Home, I'm making my way home My mind's already there Yes, my mind is
Light, you're with me in the dark Light my way at night Let your light shine
Now, this burden weighs me down The heaviest of weights Knocks me to the ground Right down to the
Dew that sparkles on the ground Blue mountains loom above Blue mountains loom
And I walk alone, one wish Won't be forgotten Never forget that
Long, is the path ahead And though my body tires And I have far to go I know I'm going home

1-1-2020
Home, I’m making my way home, my mind’s already there. I know I’m going home.
I’ve never gelt more mournful or sad going home before. Right now I am in seat 36 on an EasyJet flight to Amsterdam. It’s a few minutes past 7. Ever since I closed the door of the apartment that we called home for 2 months I’ve been on the brim of crying. I felt it deeply when I closed that door for the final time. I am going to miss it so much.
Ok. I loved Portugal but it didn’t treat me well. The following line has been on my mind for a while now. “Portugal I love you, but you’re bringing me down”, paraphrasing LCD Soundsystem there. And although we are going home at the moment I don’t feel like I’m going back to a good place. I feel like I am traveling in time. I don’t feel like I’ve evolved. I feel like we’re going back in time, back to september, back to how everything was when we left. I feel like these months of my life being in Portugal won’t exist when I set foot on Schiphol in a couple of hours. Life will go on just as it was and nothing will have changed and I feel really sad about that. Ok. Now I did not particularly lived my best life on some aspects. But on some others I have. I wasn’t my strongest, most resilient self, but I did jump for joy and did only the things I wanted. I didn’t change my life as it is. Not for the worse, not for the better.
I liked our life in Portugal. Not 100% of it. But I liked it. Maybe I am already getting melancholic. But I don’t feel super stoked about returning to our home. I do in a way feel like I am not returning to my home. But I feel more like I’ve just left my home. Although it didn’t really feel like home 100% either. In a way I feel homeless. I’ve been listening to Going Home by Asgeir for a while now. Its on repeat. Maybe I should put Alice Merton’s song No Roots on for a bit. Maybe I, above all, feel like this is a layover. A temporary home between my old home and a new, future home. Most of all I feel like I won’t be celebrating the next NYE in that home in The Hague. But I also feel like, strongly feel, that I/we will get sucked in by the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life, which I absolutely dread. I feel like I need to move forward. Instead of back and forth and back again. I feel like I need to make serious life changing, life altering decisions. But I guess/sense M. isn’t on the same wavelength this time. I remember how long it took me to get him to like the idea of going to Portugal for a couple of months. Yes, he’s changed in that departement. But I think he is also really happy to go home to our normal, old life. But I don’t want our old life. I want a completely new life! I want a new life so new it almost hurts. That shines so bright I have to cover my eyes. And yes. That might cause me to feel uneasy and cause me to cry long and hard. But it allows me to shape my life to my own standard. Sometimes I feel like I should live my life just by myself. That is the only way I van shape my life to my needs. Ok. I’m a little less sad now.

THE LAST SEA: A WILL/JAMES PLAYLIST
James Norrington has a number of questions: Why are souls returning from beyond the grave? Why is he one of them? And why does Will Turner seem to hate the sight of him?
Actually, he can hazard a guess at that last one.

