OBSESSING over Kekkai Sensen again like it’s 2015 and I just found the show all over again
I am OBSESSED with Klaus and Leo’s relationship because it is fundamentally a man who is as intimidating as possible and a man who is as unintimidating as possible forming a bond of trust that begins with the very first meeting and only strengthens over time. Leonardo is the tiniest little guy and Klaus is so big and when you put the pair of them right beside each other, it is the funniest visual contrast.
And they both have the primary colour of red, the colour of passion and pain and suffering and obsession because they are both passionate and pained and suffering and obsessed and they fit together so well, with Leonardo seeing exactly what Klaus needs, they are a functionally perfect duo.
And they trust each other so much, SO MUCH. Leo trusts Klaus more than anyone else in the office (he SAYS SO in the manga) and Klaus trusts what Leo says without a second thought (partially because he is just that type of guy) and Leo is constantly and consistently thinking about making Klaus proud of him and Klaus’ words are what give him the courage to keep moving forward and Klaus gets questioned on hiring Leo so many times but always says it’s Very Necessary and-
The mach monkey is so fucking cute I can barely even stand it. He has a little face and those big old eyes and he is the cutest little fucker ever drawn and I just want to cuddle and snuggle him for forever because Leo could have killed him and chose to look beneath the surface level of the situation and saved him and he is just a little itty bitty monkey who is perfect in every way and I love him with my whole heart and then some because how did someone draw such a perfect creature-
Anyway. I’ve been a tad into Blood Blockade Battlefront recently.

I wanna try my hand at redesigning some Sonic characters for fun :D I'm also throwing headcanons into the mix with these designs (which are still sticking close to canon events in the Sonic timeline and I'm gonna blab about them a tiny bit
Headcanons:
Sonic basically adopted Tails when he was a baby/toddler (taking inspo from the old cartoon) and even though they act very brotherly towards each other Tails also looks up to Sonic like a fatherly figure to him sometimes. Sonic can also act a little bit like a dad sometimes towards Tails because the little buddy means a lot to him. Playing with the idea that Tails might just straight up be a kitsune, which is why he has two tails, and whatever magic comes with being a kitsune enables him to be able to fly with them Sonic is like 17 or 18 at this point and Tails is 11 or 12 Sonic held Tails on his lap a lot when he first got him so sometimes that still happens so their friends will just walk in to Tails curled up on Sonic (you know the cinnamon roll position) while he's watching TV and this is just considered normal Sonic doesn't understand half the stuff Tails does sometimes but still gives him as much praise as possible just so that Tails never feels like an outsider again Tails will carry an emergency chili dog in the bag he carries because he knows Sonic loves them
and now the design rambles:
For starters I gave Tails a lot of blue accessories because I learned recently that Tails was originally supposed to have blue shoes but due to limited abilities in the first Sonic games they had to make them red or else they'd turn yellow whenever Sonic went super Also blue is just a really good color on Tails He also gets goggles and a little bandana because he's in the air a lot and I know some pilots will wear these to protect their eyes and keep their necks warm since that's a lot of wind and at a decent altitude and then a lil bag for carrying his gadgets Also Tails is kitsune inspired so I tried to model some facial features after that, like his eyes and then some little eyebrows and then overall coloration based more closely to an actual fox cause I think it makes him look fun :)
And now onto Sonic the man I gave him a ring bag to hold rings in that I like to think he's had forever since he needs some way to carry them, it doesn't get used as much now though because the ring bracelets were made by Tails to collect rings and convert them into ring energy, which is something used for speed boosting in the modern games The ring earring is honestly just for style The things on his arms and legs are both to fix that issue with his arms, said issue being the fact that Sega made them tan so they'd be visible against his body but they do make appearances as blue in the old cartoon so why not make them blue but put something on them to make them visible? My idea is that these accessories hold the ring energy in them and will glow blue on the blue parts when they're charged. Honestly though they're mainly just for the arm issue and to look cool. and yes, his eyes are separated. I just think it can look really nice, the movie Sonic pulled it off pretty nicely after all. I've also seen that some people are offput by it so I thought it'd be a nice change.

Note
my go to fun facts are about sonic, of course, im trying i swear, but uhhh
in 1992's sonic cartoon there's an episode that is through and through an exploration of the familial relationship between sonic and tails which ends with sonic declaring how much he loves him. the cartoon is so dumb and so goofy but i get so emotional thinking about sonic lifting tails up and spinning him around and saying "i love you little buddy"
for no discernible reason, in the 1993 cartoon eggman's real name was julian. it was never julian before then or again afterward to my knowledge. at one point though it was ovi kintobor which is just a reversal of ivo robotnik, his actual name
one episode of sonic x has eggman drink a raw egg floating in vinegar, i don't know what it means but it's disgusting
eggman's favorite food was said in 1992 to be raw eggs
sonic's bandana he wears in one like 3 second scene in the first sonic movie has the logo for the original game on it
silver the hedgehog's theme song is about a gay relationship which i've always taken to mean silver is gay
sonic has a dimensional counterpart who's a princess, that plus him being a prince in underground and king arthur in one of the storybook games (don't ask) implies he may be lost royalty
despite fans often assuming sonic hates amy and is constantly brushing her off for that reason, he actually sees her as very capable, a hero in her own right, a great addition to his team, and a very good friend of his who he cares for dearly, even if her crush is unrequited, and he actually hasn't been shown to be as cold to amy as most people remember for a long time
sonic is a werewolf in one game
amy's "team of three" group consists of a tiny girl named cream, a big, soft and somewhat dim witted cat named big, and amy herself, their connecting thread seems to be their kindness and desire to help those they love, but not really fitting into any other team. amy has a sibling relationship with both of them.
eggman is lightly implied to be queer in a twitter q&a where his past romantic partner was referred to with gender neutral language
i know nothing about sonic but i love these
tails is a sweet little baby and he deserves love
who the Fuck eats raw eggs. i mean i guess his name is eggman so of course they'd make his favorite food eggs but raw,,,
silver and eggman said queer rights
i feel like fandoms can't let a character have an unrequited crush without either deciding that the character with a crush is pathetic/a yandere/etc or that the character they're crushing on is cruel/hateful/etc which is so irritating. not every crush has to be reciprocated!!
i've seen cream before!! she's so cute, i'm glad she has a lil found family

Yang's Least Favorite Day
Yang: *lets out a crestfallen sigh* It's that day again... *she reaches out to grab a framed picture of a younger her, Summer Rose, and a baby Ruby*
Ruby: Yang, do you wanna come to Mom's grave with me?
