the more i think about it the more angry i am getting over how much potential high guardian spice had for the rest of the story that we will never get to see because of the bigotry that crushed it.
like bro UGHHHH we could have had it all. i don’t even wanna talk about it bc the thing i wanna talk about is like THE spoiler of the entire thing. and i definitely recommend the show, as long as ur ready to be just as angry as i am that it will never be continued LMAO

Why do people don't like MCU's mary jane? I don't know much about spider man to understand
Swinging Bats at Hornet Nests and all that.
Anyway, short version and long version:
Short Version: That’s because there is no Mary Jane Watson in the MCU.
Detailed Version:
Back during before Homecoming came to be, Zendaya was rumored to have been chosen for the part of Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker’s most famous, if not THE most famous, love interest in the history of marvel comics.
This created a sort of... split opinions on the matter. There where those who didn’t trust Marvel, those who were questioning if she was going to look the role by dying her hair red, those who were hopeful given Zendaya’s previous work to give us a faithful Mary Jane Watson, the racists, the ones who keep wondering out loud about the lack of red head characters not being played by redheads in superhero movies and series, those who didn’t trust Zendaya to have the range, you know, the usual mixed lot.
I was cautious but hopeful. I knew that, with the right direction and characterization, she could have played Mary Jane Watson...
Then the spoilers came.
Zendaya DOESN’T play Mary Jane Watson. She plays Michelle (Jones) (Surname not even given in the OG movie), or MJ as she calls herself. She is NOTHING like the 616 Mary Jane Watson, and is in fact closer to 616 Gwen (already non existent) original characterization than actual Mary Jane Watson, here a loner nerd mot conventionally attractive who is the very antithesis of everything original Mary Jane was and is. She is a “Gotcha!” character, just there to have a last scene in the movie and go “LOL, Sup nerds, I am actually Mary Jane Watson, except I am not even called that and I am not a seemingly carefree party girl with trust issues and hidden depths due to a history of familial abuse and shit, i’m just a vitriolic nerd that is going to call Peter a shitty loser and expect him to fall in love with him because of that.”
Like, imagine if she ended the movie with “Oh, yeah, i’m Michelle (Wayne), but my friends call me Deadpool. Also the letter of my first name should be turned upside down for consistency’s sake,” she ends the movie and reveals she is the MCU Version of deadpool, no cancer, no powers, doesn’t kill people for a living, a somewhat better personality when it comes to interpersonal relationships, nothing like the Original Deadpool but at the same time Marvel Goons will defend this fucking idea to the very end, because, like, she is such a OC character that you can claim she is actually supposed to be based on ANYONE in the MCU and it wouldn’t change much (I’m partial to Kitty Pryde. She is, after all, I mean, didn’t they know each other in the ultimate universe? You know, the one where Blob vores the Wasp alive and kills her, pretty graphically That would make as much sense as this after all).
This is just one of the MANY mischaracterizations to the original source material (Like, you know, FLASH THOMPSON, the snotty academic rival, or the Miles Morales Uncle and Best Friend who are, somehow, there to help Peter Parker, Tony Stark’s protege and all that shit), but is however the one whom stings the most due to Marvel’s history of BULLSHIT regarding Mary Jane Watson, culminating right around the time of Homecoming when Talentless Hack and Scourge Upon Good Taste Dan Slott was, unfortunately, still in charge of the Spider-Man comics.
The fans wanted a bone to be thrown at them, after years of bullshit and marriages being sold to the devil and almost r*pes by villains taking controll of Peter’s Body and, just... Talentless Hackery and “i am walking out of your life Peter, it’s too dangerous and I can’t handle that or the fact you are spider-man, because how can I with my fragile womany willies handle this life of superheroing you have, you must fuck Bobbi Morse instead” and general sexism and that one time a fat man sat on top of Peter which stopped him from reaching his marriage in time and SHIT LIKE THAT, so when they hear Marvel not only is going to make a new spider-man movie, BUT that was also going to have a Spider-Man faithful to the source material (Hindsight shakes her head sadly), they were ecstatic, that maybe, this time, we were going to get some Mary Jane Watson Justice, finally, some good shit.
But Alas...

That’s why Zendaya’s character isn’t particularly liked, DESPITE it being a... OK character on her own (Still pretty debatable and depending on personal taste even that tho, she’s as fine as Ganke Ned in this context we could say, an OC that could be OK to have if we didn’t have already some of the best supporting cast for a superhero story in the history of comics to pick from), because she is supposed to be a character that is nothing like her character, yet at the same time can be used by FUCKS to bully Mary Jane Watson fans into submission because, you know, she’s THE REAL Mary Jane now, and marriage in story telling is boring anyway, so why shouldn't Peter be a globetrotting billionaire with a woman in every port and a Spider-Car?

Anyway, that was the detailed answer. That’s why Michelle Jones isn’t particularly liked, at least from my personal experience.
Probably forgot some minor shit.
