing those they dislike. Honestly, do try better than that when crafting a lie. I wonder if it’s as sour or bitter on the tongue as it is to hear.”

That old shit again. But he still hadn’t moved, and he was trying to get me to talk. I nodded. “Right. So, I should probably get going.”

“And where exactly are we starting this search?” He was standing in such a way that I couldn’t get around him without getting too close. Of course.

“They’d probably hide them in plain sight. An out of the way apartment perhaps?”

“Hmm. And tell me, what are you hoping will happen if you find them? Surely you know you’re being watched carefully while here right? If they’re under the Capitol’s control as you so adamantly believe,” he rolled his eyes at that, “they would be as well, perhaps more or less overtly. And what happens when the first whispers of escape are spoken? Maybe not death, at least not right away, but I doubt the Capitol will be happy if they make another attempt, already being in such a precarious position. And then of course, there’s my…claim, which you have spurned up until this point, but say I am right, and you seek them out, who would you be leading to their door?”

I bristled and crossed my arms. “You think I can’t handle some Peacekeepers? And that I don’t know how to hide people?”

“Yet you believe yourself the reason your friends were captured. And tell me, do you truly believe that only Peacekeepers are watching you given the attentions you’ve drawn? You’re still on their turf, and you’re not the only one who was hiding something.”

Shit. I knew I was incompetent. I knew I wasn’t good enough. But I had to do this. It could be my only chance. I gritted my teeth. “And who the hell cares? I’ll do whatever it takes to make up for my mistakes. So, you can fuck off.”

He raised his hands in a placating manner. “Apologies, there were concerns over how your own doubt would affect you, yet you are determined, so clearly you have a solid plan that’s already taken into account the various situations. Still, I have a tendency to wonder after Raindrop’s safety in these matters, and anymore undo attention towards her, well, she’s not as quick with her words as…Nevertheless, that is none of your concern of course, your own safety should be considered, though I doubt you’ve given it much thought considering how we’ve ended up here.”

I tried to shove past him, but it was enough that I couldn’t get around easily. Shit. And now, he had to mention all that. My breath caught, and tears formed in my eyes. Reine. And how my plans were always so flimsy. I was putting them all in danger, wasn’t I? But there wasn’t a better way. “It—it doesn’t matter what happens to me. As long as they can be safe. The Capitol will know it was all my idea. So, it’s all my fault. No one else’s if it fails. They have no idea what I’m planning.” At least that would be what I told the Capitol if I got caught.

He actually sounded concerned when he spoke again, softly. “Even if they know or believed it was entirely your plan and idea, do you really think that would protect the others from the Capitol? From the Shades?” He moved closer, as if to comfort me, but he stopped short. “These people are cruel, Pirate. Triel, the very nature of the Games meant almost none of you were supposed to live, do you really think they’d show mercy or sympathy over something so trivial as leaders and roles?”

Shit. I hated how my voice wavered and tears spilled from my eyes. He was right, damn it, he was right. “I’ll distract them long enough for the others to escape. I—I can.”

“You’d have to convince the others to actually leave you behind to do that, and if none of my others, trust these words when I say that would be neigh impossible in at least one case, if not more. And that’s not even minding the all encompassing guilt that a few of them might face at that very prospect of you being left behind. Survivor’s guilt is…very loud and strong. That can do things to a person, brings a very bleak darkness into the mind that runs wild. Even if everything else succeeded, they’d still be held captive and tormented by that thought of what if and should’ve.” He was staring at me, pinning me down. Shit. I felt so small.

So, I was useless. Just useless. But…but I had to try. It was better than doing nothing. I started sobbing, both out of frustration and hopelessness. “Then what the hell am I supposed to do? There’s no foolproof plan, so it’s better to decide to put it all on me than anyone else. I…I don’t have any other options.” I tried to push past him again, but it still didn’t work.

He raised an eyebrow. “Don’t you? Have you really exhausted every option, or are you trying to take the first visible route without waiting for a better opportunity? Of course, you have no reason to trust my words, and I doubt you would take my advice. But you must recognize that slipping away in the middle of the night, the Capitol or the Shades will hunt the lot of you, especially since they didn’t let you die the first opportunity they had with the Games. Do you want to be living constantly running, always looking back over your shoulder, do you want the others to be? Constantly worrying that something will force them back into Churi’s path again when he’s looking for them? Or do you want them to think you’re far beyond their reach already in a way they wouldn’t bother looking—and would probably upset them after all those lengths to get you. Like being dead, or making them think you are.”

I sniffled as the tears dried up. I actually had a plan for that. “I have a plan for that. We won’t be constantly running.” That anti-Capitol mansion was still there. And I had paid for it.

“Really? You continue to amaze me, little thief.” He smiled a little, but that dropped fast. “Yet can you be sure you won’t still be hunted? Even if you don’t have to be running, could you avoid the fear of being found out without being trapped? Because that would be most impressive indeed. Maybe you have thought of everything then?”

No, I didn’t. Everything I thought up was bad and junk, but was there any other option? Would the Capitol give me another chance like this? I had to do this. And he was still in my way. I sighed. “I’m not that perfect, but I don’t give a fuck.” I activated my magic, and the water from my tears crystallized into tiny daggers that pressed against his neck. “Get the hell out of my way.”

He cocked an eyebrow and smirked at me. Shit. “You know, I almost consider this flirting, though I will admit, it is a new form of knife this time. I will give you that.” He ran a hand over one so that he cut his finger on it. “So you kill me here, presuming you actually succeed in that, and you’re far from the first, guarantee you won’t be the last, you’ve met me after all, and what? You’ve made guesses as to my importance I’m sure, did you by chance notice Churi’s reaction earlier to me?” His finger was healing. What the fuck?

I couldn’t actually do it. No matter how much I wanted to. I deactivated my magic, only after I let one of them cut his neck shallowly. They fell down at our feet. I sat down on the bed. I just needed to get rid of him as quickly as possible. I smiled. “So, what were you wanting to do, then? Since you so obviously don’t want me to leave.”

He swiped over the cut, and it was healed right away. Shit. He looked back up and smirked at me. “As petty as that was, I appreciate the flair of it. And on the contrary, I am more than willing to leave with you, I just hoped you would avoid such a foolhardy plan with such risks when other plans are available, ones you're surely smart enough to find if you look.”

“And what if you’re wrong and there aren’t any other paths? The Capitol might not give another opportunity like this.”

“The Capitol will lay plenty a trap for you to try and escape so they can tighten their leash with an excuse, don’t worry.” He nodded towards the cameras, whose microphones I had disabled so they couldn’t hear what I said in my room. “Besides, have you even taken the time yet to understand what all your other captives are doing here with you yet? Maybe they have other paths available that you have yet to be able to consider. And of course, there’s me,” he turned more towards me and spread his arms. “Though I doubt you’d utilize that particular option at any point.”