12 Songs for A Court of Frost and Starlight
Tumblr media
SPOILERS BELOW
1. Flesh And Bone by Keaton Henson
I feel like this is Nesta’s song. A considerable section of ACOFAS’s plot is dedicated to Nesta and her struggle to come to terms with the war, her father’s death and her own guilt. “I find war, I find peace/ I find no heat, no love in me.” While Nesta constantly acts out and shows a thorny exterior, she also is going through an inner battle alone. There’s a quiet loneliness in the acoustic guitar and forlorn voice of the Keaton Henson that I feel reflects Nesta’s inner state. I still don’t like her but I can empathise with her.
Lucky by Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillat
A tastefully happy song with a sweet melody for Feysand. While things may not be perfect for Rhysand and Feyre (because honestly they never are) ACOFAS is partly their happily ever after.
3. Valse “La plus que lente” by Claude Debussey
A beautiful, slightly bittersweet waltz that features piano and cello duet (I didn’t take music in school, please don’t come for my ass). This is the song that the Night Court would dance to in my mind.
4. Nocturne in A flat, Op. 32, No. 2 by Frederic Chopin
A pretty song with sleepy melody. I kind of imagine this as the song that would play during the last scene of some cheesy Christmas movie, when all of the family gathers in order to unwrap presents before a roaring fire. I mean, ACOFAS is basically a Christmas (Winter Solstice?) story with all of the matching family drama, alcohol and presents.
5. The Four Seasons, Violin Concerto No. 4 in F Minor, Op. 8, RV 297, “L’inverno” (Winter) by Antonio Vivaldi
ACOFAS is a cosy winter story (snowball fights included), hence the losing.
6. Afterglow by Asgeir
I feel like this song really captures the magic of the Court of Dreams and Velaris. Dreamlike layered vocals make you feel like you’re soaring while listening. Also, Feyre literally has an afterglow following her “magic show”.
7. Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6 in D-Flat Major, S.244/6 by Franz Liszt
To be honest, this is the song that would play while Feyre and Cassian decorate (trash) the house drunk.
8. To the Moon by Phora
Part one of the bedroom songs. Another dreamlike song with a steady bass and lyrics that sing of love for girl who has never known real love. “Not your size, not your curves, not your thighs/ Not your lips ,not your eyes/ It's your soul and everything inside” The log-dead romantic in me is almost won over.
9. Electric (feat. Khalid) by Alina Baraz
Part two of the bedroom songs. This song’s a bit less complicated. It’s got the typical Electronic bass and lyrics about love, but Khlaid and Alina Braz have a nice thing going.
10. Snowman by Sia
As mentioned before, the Winter Solstice is Prythian’s version of Christmas, do I had to include an actual Christmas. Sia’s Christmas album is one of the best I’ve listened to so I included a sweet holiday track from it.
11. We’re Going Home by Vance Joy
A big part of ACOFAS is the idea of home, and the Inner Circle’s individual journey to find each other. This song explores that idea of home as a person and state of mind, rather than where you live
12. Winter Song by Sara Bareilles
The lilting vocals and simplicity of the instruments create a song that achieves a barren prettiness reminiscent of Velaris’s winter. A winter song indeed.
Notes:
Like I said earlier, I’m not actually a music student or anything, so please don’t crucify me. I chose these songs based on lyrics, overall vibe and whether I’d listen to these while reading. Personally, I still think ACOMAF was the best in the series, but I’ll take ACOFAS to tide me over to next year. There were a couple of things that made me cringe a little bit like Feyre’s treatment of Lucien and Rhysand’s attitude, but I wouldn’t necessarily label them as problematic. Those issues might even be addressed in the next series (not likely though). Either way, I’ll read whatever Sarah J. Maas writes anyway.

