new year, new angst
happy new years yall, if there is information that i never dropped here its the fact that im highly biased towards vertin and sonetto's relationship and i feel like i should drop a little scenario i wrote for the sake of it. its how i celebrate as an angst dweller :)
questions and questions. - A.D.
I didn't understand back then. I did not see you much after the incident, after Ms. Z had brought you back from the outside, drenched in rain. I would have gone to you if it were not for the guards that swarmed you both. You were the only one that came back. Why? Where did the others go? Did something happen to them? To you? What did you see in the outside?
I got the answer to my first few questions the following morning. When you came back, you did not talk for days; Did the things you would normally avoid. It was unlike of you, and I could not tell at that time if I felt relief or remorse. You didn't come up to me until the last night we saw each other up close.
On the night you left, you asked me to fix your hair, which was also an odd request. You normally didn't like doing this, but didn't exactly hate it either. (Perhaps I noticed too late that the reason you didn't hate it was because I was the one doing them.) I helped tie it into that rough and messy half-bun you only began to warm up to; I know you did, as it was the only way you could ever really stay still. You would talk about the frogs and the bugs you found near George the Oak, but you didn't. Not that night. Not in a time of wounds forced to be left unrefined by the white hands. When I made sure that the half-bun looked like the flowers you drew on your papers, you got off my bed and left with most of your things.
Why did you have to leave the dorm in such haste? Even left the toffees and pebbles on your night desk. I kept it for you when I thought you'd come back sooner. The frog was here, too. It croaked and whistled, jumping around the dorm and scaring the other girls. Then the janitor took it out the day after you left. And eventually I hid away the pebbles, ate the toffees. I accepted that I wouldn't feel the warmth of rough hands, showing me pieces of the outside for a long time to come.
There were no answers to the rest of my questions until graduation, and I saw you for the first time in a while. Your hair is fully tied to a side bun, the tiny freckles had faded, your hands rested on the hat on your lap. You wore an intricate suit that even I would have never guessed fitted you. You stood out amongst the black and white crowd as an indigo pawn. You looked far older, mature for our age; As if you had graduated years before. But I still saw the softness in your face, the baby face still made you look like the reckless child you were long ago. You looked…elegant and mysterious. Were you the same deskmate I grew up with all these years?
You graduated with us. A "special student'" like the principal called you once. They announced that you had become the first "Timekeeper" in the Foundation, a title of reverence and importance. You tipped your hat forward and placed your closed fist on your chest, finally speaking. "May the peace be with us." Those were the first words I heard in your low, gentle, and firm voice.
After that, you disappeared. Worked diligently, but left no trace around the Foundation until you came back to report weekly. We never spoke to each other until that fateful week in London, and the time that passed after that. Back then I did not understand what that title meant, but I do now. It sparked new questions full of wonder. And that wonder came with its concerns.
What did you really see outside? In the "Storm"? How much more did you lose? What will it take to break from the weight of the world on your shoulders? When will you realize it's okay to be vulnerable again?
More and more questions arise the more you shroud yourself into melancholic mystery. Perhaps, as time passes, all these will be answered and land into place.
But for now, I just want to spend more time with you, and rebuild what we lost. Make up for what could've been and discover new things together again.

After a year, how the suitcase is.
youtube
A peek into how the suitcase is by our wonderful reporter Regulus.
It's cannon. Mr Apple and Lilya have drinks together and he seems to be the one to get intoxicated quite easily.
Vertin places people associated with one another close by, and Reg alongside Medicine Pocket frequently blasts music in their rooms much to X's annoyance.
Regulus going silent and cutting off the cam once she receives Sotheby's gift is hilarious. (that being said, how would cheques work considering the whole back in time stuff?)
Aww noo, Sonetto knows that she appreciates and loves the suitcase but can't truly accept this appreciation as she thinks that she's taking Vertin's quality of life improvements to the suitcase for granted. No wait. is that why she goes out of her way to show immense amounts of gratitude for her? Is that why she has to 'make it up' for Vertin? Through the missions she has to show her upmost resourcefulness and contribution to the Timekeeper by performing beyond what's mandated? Just like in Chpt. 5 when she felt as if she didn't perform well enough or perhaps even useless when unable to respond to the Island's questioning on her trial and had to be 'rescued' by the Timekeeper and 37? It ties back to her own belief that something is only deemed as valuable and worthy if they are proved to be useful to other parties in some way (Foundation indoctrination). Bluepoch please you can't keep doing this I'm going to melt and pass away.

I like how the game shows us that Schneider -in her death; has become a permanent mark in just not Vertin but also Sonetto's life. The different way they grief her death. Vertin confront their enemies and spat out her rage. Sonetto demands justice in the court (dikke would approve), not just for Schneider but her whole family (it made me wonder what schneider would say if she saw this scene maybe something like, "the way you defend my family would move even my stone cold heart, old woman")
And another thing i would like to point out,
Tumblr media
Sonetto!! Consider her!! As a friend!!
They hadn't met for long and they hadn't get on the best foot but i think they could have had developed a strong bond given time
Bluepoch know they would be unstoppable as a trio

Theorising 2.8: Paradise Regrained with new info from the PV and livestream
And the Wheel is the Key Theory
(CN spoilers for 2.6, 2.7 in bound! Not Global Friendly)
This part will focus on main story lore and implications - I will look at the playables later.
