The “Unstoppable” trailer for Sonic’s 30th anniversary showing a 2 second clip of Sonic running that’s never been seen before and the wild guessing about what it was

Some people thought it was for a new game, others thought it was for the Sonic Colors remake that was leaked earlier, and some thought it was for an Adventure remake

The first teaser giving us zero context for anything about the game, only showing Sonic running through a forest with some cool particle effects and some random symbols

Everyone clamoring to figure out what the symbols meant, some saying it looked like the word “up,” some saying it looked like the word “zap,” and still others joking that it was shaped like a gun

“Shadow the Hedgehog 2” trending on twitter for some reason

People datamining the video and finding text that read “PS/Rangers” and “Time_Warp_sfx”

“Well you see if you rotate the symbols like this, they look like they could be a part of a Sonic Rangers logo”

All of this happening on the same day

Another round of mostly-dead silence and rumors before the absolute eruption in June of 2022

Day One: we get 7 minutes of Sonic running around the first island aimlessly and most people on YouTube tear it apart. Day Two: we get another six minutes of Sonic fighting random enemies for a while, and YouTube is slowly starting to warm up to it. Day Three(?): we get an early review for the game from IGN, and to many people’s surprise, it’s quite positive.

Day ???: A Nintendo Direct gives us the first actually well-marketed trailer for the game so far and public reception is going way up as more people are realizing just how much previous marketing was affecting the game’s perception

The return of “it’s GOTTA be good or else Sonic will die” only with even more fear after Forces

Like genuinely I cannot emphasize enough the amount of people wanting to be hyped but being held back by intense dread because of Forces (and other 2010s games usually)

The uproar over them reusing the Forces model for Sonic

“Sonic of the Colossus” jokes

The hype reaching a breaking point as we finally get a story-based trailer; people were losing their minds over big things like the new villain and Sonic’s arm glitching out, along with small things like Sonic actually using his eyebrows to emote in-game for the first time since approximately 2008

Theorists bursting at the seams with all the new content, Sonamy fans also bursting at the seams because those two haven’t meaningfully interacted in a While, people being terrified for Tails because at this point we’ve only seen Amy and Knuckles

The “Assimilated Sonic” trend, where people drew all sorts of interpretations for what would happen if the corruption on Sonic’s arm spread to the rest of him

The evolution of the Assimilated Sonic trend, where upon finding out you can go Super Sonic early in the game, people made designs for a potential new, stronger form (with varying degrees of glitchy aesthetics)

People tearing apart the cyberspace stages by pointing out reused level design (not just locations, though they also didn’t like that)

Everyone loving the ending theme “Vandalize” but the mixed reactions involved when people found out there was an explicit version (not used in the game itself of course)

“Can we have a Chao Garden this time?” “No. Have a Koco.” “...can we have a Koco Garden then–” “NO”

Tailstube being relevant on at least one occasion, possibly two

The prologue comic being posted in two parts despite very obviously being a single chapter

The prologue animation being posted a week before release and everyone collectively screaming “KNUCKLES!!!” and “NEW LORE???”

A few people getting their hands on it pretty much the next day and creating a whole new swarm of leaks for people to avoid (I heard one guy was even streaming it on twitch but I can’t confirm this)

And finally, it being released a day before God of War: Ragnarok and thus creating new friendly competition, in a similar vein to last time with Mario Odyssey

Edit: People were also very excited about the Big fishing minigame, but more importantly, we were CONVINCED that Sonic and/or his friends were going to have amnesia as a major part of the plot so a lot of pre-release content was about that specifically

The reason for this was that someone found, I believe it was a set of pitches for Sonic games, and the one that seemed the most like Frontiers mentioned Sonic having amnesia - not to mention the fact you collect things called "Memory Tokens" in the game to save Sonic's friends

I meant to translate this from Spanish a while ago, and since now I’m in a fully SonAmy mood might as well do it.

We came up with a little side-quest story idea for Sonic Rangers, and that includes our favorite emotional support hedgehogs meeting up and having a small adventure together.

Picture this: the open world of Sonic Rangers includes many opportunities for Sonic to run into his friends and maybe help them in character-driven quest chains, not unlike games such as The Witcher 3 or even the Yakuza series and their substories. In this particular encounter, Sonic runs into Amy in the forest, planning something.

There’s a big Eggman-controlled robot blockade set up just outside the main city zone of the map, and Amy wants to take it down before Eggman can deploy more forces and invade the city for good. Sonic can agree to help her beat some robot butt and together they stage an attack on the robots, adding some charming dialogue and a bit of teasing as they execute Amy’s plan.

After cleaning up the blockade, Amy asks Sonic if he could escort her to check if anyone in the city needs help, and the player has the option to accept the request or decline it and end the quest there. If the player accepts, they will return to gameplay and run to the city.