I smiled more. “And why the hell would I? The only good you’ll be for me is a pretty face.” I sighed and sat back. “But if that’s all you’re here to tell me, you can go ahead and leave.”

“A miracle, clearly I’ve affected you to some extent to get you to admit I’m pretty. And why should I leave you when I know full well the danger you would be putting others in, and while I tend to thrive off of that, I wasn’t lying about my protective streak towards Reine, and yes maybe there is some selfishness in not wanting your Churi to get hands on one of the few things that could cause genuine pain towards me or her, she’s suffered enough and could use a break before she well, breaks. As have your friends from the looks of them when they arrived. Nesri’s leg and the headache of her being reckless while bedridden and exposing them is almost as tiresome as your own current plan. Though I suppose your clever friend and their gadgets do make up for it a bit, sharp minds are always so intriguing.” He tapped his chin and looked over at me.

I stiffened. Shine…Shine…They were…dead. How could he dare to talk about them? And it sounded like he probably knew where they were, so he could take them away or do something else to them. Shit. I sucked in a breath and stood up. “Don’t talk about…about Shine.” I swallowed hard as tears threatened to choke me again. “Fine. I won’t go anywhere. I won’t do anything stupid. You won.”

He looked over me. “You didn’t know. Which would explain why you’d more willingly go along with the other demands of the Capitol. The pieces seem to finally all fit now in that puzzle then, how cruel.”

What the shit was he talking about? I looked away from him, clenching my fists. “What? No gloating? I said you won.”

“Not yet, no. Nevertheless, it will do for now, and you should rest.”

Rest? I glared at him, and he nodded and left. Just like that. I looked away from the door as I started sobbing again. I was trapped. And I couldn’t see a way to help anyone else.

magnus is this notorious pirate famous in the caribbean with everyone talking about him because of how successful he is. his quartermaster is definitely raphael (his care for his clan and how he cares for others solidifies this thought process) and their ship has some corny name that raphael pretends to hate but definitely loves. europe thinks that magnus and his crew are demons(racists fucks) meanwhile theyre out here being nerds who enjoys navigating the seas and ruining racists job prospects+

+cat and ragnor live on nassau with magnus bringing back supplies they sell(we love the blackmarket here). the lightwoods are brought into this world bc their parents send them off to nassau to try and expand the family's business and gain profit off of this lawless place which refuses to be governed by anyone. malec meets at like the local inn where maia works at also where izzy meets her and by association The Polycule)and is just attracted to each other right then and there with bad flirting. once they become settled in, alec and izzy becomes like disillusioned with following what their parents expect of them and start to actually do what they wish. because he's dramatic, alec probably asks ragnor who settled down from pirating for more lessons in sword fighting (hes not unexperienced but theres a difference from fighting on land and on water)

eventually magnus hears about this cue them dramatically learning how to fight on like this cliff top with their swords connecting (we love euphemisms for sex) and them bonding over magnus' book collection he has and them no longer doing what their parents expect of them (im imagining asmodeus as this well traveled trader or something who only cares about money rather than having humanity) and even though magnus is this pirate which is a profession that the "civilized world" looks down on, he's like the epitome of actually having morals and caring about people (pirates were known to drastically impact the slave trade as they often freed slaves and let them join their crew or they worked directly with maroons and indigenous people). 

i imagine their first kiss to be when theyre training and someone has a sword pressed against the others neck because theyre horny bastards and they accept only the dramatics. their proposal/matelot is potc levels of dramatic with them fighting an enemy crew alongside The Polycule(the most badass and queer crew out there) and like halfway through alec is just like marry me and then next thing they know it raphael is officiating their marriage around dead people before they go on to have a better and more planned out wedding on shore (had to get some of this out now before i went too deep, The Poycule is definitely something i paid attention to most considering how big and complex the group is)

ugh not to add to an already huge post but

you are totally right about raphael being his quartermaster! raphael is a great leader and he cares so much for his people and he is one of the few people magnus obviously trusts, even as they have their differences. only other person i could imagine as magnus' quartermaster would be cat but like! raphael is perfect for the job! also i love the idea that he pretends to hate the corny name, he has to pretend to hate magnus' puns and jokes on principle but really he loves it

also "meanwhile they are all nerds" accurate, the whole ship is just a whole mess of people having fun and being family we love that for them

and ok not to slut for the polycule but i'm slutting for the polycule i just. aaa want to know so much more about them. i know you said they were already with maia but idk i can see many of them being part of magnus' crew? especially meliorn and tbh clary lmao she seems the type who would love adventure like that (i'm going with fanon clary here mostly) and i can see simon in both but i can also definitely see simon being in the inn with maia (god i have a half baked au that includes that) because being in the sea all day? no thank you. and they are just this nice local couple that helps all the pirates because fuck the racist law

also it's hilarious because they are so warm and welcoming and the lightwoods get there and simon is like "oh-oh. incoming" and maia is all like "what the fUCK do you want"

which lowkey backfires because izzy is just like "oh she's so fierce, i love her" and is already like, halfway in love doing the head tilt and huge grin thing (she's not creepy about it, just like, she likes it, you know? especially because in this AU izzy was raised as a Rich Girl so she's expected to be all that fragile useless white woman ideal and yada yada and she's not here for that so she's attracted to the idea of women like clary and maia)

and just like ghhgggghhh not to slut but i love the idea that they are in the inn and meliorn raphael and possibly clary are always in the sea so like! sweet reunions! not that they are usually going super far lmao mostly just stopping the slave trade and protecting the caribbean and shit, but that's a few months in between visits and i picture that at some point when they are getting to nassau raphael is just like, vibrating (you know, as much as he allows himself to) and magnus just smiles knowingly, happy that his boy has found people he's so happy with

and raphael getting into the inn and being like "simon! maia!" and simon and maia being like "raphael! meliorn!" and just crashing into this big group hug and it's all laughs and meliorn twirls maia and she giggles and simon kisses raphael's cheek and is all worried about them both (plus clary) because god what the fuck kind of shit did they get into this time, are they hurt? if he's broken another leg he's gonna- and raphael laughs and says "no, cariño, i promise all i have with me are gifts" because he's not gonna travel the caribbean and not bring stuff for his partners. so it's him and meliorn showering maia and simon in gifts and pretty and maybe stolen things (maia in particular takes such great joy in learning that her pretty new bracelet belonged to some racist bitch) like spoils you know? lmao, and looking at them it's like they haven't seen each other in years or something but no it's been like a month and it's always like that