Tumblr media
Ok: new Manus Apostle Im assuming speaking to Ms Grace, wonder who is the traitor she seems to be referring to. Right now, we know there is a Foundation spy in the Manus, and a Manus spy in the Foundation. And currently alot of speculation surrouding Ms Grace is that she is Moth working for the Foundation, so maybe the Apostle is referring to Ms Grace herself and asking why would you serve the Foundation still after everything, or making a grand statement about the Manus mole, or even referring to the Zeno traitors under Igor?
We know form 2.4 Ms Grace when she's in power carries a level of confidence and smirking, however I think this shot alone shows she is potentially below or serves under this lady .
Tumblr media
It seems this is the "next time" Sophia refers to back in 1.9, the showdown between her and Sonetto. Her question about her "purpose" then: referring to how she blindly follows the Foundation or blindly follows Vertin without any second thought. My hope is that this patch will drive into Sonetto's unwavering loyalty and begin to completely break it down, either way I would love to see these two finally face off in a battle (maybe another Sophia boss battle?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alr briefly talking about the playables here. So it seems at some point the Zeno traitors managed to kidnapp Ulrich at some point, Im assuming the person holding Ulrich is Poltemy, note the brown coat and black gloves. In the next shot shes just holding his head, in the same helicopter and now accompanied by Buddy Fairchild whose not in frame for this screenshot - does this seem she bretrays Igor early on in the patch and teams up with Ulrich and Buddy? Im interested in what role both her and the Zeno soliders with Igor will play in the revival ritual.
Wondering why exactly Ulrich is the one being kidnapped? Is it related to his experiments and project he was doing in 2.4?
Tumblr media
Next bit: Seems to be either a member of Naukita's team being taken by whatever Manus influence is present on the continent, or this is a Zeno member being taken. Why Zeno? Moldir's I2 reminds me of this outfit so I speculate this is a Zeno member - then again hard to say.
Tumblr media
Ok onto the good shit.
This is definitely Vertin screaming, full on panic "shits gone down" screaming. Reminder that Vertin is the most expressive when someone she cares about is in real danger so I predict either one or multiple of these things:
Screaming because Arcana is getting revived and someone is being used as a sacrificed
Either this is Urd/ Dores or Sonetto in serious danger
Or a Third Thing I will theorise in a bit in this post.
This must be some serious shit for Vertin to be screaming, like there has not been an insistence prior to this has she ever screamed like this before.
Tumblr media
Oh my god this animation was FIRE. The way the disciples are sacrificing themselves into this pit, the water, the rising and then this haunting shot DAMNNN.
This is way better than her intial introduction all the way back from the game teasers holy.
Tumblr media
Back to Urd, first shot the hand shes holding is moving, I would like to think this is Vertin finally seeing Urd for the first time and maybe finally getting the chance to speak, and communicating through touch since Urd can't see. Alternatively this might be a flashblack since the clothes Urd is having is not the same from the trailer, overall hard to pinpoint where or when this is happening.
The last shot - theory time!
Tumblr media
The Wheel is the Key
This final shot shows a giant hand (maybe this hand and the face behind the Apostle is the "Mother Spirit" Naukita refers to?) and in front is a woman next to a spinning wheel. What wheel you say?
Tumblr media
OUR wheel. Yet in the shot and in the chapter poster the wheel is broken and the golden thread tied to it is broken and on the floor. Notably the woman next to it, I believe is Urd, not Ms Grace or Arcana. Not Ms Grace since she's not wearing the bonnet, not Arcana because as we saw she already was putting the head spike on, and if you look closely the woman has the two hair bangs in front and the colour tinge Vertin's hair has ; and that when the pv ends Vertin says "mum" (not "mother", but "mum": its also softer, maybe this is the moment they meet?).
Ok theory time - The wheel from our suitcase that enables us to summon characters through the lake is the wheel used for summoning Arcana potentially. This is likely separate from the final object the Manus need for the ritual so for now I will treat them separately.
Going back to Arcana's revival animation, note that she emerges from a lake first - all our playable characters emerge from the lake as well, if we remember how Sonetto was summoned by the wheel in the Prologue.
Alright onto the three thing I think Vertin is screaming about - the suitcase potentially being invaded and the wheel being forcibly removed from the suitcase - also wouldn't it be cool if after that scene, our ability to summon characters become blocked until we clear the next stage?
Maybe this is the aftermath of summoning Arcana, the wheel is broken and Urd stands alone at the sight of the wheel.
Theory summary: The wheel is a key component to summoning Arcana, our ability to summon characters regardless of era will enable the Manus to summon her into a much stronger form.

Piecing together: The current timeline in Reverse 1999
CN SPOILERS up to Chapter 5 and Interlude. Long post.
The new Chapter 5 and Interlude for Reverse 1999 has shed some light on the Storm and its timeline. With all the new info, I've tried to piece it together as accurately as possible. Here's the timeline I have put together:
Tumblr media
Let me break down my findings.
First of all, let's look at the IDM Computer with 37's Mother's prediction.
