In 97 I was the baby face in the Y2K Management Planning Team at the local authority where I worked. I was the pleb on the team who actually "did stuff" and could therefore give input about what required IT and what didn't and what we could if it all fell over on midnight 31st, December, 1999.

In reality nothing happened because the worlds' IT specialists en masse worked their arses off to protect us.

And it worked. They solved a problem that could even then have brought so much to a grinding halt.

And got zero fucking thanks for it really.

Accused of making a mountain of a molehill when in reality they moved the entire mountain, teaspoon by teaspoon.

I just hope yesterday reminds the fuckwits in charge to do as their predecessors did and put fail safes, mechanical overrides and contingency plans in place for the day the IT doesn't fucking work so that next time they don't get smacked in the dick because they are overly reliant on Microsoft systems for everything from opening their fridge to running hospitals.

I just want you to know that I was rereading the PDMDZS comics yet again, and I finally caved and watched Legally Blonde because you're like a puppeteer that draws things and I'm like "well, guess I have to see it now." Now, after watching Legally Blonde, I must tell you that Elle Woods is love, Elle Woods is life, Elle Woods is everything to me. Elle Woods would have been able to save Wei Wuxian from the Jins all while looking sparkly and fantastic as she does it. (Obviously with her hype girlies in the background)

Uhh I'm sure this is a hot hot take in this fandom, but I personally don't find the whole moon!Varian theory/idea very interesting in terms of narrative or character.

Varian's always worked best as this scrappy kid who used his intellect to solve problems but whose emotions got in the way of that. He's so desperate to impress Raps and the gang that he neglects his giant boiling water tank and almost blows up the village. His emotions towards Cass are what get him running around helping her until the last minute, making his science presentation a disaster. His need to please his father and later his hurt/distrust towards him is what leads him to recklessly experiment with the rocks behind Quirin's back.

This is also probably why he's drastically more competent as a villain, up until the end. He puts aside his emotions in favor of cold, ruthless tactics, and it's only when his emotions once again get the best of him that he's defeated. Varian's intellect has always been his strength, but his emotional immaturity and volatility is what got him to fail.

So then you give a character like that magic power that has all to do with emotions, it doesn't work. There's no reason to show off his intelligence or persevearance, because the rocks are a physical manifestation of power. And while he goes on this journey of growing up and gaining emotional maturity in season 3, he's never in a struggle with his emotions, if anything, he lets them have control more often than not.

Now compare that to Cass, who a) solves problems physically, so the rocks are a perfect extension of that power and b) fucking sucks at emotions. While Varian acts on his emotions constantly, she stuffs them in a box and relies on her anger instead.

Moon!Cass works because the power set it gives her works for her character. It doesn't work for every character, and especially not Varian.

I think one of the many elements that makes Bowser's army so much more of a threat in the movie vs the games is that everyone physically capable of carrying a weapon is actually armed.

Every one of these guys is willing, able, and equipped to stab (or bludgeon if that's their area of expertise.)

Tbh S3 would have been interesting and better even if everything was the same except the secret base under Starcourt was American. Like scoops troop still picks up a Russian transmission and translate it, but they get down there, and it's Americans. The code was in Russian as another layer of description and to deflect responsibility. But it's still the American government fucking around with the Upside Down, capturing and torturing kids under a mall. Alexei is a Soviet defector working for the Americans. The big Terminator guy is just a silent American hitman. It's all still a government conspiracy.

honestly cant stand how technically important demise is and yet how he doesnt actually matter or exist in peoples minds as a character, the only thing that matters is his stupid "curse" thing and its the only thing why he will ever be brought up, theres never really any thought around him that isnt related to the "cuuuurse", otherwise he basically doesnt exist in the fandom

to some extent its understandable given how little he actually is in the game but it still makes me sad and a little frustrated imo he shouldnt be treated like soemthing so unimportant given hes involved with the literal start of the timeline

and worst of all is how he and ganondorf make each other worse, like their link is completely deniable yet its like more often than not treated like gan is to demise what zelda is to hylia, but even that isnt used interestingly no, its only ever to write off gan as "well, hes just a demon, demons need no motives or character, they are jsut evil" WHICH IS SO BORING, and people will be HAPPY about that??? they go yippie gan is jsut an evil demon yaaay like the fuck???

demise specifically is just a sore spot for me since hes my blorbo, and the way even gan fans hate him for introducing the "cuuurse" thing just makes it hurt doubly, i get why, still its just so .. man i wish BOTH gan and demise were allowed to be characters, at least gan was a character at some point, demise has nothing ;__;