Yang: *shakes her head* Nah, not on Mother's Day. It's...shit, it's too painful. *she blinks as a 'CAW' can be heard* The hell?
*the two sisters turn to their window, seeing a peculiar raven with a red ribbon tied to its head*
Yang: Raven?! Will you fuck off!? I'm mourning the woman who was actually there for me!

The things you do for love
Ruby: Dear Gods...
Weiss: I'm seeing things, right?
Blake: *covering her nose* What a horrible stench!
Yang: *stares wide-eyed* H-Holy fuck!
Nora: Um...what the heck is this supposed to be!? *points to the 'food' before them*
Tumblr media
Noel: Ramen noodles! I've made them myself!
Yang: Noellers, the water in ramen isn't supposed to be that color. *she yelps as a suddenly bubbles up* It certainly doesn't move like that either.
Ruby: *slowly pushes her bowl away from her* Yeah, it's nice you cooked for us, Noel...but I'm not eating this.
Weiss: These are practically health hazards!
Blake: I'm honestly surprised someone hasn't arrested you yet for this kind of cooking.
Jaune: *walks in* Guys, why does it smell like a fish died in here? *turns to Noel and her 'cooking'* Um, Noel, what's this?
Noel: Ramen that I've worked very hard on, I've also decided to add tuna to the mix.
Blake: *hisses* Such heresy!
Jaune: It looks...different from other Ramen I've seen...
*Team RWBY & Nora shakes their heads to Jaune*
Jaune: *gulps and grabs a bowl of the 'ramen'* Well, I've had Ren's algae shake once, this can't be too bad.
Nora: *covers her eyes* I can't watch!
*one, inevitable food poisoning later*
Jaune: *slowly opens his eyes in a hospital bed* Ugh, my stomach...Oh, Gods!
Noel: Jaune! Thank goodness, you're okay! *pulls him into a hug*
Jaune: Noel, hon, next time...let someone else cook or order take out.

Little is a Friend, Not Food
Ruby: Guys! This is Little! *gestures to the mouse on her shoulder*
Yang: *beams* Aww, hey lil' buddy.
Weiss: *frowns* Ruby, why in the name of the Gods are you letting vermin touch you?
Ruby: C'mon, Weiss. He's nice. Isn't that right, Little? *turns to see the mouse absent from her shoulder* Little!?
*Frantically searches for her new mousey companion, then smells...*
Ruby: PEPPER?! *turns to the source and gasps*

BLAKE!? WHAT THE FUDGE!?
Blake: *hums happily as she seasons Little* Mouse meat is yummy, and it's really good in my tummy~
Ruby: *charges towards her, gripping Crescent Rose tightly* LITTLE IS A FRIEND, NOT FOOD!

3 and 9 for the artist asks....
3. What ideas come from when you were little
Not so much any stories but a lot of my characters come from when I was little! I always keep them!
They’ll change a lot over the years but if I make a character and give them a name and a story etc, after that I never really have the heart to get rid of them even if I don’t use them anymore
So kinda like! My oldest character Aimlei
They were a club penguin character! But also, simultaneously they were a sonic character
They were pretty much the same in both versions- overly powerful, lil bit edgy- y’know. Typical baby’s first oc
Tumblr media
^current vs old designs
I just never have the heart to get rid of my funny guys
I can list a few older characters that I’ve had for a long time
Aimlei, Buddy, Nick, Cole, Salem, Mary, Mars, marm , Dewey, Harvey, Casper, Cross, Atlantic, Bentley, Button, Sprocket, Ghost, Enoch, Oishi, Lemon, Necromancer, Ned, Panic, Scampi, Sherbert, Tain, Vinny and Zip
I love this buncha freaks so much
9. What are your file name conventions
With procreate I generally don’t name my files actually, they’re all untitled
But if I save a commission I save it to my pc and it usually goes
(Character name) by (artist name)
So I can remember who’s drawn it
When I used to draw on paint tool SAI tho! I used to name all my files by a number and characters name, I could never remember what I’d named a file if I named a file by some random ass title
So to make it easier for myself I’d just list the characters in the drawing and put what number it was in the order of things- I think I got to like 800+ before I finally got an ipad

Its time for me to spout a bunch of nonsense about my kids and then disappear
Nessie boy <3
His lack of emotion besides smile or frown he is completely head empty
Goes from using two hands to one hand SSB4 -> SSBU (More adept PSI user maybe)
His idle animation (thinking) Could be concentrating perhaps mind reading or allusion to placing the soundstone to his head
Shorter than toon link, not that I draw them on model
Does that look back thing Mega, Young, Toon, and Link do - what's he looking for? (Lucas does the foot thing TL and YL do too its 😭)
His accent is baller hope he never stops
Exploded a stone statue with his mind but won't kill real Porky because why would he I would :'(
Young Link ( ͒꒪̛ཅ꒪̛ ͒)
Looks tall! I don't think hes taller than he was in Melee but he looks less small. Must be all that Lon Lon milk🦵
Taller than Mario and Sonic and I think its great
He's the only one (?) who doesnt get a peaceful sleep,, seems like he always has nightmares :(
Pink, orange, and teal colors are really good additions (and the teal one has pants/leggings my son cold)
Unfortunate that they couldn't use Fierce Deity as a Final Smash or costume but hey he's in the game and that's all I care about
His lil nose flick victory pose feels like something Sonic would do and he looking cocky - Speaking of Sonic his tail wags when he crouches ;;;;-;;;;
He's got some of the most intense screams (HWs is an even better example) and i constantly remember that he is not OK
He's what canonically eight or something like that and therefore he is the most baby despite that I make him older than that my ages are 🌀funky🌀 and you have to live with that
Pit/Dark Pit :^)
We all know Dark Pit uses more intense eyeliner but the tiny lashes on both of them gets me
I hate they got rid of the red and pink colors for Pit and Pittoo may they rest in peace (On the other hand they fixed Dark Pit's colors between games so i GUESS something good happened)
Kazuya throwing Pit off the cliff-
Pit talking about Young Link and having his own existential crisis (imagine his reaction to the entire zelda timeline)
So the japanese voices,,, Dark Pit's Star KO sounds eerily similar to a villain scream he might as well be a member of Team Rocket
Dark Pit cutting in for Wolf's guidance JUST to say he's not buddy-buddy with Pit
Dark Pit and Pit should only ever fight on Palutena's Temple or the Fountain of Dreams. You're mind will be blown when you find out the reason why
Sometimes I wish Viridi was playable so I could bully Pit and Palutena for their unreasonable rudeness at Arlon
And I've already said this moons and moons ago but again Dark Pit and Young Link stand in almost the same position in their art I swear they're besties
Toon Link (arguably my favorite????)