Tumblr media
37 mentions "From 1999 to 2007, the emanation has taken place seven times". Here's how I interpret what the years mean in the Phenomenal column. It's like calling the effect of the Storm: for the first row, the 1996 Storm reverses the era 1999 to 1996. So the "1996 Storm".
The IDM only shows 6 Storms, so the 7th is the Storm that reversed to 1929. I wonder why she didn't include the 8th Storm (1929->1913), but that could be because it was the anomaly 2-day emanation that ruined the model prediction.
Here's a table I have made attempting to fill in the blanks of the IDM computer.
Tumblr media
Let's analyze it Storm by Storm.
The 1st Storm (1999 -> 1996)
When: 23:59. December 31, 1999
Reverses to: 1996
Many sources for this, from the IDM showing 1996 to Greta, the writer of the letters in the interlude, mentioning it in her letters.
The 2nd Storm (1996 -> 1985) [Original: 2000]
When: 1996-1997.
Logs don't explicitly say when, but from the IDM we know it takes place ~1 year after the first Storm.
Reverses to: 1985.
We know this from Greta.
"Things remained unclear until time was reversed again. This time, we all witnessed that rain in the 80s. That was 1985."
She was safe in the Headquarters, witnessing the Storm reverse.
The 3rd Storm (1987 -> 1976) [Original: 2003]
When: On a 27th evening, 1987.
Greta: "The Storm in 1987 was predicted. "…but the prediction was not accomplished by LAPLACE. The captive from Manus Vindictae names the precise date of that Storm."
In Chapter 3, we learn the Foundation captured a Manus Vindictae member who gave them the date of the next Storm. Greta also mentions a captive from Manus predicted it.
Thus, this is the Storm that took place in the breakaway incident, where Vertin was 12-years old and witnessed the Storm for the first time.
Reverses to: 1976
Greta: "Finally, I made up my mind to write to [37's mother]... ... ... She died. On the same day, the first and only timekeeper who just took office, the 12-year-old child returned alone from the Storm. She told us the time in the outside world at that point." "...The last two digits in the number of the year after that Storm were exactly her name and her number: 77".
This was a bit hard to understand. I concluded the year it reversed to was 1976, as Greta said "the year after the Storm" was 77.
Original Year: 2003
Two years has passed from the 2nd Storm (1985) as this Storm took place in 1987. This fits with the year 2003 in the IDM computer. Also, when Sophia talks to Sonetto at the geometry graveyard:
Sophia: "Four years ago, my father was restored to a geometric body on his way back to the island. So was 37's mother who was also on that ship".
We know (or can at least assume) 77 is 37's mother who perished in this Storm. The current time is 2007, so four years ago is 2003.
The 4th Storm (~1976 -> 1930s) [Original: 2004]
When: 1976~1977/78
Reverses to: Some year in the 1930s
Original year: 2004
37: "In the initial four years, the emanation [Storm] has a pattern. First it brought us back to the 90s, then the 80s, and then the 70s. After that it suddenly leapt to the 30s."
When is the initial 4 years? 1999-2003, and this fits with our current pattern thus far from 90s -> 80s -> 70s. So the 4th Storm takes us to the 30s.
Sophia: "We miscalculated the impact area of the emanation. We thought the ships would be safe in the [...] current."
This confirms the Storm has a limited area it affects, where places hit by the Storm reverses to that particular year. The timeline of R1999 isn't going backwards linearly. This opens a lot of possibilities and eras we could visit.
The 5th Storm (~1930s-> 1912s) [Original: 2006]
When: Sometime in the 1930s
Reverses to: 1912
Original: 2006
37: ".... After that it suddenly leapt to the 30s. In the subsequent 3 years, [the emanation] took place twice."
When are the three years? The Storm that took us to the 30s was 2004. So the subsequent 3 years 37 refers to are: 2005, 2006, 2007.
Tumblr media
The IDM jumps from 2004 to 2006. You can (very vaguely) make out "1912" from the year 2006. At least I think it's 1912. So the 5th Storm takes us from the 30s to 1912.
The 6th Storm (~1912s-> 1966s) [Original: 2007]
Here's where it gets interesting, and where I start to theorize things because there isn't much info yet about this Storm.
When: Theorized: 1912~1914
Reverses to: 1966
Original year: 2007
In 2007, there is a 6th Storm. This is likely the Storm before the beginning of R1999, which takes us to 1966 where Vertin meets Regulus.
Here's why I think this Storm fits with the IDM model and happens in 1912~1914, more possibly 1914.
In Chapter 1, Vertin lists down people she has met to Regulus.
Regulus: "Huh? It's Lewis. I know him!" Vertin: "Yes. I took this photo several days ago. He was selling the Hoover Upright Vacuum Cleaners in the West End, and thought photos would help his business, so he gladly took this." Regulus: "Why did you take a photo of him? How's he..."
Vertin's response is to take a deep breath.
Tumblr media
This interaction was very interesting. Why is Regulus so surprised Vertin took a picture of Lewis? "How's he..." How's he what? Alive?
Now I'm not very familiar with historical figures named Lewis, so I could be very (and hilariously) wrong, but after researching who could be related to a business involving Hoover Upright Vacuum Cleaners, I speculate Lewis is John Spedan Lewis. His father, John Lewis, founded John Lewis, a British brand of high-end department stores.
