after realizing I’m autistic my whole life makes sense
#disclaimer that I am self diagnosed cuz I don’t have resources for an official diagnosis#but god damn#all the things I didn’t understand about myself or my life???? they make sense now#feeling like an outsider#not fully knowing how to connect with people#not understanding when someone isn’t my friend#the way I was socially ostracized but didn’t rly realize or understand why in my younger years#feelin unable to function so often#freaking out when things don’t go my way#unable to intuitively know how to do something without instructions#needing specific steps to complete things#so much constant overstimulation and anxiety and depression and symptoms we couldn’t find the source of#realizing I’m autistic#and using tips I’ve seen online#on how to manage symptoms and thrive as an autistic person#bad already changed my life#I know myself so much better now#how I function and why I feel the way I do#and how to treat myself well and how to look after myself when I’m struggling#I just rly wish I’d known younger#I went thru a lot of social trauma I’ve had to unpack that made me a bad friend for some time#I hurt a lot of people and i regret that#but I’m glad I know now#cuz understanding myself has also made me a better person#I’m kinder to others#and I’m kinder to myself#learning to understand autism outside of the stereotypical portrayals is so important#it’s made my life loads better