A lot of his animations were updated between Four and Ultimate and i mean look at him
Tumblr media
His hair actually moves like hair without being as weird looking as it was in Brawl (sorry if you like the Brawl models but they kinda dirty love despite it being the best game IMO)
Young Link's Triforce explodes into what looks like shards of glass, while Toon Link's explodes into cheese triangles
HIS FEET CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT HIS FEET THEY'RE LITTLE NUBS ITTY BITTY TINY BABY FEET
They changed his down smash and I will never forgive them >:( Forward's okay though
If ONLY they added that terrifying Monster Hunter X Toon Link as an alternate costume it would have been real cute but instead there are three greens
I never understood why Toon Link's Dair was the most straightforward yet Link bounces,, shouldn't Toon Link be the one that bounces???? And why isn't he in Mario Kart

Forgotten stories 1:Baby angel (Mortal instruments)
Jace stared at his birth father, mouth open in shock. the older blond was all grins however as he held up a pair of short-all's and a diaper shirt on a coat hanger with one hand, and was holding a pack of special adult diapers with the other. His father had been talking about how much he wanted to be back in jace's life and Jace himself was more then open for that (lord knew he could use the break from demon slaying) but then his dad had suggested starting from the beginning, at which point he had pulled out the embarrassing garments. Jace couldn't help but notice, even in his shock that the diapers in question were call lil stinkers, and the pack had a boy not much older then himself all scrunchie face and clearly dumping a load in the back of his nursery print diapers..with the pack boasting about it's heavy duty capacity and it's new and improved smell blockers "Sooo..what do you think?" Stephen asked, as it had been a full 20 seconds now since his son had said anything. "..Are you on crack!?" "..Not the answer i was hoping for, but we can work with it.. No sweetie, daddy isn't on any drug but the love you bring into his life!" "..No really, what are you on? should i be checking the trash for needles?" "Sweetie your starting to hurt daddies feelings." "You wanna put me back in diapers and dress me up like a baby!" "Well no, thats not true." "..YOU HAVE SHORTALLS AND DIAPERS! How is that NOT a baby!?" "because I'ma make you a toddler. totally different." ".. I'm checking the trash cans." "enough, come on, I really think that you letting me dress you up will help us bond. give me ONE day, just one!" stephen pleaded and set the items down, bringing his hands together to beg. "Ngggh..One day.. and I'm not craping myself." jace said, looking at the outfit and well, maybe a small tiny itty bitty little part of him was wondering just what the diapers would feel like. "Deal!"
20 minutes later and Jace, the more powerful of all of those with angel blood.. was staring at himself in the mirror with a red face. the thick diapers pushed his legs apart and the black shortall's simply bulged trying to contain the double thick diapering he'd gone under. (and when he had tried to whine that one was enough, Stephen had merely pointed out that since it was for one day only, he wanted maxamin diaper butt cuteness..unless jace was willing to make it three day. at which point Jace had huffed and hugged the chicken stuffie his daddy had handed him) Stephen had even quickly checked jace's core temp while diapering him, slipping a finger in and out of his sons butt hole a few times and jace could almost swear there was still a finger or SOMETHING up there! his white diaper shirt did go along nice with the shortalls, and his power ranger socks and sonic sneakers (velco of course) had his crinkling and really looking like a big baby. 'toddler.' he reminded himself and huffed, clutching chickenboo (so what if he had named the stuffie already?) closer to his chest. "You look so friggen cute!" Stephen gushed, coming up behind his son and kissing the big toddler's cheek, making him squirm. "Daddy.." jace whined, but a little smile broke out. "So ready to go to the park and play?" Stephen asked, and ducked from the swing of death (trademark pending) that came from jace using Chickenboo. "take it thats a no." Stephen chuckled. "No outside!" "But daddy wants to push you on the swing set!" "NO.OUT.SIDE!" huffed the pouty boy who was glaring now. "how about a deal? if you can keep your diapies clean for a hour, then no outside. you go tinkle or boom boom.." Stephen trailed off and smiled. "..fine! but first me and chicken boo are going and checking the trash cans." "..for the last time, i'm not on smack!"
after checking the trash can's anyways, Chickenboo and jace settled down in the living room, sitting on the floor with his sneakers still on (just in case he decided he wanted to play outside according to daddy, like THAT was gonna happen) and watching cartoon while Daddy made them lunch. Seeing that it was Grilled cheese and fries jace put on a polite face, as he would of preferred some Chinese take out but then again he likely would of ended up having to answer the door and then would of had to kill the delivery boy to keep rumors of this from spreading, so it was for the best. the sandwich was mostly good till he got to the middle, where he started to gag and choke and Stephen was there in a instant, patting his back and asking if he was ok before Jace was finally able to spit up what had started to gag him, a slice of cucumber! "are you trying to poison me!?" the huffy big toddler whined in the aftermath. "..are you allegoric to them?" "No! but their GROSS! and Yucky!" Jace huffed and whined, then used part of the blanket he had been sitting on to wipe his touge to clear off the icky cucumber taste. '...and he wonders why I think he's perfect for being a big toddler.'