In 1914, John Lewis hands Spedan Lewis control of a store named Peter Jones. Where is Peter Jones located? Sloane Square, London, which is in King's Road.
Vertin: "Yes. I took this photo several days ago."
This fits with the London location and timeline we know so far.  So a few days before Vertin met Regulus, she was in an area of 1914s where she met Spedan Lewis trying to get his store [Peter Jones] going.
Judging from her reaction, he got reversed by the Storm that took them to 1966. Spedan Lewis died in 1963, which is why Regulus is confused why Vertin has a picture of him taken several days ago, and why a wealthy Founder of high-end luxury stores needs a photo taken to help his business.
I thought this was a nice clue that Vertin was in ~1912s era before the 1966s, though this is all just speculation. Feel free to add your own theories who Lewis could be.
The 7th Storm (~1966s-> 1929s) [Original: 2007]
When: June 3rd, 1966.
Reverses to: February 14th, 1929.
Takes place in Chapter 0, where Vertin and Sonetto meets Regulus.
The 8th Storm (~1929s-> 1913s) [Original: 2007]
When: February 15th, 1929.
Reverses to: 1913
Takes place in Chapter 2, where Vertin meets Schneider, Druvis, and Sotheby. Manus Vindictae escalates the Great Depression to cause an earlier Storm. This era only lasts for two days.
These two Storms are straightforward since we witnessed them in game. I won't go into details about them. We're still in the year 2007 according to 37.
The Current Year in Ch 5: 1914 [2007]
Chapter 4 takes place from August 26th to October 10th 1913. The new Chapter 5 begins in 1914.
Tumblr media
Eight storms have taken place thus far. Here's a summary with the timeline for reference:
Tumblr media
1st Storm (1999 -> 1996)
2nd Storm (1996 -> 1985) [Original: 2000]
3rd Storm (1987 -> 1976) [Original: 2003]
4th Storm (~1976 -> 1930s) [Original: 2004]
5th Storm (~1930s -> 1912s) [Original: 2006]
6th Storm (~1912s -> 1966s) [Original: 2007]
7th Storm (~1966s -> 1929s) [Original: 2007]
8th Storm (~1929s -> 1913s) [Original: 2007]
The Current Year in Chapter 5: 1914 [2007]
Random thoughts:
I hope this post helped paint a clearer picture of the Storms and the possible timeline! Cause, whew, the reason I made this whole timeline was to make sense of it myself. So much lore was dropped in the new chapter.
A question that remains unanswered:
Tumblr media
How do people predict the Storm? How can they tell the time in the outside world?
Moissan: "Since Timekeeper hasn't reported the time of this era to the Foundation, you two, as the Foundation investigators, shouldn't know what year this is."
We know 37's group predict them through patterns and math, but what about the Manus Vindictae and Vertin? Vertin just seems to... innately know through her pocket watch and Storm countdown timer on her bracer, perhaps related to her great sense of arcanum. I'm really curious about that.
Biggest Takeaways:
The Storm isn't going backwards linearly and it has a limited impact area. So that means some places not hit by the Storm remains untouched, while others get reversed to whatever era the Storm brings. The first Storm probably had the widest impact.
This means an era in the 1912, for example, could be "reversed" to 1966 if it was hit by the 1966 Storm. That's what I'm getting from all of this. Anyone in the Storm impact area just... poofs, and arcanists/humans in that time era spontaneously appear with the buildings and such. I really love this idea-story wise we could jump around eras.
Then we have places that are completely immune like the Headquarters, Suitcase, and 37's island. They are the only ones who can consistently keep track of time as they're unaffected like spectators viewing the outside world. For the Foundation, Vertin is their way of tracking time in eras: what era did a Storm reverse a place to.
Again, some of these are just speculations and my theories. If you noticed any information I missed out or a mistake, feel free to let me know whether through tags, reply, or even my asks if you're shy. Or if you would just like to talk theories or about Reverse 1999 I'm more than happy to :>

Injuries is what I am used to
Game: Reverse 1999 x Reader Characters: Vertin, Sonetto, & Horropedia x Injured! Reader Genre: Hurt/Comfort, mentions of blood, non-spoiler territory, Fluff Disclaimer: This is made for fun, be aware of oocs and mistypings.
-- {Can you write about the pavlov foundation gang (like horropedia, vertin, sonetto) reacting to their s/o coming back injured from their mission against manus vindictae 👉👈 [lmao just something to feed the horropedia brainrot] - anon} (This is requested that was from the inbox of @sleepy-meep) --
Summary: You had finished your mission, as the toughest unit in the St. Pavlov Foundation. You came in one piece but at what cost? Being injured from the Manus Vindictae, how will they react to that is...
Tumblr media
She is stoic, but deep down...
Vertin is pissed.
She had NO idea that you will get injured from the fight and swore to herself to NEVER make the same mistake ever again. Vertin immediately tends to your wounds calmly and asks you to rest or sleep by her side.
I dont think Vertin would not allow you to be alone for even a second, as a result Vertin would be a doting lover.
