Feeling weirdly nostalgic for early IDW today because I have a cold, which it's making everything have this weird smell and I guess I also had a cold last year when I started reading IDW because somehow the smell reminds me of it.

I kind of want to go back and read some of it to dwell on the nostalgia but my problem is I can't figure out which story/phase/era I'm nostalgic for. It's not Infiltration or The Transformers 2009 or anything after Dark Cybertron. Right now I'm thinking either somewhere in the Maximum Dinobots-All Hail Megatron era or maybe even early MTMTE. Might be both since I probably had a cold multiple times during reading since it gets pretty cold in here

Anybody know who it is that wrote this two part smau thing where reader / y/n and nanami are moved in together and they're trying to decide on furniture. I remember in the first part they're talking about the couch, Reader was specifically asking Nanami what he wanted bc, y'know, it's his house too. And he keeps being the type that's like "I'm fine with whatever you choose love". Eventually they mention getting a fluffy throw blanket and fluffier or more colorful cushions so it's not an absolute beige nightmare.

In the second part specifically, they have an interior designer (ID for short) come over and help them out. Nanami is at work while reader is home and is the one that receives the ID. Nanami forgot that they had scheduled a visit from ID so when he checks the front door camera and sees the dude come in then not leave until hours later, he thinks reader cheated bc they/we also didn't answer his texts for like an hour or more. When we reader finally texts nanami back he's like "I know everything, don't try to lie." And readers like "Tf!? That was our ID! You've been so busy with work that you forgot to check the calendar and instead accused me of something I wouldn't do! I'm literally over here trying to decorate our house!" To which he responds "that was today? I jumped to conclusions, I'm really sorry my love."

The person who made these two smau's also makes others that I think typically feature gojo, geto, choso, sukuna and toji I believe. They also do the same prompts in parts with different characters to not put a bunch on one post.

I was in the tumblr tf fandom for a hot second a few years ago and i just wanted to ask, is it still really aggressive here? because back then there was a lot of shipping drama, there were a few callout posts going around (can't really remember about what) and just...a lot of bad stuff. I personally had someone tell me to kill myself because I liked one of the villains. guess I'm just wondering if, in your opinion, things have chilled out? Cuz I'd like to get back into it but I'm a little hesitant;;;

I'm going to try and give the fullest answer I can in the best faith to this! For context, this blog is a couple years old now, I have enough followers that I get a lot of active engagement on my posts etc, I am very active in TF fandom here, Twitter, and IRL, and while I did not used to be active I have been lurking in TF fandom as long as I have been on Tumblr.

There is absolutely still some toxicity; all fandoms have their bad faith actors, their drama hounds, their shipping Diskhorsers TM. I have gotten hate mail, I know folks who have issue with weird anon haters who are persistent, whatever. But no, it is not as bad as it has been in the past, IMO, not at ALL, and it is 100% possible to have an active, sociable and nice time in this fandom so long as you curate your engagement, with basically no drama at all. Many of the worst folks burned out and left when the fandom got less active and their shitstirring paid lesser and lesser dividends, IME.

People sometimes ask how I maintain such a vocal presence without falling into the still-there drama, and I have some advice that I promise you will mitigate like, 99% of the possible issues you could encounter:

Block whenever you feel like blocking. If you get a bad vibe, if you just don't personally like someone and don't wanna see them, if you see them throwing what looks like a temper tantrum you don't want in on, just block 'em. Remember: blocking is nothing personal towards the person you are blocking. It is not insulting and doesn't need to be 'earned'. Block every single person you think not blocking might even just theoretically cause stress or drama. (I am blocked by several people for reasons no more serious than 'I hate your OTP', and I commend every one of them for doing it and having a better time on this site!)

Delete any and all anon hate. Block anyone and everyone who sends you hate. No exceptions. No witty comebacks. No takedowns. Nothing. You see it and the actual literal second you do, you block and delete. None of it is worth one second of your time. Deprived of the oxygen, they will leave. And you won't be tempted to re-read it and stress out.

In that same vein, if it causes issues, just turn anon off! Turn it off. Personally I keep it on because I simply do not care about the odd troll, but if you care even slightly? Fuck 'em, turn it off, anon is a privilege your followers need to earn by acting in good faith.

Find people you like and follow them, ignore blatant shitstirring in the maintags (again: block people!) and try to curate content and follows and mutuals based on what you do like and not what you don't. Curate positive engagement; do not rely on the general fandom slurry, find what you like and hang out in your own corner of things that bring you joy. If the maintag stresses you out: don't check it. Check the blogs of folks you know are cool instead. Stuff like that.

Fandom should be fun. Fandom should be finding people you like and sharing good times with them, not stressing about avoiding folks you hate, or who hate you. Tumblr lets you moderate how you engage, when, and where more than almost any current social media site; now you can even turn off reblogs and oh my GOD is that a lifesaver function btw. If you want, you can make your blog unsearchable! It means you will need to be more proactive in making friends. But TF fandom is pretty tight knit these days, and folks want to talk a lot of the time. You'll still be able to engage with cool people.

There's way less aggro losers around these days, but more to the point, you can absolutely avoid the ones that still insist on being annoying and starve them out without much effort, tbh.