it wasn't too long after that though that jace had gone from playing with chickenboo, sitting up on the couch with daddy to bolt up and dashing for the bathroom. 'I was wondering when those would kick in.' Stephen thought, casually strolling up behind Jace who was now in the bathroom, whining and struggling with the shortalls, and pooting up a storm. "oh my, sounds like somebody could use some help!" "G-Guhh..Daddy come on! I'm gonna crap myself!" Jace whined and pleaded. "well you ARE diapered so that would be ok.. butttt I guess i'll be nice and let you use A potty." Stephen said. "thank you thank you thank you!" Jace mewed and turned so daddy could get the stupid frigging buckles undo for him. "but we'll have to go back out to the living room." Stephen added. "...but the toilets right here!" JAce whined and let out a LOUD fart that had the boy hunching over, a look of panic on his face. "The adult potty is, you're potty is in a closet in the living room. do you wanna argue with daddy and poop your diapies, or listen like a good boy and go boom boom in a potty?" "Big boy! big boy!" "heh. then take daddies hand." Stephen said and held his hand out. moaning and whining, jace limped behind Stephen as they headed back for the living room, he was on the verge of losing it and it was only his angel blood that had kept him from disgracing himself this far. the potty was a stupid DUCK and Jace instantly hated it, but compared to his other option he knew he couldn't be picky.. Daddy got his shortalls off and then undid the snaps on the diaper shirt as jace whimpered and whined, almost on the verge of tears. "Dadddy hurry! I can't hold it much longer!" the big baby whined, wetting his diapers as he struggled to hold his poopies in and then the diapers were tugged down and off, along with everything else and in just his socks and sneakers Jace plopped down on the duck potty, grabbing the handles and crying out as wave after wave of hot sludge erupted from his bottom. "P-P-Pooooping daddddy!" "yup, you sure are. on the potty! such a big boy!" Stephen said and kissed jac'es forehead as the poor boy was unloading everything in his guts. the smell quite frankly was awful, but to Stephen it was victory and he decided to hold off mentioning that the wet diapers meant they could go to the park. a weak trickle of urine mixed with the poopies and with a final spurting fart, Jace just leaned against the potty, panting and sweating. "wow, i'm shocked you still have your bones after that!" Stephen teased and got a weak glare from Jace. "Just..Just hand me some tp, a ice pack and let me mourn for my butt hole." Jace mumbled. "Cute. but little guys don't wipe themselves. you strong enough to stand up and bend over for daddy?...for me to wipe your butt..just realized how that sounds." stephen said, then added the second part quickly. "..I'd kick your butt but I just down have the power right now." Jace mumbled weakly and slowly got himself standing and bent over, closing his eyes tight as stephen wiped his now slightly gaping asshole with the little guy all clean, stephen led him to the bedroom, still naked save for his feet and noted that Jace looked half out of it, rubing a eye and yawning lots. not a dsingle argument was given as daddy laid him on the bed and tugged his shoes and socks off, then got the big toddler in a fresh diaper (only one this time and then handed jace chickenboo. "I think somebody could use a little nap." Stephen said and kissed jace's cheek as the oversized toddler blushed and snuggled into the stuffie. "am..kinda sleepy.." "Have a good sleep buddy. daddy love you~" Stephen coo'ed. "..Love you too daddy." the strongest demon slayer in the world mewed, then as daddy tugged the curtains closed and tip toed out, Jace drifted off to dreamland, with one last thought echoing in his head. 'Maybe this isn't so bad after all..'

One of the saddest days of my life was yesterday.
Everything was a regular day well what I wanted to be a regular day. I had gone to sleep early the night before so that I could wake up early to get my shit in order and maybe start filling in the hole I have dug myself into, and it was going smoothly I did the dishes I was running a mile a day less games more peeping as I am planning to join the Air Force. My cats had been out all night as they do love to escape to the outside world whatever chance you give them. I have two one for about 7 years his name is Simba because he has a beautiful orange coat and big orange eyes that depending on his mood would either be that of a full moon or a disappointed dad. The best part is no matter how much I smothered him or annoyed him he always slept next me either that or he’d be my pillow cause he’s a great fatty, an absolute unit if you will. So anyways I let them in gave them some food and water and played around with simba for awhile before settling in for some league of legends in my room (which is basically his) he wonders in to my room and cuddles up on the foot of my bed closets to my computer table so he can keep an eye on me a couple games later after a very hard game which we just managed to win I jump up to celebrate noticing my lil fat baby sleeping so obviously I go to pet him but something was difrent he usually does a lil readjusting to show his belly and curls up in a half moon paws up but this time nothing. I wasn’t gonna have that so I kept rubbing when I noticed he wasn’t breathing so I push on his lil cheat to wake him up but nothing no meowing, no moving, no resistance just nothing. I try to pick him up but he’s limp he’s head stuck to the the pile of drool that had seeped out of his mouth his eyes blank. I tried cpr, calling to him, Massaging him but nothing. All this in sonic as I realize what’s happened years flowing down my face I yell for my pops who was probably the only one who loved him more than me. I remember seeing his face change mid sentance as he I cut him off from telling me not to be so loud people are still sleeping to a panic worried expression as he followed me to my room. We took him to a 24/7 emergency veterinarian near my house. I wrapped him up in a towel of mine because I already knew I’m my heart it’s too late. Tears streaming down my face as my family and I rushed to the vet. I sat there with my baby in my arms trying to keep my fattys head from dangling. I held him like a baby supporting his head and body as every fucking bump reminded me that he would never again cuddle me, muzzle me, groom me like I was his own, meow at me and nibble my legs when he wanted food. I would never again be able to hug my simba to the point where I just had to flex because I didn’t want to hurt him. I won’t wake up with him on my bed. I won’t open the door blocking the opening with my foot as I mission impossible my way in to prevent him from bolting his agile fat ass out my door. As those thoughts filled my head I answered the vets question of “have you been here before? can we have his name your number?” I had to answer because my pops and old man whose heart was breaking couldn’t respond. So I had to through the tears while holding my best friend my buddy my son my simba in my fucking arms. A vet walks out with a stethoscope to check his heart beat but their was none, nothing to hear. He hands him back to me head down saying sorry and moving on. They give me and my family a room to say our good byes. 30 minutes of just crying and petting and my mom just rubbing his chest waiting for the miracle I had asked god to bring my simba back to us to come true... but this want a movie or a game this is the real world and the dead stay dead. Later on a clerk walks in asking what we wanted to do she said they can cremate him but I wanted to bury my baby and home where he belongs. I also asked if they could make a paw imprint but they had stopped doing that so I carried my simba back in my arms until we got home I but him inside his favorite cardboard box that hadn’t been utterly recked. And as my pops went to

hallo it’s me your trash queen jack back with another gorl ! you know the drill below the cut is info on my newest babs remi along with some wanted connections i’d love for her uwu ! smash that lil heart and i’ll slide into your ims or discord for plots ( probably tomorrow tbh a girl is wiped ) ! i also don’t have her pinterest board done and i feel so off brand ....
