Did I catch your attention? Yes? good because that means I did something right. There's important information down here and my own views. Scroll down. You won't regret it.

To keep it simple, writing fanfiction is harmless in itself. Just do some research on the characters AND the fandom first before publishing a fanfiction. Because if the character is tied to real life people (like the characters from Billie Bust Up), then you might want to tread carefully.

I love writing fanfiction. I really do. But what is important is being mindful of who is shipping who. Because different fandoms have different unspoken rules. The universal one is always research first. Another universal one is that pro shipping can be seen as a sort of pedophilia.

Billie Bust Up has a hidden rule: do not change sexualities of a character to fit your narrative. Why?

Let me explain.

You all know Sonadow/Destiel. Or some ship like that. These are written by fans for fans and they are treated differently than the Billie Bust Up fanfics because they follow a criteria. Each criteria depends on the fan.

Billie Bust Up is a little "stricter" because those characters actually have direct ties to the devs of Billie Bust Up. The devs don't pick the characters sexualities for lols. They tie to real world people.

By shipping Barnaby and Billie together, you are (unintentionally or intentionally, depending on how you plan on changing)... you are essentially calling the devs MAPs and also saying that they don't matter despite the fact that without them Billie Bust Up would not even EXIST.

And by shipping Billie with anyone, you are indirectly slapping an aroace dev in the face and being rude. Because Billie is aroace. Hate breaking it to you. I think it was Katie who is aroace... And this is where YOU DO RESEARCH. Same rule applies to Barnaby (since he is ace, homoromantic and gender fluid).

Research the aroace experience. Research queer platonic relationships. Research Billie Bust Up. Research the LGBTQ community and how to write them. If you are in an unsafe household for that discussion, I got an ace up the sleeve (pun intended): Incognito mode (or private mode).

I think you needed to hear this from me. Because if you're a teenager, then I personally don't think you should be yelled at, but you could use a nudge and guidance. So, those of us who are adults in the Billie Bust Up fandom, let's educate the young ones. GENTLY, though. Their brains are developing!

Feel free to tag any minors who shipped Billie with anyone.

So have fun, but be courteous. I'm going to have to edit Chapter 21 of Death and Autism (and I plan on making quality of life edits in the very near future).

I'm personally not a fan of Sonadow, but you comic looks so good that I'm willing to swallow my dislike for the ship and stick around if things aren't gonna get to "involved."

I just have a question, you have said that sonic and shadow from happy auau are not in a romantic relationship (and that is fair) but they are something and I am getting confused with it cause what you are saying, from my point of view anyways, it that they are in a queer-platonic relationship. Shadow says they aren't friends, Sonic would just shrug, he's learned to roll with whatever shadow thinks about their relationship since it doesn't really need words to him. But they know each other on a deep level, where to consistently find each other in the world, they know what the other is thinking constantly and they know to start arguments before the other has even said anything fhfbfbfb.

They may have kissed a few times over 5 centuries. But you can't prove that

Writing canon-compliant Sonadow is actually so difficult

In my heart of hearts they are a queer-platonic couple so like. Writing or drawing them being overtly romantic feels so off 😩 It's easier with Sonknux for me because of Knuckles' and Sonic's personalities? But Sonic is still very much in the aroace category for me, and so is Shadow. I feel like I'm smacking two pieces of chalk together and making something tangible out of the dust

idek what i could talk abt bc at the same times theres a LOT but also, despite me being mostly caught up game lore wise, i still dont feel like i have a good enough understanding of the characters, i'll probably only feel that when im caught up w the comics. which,,, will take me a good while to get through (just the archie comics are like over 500 issues long lol)

BUT. hmm what could i say that doesnt really require much prior knowledge...

ig, as every ship i ever ship, i see them more as queer platonic, sonic gives me the strongest aroace vibes, so i feel like his love for shadow wouldnt take a much different shape than his love for his other friends. but their connection goes a lil further to me, bc, when it comes to certain stuff, i feel like they're the only ones who can understand each other. and shadow... my dearest little guy... he represses a lot. his life experience wasnt. the best. i dont think he got that many opportunities to explore his own emotions, he probably cant even name a bunch of his emotions, its just easier to lash out, thats smth he's used to. he knows violence, it feels safer, he knows that dance.

and its because sonic has his fair share of violent background (aka, took up the role of a hero since he was way too young) that i feel like he is one of the few who can read shadow much easier than anyone else. hell, sonic himself is kinda knee deep in some repression (in my own understanding of his character). obvs most of this is bc its a franchise that targets kids, they wont get wild w the angst, but my boy sonic be out there fighting all the time and takes on a responsibility that shouldnt be his, the consequences of his actions can be catastrophic sometimes (once again asking everyone to watch sonic prime <3333 so much angst potential, im not normal abt it), and even when things go wrong, he jut smiles and powers through it. just think this for a second. god. imagine the amount of times he pushed himself beyond his limitations for the sake of others, how many times he pretended to be fine....

and yet. despite all that, they are terrible with communicating to each other, so things get physical often (as in fighting, not sexual, which makes it even gayer to me <3), and sigh. not surprising. put two stupid traumatised hogs in the same room and they'll either zoom around trying to race each other or they'll try to tear each others throat bc they just cant be normal together. ig thats how they communicate, go figures lol

my thoughts are all over the place atm so its hard to make this coherent <- my thoughts abt them are usually just violently screaming and sobbing. im sooo normal abt them. cant get much deeper than this without getting into the Lore, but yeah, ig this is smth

and oh, abt fanfics, hmmm i dont have that many that you could read without any background, but i did just finish this one shots collection thats very sweet and pretty chill to read without much prior knowledge, its mostly just a bunch of fluffy sick fics and them exploring their own feelings.

Ill have to check lmao) but its more queer platonic at best and it can just be read either way, thats got more focus on all of team sonic and team dark as they sorta just hang out and get to know each other more
