yuuta exhibits such previously abandoned, recently adopted dog behavior. incredibly anxious all the time, even though nobody’s out to get him or leave him behind. waits for you to return home or from school or from work excitedly, just to see you when you walk through the door. follows you around senselessly, hovering in your space just for the sake of companionship. initiates affection in prodding ways—starts off next to you, then a hand on your thigh, then deems it safe to lay all the way down, then slowly pushes his head into your lap. gets up whenever you need to get up, and resumes his position as soon as you’re ready. brings you gifts as a sign that he’s thinking of you, and maybe because he likes the affection it brings out in you, maybe because he likes the gentle affirming touches of a hand in his hair or a pinch to his cheek. rests his head on your stomach or his chin on your shoulder when he’s sleepy, stays there, immobile, and will not move unless absolutely necessary. sometimes he gets surprised when he hears you calling for him, there’s a moment of disbelief as he thinks “me? really? you need me?” but it’s very quickly overshadowed by this compulsive need to show up, to please, to do anything for you, which is why he always answers when you call. he doesn’t realize that he has puppygod eyes, especially when he’s excited or confused, but he does and it’s incredible endearing. very reluctant to share your space or attention after a while, considers that to be sacred and he won’t risk being let go or lost again, so as a safety precaution, he keeps himself right by you, waits for you always.

I'm once again thinking about the missed opportunities to have Klaus and Kol bond more. Part of Klaus' whole motivation as a vampire is to get his werewolf part back and to finally be stronger than Mikael (sort of, I'm simplifying) both of which can be obtained by breaking his curse. But Kol? Kol is the only other original that can relate to having a fundamental part of themself ripped away from them. Klaus might not have known he was a werewolf until he killed, but he likely still had a connection he couldn't explain, as evident by him going to watch the wolves transform. And something he'd never been able to explain was now gone. He might only be able to realise the connection afterwards through its absence.

Kol though. Kol had grown up with magic, a connection to nature and the world around him in a way the rest of his siblings supposedly didn't have. And then he gets turned. And not only has his baby brother died, his father has just murdered him and the rest of his siblings after forcing them to drink human blood, which he'll later learn. Now, not only does he have to deal with the grief of Henrik's death and also his own but also the loss of his magic. A loss that's likely only worsened by Kol being a self-proclaimed child prodigy.

Kol is pretty much the only one who could understand what Klaus is going through with the binding of his wolf. We know Kol searched for ways to get his magic back/carry on practicing magic in the same way that Klaus was looking for ways to break his curse. While Klaus likely could still feel his wolf there despite being bound, Kol has no access to his magic anymore. I just think they should've been able to bond or connect over their shared loss of an intrinsic aspect of their selves at the hands of their parents

while it's not a direct "thing" they're dealing with, it does have wider repercussions for the mainline phd-verse fics (tpac -> hlwi -> tpil), in which you'll only get hints of from everyone's pov bc limited perspectives

@jynxd cont. from here. Jinx collected nicknames just as much as she picked up a body count. Had been doing so her entire life, either by those she was sent to take or those she'd killed. Her reputation, after all proceeded her, after all. Silco's volatile and unstable lapdog. It was what they all called her, alongside any other derogatory names. Even the people she worked with, the ones who worked so loyally at Silco's side would gossip about her. "Oh she's just his little pet." They said. "Someday he'll get bored of her and throw her out." They also said, knowing she could hear their whispers. Could see the way they looked at her. A small part of her was paranoid, though. That she would outgrow her usefulness and he would just leave her... like VI did. The very thought made her clench her fists. No, he wouldn't. Not after that. Not after she'd dedicated everything to him. She owed him her life. He loved her. Loved her enough to give her a nickname she was proud of. "My little predator." She smiled at that as she sat on his lap and rested her head against his chest. Tears rolling down her face and onto his vest. "Proudly your little predator...and will be again and again."

She had been feeling bad again. Over the many years, Silco had grown increasingly better at picking up his daughter's volatile mood swings. From a glance, he could tell if she was happy, excited or sulking about something. And even though she had always been a very touch-starved individual and a huge hugger, even when she was a little girl, there was a difference between her cuddling him when she was happy and her needing comfort when she was sad.

Today was a case of comfort cuddles. Silco had pushed his chair a bit backwards so that Jinx had all the space, she needed on his lap. Despite being a fully grown woman by now, she was remarkably light. Her body snuggled against his chest and tears soaked through his vest. Jinx had made herself small, even as his arms had wrapped around her. One of his hands rested between her shoulder blades, simply holding her, while the other one caressed her scalp before it went over one of her braids all the way to its end. That same hand would then return back to her scalp and the game would start again.

The Eye of Zaun had been whispering unintelligible words of comfort throughout it all. The only words, Jinx seemed to have chosen to clearly pick up on, was the term of endearment, he had given her back when her monster had only just discovered it had claws and fangs. "My little predator." Upon hearing that word, Jinx immediately calmed down, yet also cried that much harder from relief.

"I know", Silco said as Jinx reassured him that she would be his monster time and time again, "I have never doubted it." He halted in his caress of her braids and lifted her chin up. His thumb traced her cheek and wiped away one of her tears. "Has someone said something bad again? I told Sevika to tell the others to watch their mouths around you."
