You know I started scrolling through some season 1 TMA posts and I gotta say, "Killing floor" (ep 30) is still my favourite episode of season 1, like, the whole description of the expicience was really great and immersive and I think this type of architecture horror, paired with what kind of architecture it was, was really great, I really loved it

Hilariously my dungeon meshi brainrot is actually turning out to be an obstacle for writing mdzs fic?? And not in the 'can't focus due to shiny new hyperfixation' way either it's because of a philosophical conflict between the two works. It's not like they're complete opposites or anything but in mdzs and the cultivation genre at large the act of finding balance and spiritual enlightenment leads to this... slowing and even halting of the cycle of life. You can go without eating or sleeping, prolong your lifespan and even become immortal and these are all good admirable things to strive for. Meanwhile in dungeon meshi that would not fly at all like the whole story is an exploration on how trying to extract yourself from the cycle of life and the natural ecosystem you're a part of is actually really bad and you shouldn't do it. All living things need to eat and all will eventually be eaten!!
So when i've been rotating dunmeshi all day and wanna get to one of my wips i have to actively rewire my brain before I start going "Inedia is a violation of the natural cycle of consumption and being consumed" girl that is NOT the energy that's needed here.

Remember when I said that I'd post the funnier quotes from my three month long period of jury duty? You know... three years ago? XD
I can't remember who said everything, so if a quote isn't labeled, assume it's from the Defense or Prosecution.
Names have been changed for obvious reasons. Quotes under the cut, since the post is quite long.
----------
Defense: “You said you were a basketball fan, right? You remain under oath.”
Witness: “Yes, I've watched.”
Defense: “What team do you support?”
Witness: “I don't wanna prejudice the jury.”
-------
“You abandoned us for the East Coast?!”
-------
Witness: “I have post-it note traumatic stress disorder.”
-------
“I need the ‘F/U’ explanation.”
-------
Defense: “My colleagues have informed me that I need to lower my volume.”
-------
Prosecution: *staring up at 6 ft. microphone* “Oh, don't I wish.”
-------
“Do we really need to make the witness do math?!”
-------
“This isn't a magical thing-that-must-not-be-said Voldemort-type word, is it? The Dark Lord won't come if you say it?”
-------
“I've felt ranging levels of disappointment- I mean, thoughts about the results I received.”
-------
“What company do you work for again?”
“Apple.”
“Can you get us the hookup- WITHDRAWN! WITHDRAWN!”
-------
“...Your honor, I broke the courtroom.”
-------
Prosecution: *talking to witness who's a medical professional* “What, you don't carry your 2005 essay on sleep with you at all times?"
*laughter from court*
Prosecution: "…Well, obviously, we do!”*pulls up essay*
-------
Judge: “Objection overruled.”
“OBJEC-??!!”
-------
“No more questions, your honor.”
Judge: “HALLELUJAH.”
-------
Witness: “So much paperwork…”
-------
Prosecution: “I suppose one doctor can read another doctor's handwriting?”
Witness: “We're forced to.”
Prosecution: “You're better at reading doctor's handwriting and human handwriting!”
-------
Bailiff: “Reminder that you are NOT allowed to discuss this case with anyone until it is concluded.”
Juror: “Can we make fun of the lawyers?”
Bailiff: “That, you can do.”
-------
“Let us turn our attention to your conversation with Jason Rocks, which is a FANTASTIC name.”
-------
“He's a little sweaty in this picture. Was he always sweaty?”
-------
*banging noise*
“Bless you.”
-------
“We're looking at RTFs and PDFs. Know what those mean?”
Witness: “No.”
“Neither do I.”
-------
“...I think I bored it to death.”
-------
“Never mind. I'll sustain the objection myself.”
Judge: “I'll just go home, then.”
“It's far too late to back out now, your honor.”
-------
*reading* “‘We hope that the truth will be revealed, and that the government will go fart with their findings.’ …I hope for everyone in the room's sake that whoever wrote this meant ‘far.’”