and alec and izzy are just watching that, mouths slack, shocked, but highkey yearning for something as free as that, that loving family and that open love and meliorn's genderfuckery and just everything about them! and alec "conceal don't feel" lightwood is kind of frowning and goes "are they always like that?" to which magnus, behind him, answers "yes" and then he turns around and they stare at each other and magnus quickly goes from "happy for my boys" to "hello tall person" in a matter of seconds and is suddenly all seductive and flirty and alec is having the time of his life? especially since here away from the lightwoods he can allow himself just a little bit, and letting a guy flirt with him can't hurt, right? he knows izzy won't tell their parents. so he engages

cue terribly bad flirting, izzy smiling widely as she watches the polycule dynamics, highkey wanting something like that for herself, especially seeing the way that clary talks to maia all like "look at this SWORD" and all the adventures. and maia still doesn't trust her but apparently magnus has already hit it off with her brother so what the hell, they might as well stay

and just!! yes getting to know each other shenanigans. i picture that like the army gets there and tries to get magnus and his crew and alec and izzy are like running to them to warn them (alec not knowing quite why, he shouldn't be taking that big of a risk, he shouldn't be getting attached to a pirate - of whom he's only heard terrible things so far, thinks they are Evil basically - just because something about him is alluring and represents the freedom he doesn't allow himself to want, but... he is getting attached) and the whole gang is all like *very calmly heading to the secret hideout in their room* oh don't worry about that lmao they do this every week

and idk i just want a moment where they are almost found and alec and izzy lowkey save their ass (i mean they would have managed but they make it easier, maybe use the Privilege Card lmao). maybe the guards were closer than they thought so alec ends up just shoving magnus into the hideout and when the guards come in he's all like "WHO is interrupting our sleep" and acts like an entitled brat and they don't even search the room lmao and then alec runs to the hideout all "sorry that i pushed you, are you okay?" and magnus is all like "i'm fine" but a little touched about the care. just to establish that trust, you know? both between them and between izzy and the rest of the polycule

so after that it all kind of flows smoothly because they know they can genuinely trust the lightwoods and so it grows into something more. magnus and alec can bond over having Terrible Parents With Terrible Morals and they open up about their respective traumas with abuse, and alec confesses to magnus for the first time ever that he doesn't want to be like his parents, that he thought if maybe he earned their respect, he could change things from the inside. and magnus looks at him all soft and touched and is like "there's no changing things from the inside" and alec is like "i'm starting to realize that" you know

and yeah alec gets to see how much that crew cares for each other, way more than his "traditional family" ever could (except for him and izzy who are just as devoted to each other as the crew is, but like, it's honestly less the "blood relations" and more how they've always been there for each other as they handled their parents' shittiness) and again he's just yearning because he always believed he wouldn't get something like that. and magnus in particular is just so caring and just wants to make the world a better place, you know? and he admires that and they bond over that, too

and just jdhdaodshad god i love this. and meanwhile izzy is flirting with maia clary and meliorn like crazy and soon they are like this huge messy group with all those dynamics... and i just aaa and alec and izzy end up joining the crew and daiodsaiodjsaio RAPHAEL OFFICIATING THEIR WEDDING i'm genuinely all for that fucking shit, magnus wants his boy to do it for them and aaaaa! also i DEMAND raphael&meliorn fighting sequences because i bet they would make a bomb ass duo fighting back to back and shit, you know? bonus points if they are defending simon and maia who are behind them and just making sure no one touches them?? i live for this shit 

in short i love this and you said “get some out of your chest" so if there's more, then fuck, i can't wait to see it dahsdaijas i'm sorry for talking so much i get too excited

100 Reasons to Love Vivia Nihar

Inspired by @wrongshatteredrealms and their post about 100 reasons why Destin Karn is their favorite character from Shattered Realms.  This post took a while to make, but Vivia really deserves it.  It’s quite long, I warn you.

1. She loves her country even after everything the people in it put her through

2. She is a feminist icon

3. Her nickname is “Little Fox” and that’s just adorable

4. She’s so strong in spite of her mental health issues

5. Her mother committed suicide and she still manages to go past the place where it happened all the time without breaking down each time

6. She just cares about Stix so much and would die for her

7. When she realized just how much Serafin has been manipulating her, she tried her best to do something about it

8. She is a pirate princess who also happens to be a lesbian, and honestly you can’t get any cooler than that

9. “Do I look like I care about plums?”

10. “Now would be the right time for the gardener to complain about his plum trees”

11. She has that habit of patting the sides of her face like she’s checking to make sure her mask is in place

12. She calls Merik “Merry” and it makes me laugh every time

13. She’s the Chosen Daughter of the VOID WELL, which nobody thought existed

14. The lack of patience she has with the vizers is amusing, but she takes it to an art form with Serrit Linday and it’s priceless

15. Her annoyed internal monologue about how it seems like five thousand servants have stopped to talk to her, interrupted only by another servant coming to talk to her before she mentally changes the count to five thousand and one

16. All the pining for Stix in her POV chapters with the constant repetition of “Too good for me”

17. When she saves Merik’s life by showing up out of nowhere and cutting off Garren’s head

18. When, upon cutting off Garren’s head, she gloats by saying “Come back from that”

19. Even when Merik constantly misgenders Cam in Windwitch, Vivia still has a hard time believing he’s a girl

20. Later in Bloodwitch when Cam is introduced as a boy, Vivia immediately believes it (Merik, take lessons from your sister)

21. Her own brother thinks she’s intimidating and trying to have him killed, but she really just needs a hug

22. “I could have just as many titles if I wanted”

23. The way that as soon as she realizes Stix is missing, she goes into an absolute panic because what if something happened to her???

24. How she gets chills when Vizer Sotar calls her “My Queen” because no one’s ever called her that before

25. She put in so much work for the under-city but got recognized for none of it

26. She came up with a really awesome speech but didn’t get to say it

27. When Cam is talking about Paladins and magical doorways in Bloodwitch and externally Vivia is like, “Yeah, okay” when internally she’s basically saying, “What in the world is he talking about - ”

28. She completely tricked Merik into believing that the boat miniature was actually representing a Dalmotti trade ship

29. She also tricked Merik into believing that she believed him when he lied about where the miniature was

30. When she’s just so done with Linday in the council meeting and she keeps mentally making her ideal punishment for him even worse

31. Until she’s thinking about how he should be drawn, quartered, eviscerated, and burned to ashes and she gets distracted from the actual meeting

32. How flustered she gets when Stix kisses her on the cheek

33. How she constantly refers to that moment as “the kiss” even though it wasn’t a real kiss because it was so emotional for her

34. She quite literally jumps into a valley filled with seafire to save the people of Lovats

35. When Merik saves her from dying as she plummets through the valley of seafire, she acts like it’s an everyday occurrence and proceeds to just go about her business

36. She has a hard time trusting Cam at first, which makes sense, but as soon as he mentions the message that Stix sent her, Vivia immediately trusts him because it’s better than risking the chance that Stix might not need help