Tumblr media
history ;
so if you haven’t figured it out already she’s moonie’s little sister ! if you want a full well written out backstory rather then my tid bits on their family check out his intro here !
both of her parents were lawyer with a lil con side business on the side
they both brought moonie and remi into their cons at a young age. while moonie took to it swimmingly, sadly remi did not. it wasn’t that she didn’t have the skills it’s just that she didn’t want to ?? to her it was too much work and never really interested her, so her parents were quick to be like uH yah do your own thing and while moonie was dragged further and further into bigger cons remi left it alone. low key though she can still use the manipulation skills she learned when she wants.
remi from a young age was a lil stubborn binch, you know that dance mom’s quote “i just want to stay home and eat chips” that was baby ( and probably older ) remi in a nutshell. she just wanted to stay home sit on the couch and play video games. interacting with people was never ever her strong suit, unless it was via a headset or chat room.
remi was fourteen when her parents were arrested and she really wasn’t sure what to think, for a while she didn’t fully understand what had happened.
she got along a lot better with her grandparents then moonie mostly because she never really did anything??? she was a real boring high schooler, the only thing they probably ever really got on to her about was staying up all night or sucking the internet.
she breezed through school and is actually v smart but when college came she was like uhhhhhhh huh and didn’t know what to do so instead she decided to follow in her brother footsteps and go to west bridge.
she’s currently a film student and wants to be a producer or smth when she grows up.
moonie was the one who dragged her to manon’s that night in an attempt to try to get her to interact with the college life instead of holing up in their apartment ( they live together uwu )
personality ;
ok so she big nerd
loves video games if you can’t tell, almost majored in video game design. her favs are overwatch, super smash, and sonic. plays online for hours on end, usually has a headset on her head and a coke in her hand. sometimes streams when she’s feeling frisky.
never really been in any relationships and is really dumb when it comes to love. you probably have to scream at her if you’re flirting with her or want to go out with her
a total film snob but also the biggest star wars fan you’ll ever meet pls watch it with her
has a goofy laugh snorts a lil
close w her older brother and doesn’t show it she’s fiercely protective of him
drugs??? she don’t know those somebody pls introduce her
probably has sonic posters on her wall
a classic rock fan
is that asshole that thinks being popular is overrated and will tell you, conforming to the status quo NO thanks
is a NERVOUS wreck over the secret they’re keeping and is too scared of everyone to ever say anything
wanted connections ; all open to m/f/nb !
crushed on by remi ; i really want somebody who remi has big ass Dumb crush on and since she hasn’t really done relationships she be a big idiot about it
ex-significant other ; i hc she has only had one or possibly 2 relationships, she’d probably be a dummy about them and be clingy sometimes and then forget to text back bc she’s in a game
gaming buddy / partner ; ppl come over and play video games with her!!!
somebody trying to get under her skin ; i basically just imagine somebody who is constantly bothering her trying to understand her and get her out of her dorm, maybe even in a romantic way they could be trying to hookup / flirt w her idk
bad influence ; even tho moonie is a bad influence in himself, gimme somebody who forcing her out of her dorm and out into the world!!!
ride or die ; just besties bc we all love some good ole besties
muse ; this would be somebody that she gets a lot of inspiration from and often asks them to be in her short films, etc
online friend ; how cute would it be if they met online gaming or a forum or smth and just became like online besties?? they could know they go to the same school or not!
rival ; could be via video games, another connect, school, etc she is just a competitive person
dislike ; she’s very against the status quo unlike jo so if you muse is very into that there’s a good chance remi has mutter something dumb under her breath about them
acquaintance ; she doesn’t get out much..... so she doesn’t have a lot of friend so maybe they’re in the same class or something, write a blooming friendship w me pls
connection via her brother ; idk if your muse has an intense connection with moonie it could def overlap with remi considering how close they are, we love drama in this household
gimme gimme everything !!!!

The Top 10 Best Hit Songs of 2020
Screw your introductions. It’s 2020, we haven’t got time for a pre-amble. This is the best list.
Tumblr media
THE TOP 10 BEST HIT SONGS OF 2020
For 2018 and 2017, I did four massive lists with at least 10 songs each discussed in depth for the end of the year. I’m proud of them and I stick by them but they’re tedious to write and read. You really need some kind of visual medium for them to work that well, at least in my style of year-end lists. Thankfully, there are hundreds of people doing just that so instead, I’m just going to take 10 songs I remember from the predicted year-end list and ramble about them in hopefully a more precise way. Let’s start with... oh, for f—
#10
“I Hope” – Gabby Barrett
Peak: #3
I don’t like country music, or really get country music. I’m British, I’m not supposed to, but as I do watch charts I see country music gaining increased prominence on the charts, in an era of streaming I didn’t think it could really cope with. I’m using SailorCharts’ predictions for the Billboard Year-End Hot 100; this is at #10, which is crazy to me. That’s probably thanks to that nonsensical Charlie Puth remix but let’s ignore that for the sake of my sanity. “I Hope” is vindictive, overly harsh and absolutely repulsive. It shows an uglier side to Gabby Barrett that you’d usually only be able to see if you look up her political views, but that’s what makes it so uniquely cathartic to me. This is a person who I disagree with heavily on a moral principle ripping off a middling Carrie Underwood track with blown-out, compressed and really gross production... but that’s 2020 for you. It’s hard to listen to with a straight face or without turning it off, but you have to endure it. You have to listen to this woman croakily belt her overlong chorus until the melody of that hook grounds itself into your mind, and you remember that climax point. “And then I hope she cheats”. Barrett isn’t destroying the guy’s sports car as a metaphor for her revenge fantasy like Underwood, she is just completely upfront about how much she wants this guy to be left emotionally distraught by this new relationship out of pure spite. Nothing represents the constant aggravation of 2020 finally releasing and expressing all of the fears and anger society has kept curled up until they were forced to isolate for the sake of common human respect and dignity, and the fact that people are adamant that they’ve had enough of oppression, inequality and the elite, than those squealing guitars in the second chorus and Barrett’s raspy delivery. This song is far from perfect – I’ve seen many argue it’s not good at all – but it feels necessary this year as an avenue for the public to vent their frustration. Now let’s do that with someone who isn’t a Trump supporter.