If you don't mind, here are some incoherent thoughts about some of the Bois that came to my mind after reading around in your brilliant writing. You said you wouldn't mind my incoherent thoughts, so I thought I'd share them! (I'm still working on my incoherent Bad Batch thoughts, btw)

I want to hug Jesse. Like, he's hot as hell no questions asked, but I also just want to hug him. Like, a long hug. And tell him that he's loved and that he's enough and wonderful exactly as he is.

Also, I want to cook for all the clones, but these vibes are the strongest with Wrecker, and, for some reason, Hardcase and Fives.

Also, my ideal date is going to one of those public strawberry picking fields where you can just... walk around and fill your basket with strawberries, and afterwards go home and bake strawberry cake, and I'm going to drop that in this context.

Also I find it so interesting how non-commitical Rex actually is; like, who would've guessed that a guy with such a spit-death-in-the-face attitude on the battlefield would be so scared to let someone into his heart.

Also, I low-key wanna call Cody Marshall Commander, Sir and see what happens >:3

I haven't even consumed any Delta Squad material, but solely the writing on this blog made me love them all and (idk, maybe they've met in canon XD) I think Boss and Cody would get along.

And someone should tell Fixer to go tf to sleep, I'm sensing that he doesn't do that *nearly* enough.

Someone should also tell Kix that always putting others first and neglecting his own needs is not what being a good, compassionate person is about, and that he's worth it.

I could go on and on, damn, but lemme just say that your depiction of the Bois really helped shape a more 3-dimensional and rich picture of them in my head and that is awesome :)

"why are you even doing this", an Explanation TM

Here on this sideblog you will find a project I have been threatening to do on various social media platforms since 2019. Absolutely nobody asked for this, but you're getting it anyway!

As to what said project actually is, this is going to be an issue-by-issue reread of and retrospective on the 2002-2004 Transformers G1 comic series published by now-defunct publisher Dreamwave Productions. There's two main motivations behind this project: the first is simply that it's been over a decade now since I so much as glanced at any of these comics, and when I did initially take a look way back in 2009 and 2010, I didn't pay much attention to them at all. I'm extremely curious as to how they read in 2021, and that's simple enough.

For a more detailed explanation as to why I thought this very excessive project was inexplicably a good idea, as well as some details on how I'm going about it, check below the read more.

The second reason I wanted to do this is that since I got into Transformers all those years ago, the recognizability of Dreamwave as a part of Transformers fandom history has really decreased. When I got into the franchise it was around five years since Dreamwave had gone under as a comics publisher. I learned about it as a bit of very recent fandom drama pretty much immediately. Dreamwave's extremely ignoble end was a matter of absolute infamy in the fandom, and brought up pretty regularly. People made a lot of Pat Lee jokes and expected you to know what they meant without explanation.

Since the mid-2010s, however, I've noticed that's changed a lot; partly because it's much older news now than it used to be, of course, but also because the combined success of IDW, Bayverse, Transformers Animated and Transformers: Prime at bringing in completely new fans since then means a lot of people around these days just never heard those years-long injokes about That One Trashfire TM, and since these comics can't be re-printed these days, that means there's not really a lot of awareness of them. And since there are some places where Dreamwave has wound up being surprisingly influential, I think it's worth at least one re-visit.

There are a couple of things to answer before I get started on the actual project, so here's a quick list of them:

+ No, I'm not doing the Armada tie in comics that Dreamwave also did alongside their original take on G1. This is mostly just because I haven't done an Armada rewatch in a decade either and would need to do that first, I think. I actually own some of those though, like physical copies, so maybe one day. But for this, we're just doing their G1 comics, starting with the miniseries and then going into the short-lived ongoing.

+ I don't remember the actual content of these comics very well at all. I didn't much care about them when I first took a look back in the day. I just have vague recollections of the odd plot point and a general sense they were at times quite... strange. We can all (re)discover this together.

+ I am not going to give a schedule for this blog. I will post whenever I feel like it. Promising otherwise would end in hubris and disaster.

+ This blog is being run by me, @decepti-thots! If somehow you found this blog and not that one rather than the other way around... uhhh, now you know, I guess!

Before we get into the actual retrospectives, I'm going to write up a brief overview of pertinent stuff about Dreamwave as a publisher and their history with Transformers comics. It's not going to be a comprehensive overview, for the simple reason that there are already places you can go for that, and there's no point in me doing that instead of just linking you to TF Wiki's page on the topic. But we'll take a look at the basic context of where TF was at when these comics launched and what Dreamwave actually was before we get into the comic itself.

Also randomly: we finally got the feral cat as our cat.

He got into fight (with a raccoon?) so he caught him and brought him to vet and he was also neutered (which is why his ear is clipped). We brought him home and he vanished (it takes a month for hormones to go away so like. He still thought it need to wonder and get some ladies~'). He came back after getting into another fight. We finally got him and brought him to vet where they scrapped off scabs and he had hurt his leg. They said 'if it was us, we would be screaming in pain' so we have him in pain meds.

Anyway this is Charlie. He's sitting with my dad and making his cat jealous.

Please stay inside if u don't need to be outside. There's nurses and doctors and retail workers who can't stop working and would love for this crap to end. STAY INSIDE. I don't care if 'I'm bored I wanna go to the store' no! Go to store when u need to shop. Not 'cause u're bored.