Again I am at the wonderful Baloise Session listening to the amazing Kaleo and in our regions Newcomer Asgeir – Iceland Calling. As soon as I stepped into the venue they showed the old Session of the Kaiser Chiefs. What a show it was, you gotta love them. I really love this concept of showing past concerts especially if they are that good!
First up is Asgeir. I meant to see him at Gurtenfestival but you know how it is at festivals.. So when I read that he will play the Baloise Session I knew I had to go. Let me tell you he didn’t disappoint! Asgeir’s got a beautiful – high pitched at times – voice which is just incredible live. During the first three songs “Hold”, “Fennir Yfir”, “Higher” I was able to take pictures and the songs were very psychedelic and so different to what I expected. I did like it though and the beautiful red lights for “Here comes the wave in” were great. After “Underneath it” one of my highlights came on: “New day” is a beautiful ballade and I listened to it with my eyes closed. Beatrice Stirnimann – the organiser – said at the beginning we should turn on our “Kopfkino” which doesn’t translate literally into English. It means to turn on our imagination and enjoy our own movie in our head.
She was very right. “Head in the Snow” and “Dreaming” were next after which Asgeir said his first words: Thank you! We wouldn’t hear any more words out of him which is a bit of a pity. I would have loved to know more about his songs but I get it – it’s the Scandinavian Coolness…
Asgeir on keys
Asgeir on guitar
“In Harmony” is another one of my favourites. Just an absolutely wonderful song to dream to. His incredible voice came out perfectly in this song and made this song another highlight. During the next song “Afterglow” Asgeir brought out the Icelandic fires. It looked amazing! We stayed in the warm regions of the colours and for “I know you know” we were transported into the jungle. For me the instruments created jungle noises and the lighting was in warm colours. This is quite special from a musician born in the cold regions of the world 🙂
“King and Kross” was the first song that came up when I YouTubed him and I quite liked the song. “Unbound” and “Going Home” went by really quickly and I was completely lost in my thoughts until “Stardust” happened. Jesus! The whole earth was shaking from the bass and the lights were supporting it. So people started to go to the dance floor just before the encore and what an encore it was. “Torrent” is the only up-tempo song Asgeir had in his repertoire. This song was my highlight of his set but he had to make way for his fellow countrymen Kaleo.
I knew Kaleo from their hit “Way Down” which is a slow rock ballade so I was utterly surprised when I realised they are basically a rock/ blues/ country band! I love this style and I adored their show! I am so so happy that Baloise Session made this happen. But first things first. Lots of fans were already waiting to hit the dance floor even before the band came on stage. For the first three songs the photographers took up the dance floor but I already noticed a few singing along to “Broken Bones”. Jokull – the lead singer – started to whistle beautifully for “I Can’t Go On Without You”.
When the third song “Save Yourself” started I had to stop photographing because I liked the music so much that I couldn’t focus and didn’t want to anymore. Plus I had some great shots of this beautiful man and his fellow musicians! Yes, you heard me – Jokull is gorgeous! That’s why half of the fans were young women and the other half were older men rocking out. I loved this mix! It made for a great crowd who were dancing, jumping and clapping. David on drums and Daniel on bass made sure of that. They were animating the crowd and Daniel was running around and jumping up and down himself. You could fell that they were enjoying themselves a lot!
I joined the crowd in front of the stage when they played “Alter Ego” and “Pour Sugar on Me”. Rubin Pollock on guitar did an amazing job and Thorleifur normally on keys showed off his harmonica skills in a few songs and that was just incredible to witness. It is such an underrated instrument but it creates an amazing sound. “Automobile” is a country song and I couldn’t stop dancing! “Hot blood” and “No Good” followed just before Kaleo introduced us to their language. The beautiful ballade “Vor i Vaglasogi” was enchanting. Jokulls voice in perfect harmony with David’s accompanied by just a guitar was just pure bliss.
They covered Nancy Sinatra’s “Bang Bang” and wow it was really really good. It’s so special and interesting to me that a band from Iceland is doing so well in this country music genre that they could as well be born and raised in Nashville. Jokull did dress his part at yesterday’s Baloise Session however if you would see him you wouldn’t put him into this genre which makes this band even more appealing. “Back Door” and “Texas” made sure that I would definitely see them again. I also think that quite a few people at that event would go see them again. Us fans made sure that Kaleo knows that we love them and that they have to come back.
You could see that they didn’t expect us to be this good. A few times they said thank you and you were a wonderful crowd tonight and to be honest I have to agree. It was wonderful to be part of this evening. With “Way Down” they finally played their – so far – biggest hit. It sounded completely different live – for me it was even better. You know that I am a fan of live music and usually prefer the live versions over the record one. Way too fast Kaleo went off stage before the encore.
After a little over an hour Kaleo finished their set with “Rock N Roller” and the crowd went mental. Maybe not the people sitting but definitely the people in front of the stage. I have to thank the Baloise Session again for inviting these two artists and for letting me cover such amazing talent from a little island called Iceland.
I am very much looking forward to see Kool and the Gang/Dabu Fantastic and Tim Bendzko/Max Giesinger at this brilliant festival. So keep following me here on WordPress or via my social media accounts: Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Have a look at my past review of Clean Bandit/Goldfrapp.
Have you been at this amazing concert? Please share your opinion in the comments below.
Check out my review of two cool Icelandic voices who warmed our hearts at the Baloise Session Again I am at the wonderful Baloise Session listening to the amazing Kaleo and in our regions Newcomer Asgeir - Iceland Calling.