#9
“The Bigger Picture” – Lil Baby
Peak: #3
Yeah, speaking of songs being necessary, I admire Lil Baby, a person with a platform who people, especially the youth, will listen to, for making a protest song like this. Regardless of how many rappers express their grievances about racial inequality and societal issues, the person with the biggest and most impactful voice will always matter the most to me. The most important issue Baby gets at here is that racism isn’t new or simple. It’s complex. It’s deep-seated. It’s systematic. It exists in the very way people function under their governments and how people live their lives and do business. Even me mentioning business is a sign of how capitalism undermines the struggle for the economy. Lil Baby speaks from his own experience in Atlanta and gets to the heart of real Black struggle in the United States, with the inherent fear and defiance that many young Black men have of the police and authority, regardless of background or criminal record (oftentimes non-existent, unlawful or directly targeted). Sure, he dips his toe into some centrist ideas, which I’m not a fan of, but they aren’t rooted in this “why can’t we all get along?” crap often spouted by those who don’t want to see social upheaval affect the money flow. It’s not just rich old white dudes either, look at Lil Pump, Lil Wayne and Kanye West, and how buddied up they got with Trump for their own desperate financial security and outright refusal, in many ways hypocritical, to help the working-class and the disadvantaged. They’re only disadvantaged because of the elite. It should not be an inherent birth right to be impoverished, but that’s how we live, and I admire Baby for attempting to make a change over the melancholy pianos and trap skitters. Oh, and yeah, he’s flowing and spitting over this. He’s not boring and overly pretentious. He’s engaging. He makes you want and need to listen to him because he, like many Black people in America and oppressed minority groups worldwide, has got something to say. We’ve got to start somewhere. Black lives matter. Now for some honourable mentions.
Honourable Mentions
Let’s have a lighter tone, perhaps, for these next few entries, but first, let’s run through some honourable mentions, in no particular order other than where they are on the predicted Hot 100.
“Blinding Lights” – The Weeknd
This song has already been talked about to death, by about March, so I’d be doing a disservice to discuss it here.
“Don’t Start Now” – Dua Lipa
Same here. This is a weird list because whilst this would be in the top five if I had more to say about it, I don’t have much to say about it other than how it is a perfectly composed pop song. I want to discuss songs I actually care about on a level more than pure sonic enjoyment, so make of that what you will.
“ROCKSTAR” – DaBaby featuring Roddy Ricch
Roddy Ricch should be absolutely treasured while he’s still here.
“Life is Good” – Drake and then Future
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about pop music in 2020 it is that Future, when he’s on, is an absolute monster. Anyway, more honourable mentions soon, and let’s hop back onto the list proper.
#8
Screw it, it’s my list.
“All I Want for Christmas is You” – Mariah Carey
Peak: #1
At the start of this year in January, it felt like just another monotonous routine of a year that started exactly how it would end: with apathy about the world in ruins. This is true for most years but 2020 decided to spice it up a little with... you know... 2020, and all of its pandemics, riots and chaos. So, for just a short time, can I talk about a song that provides absolute joy to absolutely everyone? It peaked at #1 at Christmas in 2019, which was part of the 2020 chart year, and it’s on the predicted list, so it counts and it is an incredible song that reaches into the holiday festivities with manufactured cynicism, before plunging into that jolly bag of cash and producing the most organically happy Christmas song ever. The song is, by name, not even about Christmassy commercialism, and rejects it entirely, with how Carey croons beautifully about how she isn’t asking for gifts, snow or Santa Claus. It’s telling how a single about wanting personal connection every holiday season is the biggest Christmas song of all time instead of any of the other schlock that gets reissued and has a resurgence in this time of year. It helps that it is a gorgeous and intricately composed song with that mellow intro building up into the sleigh bells and pounding percussion carrying the wonderfully 90s strings. This is a timeless classic and I’m so glad it’s a Christmas standard, for what it stands for as well as it being just an amazing song that really only comes around every so often to be a bonafide smash hit everyone loves and appreciates... except maybe every retail worker since December 1994. Walmart is a cesspit anyway, I assume that bile can be chalked up to overplay and negative connotations, of which this song on its own in a vacuum, has absolutely none.
#7
“We Paid” – Lil Baby and 42 Dugg
Peak: #10
How do I even...? I mean... just listen to the song. It clicks. I’d love to leave it there but I am obliged to ramble so... I find this song impossible to explain. I mean, it’s just “We Paid” by Lil Baby and 42 Dugg, an absolute anomaly. It’s barely a song, with a chorus unrecognisable from its verses, two nasal and uninteresting vocalists, flows I’ve heard before and clearly rushed, awkward bass mastering and mixing overall... yet it’s so, so addictive. It’s all about that intro for me, where it starts with a whistle and off-beat, complete nonsense producer tags and pre-verse rambling from 42 Dugg, before the bass kicks in and it just hits so hard. I couldn’t care less about any single line after “’Fore I go broke like Joc”, and I don’t have to. Both Dugg and Baby have stiff flows but are full of character that is so, so necessary over this menacing trap beat that survives only off of the melody so incredibly low in the mix I can’t tell what it’s even trying to be. Oh, and, while we’re here...
“24” – Money Man, remixed by Lil Baby
Peak: #49
This is good for a lot of the same reasons, and wasn’t even a hit. I just wanted to highlight this song for many of the same reasons I really love “We Paid”. It’s a complete nobody rapping robotically over a trap beat that bumps but only because of the cadence and charisma of the two rappers here... which is kind of non-existent in both songs. It relies on the flows, and they’re just kind of monotonous after each of the iconic opening lines. It’s also telling that this chorus acknowledges two Black men who have since become iconic in their fields and died within a month of each other, those being Kobe Bryant and Pop Smoke, may they rest in peace. It’s pretty tragic, actually, and adds a sense of depth to the braggadocious triumph these deflated singles attempt to convey. I am bemused by these songs and whilst you can try to fully understand popular music to the point of deep analysis and Genius annotations, the best music has a sense of mystery and intrigue, at least to me, and something about the whistle in “We Paid” and the vocoded guitar line in “24” makes these two tracks incredibly replayable. Also, you know, Lil Baby’s verse on “24” might be the verse of the year.
Honourable Mentions #2
The sequel is never as good as the original. Regardless, here are some more honourable mentions.
“WHATS POPPIN” – Jack Harlow, remixed by DaBaby, Tory Lanez and Lil Wayne
This guy is a bad omen. “I’mma spend this holiday locked in” is an eerie prediction of this dour year. Also DaBaby is awesome when he tries.
“Roses” – SAINt JHN, remixed by Imanbek
The original song is dreadful, I have no idea how this Kazakh house DJ pulled this remix off but it is a massive improvement from about every possible angle you could think of.
“10,000 Hours” – Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber
That’s well over a year, like that’s 416.7 days. These guys are devoted... and honestly kind of scary.
“Ballin’” – Mustard featuring Roddy Ricch
Chorus of the year.