37. “You may lower your water” “Oh may I?  I’m so glad to have your permission”

38. She has plans to put more women on the High Council once she’s officially queen

39. When Vivia, a person who has never had a real conversation with Safi, knows within about five seconds that the reason Safi wants Marstok to trade with Nubrevna is because of Merik

40. Over the course of Bloodwitch, she goes from barely interacting with Vizer Sotar to going to talk to him for literally everything and asking for advice and help

41. Anybody could say any random thing and she’d find a way to connect it to the fact that Stix is perfect and amazing

48. When she’s anxious over something, she stops and remembers [insert advice from her mother].  It doesn’t sound like a lot but when you remember that the whole country thinks her mother was insane and you remember their mother-daughter relationship, it’s sweet

That moment in Bloodwitch where her thought process is basically “I like how Stix always calls me ‘sir,’ it shows we respect each other but not in terms of royalty...wait why is she calling me ‘Your Highness’ now, does she not think we’re friends anymore?...oh thank God she called me ‘Viv,’ we’re friends for sure”

50. Nubrevna needed food, and it wasn’t getting food, so she just decided to steal it

51. She’s unbelievably calm when Merik holds a pistol to her head

52. She tries so hard to stop the Fury but doesn’t realize that the Fury is a reincarnated Paladin who happens to be pretty much immortal

53. For all those times Merik thought about how she treated her crew like servants, you don’t see her chaining people to the deck for 10 hours at a time

89. When she realizes that the Void Well is the Void Well and she knows she should bring her father down to heal him but some part of her doesn’t know if she should...she’s just so confused and, I repeat, really needs a hug

90. That moment where she’s so busy that she doesn’t try to put on a façade and Stix actually notices and she’s just so touched

91. When Vivia decides that even though she doesn’t know Cam, there is no way she’s going to stand there and do nothing while Garren cuts off his finger

93. When she is so overwhelmed by all the negative things happening that she thinks to herself that this must be what drowning feels like, and it’s just so painful to read

94. That moment in Windwitch where she’s so scared that something might happen to Merik or her crew and she feels like she’s somewhere between Serafin and Jana and she doesn’t know which side is the better one, so she makes that decision to save the city even though she thinks it’ll kill her

96. How all of her irritation towards the vizers goes out the window whenever she talks to or thinks about Stix

97. How she’s so frustrated by Vaness at first but by the end has a lot of respect for her

X57: Bring Down The Sky

ok, i lied. there’s one last thing for me to get through in mass effect 1 - the BDtS dlc, which i’ve never played through before. it’s relatively short and available for free if you play on pc - included with the base game on origin, and can be downloaded on ea’s website for steam.

who wants some Additional Plot all crammed into one long post?!

in true ME style, you’re thrown directly into the action. once you enter the area this mission takes place on via the galaxy map, you’re shown a familiar looking world... and an asteroid slowly approaching.

and we’re dumped onto the asteroid itself in the mako.

it’s pretty easy to see the objective even if you weren’t paying attention to the distress call.

three giant fusion torches are propelling the asteroid at great speed toward a looming planet that looks rather earth-like, though we’re not in the local cluster at all. this is terra nova of the exodus cluster, one of the first planets colonised by humans after they discovered the mass relays and what lay beyond, and the second “extrasolar colony”, the first being no other than elysium, which we’ve heard about before.

there’re bases around the three tourches, all armed with heavy turrets, easy enough to dispatch of via the mako’s own gun, and once we make it inside the first base, we’re treated with a... rather unusual sight.

these charming fellows are batarians, outlaws and pirates for the most part, and while not seen in the base game, they go on to be the face of space-orcs, in a sense. vicious and seemingly war-hungry, they’re directly responsible for a ruthless shepard’s background, who was stationed on torfan and lived through their assault, the only person of their troop to do so.

we clear them and their varren out easily enough, and disable the first torch at a panel upstairs.

the communication line she’s using goes dead. on our way out...

we meet a man, who shoots and immediately panics when he sees the chest he attacked belongs to a human. eh, i’ve had worse.

this is simon, the chief engineer. he’s worried, of course - we’re heading right toward terra nova, where there are four million people living. not ideal.

well, that’s just fucking dandy, then.

Simon: It would be like millions of fusion bombs striking at once. Millions. The heat of the blast... a thousand kilmoeters away, clothes will ignite. There’ll be global wildfires. Air shock will flatten everything for hundreds of kilometers. Terra Nova will die, Shepard. Not just our colony - the planet. There’ll be a climate shift. Mass extinctions. The ecosystem won’t recover for thousands of years. Millions, maybe.

Shepard: Any chance it’ll land in the oceans?

Simon: That would be even worse! Tsunamis would sweep inland at hundreds of kilometers per hour. Millions of tonnes of water would be vaporized at the point of impact. Global cloud coverage. The plants could all die. And if they go, the whole ecosystem rolls over. I-- I’d have to run the numbers, but take my word for it: it’d be bad.

traditional mol nerd notes, since i was a dinosaur kid: the idea of the asteroid that decimated the dinosaurs (and began one of the 5th largest mass extinction events in eath’s history) was only first proposed in 1980, which is way more recent than i thought it was. the asteroid itself is thought to have landed in the area of chicxulub, mexico, and the collision itself is considered to have released around 100 teratonnes of TNT -equivalent in energy. so big boom. as of 2019, dr sean gulick has done research ⁽¹⁾, ⁽²⁾ on the crater itself and the rock record of the impact, and doctorial student robert depalma (and coauthor professor phillip manning) has excavated the Tanis area of Hell Creek ⁽³⁾ amd published a paper on the findings of deposits in the area ⁽⁴⁾, though the latter has been criticised for being potentially sensationalist, having been published by media outlets before it was accepted at PNAS.

either way, it’s commonly accepted that the impact would have thrown enough dust into the atmosphere to have caused an impact winter for up to a year, which was likely exacerbated by vaporised rocks in the atmosphere that helped to reduce sunlight reaching the surface, and causing acid rain. this in turn likely led to the oceans cooling and becoming more acidic. if wildfires were also on the menu, it would have contributed to a greenhouse effect.

whatever happened, the impact led to about 75% of all species on earth becoming completely extinct, so terra nova’s not looking especially peachy with twice the damage incoming.

tl;dr yeah seems pretty spot on

this comes out when you select the renegade’s “damn aliens” response, which is pretty incredible. even as shepard you have the option to be xenophobic... but batarians really haven’t proven themselves to be much more than as aggressive as krogans, honestly, if not worse, somehow. for a non-ruthless shepard to think this way... yeesh. goes to show just how much the attack on elysium affected the human psyche, even if you’re happy enough to bring aboard most other kinds of aliens aboard your stealth cruiser.

well, let’s get on our merry way. simon tells us that one of the torches is surrounded by proximity mines, which were going to be used as excavation tools once the asteroid was brought to terra nova - where it was en route toward anyway, by design - so we have to be extra careful going over them. yay.

never change, shep.

he also tells us that he had a crew working on the asteroid when the batarians hit. it’s easy enough to find them... or what’s left of them, once the batarians were through with them.

they’re, naturally, spread around the asteroid.

the message is cut off by the sound of an explosion.

and as for the third...

all three are very, very dead. but hey, on the way we at least got to turn on the transmission tower once again.

party on, dudes.

after you turn off the second torch, kate contacts you again.

we get the chance to see what’s going on with kate. there’s a man with her, and a small group of batarians that have them cornered.

spoiler: he doesn’t make it.

no time like the present to go turn that third and final torch off. after we do, there’s a small group of aliens waiting for us.

we have a little chat with our new friend, who tells us that he knows he’s in way over his head. another batarian by the name of balak is running the show, and “what balak wants, balak gets”.