Gurtenfestival is placed in the capital city of Switzerland in Berne on the hill called Gurten. A proper citizen of Berne would call it „Güsche“. Now thanks to the advent calendar of Ticketcorner I’m able to go to the festival for 4 days and have some VIP amenities available too. I didn’t know beforehand how grateful I would be for that special treatment.
 VIP area
Day 1
This year the festival started on Wednesday instead of Thursday. But still so many people queued up to get their ticket changed into a wristband. After that they had to wait another 1 ½ hrs to get to the Gurtenbähnli to bring them up the hill. Lucky me I could jump the queue and walk straight in. The VIP area is really nice and on Day 1 there weren’t too many people there either.
Rag’N’Bone Man
First main act was Rag’N’Bone Man who sang again very well. Although I couldn’t really hear that much because of the chatter of the people around me. I really don’t understand how people can spend that much money and waste it on chit chat. We went on to see Nothing but Thieves who were good but I cannot put my finger on what was missing in their performance so that I cannot say: „Ohh I would see them again“.
Nothing but Thieves
Royal Blood was the next act on the mainstage but they weren’t my favourite either so we chilled in the lounge area. Unfortunately it was really cold and windy and very uncomfortable. So we were glad when we could walk over to the tent stage where we saw an amazing Jack Garratt. He looks like a kid who didn’t get what he wanted but God he’s good and he is really funny too! He started to play very famous songs by Justin Timberlake or Michael Jackson and then stopped. It was kinda frustrating but also very funny. At the same time Dabu Fantastic a Swiss band was playing the forest stage. Since I knew how good they were I preferred to see someone I haven’t seen before. We only heard the last bit when we had to leave the tent to be early for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
Macklemore
As always the two American lads put on a great show and the audience loved them. However I liked them better the last time I saw them at Hallenstadion when they had the full show going. At the end they held their traditional dance off with two random people from the crowd and wow they were really really good. Macklemore said it was one of the best dance off’s they’d ever seen and I have to agree. To finish the night we watched a bit of From Kid who were okay but couldn’t really catch my attention and so we headed home soon after.
From Kid on Waldbühne
Day 2
Pegasus
I was very looking forward to see Pegasus after I’ve seen them a week before on the ferry on lake Zurich. Again they didn’t disappoint. At 3.30 they had a lot of people in front of the mainstage and had them dancing and singing and waving and jumping. They are just an incredible live band! We then headed to a band from Zurich called Faber. They are Swiss but sing in German which is quite special. Next act on the mainstage was Lo & Leduc. I was really excited to see them in their home city at this brilliant festival. They were blown away by how many people turned up. They told us that they played one of the bars, then the Waldbühne, then the Zeltbühne and now the mainstage. It was an awesome 1 ½ hrs set until they finally had to make way for the next act.
Lo & Leduc with Manilio
We heard the last bit of Nemo who is a very young Swiss German Rapper but I really like his upbeat feel-good sound. It was finally time for Imagine Dragons. I’ve also already seen them at Hallenstadion like Macklemore & Ryan Lewis the day before and I also liked that concert better than this Gurtenfestival appearance. Maybe it was because I stood in the VIP area and not very close to the stage where I think the people had good fun. Funny enough after what felt like 20mins they turned off the lights completely on stage and for a very long time too. People thought it was already the usual walk off-walk on-encore part but I was like this is way too early. It turned out that it was some kind of power cut as the singer Dan Reynolds couldn’t hear anything in his in-ears. Few minutes later the show went on and like Coldplay’s bell I heard the drum sound in “Radioactive” really clearly for the first time.
Imagine Dragons
To round off Day 2 we decided to see Trust. This band has already very famous band members such as Stress and Gabriel Spahni from Pegasus. Stress was actually singing which is quite different to what he usually does. In the end the tired eyes won and we headed down.
Day 3
Lucky Chops
Unfortunately I had to work on day 3 so I only got up the hill for the 2nd main act Züri West. I thought the crowd would react similar to Lo & Leduc and create an incredible atmosphere but that wasn’t the case. The band didn’t interact with the audience and didn’t sing all their famous hits. Overall everyone was very disappointed. My concert buddy had the joy to see Lucky Chops before this main act. And she really liked them. They’re an instrumental band and good fun!
Casper
We also caught a bit of the performance of LP but we still don’t fancy her live voice a lot. Casper’s set must have been very good because when we reached the main stage the whole crowd did the usual rap/hip hop moves by moving one arm up and down. From my experience Hip Hop concerts have the best atmosphere. We headed to the tent stage next where we saw a German band called SDP. They had a punk rock feel and some very racy lyrics. I quite liked their performance and at one point they had huge beach balls bouncing off the audiences’ hands.