-------
Witness: “Oh, so it's like a mic condom!”
-------
“Can the jury sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to me?”
-------
“Objection, your honor. …To post-it notes.”
-------
“You don't have any special deli memory? No pastrami?”
“Every Jerry's Deli looks the same to me.”
“I feel it.”
-------
“Click right. Right. More right. Right. Up. Right. Right. …Okay, click on that button… Unless you forgot to renew your Microsoft 365 membership and haven't updated.” *face-chairs*
-------
“At that same meeting-”
“OBJECTION!”
“...I didn't finish.”
“Whatever it is, it's objectionable.”
-------
“How do you get around a house that's 60,000 square feet?! With a go-kart?”
“With two sons, a wife, and a mother-in-law, any house feels small.”
-------
“Unfortunately, if I provide verification, the judge would provide me with a toothbrush and send me away.”
-------
“All I know about horses is that my dog loves them. He runs up to police horses.”
-------
Defense: “You'd be glad that you didn't remember the jingle. I was gonna have you sing it!”
Witness: “You wouldn't want to hear me sing. I'd be asked to go home early.”
-------
“Let’s pull up your driver's license.”
Witness: “OH NO.”
“I actually like this picture!”
-------
Judge: "Re-cross?”
Defense: “No further questions, thank you.”
Judge: “THANK YOU.”
-------
*goes through very long list of exhibits* “This is the longest list, I promise.”
Judge: “The jurors will be tested on them after closing arguments.”
-------
“I don't know if she said it as dramatically as you did.”
“Very few can.”
-------
“Did you prepare this report?”
Witness: “Yes I did.”
“And how did you prepare this report?”
Witness: “On the computer.”
-------
“Objection to asking the witness to do math on the fly!”
-------
“The document's already been admitted.”
“Okay-”
“In October.” (1 - 2 months prior)
“...It was so long ago…”
-------
“Yes, we do have a LIVE witness with us, but your honor would be a tough act to follow.”
-------
“...But for some reason, math is your passion.”
-------
Defense: “You know attorneys that work for free?! ‘Cause I know some people who would be inter-”
*loud commotion from multiple tables*
Defense: “...Sorry, your honor, I didn't hear the verdict.”
Judge: “There was just an uproar.”
-------
“Now, if we could just digitally highlight this sentence here-”
“Sir, that's a physical copy you're holding.”
-------
Judge: “Cross-examination?”
Prosecution: “Just a few minutes, your honor.”
Judge: “I'm going to hold you to that.”
-------
Defense: “You know, it's never a good sign for a lawyer when you start your closing argument and the jurors get up and leave.”
-------
“If you gave me a check for $500 for saying that I believe in the Easter Bunny, haha! In my bank it goes! I'll take it!”
-------
Defense: “‘Return to the Cave of Time’ is an all-time classic, as it was the follow-up story to the classic ‘Cave of Time.’ The plot is that you live every day as the same day, but a little different, and you're trying to escape that day. …It's a scenario that I'm sure NONE OF YOU can relate to.”
-------
Defense: “And my all-time favorite ‘Choose Your OWN Adventure’ book… ‘You Are A Shark.’ It is so good, ladies and gentlemen, that I SO wish I could he like Oprah and tell you to look under your chairs to find a copy. …Unfortunately, I know the judge would never allow it.”
-------
“If hiring a lawyer who's a jackass is enough to indict you of criminal activity, then you'd have to indict anyone who ever had to hire a lawyer.”
-------
Defense: “OBJECTION! OBJECTION! OBJECTION!”
Prosecution: “...Only one objection is needed.”
Defense: “Well, you get two more for free!”
----------

They can't keep getting away with this.
I really have very few fucks to give about the Atla comics (wish they never existed), and I am no fan of Azula, but the panel from Ashes of the Academy had me shook, I gotta say. I have never seen authors disrespect their audience so thogoughly, and honestly, up until now I did not really understand what that saying even meant. Authors don't have to cater to the wishes of a fanbase, and they can and should write what they personally want (I believe GRRM once said something along the lines of "I am not a democracy"?), but it's one thing to carry on with your personal authorial intent despite what everyone wants from you, and it's whole 'nother thing to break the fourth wall to say: yo, you suck, losers, get wrecked. This was so uncalled for? The fuck?