Plus you might want to get used to Vertin being clingy, she too deserves your attention even more.
Also Vertin might cry silently when she confess that she just needs your company and hopes that it was not greedy.
Let's just say that Vertin had a pleasant time with you.
Tumblr media
If there is a meter of panic out of 10, it would be a 1000 when Sonetto sees you in that state.
She is EXTREMELY worried about you and immediately tries her best to tend to your wounds, constantly worried that she would leave or worse yet lost you when you are away from her.
She can't afford to leave you alone.
If anything she would LOVE to ask permission to be with you till you recovered from your wounds.
If you do need any help or any of her service Sonetto will arrive no hesitation.
But if its a kiss, she would give you kisses, no questions asks.
Cut to Matilda sobbing/j
Tumblr media
The happy go lucky man will turn to concern and worry with a blink of an eye.
Goes to you and wonders if you are alive or a ghost, but when you reassure him that you are fine and just injured. He brushes off like nothing happened.
That is the ONLY thing he can fool you.
But deep down, he deeply cares for you.
In his own way Horropedia loves to bother you even if you are recovering from your injuries. But this is LITERALLY his opportunity to be with you so he is on the winning side.
Plus he won't hesitate to give you kisses when he tried to take care of your wounds, cheesy I know. But he would also lure you to watch horror movies with him and chill.
The only thing that YOU alone is not aware is that, Horropedia kept you close to him while he was either watching or reading not letting you go until you are fully healed.

Do u think Schneider was Vertin's first kiss, or did she have her first kiss from someone else?
part of me wonders if Vertin kissed someone before because she recovered quickly from Schneider's kiss, but also that might just be a Vertin thing.
She doesn't stay fazed for very long lol
But you know what would be funny?
What if Smoltin stole Matilda's first kiss, but that was also her first kiss to.
It comes up in a poem Matilda is trying to get inspiration from and she's instantly flustered. Meanwhile, Smoltin doesn't understand how scandalous it is or why it's a big deal.
And she just does it. The tiniest peck.
However, she still doesn't get it and Matilda is furious because she was supposed to have her first kiss with a certain redhead. Vertin is confused, but she genuinely feels bad for making her friend upset. Matilda is a softie at heart and forgives Vertin, because she knows Vertin doesn't mean any harm.
Then one day when they're older, it comes up again when their bickering and Sonetto hears about it for the first time. Matilda gets her wish, Sonetto finally sees her as a rival! (not really but she is also in disbelief)
Vertin and Matilda are just pestering each other though. There's no real hard feelings. They are close friends 😌

I was wondering... I've been reading the self-aware au and I wonder if Manus Vindictae is also aware of the player— How does Forget Me Not even react to the concept of the player too if he's ever self-aware of it? A human who calls the shots on the story progressing (clearing levels) and also the one who beats his ass in battle (i had to insight 2 level 20 my arcanists to beat him under 10 turns in hard mode)
Can he hear the player? Can he see them? (I tend to gush over him whenever he speaks, I repeat the scenes he's in 😭 i miss him sm in the story) sorry for all these questions!!! Im so curious of self-aware aus and how they work and yours particularly was REALLY good
Tumblr media
;R1999 FORGET ME NOT - Self Aware AU
Tumblr media
Headcanons about Forget Me Not within the Self Aware AU.
Tumblr media
this is a very good opportunity to think about non-playable characters within the game, actually! ty for the ask o7
there was someone who commented on one of my self-aware posts saying it was kind of like analog horror and I agree lolol
Tumblr media
I vaguely remember mentioning that the requirements needed in order to be aware of the Player's existence were to either reach a 100% bond and/or to be exposed to Vertin's constant presence.
Forget Me Not, as an NPC with little to no actual relevant weight in the grand scheme of things (he is only relevant during the 1929 arc as of now) doesn't meet any of these requirements, so I don't think he'd be aware of the player!
His self-awareness is limited to knowing the world around him is fake, which fuels his self-deprecating and self-defeating, deranged, depressing mindset. I like to imagine Forget Me Not doesn't even understand that the world he lives in is a game, he just knows it's fake and that no matter what he does or says, no one will truly remember. Things will inexplicably reset or loop, and even so, he's not aware of the many times he's been forced to battle Vertin and the others because the Player had to grind specific materials. And so on and so forth. In his eyes, the "high power" that could attempt to control this empty world would be Arcana and no one else--after all, she's the one who opened his eyes to the truth through indoctrination.
When it comes to the figure of the Player, I wanted to portray an extremely obscure and detached figure. Vertin herself can't even fully wrap her head around the Player's existence, she doesn't even know if you're human--if the protagonist, the character "closest" to the Player is still left in the dark about these aspects, imagine how it is for other characters who don't have the privilege of acting your will, of being your hands and eyes. Sonetto can't even get a proper look at the Player, she still needs an insane amount of time lingering around Vertin to become more attuned to this somewhat eldritch entity tied to her. Characters of "equal" importance to Vertin, such as Arcana, may be able to perceive the Player in their own unique ways just like her, but everyone else? They need these special cases to even notice such a presence. Vertin is your only link to this world. You're the one looking in, this is a one-way mirror and only a very select few can look into the abyss and realize that something -someone else- is out there, staring back.