What Sonic didn’t notice until he was in there is that there’s a massive theme park, bigger and better than Twinkle Park will ever be, and that this whole quest could have been something Amy planned all along just to go on a date. Sonic’s suspicions seem to be confirmed as soon as Amy suggests they could check out the park, since they’re already there. The player once again has the option to accept or decline, and if they accept, a sequence like SA1 Twinkle Park will play out, but with a lot more fun dialogue involved.

After roaming up and down and all around the park, Sonic is about to call it quits since it wasn’t on his plans to go so far out of his way, but right in that moment a big Eggman robot lands in the park, forcing Sonic and Amy to fight this mini-boss together.

At the end, Amy remarks how this was probably one of the best dates she’s ever had in her life and Sonic, while still a bit upset at Amy for leading him into all this thing, low-key admits he had more fun today than he anticipated, and soon the two of them separate... until next time.

The beauty of these types of sidequests would focus on: 1) having some quality character interactions that don’t really tie into the main narrative (”loyalty quests” could still be a requisite to reach the “best ending” though); 2) add more meaningful side content for the player to explore; 3) share a spotlight on other secondary characters (imagine running into quests for Silver, Big, even the Chaotix.) Of course this is all fanfiction-y and not a real Rangers proposal or anything, but my friends and I had a lot of fun coming up with this stuff :P

- Kendrix: Ben & Jora's daughter from at least two varied timelines; was born with a different element of Life and was a pretty selfish person before her redemption arc. Not shipped with anyone at all.

- Myra Hopewell (GenRex): EVO who has technical control over her own nanites esp. water. Rex's love interest.

- Noelani (Sonic the hedgehog): Orphan from the lower class part of Station Square who became an errand girl to make ends meet. Eventually Sonic&co brought much needed joy in her life; Sonic's love interest plz sonally & sonamy fans dont kill me!

- Rosslyn Smith & Penny Paine (Alpha Teens On Machines): Rosslyn is the down-to-earth medic of the team & Penny is the preteen rebel with a good heart. Ross is Axel Manning's love interest and Penny is notn shipped with anyone.

- Kaysha Wallace (TMNT): Bubbly teenager who works amd studies to be taken as a serious kunoichi & opposes the Purple Dragons; Leo's love interest.

- Vanessa Marbles-Whittaker (Adventures in Odyssey): former nun turned artist/amateur sleuth who works at Whit's End; Jason Whittaker's love interest.

- Nicola Holden (DC): Protector of her working class neighborhood & "Lady of Light" in Gotham; also likes to "break the fourth wall", Bruce Wayne's love interest

- Maria Sanchez (Zordon Era Power Rangers): Purple MMPR and ACTUAL teenager with attitude and who jumpstarted the family tradition of joining Ranger teams; Jason Lee Scott's love interest

- Mikayla Jordan (Loonatics): Long lost princess of Freleng, former delinquent who turns her life around by joining the team as its "blue" member; Ace Bunny's love interest.

- Piper, Jetta, Odette & Rhea (Ninjago) + Padma (Monkie Kid): Piper is a chi expert, Jetta is the loner & weapons expert, Odette is the Elemental Master of Love & former gang member, and Rhea is a ballet dancer& the team's moral support. Rhea is shipped with Cole, Jetta is with Zane, and Piper is with Kai; Lloyd and Odette are also a thing.

- Eureka Jones (Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons): Guardian of Music, joins the other guardians on her quest to revive Mother Nature. Shipped with Jack Frost.

They have the potential to work really well together because the balance each other’s personalities and senses out (Shads bringing a sense of realism and Sonic bringing a lightheartedness) and neither has to worry about the other getting into trouble/hurt/being used against them because they’re both extremely capable of handling themselves. The difference between them and a ship like Mchanzo though is that they’ve already previously worked together and interacted on multiple occasions.

Following up from my last Rangers post, this is the bit I decided to cut due to it being more AU-ish and with shipping elements that I thought could distract from the main bulk of that post: 

After the first post, I kept thinking about this big idea of the “seven Rangers” in charge of protecting the Master Emerald (and probably even the seven Chaos Emeralds, since some lore findings would conflict with my initial proposal); the seven guardians, the original “servers”. I actually liked the idea that the seven Rangers could be ancient versions of hedgehogs we know today, like Sonic, Amy, Silver and even Shadow (although this could be tricky due to his peculiar origin... but even then his lore situation is a clusterfuck that imho needs some additional clarifying or straight-up cleaning.) 