[Renegade choice: Don’t be stupid.]

Shepard: Spoken like a true lackey. You get me out of here and I’ll take care of Balak. Or you can take your chances with me.

Charn: An, uh, interesting proposal. It certainly has benefits over the current situation. (to another batarian) Shut it down. This is Balak’s problem now.

he gives us a keycard, tells us where to find the boss, and scarpers. balak’s elsewhere, in a different facility, also guarded by turrets.

in case you don’t want to look at your map, the red gives it away. why’s it red? who cares!

there’s a hell of a shootout waiting for us in the final facility, but once we’ve cleared the area of what feels like every batarian ever conceived, balak himself deigns to come show his face.

Balak: I’m leaving this asteroid. If you try to stop me, I’ll detonate these charges and your helper and her friends are all going to die.

Shepard: You don’t get to leave, Balak. Not after what you’ve done.

Balak: What I’ve done? This is nothing compared to what’s been done to the batarians. We’ve been forced into exile. Forced to survive on what we can scrounge up. It’s been like that for decades.

Shepard: Why take it out on these people? They didn’t do anything to you or your race.

Balak: Didn’t do anything? Aside from colonizing a world that could have been ours? Aside from using resources that should have been ours? We were left to defend ourselves. But the humans were stronger than us. We knew that. The Council knew that. But it didn’t matter.

Balak: It was you. You and your kind are the only reason we’re in this position.

Shepard: How does killing innocent people make up for that?

Balak: We had no other options. Sometimes you need to get someone’s attention before they’ll listen.

Shepard: Is that was Elysium was? A way to get our attention? Well, you got it. And when we responded you ran like cowards. Now you want to start it all over again.

Balak: You couldn’t possibly understand... Actually, you just don’t want to understand. And I’m done wasting my breath.

the choice is, once again, in your hands. that’s a very interesting dialogue they have before this... and one i can understand both sides of. it’s worth noting that originally the batarians were welcomed into citadel space, but their aggression provoked more than one crisis intergalactically. their exile from the council is recent- they weren’t happy with humans colonising in areas that batarians already considered claimed (this is the skyllian verge and elysium, for those keeping track), and when they were told no by the council, they closed their embassy, severed all relations, and became a rogue state, retreating back to their own systems and becoming known primarily as pirates and slavers within the terminus systems, outside of citadel space. those in the terminus systems are actively rebelling against their own government, too, who prefer to stay in their space.

i don’t want to use the word self-imposed exile, but from the human’s point of view it’s very much a throwing your toys out of the pram because you can’t get what you want act. then again, from the batarian point of view, why should they stick with a council that doesn’t seem to consider them as on equal footing enough to grant them rights to colonise the land as they claim it?

i chose to let balak go, and save the hostages. we’re stopping the asteroid either way, and death for death is... well. not ideal. if we’re throwing away our ideals and doing the whole eye for an eye thing we should have started a long time ago.

worth noting here that the base game offers a sidemission i remember me to colonist shepards, where you meet a survivor of mindoir, a colony that was raided by batarians ~13 years before game’s start, and is the colonist equivalent of the sole survivor mission dead scientists. after the colony was attacked, the surviving girl was taken by slavers, and the sidemission deals with you taking her down from a suicidal response to systems alliance soldiers finding and killing her batarian slavers. provided you talk her down, she resurfaces in a minor way in the next game, with an email thanking you for helping her. i think it’s a damn shame that this sidemission is only available to colonist shepard, because in no way is this an isolated view of the batarians and the things they’ve done and would have been a nice bit of additional flavour text for the rest of the game, considering batarians are only mentioned in passing once or twice (and in basegame only get a concept art picture by their codex entry, even).

she explains that the man the batarians killed was her brother, who convinced her to join the team in the first place. you get the chance to ask her a couple of questions, mostly about herself, but also...

Kate: I don’t even think they knew. When they first arrived, they were talking about getting us back to their ship. They wanted to sell us as slaved. When Balak showed up, everything changed. It was his idea to redirect the asteroid. Said it was the will of the batarian rebellion, whatever that is.

considering balak and his contingency are the outliers of their society... well, buddy, i hate to say it, but you don’t speak for the rest of your people. sure, tensions are high with humans... but they are with the turians, as well, and the turians didn’t throw a hissy and exile themselves and have their people considered the worst of the worst by even their government for the practises of a few.

eghhh. this is one of those surprisingly complicated situations. this isn’t the first time bioware discusses this concept - dragon age 2 comes to mind, and i’m sure i’ll get around to that as well sometime - but we’re not really given any way of viewing the batarians as anything other than an enemy in BDtS. we do see more batarians in the future, and that’s its own thing. we’ll revisit this later.

Bring Down The Sky, complete in around an hour. not bad for a (now) free dlc mission, but the stuff i’ve done here today won’t carry over to mass effect 2. turns out the last save i had on the normandy was actually just after feros; all my other save states were in the middle of something of on the citadel at the end of the game where there’s no way to get out and do something else. thankfully, not having completed the dlc doesn’t affect anything in the future too much, though i think i won’t be getting some me2 background commentary. not that i’d know what it was, having never done this content before.

Bedtime Headcanons 💤

Holly: Holly dreams very frequently, but most of the time when she wakes up she has a hard time remembering what she dreamed about. Mostly, she’s left with only bits and pieces of what she dreamt of.

Ralhy: For Ralhy, she mostly has a mix of dreams and nightmares at the same time. It starts off the way she wants, but soon enough it changes into everything she doesn’t want which causes her to fight her way out of the dream. And most of the time she wakes up angry.

Mercy: Mercy never really has either dreams or nightmares, but when she was a child she used to have constant nightmares because she was intensely afraid of how her life was going to pan out since she didn’t know who her birth parents were, she was suffering and fighting for everything she had in Suicide Slums. Her nightmares had stopped almost instantly when she found Harry Graves and he brought her into his home.