It feels to me as if the authors are hell-bent on alienating the female reader base, at this point. They famously dragged Zutara through the dirt (I haven't been there, but it sounds horrible) - which is a pairing favored predominantly by women. They now attack Azula stans - and while I don't know what the gender ratio in this case is, I somehow presume that it's mostly women that stan her?
Then there is also the treatment of Katara, about which novels have been written at this point.
I know that some people are mad about Korra being presumably depicted as the cause of an Apocalypse in Seven Havens.
Like. Do you see my point?
Oh and then, they nerf Zuko to the point of him looking like a thirteen-year old, presumably to make Aang look cooler, I suppose? Which is so hilarious, because even if you want to cater to a male audience and nice guys or dudebros or whatever, Zuko used to have so much potential in this regard, but no, let's turn him into a wholly different character and make him look like a lanky little boy with no authority. I might be conspiratorial, I admit that, but man... god forbid women enjoy him, right? God forbid women enjoy a certain pairing that sparks something in them, or female characters, or a beloved female villain. All hail Aang, and no one but Aang? Is that it?
Is that it, Atla? Is that your legacy?

Yeah!! You're right! The mw reboot fandom is almost entirely carried by the alone mission; it's not even funny. More controversially you could say that the fandom is carried by ghoap which was spawned largely from this mission. I feel like people didn’t notice the quality drop as much between 2019 and 2022 because while the game wasn’t good per say it was still fun. Realistically speaking people shouldn’t have been that surprised 2023 went the way it did given the difference between 2022 and 2019 but hindsight's 20/20 I guess. The thing that really gets me about the mw reboot in general is that there are just enough kernels of cool ideas sprinkled throughout the bullshit that it makes sad for the things that could have been.
Part of the reason why I think the mw reboots are weaker than the originals is that they try to completely divorce the story from the context the originals first emerged from. The original mw games were absolutely products of their time and place and by moving them to modern day they completely rip away the sociopolitical and cultural context that inspired the originals. The story is the way it is because it’s a reflection of shit that was going on in the late Bush and early Obama eras! The reboots have divorced the art from its context and the narrative and characters suffer from that.
I fear for the lives of anyone in the vicinity if Price and Adler end up meeting. Do NOT let Captain Price near Bell; he has suffered enough.
Please don’t do Hudson like that he’d be rolling in his bald grave if he knew his descendant was running a pmc. Mason shouldn’t even have been allowed to have a fork man
Tumblr media
How it feels when you don't like the headcanon that Graves is Adler's son
#Mann I will never not be mad for the things that could have been with the reboot#Some of the changes they made were fucking stupid though. Why get rid of Roach and make Soap a Sargent that was dumb#I like reboot Gaz though. He can stay.#Price... ouhhh I think if you're only familiar with the reboot and then went back and played the original it'd be a bit of a shock of how#much og Price sucked as a Person. The reboot sanded away a lot of the more negative and morally dubious parts of his personality.#Reboot Price ends up feeling weirdly flandardized in a way#I could write an entire essay on the original Ultranationalists and how they're based off of very real insurgencies and terrorists that were#active in Russia at the time these games were first written.#Viewed through an American lens.#The reboot's ultranationalists are completely devoid of that real world connection and are thematically and narratively neutered for it.#Don't get me wrong I would absolutely read something well written about the 141 and black ops casts interacting.#Interactions between the original mw characters with the black ops characters would be more imteresting than the reboot mw characters but is#non existent as far as I'm aware.#Another reason I forgot to add for why making them connected was a bad idea is that they're just thematically and tonally very different#Especially so since they've pivoted hard away from action hero camp with the reboot that is very present in blops#This is so late. I had it all written out but then forgort about it. For this I'm sorry.

