A chambered Nautilus can form up to 30 chambers during its lifetime. As it grows, it moves forward and creates a wall behind it, with the accumulated empty chambers left behind to be used for buoyancy. This Nautilus on @coty_spires has 26 chambers so far, with the first 5 residing deep within his navel and his memories.