Marcello: Despite his eccentric outward appearance, he has some pretty dank dreams. Most of the time he literally dreams in black and white, L.A. Noire-style dreams where he’s actually the hero of his own mind with the bludgeoning actions he’s used to in real life.

Kara: Kara definitely dreams! She dreams almost constantly, sometime she’ll even catch herself in a day dream. In her first days on Earth, once she’s settled in on Kent Farm with Clark, she’ll dream at night of her former life on Krypton and how things used to be. She’ll dream of Lara and baby Kal-El, taking care of him and things being the ideal way that she believes they should have been. However, in her amnesia verse where she’s a waitress in Detroit, she tries to recover her dreams, but mostly ends up empty since she has no idea of what her life was before she somehow landed in Detroit.

Ophelia: Ophelia doesn’t dream all that much, she mostly has too many things on her mind to even form a single image of a dream. However, every so often she does have a rare dream, mostly of how she wished her life could have gone and how things would be different. She idealizes it almost to the point of it being too much, too perfect, and sometimes she’ll even turn it from what she wants into a nightmare of either the reality of how things did go, or a warped version of everyone she loves turning on her.

Luna: Clearly, Luna is the epitome of a dreamer. And she does dream a lot, her dreams are often so vivid and clear to her while asleep that she has a habit of sleepwalking (”that’s why I wear shoes to bed”).

Queenie: Queenie is mostly a daydreamer of the life she really wants to have, leaving her job at the MACUSA, having her own business doing the things she loves, and overall just being happy. Mostly, she tries to avoid dreams at night because of when she was small they would mostly lead to nightmares. Her ‘dreams’ she had when she was a child would be strange to her at first and turn into some of the worst nightmares that her sister would have to wake her from because she was prone to screaming in utter terror from them.

Promise: Promise is very much a day person and a night person, she usually doesn’t go to sleep until the wee hours of the night, which means that by the time she’s finally tired herself out of her busy days and nights, that she simply has no time to dream. She lives in Wonder(Under)land, what more of a dream is that place already? Or a nightmare, which ever way you look at it.

Sunset: Despite the way she carries herself, Sunset really is a dreamer. She dreams about the sea mostly, finding her Glory Jewel and possibly finding a way to resurrect it to its former sheen. She also dreams about the way her life could have been had the tragedy that ended her time in society and transformed her into the pirate she is.

Camille: Camille’s days and nights are consumed with work and chaos that she barely sleeps, much less dreams. Honestly, it’s amazing she hasn’t completely snapped at this point. She’s very good at keeping herself together no matter how much sleep she’s missed. Her longest time without sleeping? Three days in a row.

Jane: Honestly, Jane doesn’t even know if she dreams or not, because whenever she wakes up she can’t remember anything but a certain song going through her head. She doesn’t remember one detail about anything that happened in her dreams. She likes to say that she dreams in music.

Viva: Viva doesn’t dream almost at all, not because it’s an unpleasant thing for her, but simply because she doesn’t have anything that comes to her for a dream. She doesn’t dream in color, or even every day events, she has a clear blank eight hours where she completely knocks out for a while. She mostly thinks of this as her ‘personal time’.

Lucy: Lucy likes to think that all she does is dream, she goes through life with such a positive attitude, and she’s completely herself, she doesn’t have to hide anything from anyone because she’s not afraid of what anyone else thinks. So, her dreams are mostly of her every day life, and what she hopes for in the future.

Honestly everyone shares similar traits...

And I know there are other arts out of there that share this crossover, (and it doesn’t help that two main characters share Sora as a name)

But beyond that small detail, I figured it would be fun to think about what crests the KH character might have.

Granted, I think everyone shares a bit of each crest’s characteristics especially Sora.

But beyond that here we go:

Sora

Now for this little cinnamon roll, I can tell you that it was rather hard what crest to give him, because with the exception of Knowledge he could piratically have any crest give what kind of character he is. And I will admit the Crest of Courage was really tempting, and it could be because of how courageous Sora really is, willing to go headfirst into battle and save his friends or anyone in need. He’s willing to put his own needs behind him to help others. Which also made him ideal for Reliability(Sincerity in the Japanese version),

and Crest of Sincerity(purity in Japanese)

because of his pure carefree nature also because how honest Sora is and how he always keeps his promises if he can help it. Light was also a good candidate but I think another character earned that crest. And so on, I can name every crest but we’ll be here all day if I did.

So in the end the crest I gave him was:  

Friendship.

I mean I think it would be criminal if I didn’t give him the Crest of Friendship. This guy is the literal embodiment of Friendship. Cause as we all know it once you enter Sora’s friendship circle there’s no getting out of it. Also: “my friends are my power!”

But to be fair I think courage was a close second with Light and Miracles following up after. (But again, he’s good with any crest besides knowledge lol)

Riku

Now Riku’s crest was... rather little tricky to figure out. Considering how many trials this guy went through in order to get where he is. And while I know people would be questioning why it’s not friendship because that was Matt’s crest and because of how Matt and Riku had the same personality in a sense. And I do agree with you, but I think the crest that matched him the best had to be:

Crest of Reliability.

I think more or less it also had to do with the fact that after Riku went through all that struggles, to me the Reliability aspect fit him well because he’s willing to go through thick and thin for his friends as well. He’s willing to die for Sora and Kairi and is always consider himself responsible for his actions after he fought the darkness within him. Chain of Memories is good example. He took on the role of being Sora’s protector as well not taking the easy route out when Naminé offered to alter his memories of his past with the darkness and getting rid of Ansem with it. Instead he took on the challenge and took over his past mistakes head on. And to me, that makes him as reliable as any person. (Also since the crest is also sincerity in Japanese, I think it also fit’s Riku because of how much he genuinely cares for his friends and is also a man of his word).

Kairi

Let’s be real.

Her crest is Light.

She get’s the Crest of Light to represent her role as a princess of Heart, I think that was her biggest defining trait, and just how much of a pure-hearted character she truly is. And it’s been proven in the anime that the crest of Hope and Light were the strongest crests. Which also brings in the next crests that would fit her.

Hope and Love.

Hope because of how powerful that integral is, and Kairi has shown to simply hope and it always works for her. And love because of her feelings towards her friends. Though, the whole Princess of Heart really took over, so Light was obviously the best crest that described her the most.

Roxas

Okay, so we finally get to the harder challenges.

Roxas was a character that took me a while to figure out, but I think in the end:

The Crest of Hope to me spoke the most for Roxas’ character. I think the thing that made me believe he has the Crest of Hope had to the amount of faith he had in his friends and how much resistance he had against Organization XIII (which are the team of Darkness in this case) it showed how powerful of a character he is. Also, it doesn’t help that Roxas’ power is “the light within the darkness.” (The hope that evil tries to cover)  

The other Crest I was tempted to give him was the Crest of Destiny namely because he was dubbed the “Key of Destiny.” But I personally think hope fit the bill just a little more.