I don't know why I feel so numb towards the new Avatar announcement. Like I'm not excited for it. But I'm also not as devastated and pessimistic about it as a lot of people are about it.
Like yeah, Korra haters are crawling out of the mud and shit again, but they would've taken ANY excuse to hate on her. Like, even if it were all sunshines and rainbows in a post Korra world they would probably be going on about how she was a 'weak avatar with no accomplishments' or a Mary Sue or something like that.
Tumblr media
I'm cautiously suspecting that Avatar Studios are going for a Kuruk-style story with Korra, where she was somehow defamed. It seems that the Avatar books were a sort of testing ground for them, as the 'Avatar's twin' plotline was also teased in the Roku book.
I understand why this upsets some people, as it gives Korra an ultimately unhappy life and leaves her as hated in-world. However, I don't think we should jump to conclusions of Bryke somehow wanting to 'destroy' Korra's character, just because they didn't give her a happy life. Characters like the aforementioned Kuruk, and fan favourite Toph Beifong didn't have 'happy endings' in the traditional sense, but that enhances their characters, in my opinion. Like yeah, it's tragic that sometimes storylines are sad- but that doesn't make them bad storylines.
Is it a bummer that Korra seemingly had a tragic life? Yeah. But also, she's the Avatar, and would inevitably face a lot of strife in her life- and not do things perfectly. Aang also faced difficulties and had problems in his adult life.
It also feels like there's a potential meta storyline going on there, potentially having the in world hate towards Korra tied to the IRL hate towards Korra. This isn't the first time Korra's character has been used for more meta-style commentary, as a lot of her character surrounded her trying to measure up to Aang, whilie also trying to be her own person- a potential coentary on what making a follow up to atla must've been like.
Tumblr media
And also- we are JUMPING to conclusions over leaks and blurbs.
I think my main personal concerns with the Seven Havens lie with the fact that it feels like a soft reboot of sorts. With tlok, despite its technological advancements, which I did have issues with, we see very clearly how we got to point A to point B. The world Korra inhabits feels the same as the world Aang inhabits.
Seven Havens seems to have had a post apocalyptic vibe, where the world has changed drastically, reshaping the four nations into seven new 'havens' and changing the way the Avatar is percieved. It feels like a huge departure from the previous series - which could be fine- but also feels like waste.
The world of Avatar is so complex and has been built up through multiple series, books and comics. To have it reshaped completely feels like throwing out such a rich compendium of lore and stories.
It also worries me, as it likely throws away tlok's very imteresting work with politics. While tlok didn't always tackle the dissection if politics correctly, it at least had the courage to discuss these complex topics. Getting rid of the four nations will probably toss away a lot of these politocal effects of Korra's tenure as Avatar, for example- the democratisation of the Earth Kingdom.
Reading the atla comics (while the fandom loves to bitch and moan about them) is a satisfying experience, because I get to see the building blocks for Korra's time being set up- for example the creation of Republic City. However, my concern is that any future tlok comics will feel unimportant- due to the fact that the characters accomplishments will likely be undone several years later.
I also worry that they're going to try to 'depoliticise' the next show. Dismantling tloks' complex political climate is one alarm bell. Making the new avatar a young child, seemingly even younger than Aang, despite a good chunk of the fans being adults at this point, feels like its hinting towards making the show less complex and 'grown up'. Of course, a protagonist being a certain age doesn't necessarily mean the target audience is supposed to be that age too- however it does set a model of how the world will be mainly shown to us- through the eyes of a young child.
And while Avatar gave us a serious show for kids- atla being relatively deeper than most kids shows of its time, I don't know if Seven Havens will be able to replicate that perfect storm, especially with a lot of kids media nowadays being so heavily scrutinised and policed.
Tumblr media
Also not really as hyped for the earthbending twins concept because I already have MY preferred set of earthbending twins. "Oh but one of them is the Avatar and-" don't care. Beifong twins my belovedst.
They should've somehow kept the naming scheme set by Poi & Ping and Wei & Wing it would've been funny.