“Blueberry Faygo” – Lil Mosey
This song is awful, absolutely reprehensible, with no redeeming factors and a clear lack of effort put into anything in the song itself... but at least it’s optimistic. At least it sounds happy and like a true Song of the Summer, and, oh, my God, we needed that this year.
#6
“Lemonade” – Internet Money and Gunna featuring NAV and Don Toliver
Peak: #6
NAV is on my best list. NAV is on a year-end list. NAV has a #1 hit in the United Kingdom, Portugal and Greece. NAV, the Brown Boy himself, has one of the biggest hits of both 2020 and 2021, given that this isn’t caught between years, and I’m not complaining because this song is a riot. I did say that this list wasn’t based on pure sonic enjoyment but I’m going to throw that absolutely out the window for this one. If anything, “Blinding Lights” and “Don’t Start Now” aren’t on the list out of pure fatigue, because this song is just as incredible as it sounded on release, with that slick, watery acoustic guitar coating a light trap skitter and bouncy 808s. That’s a description I could use about most hip-hop this year, but “Lemonade” has this liquid-smooth quality to it and it is safe to say that NAV and Gunna fill up all of the space available in their container here, whatever that means. NAV, for once, co-opts a flow that sounds great from his whiny Canadian mumble, mostly because he takes Don Toliver’s flow from the chorus, and whilst he didn’t write this chorus, he absolutely sells it with his soulful crooning. This song is a hedonistic celebration of everything materialistic and meaningless, but it’s having fun doing it, and that is seldom seen in 2020’s trap efforts. Gunna’s flows here are playing with the beat in a way that is reminiscent of Young Thug but finally in a way that sounds uniquely interesting and fitting for Gunna, and not just straining his limited vocals out to testing out a flow that clearly doesn’t fit the guy, or settling for something a lot less engaging. Man, out of all people to be praising this year, I did not expect it to be Lil Baby, NAV and Gunna... back to back, several times. Let’s get back to people I did expect to be gushing about by the end of the year.
#5
“everything i wanted” – Billie Eilish
Peak: #8
Much like “The Bigger Picture”, this song made the list out of necessity, mostly in its lyrics. I would be absolutely selling this year short to not include one of the most thought-provoking young women in pop music on a list like this, and thankfully, she wrote a gorgeous song that I can discuss here. Firstly, the sound of this song is brilliantly subtle and intimate, with panning keys, light-weight clapping percussion and such little focus on everything surrounding Eilish’s soft, dead-pan cooing multi-tracked to add that extra depth and convincing delivery to the lyrical content, which we’ll discuss later. It’s not that this makes the song sound unfinished or lazy, or even uninteresting, because it has that degree of elevation that is necessary for a lyrically focused song like this, with the second verse starting off with just the muted 808s emphasising that intimacy that Eilish attempts to convey through the lyrics, which are mostly an ode to her and her brother’s especially close relationship. Eilish details her depression and even nightmares, relating to a lot of her music’s themes surrounding sleep paralysis and the very concept of dreaming. That first verse is heavy in content, and honestly distressing to even write about here, but it can be summarised in this: Eilish had a dream where she committed suicide by jumping off of the Golden Gate Bridge, which is a common location for these types of deaths, adding that unnerving realism to the verse. The verse may be about betrayal but you could interpret it and much of her music as a response to the press and the media, which seems to flip on how they portray and criticise her, which has been increasingly obvious this year. That makes the idea of no-one, not even her fandom and those keeping the most attention and eyes on her, caring about her suicide even more damaging and raising the stakes to something that doesn’t feel like meaningless teenage angst or even just dropping off emotional baggage. The song is, in many ways, a love song to the only person she thinks would care: her brother, FINNEAS, with the chorus reciting his words of wisdom and reassurance to Eilish as she struggles with suicidal thoughts. The verses may be a specific and detailed level of insight into her psyche, but the chorus, with its wider scope and lesser detail, doesn’t come off as unrealised. Rather, it appears motivational, to both Eilish and the audience, but with the following verse and final leg of the chorus making it incredibly clear that words mean nothing without an action to follow it up or back up what has been said. Motivation doesn’t mean a quote on a wallpaper or Genius lyrics page. It’s about the willpower and the inspiration to change the way you think about yourself and make self-improvements to battle these demons, even when it seems impossible, and if it does seem impossible, there’s always your close support bubble that can reassure you and bring you back down to Earth when it all feels so unreal and that you can’t handle it.
     Ee-ooh.
#4
“The Box” – Roddy Ricch
Peak: #1
It’s tough to go into extreme depth about the personal impact a hit song has had on your mental health and what this means for the audience of said artist, and then completely dismiss it for another wacky Young Thug clone, but I did it before – in this very list twice already – and I’ll do it again, God damn it. “The Box” is pure chaos. It starts with this triumphant brass section that sounds dusty and classic, but then you immediately hear that damned “ee-ooh” sound, barely on beat and barely holding a note. It sounds like a poor falsetto imitation of a door creaking, and it is perfect. It’s just such an engaging hook, as if the actual hooks and choruses weren’t engaging and interesting enough. There’s so many intricacies to Roddy Ricch’s performance here and his array of flows are put on display excellently over this menacing beat with that reversed 808 that sets this apart from any other trap beat, especially with the eerie keys and especially with Roddy Ricch, who delivers possibly the best performance on this list second to my #1. The song starts with that mighty, iconic hook and even with that, Roddy rejects his flow before the measure is even up, outright refusing to continue and stalling with a muted “mm” sound. The lyrics aren’t cryptic by any means but it’s not like they’re all that simple, forming some kind of trap-rap word association all about “the box”, which could really mean anything at this point. He goes for a whiny elongated ending to each line in the second part of the chorus before switching sides to elongating the middle of the line in contrast to him spitting the last few words in rapid succession with a carefree cadence that’s almost inspiringly smooth. His verses are littered with charisma and hilarious ad-libs, and that’s before he goes into that falsetto for the second half of the first verse, with a simple but joyously stiff delivery, that makes his voice get closer to cracking with every syllable. Then we have the second verse, where the dude even laughs on beat and makes it sound great. The yelping in the second verse is endearing and amazing, with the way the beat cuts off for him to belt “BITCH, DON’T WEAR NO SHOES IN MY HOUSE!” at the top of his lungs like a misogynist toddler absolutely completing the song for me, and how the beat comes in afterwards is just perfect. It’s hard to explain this song without listening to it, again, but one listen of these flows and how he plays around with the beat like a kids’ toy is enough to understand truly why this song is one of the best of this year, and that Roddy Ricch is an absolute treasure.