Them being part of this “elite guard” reminded me a bit of the Dragonguard in The Dragon Prince (been a long while since I last mentioned that show here), and Rayla’s parents being the last line of defense between Viren and the dragon egg sparked a little idea on my mind:

Sonic and Amy (in reality, their ancient Ranger versions that look like them.) The last guardians, the last of the seven Rangers, ready to take the sacrifice that will restore peace and balance to the world. There’s nothing else that can be done, the world is on the brink of destruction, the Chaos Energy and the Master Emerald are in extreme danger. Only the hearts filled with nothing but pure good intentions can undo the corruption, and the Rangers were chosen exactly because of their hearts, that’s why they were trusted with that job. 

Now they are ready to do what it takes... together.

Not only me, the fandom is super dry! I swear, I take a peek at the SonAmy tag every once in a while and it's nowhere near as busy as it used to be. Come, anon, let's cope together.

Personally I'm feeling a bit burned out with the Sonic series as a whole after these past few weeks of absolute chaos, and some of my closest friends here also agreed on collectively moving to other fandoms to chill for a bit. There's also the fact all the future major sources of SonAmy discussion and inspiration, mainly Prime and Rangers, are still so far away! I tried writing some Rangers!SonAmy, but right now it's super hard to get a solid idea of what that world is going to be like with only 30 seconds of a CGI teaser.

So, yeah, SonAmy content is lacking right now, and the drought is certainly going to continue. Amy's birthday is coming in a couple of weeks but I don't know if I'll end my next story before that. Still, over at our little lovely Spanish Discord server (el mismo que está en mi post destacado e.e) we get SonAmy updates pretty much every day, thanks to lovely people like @waywardcollectionchai and more bringing to our attention the latest going on with the ship, so it's not like I'm entirely out of the fandom haha

Anyway, I think I teased you about that one project I was working on. Would you like to read some very, very early bits? It's a short story about Sonic being strangely absent from Amy's birthday party, and his mysterious motivations that supposedly led him back to Little Planet, the place where it all began:

Amy grabbed her backpack, her hammer and opened the front door of her house. Tails followed right behind, and then walked to his plane.

Tails climbed inside the cockpit, and before starting the engine he looked down at her. "If you see anything suspicious, call me and I'll be there as fast as I can, okay?"

"It's okay, Tails!" Amy raised a thumbs up, "I'll call you if something ugly happens, you focus on getting everything ready for the night, I'm sure Sonic and I will be back real soon!"

The two nodded, and immediately set off in opposite directions.

[I'm gonna throw another small timeskip here, the lead up to Little Planet isn't complete]

Amy landed on Palmtree Panic, and was completely mesmerised by the beautiful vibrant mix of nature and technology coexisting together in harmony. The half-circuitry, half-nature palmtrees, the flowers raised from previously defeated robots, the cristaline river in front of the taller peaks of the region, the Good Future Sonic fought through time and space to reach was already here, in present form.

"My Sonic radar tells me he's here, that's for sure" Amy thought to herself, "but WHERE exactly are you, Sonic? And why here, of all places?"

After looking around aimlessly, Amy decided to go closer to the river separating the palmtree hills from the mountain region. She then started following the river, probably heading east, or whatever east is like in this planet floating so close to home!

Following the river, Amy slowly got closer and closer to Collision Chaos. As she entered the bright blue pinball zone, her body started to shiver. That was the place Metal Sonic took her away, one hell of a first impression! Even after all this time, the sole thought of that moment frightened her.

[Another incomplete time skip coming, this time leading up to Stardust Speedway]

The loud musical city slowly showed itself as Amy walked up the hill. The river marked the city limits, but just before that last frontier a single flower stood in the middle of the open field. The grass surrounding it was sparsely burned, showing signs of fighting.

Two blue flashes of light raced past that flower. The leading figure jumped right before a cliff wall, leading the second figure to crash into it with a force that shook the entire place like an earthquake.

The other figure landed perfectly on the grass, revealing to be none other than Sonic the Hedgehog.

He turned around to check the flower, "how many times do I have to tell you? Do NOT touch the flower! Seriously, Metal, do I have to hardcode that into metallic skull?"

In the process he noticed Amy, standing with her arms crossed.

"Having fun, Sonic? Should've told me my birthday gift was a fight with Metal!"

"Oh, hey Amy! Heh, if I knew I would be fighting for so long, I would've called you hours ago. It's not like I need backup, but..."

Sonic immediately noticed Doctor Eggman silently approaching the flower with the laser from his Eggmobile ready.

"Oh no you don't!"

Aaaaaand I think I showed you enough already. Again, I don't know if I'll get it ready before September 23, but I promise it's going to be a fun little time. This time I'm trying to stay away from stuff like kisses and tsundere Sonic, buuut I still want to throw in all the regular SonAmy fluff. Anyway, imma head out, dear anon!