Xion

Her’s was a little on the tricky side as well, but I think...

The Crest of Kindness held the best attribute to her. Xion is a sweet character who I personally think was misjudged from the start, and despite this when she begins to get her own identity she begins to show how much of caring and sweet character she is. (The manga made her especially kind and adorable!) And to me, the Crest of Kindness was pretty close to Light in a way, which sorta reflects Kairi as well. So I think this was a nice one to give her. I think the crest that came pretty close as well was Hope and Sincerity. Hope because of how much she thought to be with her friends for as long as possible and Sincerity because of how much of an honest character she was. But I think Kindness worked the best for her.

Axel

Okay... this one might spark up a little debate, and I don’t blame you if you think otherwise... cause even I wasn’t sure about this one either:

Courage.

Now I know what some of you are thinking. How is he the Crest of Courage? Well one, it represents fire, that’s a given. But I think this crests represents his actions in general rather than his personality. Sorta like Kairi, while Light may not necessarily be the whole picture of Kairi’s character, but I think the crest also can represent the effect on the person as a whole.

And I think what Axel did does represent courage as a whole. More or less starting the second he left the organization. And sure it could be considered a bit cowardly since he didn’t leave at first, but afterwards when Roxas disappeared it made him realized that, and he left the group entirely. Sure he went into hiding, but in the end he didn’t think twice to help the trinity trio and help fight against the Dusks, and later on saving Even going as far as saving Sora and becoming a Keyblade Wielder to help fight against the true Organization XIII in KH3, and facing Xenmas (granted, not ending too well) but he showed no fear to him even as he was essentially dying.

The only other crest I think would suite him were Sincerity and Friendship, perhaps even Love .

I’m not too 100 percent with Courage, so if you disagree with me on this, I totally get you on it.

Aqua

Oh boy... she was a bit of doozy to figure out what crest matched her the best. But in the end,

The Crest of Love had the most impact for her character.

The second being Friendship, but let’s be real Sora earned that one by a long shot lol

But I think Love held a similar effect and honestly to me it fits Aqua more as a character because of the love for her friends. Now I think I know what some of you readers are thinking. But isn’t love for something romantic. And while yes, that’s true, but there are different kinds of Love. Take Digimon Sora for instance, her Crest of Love activated for her loving and caring nature for Biomon, which allowed her to evolve. I don’t think Sora loved Biomon in a romantic sense for the crest to activate.

The same is for Aqua since, she is already a self-sacrificing character and is willing to so anything for her friends. Going as far as making sure Ven was safe before going to search for Terra and even letting her take his place in entering the realm of Darkness instead. And the whole opening in Fragmentary Passage, shows her trying to fight for her friends and trying to save them no matter what happens to her.

To me Aqua is one of the most strongest characters in KH and I think Love is huge aspect to her character and thus I believe she get’s the Crest of Love.

*Though Knowledge was considered, since she’s a really smart character herself.

Ventus

Ima straight out, he was one of the easiest characters to think which would go, cause the first that came to mind was:

The Crest of Sincerity

And no. Not just because his Wayfinder is green.

But I personally think Sincerity was the best crest for our little bundle of Joy namely because I think Ventus was one of the most earnest and purest characters in the series as whole (not including the Disney or Final Fantasy characters). He’s a boy with a pure heart who wanted nothing more to make friends and find his older brother, Terra.

I think more or less the way how he saw both Aqua and Terra was basically family to him and he wanted nothing more than for both of them to be happy and safe. And I think his actions were genuine and caring. The crest I felt suited him was Destiny and Friendship, but in this case I don’t think Destiny had much to offer since it wasn’t revealed until towards the end what happened and what master Xehanort wanted to do. And because of this, he knew that both Terra and Aqua were going to get hurt because of him, so he knew that if anything were to happen he asked them to put an end to him. I’ve never seen him be so serious and sincere during his entire story arc than that moment right then and there.

Terra

Okay... I will admit it, Terra was the hardest character to classify him as to what crest he would get.

It really was, I had been theorizing, debating and overall looking up information to know what kind of character he is and what are the traits to the overall Digi Destine Crests. Because of this I had to extend to the extra two crests:

Crest of Miracles

Crest of Destiny

And while Crest of Courage was close, I think Axel won that spot (though it’s very subject to change tbh)

So the only one I thought would fit Terra the most was:

Crest of Destiny

The biggest reason was because it was a big factor to his arc. Terra has been presumed to already have this “fate” that his story was going to go down as Xehanort would control and take over his body. Terra was doomed to be in this Destiny.

And Terra has shown to be rather resilient but at the same time vulnerable. Since his failure in the Mark of Mastery exam, he wanted nothing more than to prove to everyone that has what it takes. Jokes aside, I do believe Terra wanted to create his own Destiny by his own hands. Show that he can do things on his own and prove to Master Eraqus that he too can become a master like Aqua. Like his father.

But other than that I do think Crest of Courage would be the next one, because he stood firm in what he believed in and was willing to face his master, his father to protect his little brother at all costs.

BONUS!

Now there’s a limit amount of Crests to give everyone, so I will repeat some because I believe this characters can get these crests as well if given the AU chance.

Naminé    

While she may be a part of Kairi, I do believe her to be her own character with her own thoughts and morals. And to me the:

Crest of Sincerity fit her bill the best. She’s kind and honest with her words, while yes she did essentially lie to Sora, however that wasn’t out of her free will. She was forced to do it because of the rebellious Organization members. And when it came down to it, she did what was right, even if it meant she would be hurt or killed.

She was honest to Sora and Riku in the end and did everything she could to help Xion and Roxas despite what others told or forced her to do.

Otherwise I think the crest of Kindness would also work for her

Vanitas

Oh boy, this guy is also a doozy to figure what crest would fit him. Especially concerning his dark sadistic nature.

But I think by the end of the day...

The Crest of Destiny

Similar reason to Terra, because from the start he’s already been created for the sole reason to do what Xehanort wanted. The X-blade. And to me, we never really got to see much of another reason for Vanitas sticking around and be the lovable jerk that he is. Other than that he wants to fuse with Ven again, I never really saw much more that his charisma.

But because of that, great personality or not, there’s not much I can offer beyond since the Crests are representative of good and “light”

So giving him another crest wasn’t exactly too easy.  

Also the crest is gold, like his eyes lol

Replica Riku

Or Repliku as many fans like to name him. I believe he earned a spot on this list, he may be a copy but in a way I still like to consider him as a separate character with an altered personality.

Believe it or not, but I think Crest of Love could fit him.