Like, of course I'll make exceptions or bend the rules if people request direct interactions between a character and the Player, but if we're talking about the setting as it is, then this is how I picture it.
Can he hear or see the Player? Nope. He doesn't have the means to. He doesn't even know they exist.
Forget Me Not feels superior with his self-awareness, gloating about how he's not like the common rubble who goes on about their day, entirely blind to the horrors. And yet, he's not aware of his limited perception of the world. It's very ironic, the way he looks down on others for the very same crime he's guilty of: obliviousness. Forget Me Not believes everyone outside of Manus Vindictae is too dumb, too unworthy of the freedom that comes with self-awareness. But really, this is just the blind leading the blind at the end of the day. Within Manus Vindictae, we only have Arcana and Forget Me Not as important characters, so it's hard for me to make a proper frame of reference, but overall I think that only Arcana is fully self-aware. Everyone else's perception of reality are equal or slightly inferior to Forget Me Not.
I think this falls in line with his modus operandi, so to speak! The way he believes he truly understands how things are, while turning his back on reality at the same time because he can't take it. He's too delusional, too unstable and frail to acknowledge that he may not be right, that he may be just as lost as when he first opened his eyes, that Vertin, someone so utterly disconnected from his ideals and morals and views, is the "chosen one."
As usual, Forget Me Not prefers to live a lie an double down on his usual habits than realize he always had the chance to change for the better and he just never had the courage to take that road.
How would he react upon finding out the Player's existence and their opinion on him?
I don't know the specifics around how exactly he finds out this piece of information, but either way, Forget Me Not would probably be shaken to his core! This isn't an easy pill to swallow in the slightest. You have to understand that every single time you beat him in battle, he 100% believed it was all Vertin's prowess.
How was he supposed to know she had someone guiding her? How was any of this fair?
Essentially, Forget Me Not has to confront the fact that all of his struggles, all the constant fighting and every conscious choice he's made to further ruin his life, were predetermined, already set in stone by forces beyond his comprehension. It's both freeing and claustrophobic, especially for a character like him who revels in misery and his status as an underdog earning his vengeance. He's done so much, he's worked so hard to get to where he is, and sure, his life is far from ideal, he's still the same self-destructive man, but now you're telling him that this was what the world planned from the very beginning? He had no say in anything? Someone out there decided that he was meant to be like this, and even after gaining self-awareness, he wasn't good or strong enough to break away from the script--in fact, he played right into someone else's trap.
I feel like Forget Me Not, at this point, would continue to do the only thing he knows: he doubles down. He redirects all of his hatred and all of his feelings towards the figure of the Player, if only to justify his existence--he can't live as a free man, he can't be seen as a living being worthy of respect because the plot commands it, he doesn't know where his own conscience begins and where the script and dialogue he's meant to say ends. So he might as well keep digging his own grave.
He loathes the Player more than anything else, because if there was no one to play this game, none of this would've happened in the first place. He fully blames you for every single thing, no matter how big or small. Everything that is wrong with his life can be traced to the person booting up this goddamn game every single day.
And if he learns that you replay each cutscene that he's in, he takes that as an offense.
This is just cruel mockery to Forget Me Not--not only you're the reason he's turned into such a miserable excuse of a man, but now you've turned him into your personal little jester, to sing and dance for your entertainment.
If he finds out that you hate him? That's good, it's a mutual feeling and it makes this tantrum he's throwing much more easier to deal with. But if he finds out that he's your favorite character? It kills him from the inside. How dare you?
His voice gets sharper, more visceral--every word is drenched with such profound hatred that you, from your side of the screen, can't help but think that Forget Me Not's voice actor is doing such a great job! And the artstyle is so good, his expressions look so real!
I can also see Forget Me Not eventually struggle with the fact that the Player loves him and sees him as their favorite character. It's not as easy and straightforward as hating you anymore--he doesn't even know you. He doesn't even know what to trust anymore.
Given how depressing he can be, I think he may latch onto the Player? The rug keeps being pulled from under his feet each and every time, but your existence, as awful and mysterious and controversial as it may be, is real. You're real. I have a lot of thoughts about this specific dynamic, but I'll leave them for another post so this one doesn't end up being suuuper long lol
On the subject of finding out that the Player is a human.
This one is easy! If someone were to tell Forget Me Not that the Player, the bane of his existence, is a human, then he'll just be in denial about it!
I really just like the idea of Forget Me Not having no means whatsoever to interact with the Player, it makes things so much more frustrating for him. Of course this means that everything he does know come from third-parties. And this piece of information is an extra layer of stress that he can't physically process at the same time as everything else in regards to his self-awareness, so he chooses to ignore it. To debate it. To simply deny it.
What, is he just supposed to believe everything he's told about you now? He can't even perceive you properly, let alone understand the sort of creature you are and your influence on this world--for all he knows, the people claiming to see and talk to you are all liars! All of his informants and spies could just be dead wrong, they may have misheard something on the way!
You can't be human, because he can't take another blow to his pride like this. It's humiliating enough to be played like a fiddle in such a way, Forget Me Not doesn't even want to think about the possibility of this small, fake world being at the mercy of a human--part of the very same group that caused him so much pain over the years.