To finish this evening Fritz Kalkbrenner sang behind his turn tables. He started with: “Hallo ich bin Fritz und ich fang dann jetzt mal an!”. I’ve never heard a funnier start. He continued being funny throughout the set and he seemed very down to earth to me. I realized that his music is not my kinda cup of tea but I did enjoy his set and many other late night party dancers would agree.
Fritz Kalkbrenner
Day 4
The day I was anticipating the most and it turned out to be my favourite day! Somehow there weren’t a lot of people anymore even though it was a Saturday or maybe we caught the best time to get food and found good spots at concerts. Anyway it was a very chilled fun day.

We started front row with Saint Motel on the main stage. What an awesome band! They have good up-tempo music to dance to. The saxophone was great but my highlight was when the lead singer walked through the crowd to the sound tower on the other side and climbed up. It looked very funny. Another highlight and a speciality of this festival is the dancing security. You won’t find any grim unfriendly looking security here. They help you in any way they can and even start dance moves.
Veronica Fusaro on Waldbühne
Since Kate Tempest was late we decided to see Veronica Fusaro also a Swiss singer on the Waldbühne. What a wonderful setting. The stage is facing a steep part of the Gurten hill so people can sit down or even stand and everyone can see the artists down there. Veronica has a beautiful voice and good songs – perfect for the occasion, a hot sunny summer day. Close to the end we headed for Kate Tempest on the Zeltbühne – big mistake. We didn’t like her at all. She has a weird way of rapping and her songs seemed to me like she was trying to convince me to join a cult or something similar.

Seven was absolutely brilliant. He made everyone dancing, singing and clapping. It was an amazing show by awesome musicians giving their all to us. They visibly enjoyed playing and this is automatically transferred onto the audience. 1 1/2hrs of pure joy! Thank you for that.
Beginner
Unfortunately we couldn’t see Asgeir an Islandic musician but he is supposed to be very good. Next up were Beginner a hip hop combo from Hamburg who have been successful for years. They created a beautiful colourful set on stage and also gave a 110% on stage. What I personally liked was that they were actually promoting the next act Marteria as well. There was no visible competition between them. My favourite words from Jan Delay was: “We need all your energy – oh wait no – you need energy for Marteria too. This is what you’re going to do. Give us all your energy, then load it up again with all those energy stations around this place and be ready to give all your energy to Marteria again.” Loved it J
Death by Chocolate was too rocky for us so we went to see Walk off the Earth. Brilliant decision. They are an incredible live band. We loved their own songs and the covers they did. Awesome musicians who I would like to see again.

Finally, the act I was waiting for, took the stage at 12.30pm. Marteria absolutely rocked the 20’000 people at Gurtenfestival. I have no words to describe this. Before every song he said “Alle Hände” and all hands went up. We danced, we sang, we rapped, we jumped, we enjoyed every minute of this 1 1/2hrs set. During his song “Marteria Girl” he asked the guys to take all the Marteria Girls on their shoulders. At that exact moment I knew I needed to find a tall, big strong guy who will join me for Marteria’s concert in Zurich on Dec, 9th 17! J During the last song it was total “Abriss” which you can translate to “Go totally mental”. Marteria took off his shirt and asked everyone to do so as well and swing it above their heads. (Me being a pro I took a scarf with me… Hello I’m still a girl ;-)) During the final final 20 secs he created a mosh pit and on his commando everyone jumped into it.
Marteria is on FIRE
The party went on all night until the sun greeted us with an amazing sunrise which looked like painted by Bob Ross. The clouds turned purple and Marteria’s biggest hit so far “Wir bleiben wach bis die Wolken wieder lila sind” came true. Just a brilliant finish to a wonderful 4 day Gurtenfestival in Berne with amazing weather. I have to say thank you to Ticketcorner for this incredible prize and to Gurtenfestival for these many special moments with great artists and to my lovely concert buddy.