This may be, or not be because of KH3. How he sacrificed himself to save Riku and Naminé. I wouldn’t doubt (regardless it was because of how Naminé was forced to alter his memories) he really did care a great deal for her. Giving up the possibility of getting a body of his own to save Naminé.

Whether he loved her as a friend, or something more, (that’s completely up to the perspective). But in the end he paid the price for her, and even cared enough to help Riku with his own struggles. It may have cost him his life, but to him... it was worth it

Saïx/Isa

Yes.

I’m adding our cynical blue haired lovable a-hole here.

Namely KH3 inspired me to add him, that and I saw a picture where someone put the trios as squads instead and Saïx was also added in.

And I totally support it. So he’s here whether you guys like it or not lol

But beyond that detail...

Knowledge

Finally someone who got the Crest of Knowledge!

While I do know the Crest of Sincerity might be a close second because I never saw Saïx as a liar. Even when he was a bad guy he never lied on screen. Sure he may have manipulated the situation during his time as Saïx in the Organization he’s never really told a lie.

But at the same time I think Knowledge fits him the best because of how practical smart he was. Sure he was a fierce combatant in battle (I’m sure Sora and Roxas can back that statement up). But I don’t think he got a rank so high up and get promoted by Xenmas as second in command because he was just strong, otherwise that would’ve been given to Lexaeus considering the ax he carries around and his element is earth. He was pretty paitent and even helped Vexen sneak around helping the others in KH3

(cause I can’t imagine another character wanting to help bring Roxas back and to “atone” for his mistakes) And the way how Demyx reacted sure indicated whoever was this “guilty person” is had to be the last person to wanna go against the organization. Especially since this “he was one of the chosen.”

And to be able to do that, it must take not only a lot of guts (maybe it should be courage instead) or incredibly smart to accomplish that without being caught.

Otherwise the only KH characters that comes close to the Crest of Knowledge is Zexion/Ienzo and Vexen/Even and Ansem the Wise, Yen Sid... —

“questions to ask yourself before the new year”

what is one small way you can become a better person? for others? for yourself? 

as much as i preach personal growth, i do not often focus on one area that i can improve on. usually i strive towards a more wholistic change, or generic ways that i can build myself into the person that i want to become. i think i want to become more humble? i really think i’m the shit all the time, and that just exacerbates my alpha complex, and i’m kind of over it. while i love the power trip, i truly think it gets in the way of being a kind person. and although being kind is such a generic goal but honestly i think that is my manifestation for this year- kindness. to myself, my body, my journey. to others- meaningful gifts, gentle words, patience and loyalty.  

what are you holding onto currently that is no longer serving you? why are you holding on? what’s one small step you can take towards releasing it? 

i think i am holding on to a lot of values that were never really mine, and that don’t necessarily align with the direction that i am now going. family values passed down from my parents, including gender stereotypes and expectations, sexual shame, family structure and life fulfillment. its challenging to find out who i really am or what i believe in when i constantly hear their voices echoing in my head, and feel their silent or not so silent judgement. i just want to become someone that i can be proud of, and that person might look totally different than the daughter they would be proud of. and i have this constant battle between who they want me to be and who i should be. i’m holding on because there was a time when i truly believed in those values and they resonated deeply within me. and i believe its hard to give up anything that you build your life upon. so i am in the demolition and remodeling phase of my life, and i am honestly not sure what is going to come out on the other side. i hope that it is someone who is passionate, kind, generous and loyal, no matter which side of the coin i fall on, or what side of the isle, or where i fall on the scale of sexuality. i want the person who i become to be in love with myself, in love with life, and grounded in who i have built myself to be. 

goal for the new year that excites me? goal that scares me? 

the entire idea of rebuilding myself- my brand if you will is terribly exciting and also terrifying. as much as i want to be this person that is confident in who i am becoming, i also know the emotional toll it will take to explain, argue, and defend everything about who i am. ideally i would be allowed this journey with grace, but i know that my family will not allow this without a fight. it is especially hard because religion is everything to me, and they cannot fathom that it would not be everything to me. i am very comfortable allowing them to live out their religious beliefs and even though i may not agree with everything, i try not to criticize too much, and i just beg for the same. i believe it to be possible to coexist in a loving relationship without hatred of difference, and now we take on the impossible task of convincing them of this. 

what do you want to be a student of in the new year? 

i want to be a student of generous empathy, and open understanding. i want to start at ground zero with everyone i meet, and even those i have known fo years. i want to leave behind expectations and try to understand others in a way that i would want to be understood. i want to be a student of listening, and hear beyond the words, into the feelings and aching of the soul. i want to be a student of grace, and give each person the benefit of the doubt, and never assume the worst of anyone. 

who in your life deserves the biggest thank you for this year? 

the many teachers in my life. not education teachers, but those who taught me worthy life lessons. my lover anthony, who taught me about longing, giving, receiving, and heartbreak. my friend alexa, who taught me kindness, forgiveness and that everyone deserves a second chance. my soul mate mikaela, for teaching me bravery, and to trust the journey. my mother, for teaching me the importance of family, how to create space when the world feels like its crashing in, and the gift that a warm embrace can be. my father, for teaching me to value connection and to build it whenever you can with those you love. and to countless others who have shown me different facets of myself throughout the year, how to value myself, and to reach past myself to see others. 

what can you thank yourself for this year? 

i can thank myself for resilience. this year has been life changing in so many ways. i have told my friends many times, but i truly remember so many moments from this year. often at the end of the year everyone remarks about how fast it went, and that they can’t remember anything that happened to them. this year was one of the most influential i’ve ever experienced and we made it all the way through, giving love and patience to myself when needed, and pushing myself into places i never thought i would be. i can thank myself for my job, and my career that is always rewarding in ways i could never have imagined. 

what have you outgrown this year? 

toxic masculinity and femininity. gender stereotypes. belittling others. fake friends. boys who have the audacity to try me. comparison. expectations of timing for personal growth. the color purple. red meat. tearing myself down.

what is an important boundary to set in the new year? 

giving of myself when i am not comfortable/before i am ready. this year i am manifesting emotional and physical space where i make the rules and do not give unless i want to, and have had time to make the decision. 

what’s a memory from this past year that makes you smile just thinking about it? 

january - the freedom of waiheke island, new zealand. eating a plum on the beach in wellington. “women can do anything”. the boat ride on lake wakatipu. 

february- meeting joey for the first time, and his lil helmet. mariah adopts nut! 

march- taking dumb vides of the security workers at the bethel gate. dawson brown pays mariah uphoff $1 at lunch. mariah stephonson and i adopt plants from trader joes and immediately kill them. photoshoot with korbyn and erin on the top of the parking ramp. the meme of the lil hamster wearing a cowboy hat. 

april - mariah’s softball game with anthony, getting pizza. cohort baby! celebrating mariah and erin’s birthday at union.