I showed Reverse 1999 to my friend, and she was very intrigued with storytelling aspect of the game.
But what i want you to know is that the first question this girl asked was "is arcana vertin's mom? Because both of them have the same face shape and when you look at different characters all of them have unique face shapes and character design." And she literally bet me that in the future updates, the game is going to say that arcana is vertin's mom. She might've just spoiled herself the story at the start of the game.
The other question was she asked me was " does Matilda have ADHD? How is she so loud and energetic? not one scene shows her being calm, most of the time she acts as if she just got solar powered by the sun after getting electrocuted and chugging 10 cups of coffee" a bit dramatic on the metaphor but i get what she means (kinda?...).
She was too focused on the lore to ask anymore questions about the other characters.
Oh your friend is going to LOVE the Urdcana situationship. I can predict the "They definitely hooked up" moment.
You know, I love people who straight up ask the most accurate unpredictable questions and you're just like "Damn how did you know??"
If she says anything epic, tell me.
As for Matilda, I can't say anything, but I hadn't thought of that before. I mean, we did see she has a very serious side, one that surprises even Sonetto from time to time, but yeah most of the time she's so hyper.
And loud. Goodness gracious she's so loud.
I wonder if she would be able to predict Sophia being an Irrational number.

Apeiron's Numerical Categorization
All screenshots are from Villenthessis on Youtube and all web event results are from me and the members of Reverse 1999 server
Ahem! So I wanna try something new today, and it's about how the Apeiron's categorizes arcanists and humans with numerical meanings with the help of lorechat members. This was explained by 37. Remember, these categorization are not determined by one's lineage. Let's go read, shall we?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Integers are living example of virtues."
I'm guessing Integers are categorized for arcanists that possesses great knowledge or seen as someone who you can look up to as an example. Sonetto, Vertin, and APPLe are the examples of this.
Tumblr media
"You are well-behaved, proactive, have excellent morals, and work hard to expand your set"
2. "Fractions can be understood through specific means."
This one line really piqued my interest because Lilya and Ms. Radio are categorized as Fractions. I was enlightened that you have to have a way of thinking to truly understand why Fractions act the way they are! No wonder Lilya has never been bothered by Abraxases or are ignored by the Apeirons while she wanders around.
Tumblr media
"You are internally stable, confident, skilled in everything, and have your own set of behavioral logic"
3. "Irrational numbers are free spirits,"
Like it said, Irrational numbers are free spirits. They follow their own rules and most likely stubborn. Regulus is the only prime example of this because she broke 2 rules in the main story and got fucking wiped. Poor girl haha! XD
Tumblr media
"You are spontaneous, free and "untraceable", with an unruly heart that follows its own rules."
4. "while imaginary numbers are the existence which doesn't belong to this dimension of the number axis."
Tumblr media
So, to put it simply, imaginary numbers are just ordinary people. Humans. They don't care about us. That's it. :P
Ahh... It's been a while I ramble something more "productive", let's say haha! It's thanks to the lorechat members of the server I'm able to make this post. You wanna join the server? then go to #1999-story-spoiler when you're verified!
wanna overanalyze your faves? wanna constantly go off topic? wanna talk about your insane low rarity ship without being stoned by #help-question for not using meta? join lorechat today!

assuming the game lasts long enough, i wonder what they'll do once it's the fifth year anniversary and we all finally get p5 matilda.
does. matilda decide to live in fulltime at the suitcase. do we get a funny cutscene of her harried and ragged crawling out of of there screaming "JE SUIS ENFIN LIBRE APRES CINQ PUTAIN D'ANNEES"
only for her to go back because sonetto popped her head out and asked "you're not joining us for dinner?" 🥺 "but sotheby and i just finally perfected mr. karson's bouillabaisse recipe" 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 and in there you could spiritually feel the puppy whining noises and matilda's will crumbling like dust

sonetto and vertin's parallels to sophia and 37
because i've just completed 37's story and chapter 5 a while back and must sit down for a talk (see: breakdown /pos) with a friend.
there's this Thing, this inferiority complex of sonetto and sophia where they're actually Good at what they do except for the one thing they "think" matters most to vertin and 37 – since they've grown up together aren't you supposed to be best at understanding each other? and in the centering themselves around being a pillar for those who are born great in other departments sonetto and sophia do become that deserving partner, but at the expense of a tilted perception of their own self worth.
like we've seen sonetto being separated from vertin and how anxious she becomes, even to the point of tears on their way out of the walden, or snapping at mesmer jr. sonetto who can't help but give her all and take nothing at all for her loved ones, thus she admires vertin's level-headedness in exacting situations because that's vertin's own way to keep her loved ones safe, except it's never in sonetto's keen nature to follow suit. her own love language is holding what she's been taught dear to keep them out of harm's way, except when it doesn't work out – like in her trial when she is yet to speak Apeiron's logic to defend herself, she admits she has got to pick up the scripture from sophia as to stop being a "burden" to vertin but doesn't acknowledge the fact that vertin would never be that hard on her but herself. because she knows sonetto can't help but Feel, breaking the silence at the hearing to defend her from arcana and whatnot (i haven't reread the former chapters in a hot minute), so we know however it turns out vertin's grateful to have her as a partner, not the other way around.
in sophia's case, her trail echoes what she does as "nobody is capable of doing this job except the altruists", so not only that Correctors are vital to Apeiron's workings, Sophia must first be great herself to assume this role. the narrator likens this to working a loom to fix a carpet – when sophia first confronts geometry upon arriving on Apeiron, she can barely math so she resorts to hard work until her metaphorical "fingers are calluses"; she learns faster than even locals, wins a place on this island, and yet it "wasn't enough because she's been outmatched by her playmate, a perfect piece of satin born by nature". in return, it's in her "altruistic" nature that she not only picks up the pieces left by 37 but also judges herself over how good she is at it, so whenever she lapses or can't predict the outcome of 37's conclusions, sophia's self worth plummets, wondering if she could ever possibly help fix every mistake if "she were a mistake." nevermind the fact that the narrator acknowledges that sophia is still "the most distinctive carpet there is". nevermind the fact that 37 also cares about sophia's judgments on her work – especially when sophia judges 210 to be right that 37 can't be the one to "uncover" her father's legacy, 37 becomes timid over over whether she's "tarnished sophia's memories." it's uncharacteristic of 37 to not take others' personal boundaries for granted when her genius works, like proving their numbers for them, so we know she cares and at that rare moment sophia seems to remember not just her value next to 37 but her own, that "there's nothing wrong with letting the stars shine where they are and those who look up will continue to look up." if only sophia more frequently gives herself credits for having been "looking up" to guide her star, not to base her own life around how she could never shine that bright.
all in all, i do think sophia and sonetto deserve even more screen time to sit down and talk because imo you do learn to be kinder to yourself when you first see yourself in another. except war is already clawing at Apeiron's shoulder. STILL, in this essay i will –

Vernetto but with Manus Vertin AU where Constantine fucked up and those kids ended up being picked up by the Manus instead of getting reversed.
That brief duel in the underground passageway would be their last exchange before parting ways for good. This wasn't supposed to happen... She thought. Would she regret not trying hard enough stopping her friends? Would she wonder what would happen if she joined them instead?
Imagine when they finally meet again after so long. Sonetto barely recognize her former deskmate, the very same girl who just wanted to show her the world, now with her ideals twisted beyond recognition.
Or something like that idk man I can't sleep.

Caught Blob-Handed
Sonetto had believed she had seen all the world had to offer, in regards to how bizarre Vertin is.
Yet, this... this takes the title of Most Bizarre.
Vertin was on their bed, her almost omnipresent top hat on the bedside table, and herself had shed her coat, it hanging off the coat rack.
And in her hands...
The sounds of squeaks echoed in the room, as a blob shaped Sonetto was, for lack of a better word, railing a blob shaped Vertin into their mattress.
The two were connected by a metal chain from both of their 'heads' which, while adorable in any other context, was certainly more... risqué, in this one.
Eventually, Vertin's hands must have tired, because she placed them down, and heaved a sigh.
And then her eyes wandered the room. And then the door.
Colour drained from her face as Vertin's head slowly turned to face her wife, who had decided today of all days to wear those damn jeans.
"...Hey." Vertin greeted, trying to distance the imminent conversation far away from the fact she was just simulating coitus between compressed, circle-shaped versions of herself and her partner. "I. Didn't hear you come in."
"I was being quiet, as I thought you were asleep." Sonetto's reply was quick, and her accent made it sound as if it was she who held the conversation in complete and utter control. "...May I ask what that was, Vertin?"
"You may not."
"..." Sonetto's gaze wasn't judgemental. Rather, it was more exasperated than anything. "Vertin, you know that we have tomorrow, right?"
"I-I know, yes," a rare stutter from the normally stoic woman; it was no wonder, really, given how flustered Sonetto can make her.
Sonetto approached slowly, but soon enough, she stood directly above Vertin.
Her wife's face had regained its colour, and was now coupled with a bright red hue, as well.
She looked like a Christmas tree, in that regard, oddly enough...
Sonetto's hand went forwards, and soon enough, found her wife's cheek. She rubbed her thumb against it, even as Vertin looked away in embarrassment, bright red turning a shade darker yet.
"For the record, Timekeeper," that title, once used religiously, was now only used when the Italian poet truly wished to tease the Brit. "You having the plushie version me being on top says quite a bit."
Vertin spluttered. Then she got her hat, and tilted it as to hide her red face.
She was adorable. And Sonetto couldn't help it!
Who would, truly?

Was messing around in the game 's Altas and I found this.
Im curious what infected means. We have those in Beyond who are essetially characters who didnt originate from this world (Voyager, Jessica). Awakened who are objects that came to life (Ms. Radio, Apple). Arcanists im assuming pureblooded ones (Regulus, Sonetto, etc). Im honestly not sure about this though as there are characters like Druvis III who is implied to have human parents(?) but may have arcanist blood in their lineage. Then theres the Mixed which so far only have Satsuki and Pavia on there, both characters having a murky background (Satsuki being an orphan and Pavia having an unknown father and dead mom) but can clearly use arcanum.
Then theres the infected which is just blank. Like it makes me wonder what defines as infected and infected with what exactly??