I’m a 2020 presidential candidate / I done put a hundred bands on Zimmerman
This might be the best lyric on this list by the way. Speaking of ridiculous trap bangers with quotable lyrics and incredible flows...
#3
“Heartless” – The Weeknd
Peak: #1
How did both of these songs hit #1? Sure, they’re trendy, they’re catchy and they’re by popular artists, but there’s something about these songs that feels so chaotic and messy, yet so grounded in reality despite how loony these guys and their performances are, including the lyrics. For “The Box”, you have 30 Roc’s pounding trap beat to make sure Roddy doesn’t completely go off the walls, and for “Heartless”, well, the same is true, but replace 30 Roc for the absolute legend of modern hip-hop production that is Metro Boomin. The intro going into the first verse is one of the highlights of pop music this year. I love how it leads you in with the mystery of the coating of reverb-drenched synths, all of which sound oddly alien, before revealing the layer of the trap beat and furthering the mystery via The Weeknd’s whispering “sheesh” ad-libs. Then, when that first verse hits, all subtlety is dismissed as excessive and unnecessary, even with that first cocky opening line, but especially when the heavy 808 bass continues to crash multiple on each bar surrounded by air horns and Abel’s never-ending luxury porn. This song is an ode to self-aware, reckless and absolutely self-indulgent materialism, highlighting its effect on not only how Abel copes (most notably with the amphetamines making his “stummy” feel “sickly”) but also on who surrounds him, particularly his inability to settle down and find a partner, and how frustrated he is with this, which is especially true in the chorus, before he puts on the disguise once again for the verses, in which he spits a list of endless excessiveness in his bars carrying as much swagger as he usually does. This song in all its maximalist production is oddly minimal in how it presents the raw psyche of the character of the Weeknd and his drug-addled mindset that couldn’t care less about the effect he has on his friends, family, women, himself or even society, as long as he has a good time... but it’s increasingly clear that he knows the impact this life style has and he understand that it makes him “heartless”, but only because that’s what he decides is directly affecting him and of course, Abel has always made sure that the character of the Weeknd is as selfish and self-obsessive as possible. It helps that this isn’t a moaning and moody piece of self-indulgent boring trap slop. It isn’t conveying a message through music that can’t represent it, it’s effectively pulling off its narrative through the whole sonic package, and you know what helps even more? It’s fun, and it’s funny, and the revealing bridge where Abel looks back at his past relationships and how this life style is a response to the damage and pain inflicted on him by said relationships, comes as a genuine shock because just seconds earlier, the guy said this:
So much pussy, it be fallin’ out the pocket
What an incredibly thought-out song, and definitely one deserving of a couple GRAMMY Awards in whatever category those racist out-of-touch elitist executives decide to retroactively slot the Weeknd into when the backlash becomes too much. With that said, here are some more honourable mentions.
Honourable Mentions #3
Now in IMAX 3-D!
“Break My Heart” – Dua Lipa
INXS are fuming.
“Good as Hell” – Lizzo
This is beautifully composed and genuinely motivating, and Lizzo has so much charisma but in 2020, I do not feel “good as hell” enough to justify this being on the list. Hey, what can I say? Truth hurts.
“Truth Hurts” – Lizzo
That failed gag was about as on-the-nose as this song itself, but Lizzo totally embraces that.
“For the Night” – Pop Smoke featuring DaBaby and Lil Baby
“Wishing Well” – Juice WRLD
I’m not a fan of these songs in particular but it would be awful of me to not include these two artists on the lists, even if it’s tragic that it has to be posthumously. Both were gone way too soon, and way too close together for it to feel anything more than distressing and really depressing. Sure, they represent two completely different issues rappers face, but the fact that the two biggest hip-hop artists of 2020 are both gone and not able to see this immense success is just a tough, bitter pill to shallow. Rest in peace to both of these men and I hope out of respect for their legacy, and out of apathy for how the record labels milk both of these audiences, that I won’t need to talk about them in the years ahead.
#2
I have just discussed a lot of important songs with meaningful concepts, deep lyrics and insight, sonically innovative instrumentals and genuine emotional trauma as the background for their creation... but when I discuss my #2 as well as my #1, I need you to keep in mind this question: what is the purpose of pop music?
#2 – “RITMO (Bad Boys for Life)” – The Black Eyed Peas and J Balvin
Peak: #26
Popular music and especially the charts should always be taken with a grain of salt. Art doesn’t necessarily mean anything without meaning appropriated to it, and that meaning has a bunch of baggage that correlates to the lyrical meaning and contextual history behind whatever is being analysed and what is being criticised or praised. The Billboard Hot 100 is a glorified stat pad, as many have pointed out, and there are flaws in the system that don’t even make it a perfectly accurate set of data. This isn’t to undermine popular music and its impact. I’m not saying Elvis Presley and his ludicrous amount of weeks at #1 is to be scoffed at, or that Michael Jackson’s Thriller is an inconsequential piece of music that shouldn’t be remembered as fondly and as often as it is. These albums and artists had a genuine effect on culture, and the society that follows it, especially in the United States’ desperate attempts at gathering an “American” culture to cope with their extreme levels of regional, ethnic and economic diversity and disparity. Neither my #2 nor #1 pick reflect that at all. In fact, “RITMO” is a laughably bad song, but to call it a song implies there is art here, when in reality this is a pure product made for a soundtrack to a mildly successful Will Smith movie, made as a cash-grab by a fading producer-rapper and a tacked-on genuine mega-star who was offered millions of pesos to rap on this dated, lazy house-adjacent reggaeton beat. This isn’t just a product, it’s packaged and not with limited edition decoration, just typical, disposable plastic that’s harmful for the environment. I’m not doing a worst list this year because I want to celebrate what remnants of fun we had in 2020, and it’s telling that a lot of these songs are from 2019 or earlier in the year, and feel like separate landscapes even. Do you seriously remember “RITMO” in any capacity? Or even the movie that it was made for? It’s almost outstanding that a song that samples a band called Corona can be so oddly tone-deaf to the current situation, and not even one of the pandemic, but one of social progression and worldwide oppression that this song ignores to sell a product... but ignorance is bliss.
#1
It’s misleading to say that 2020 started off awful in March. That would just be blatantly untrue. Hell, the virus was discovered in Wuhan in December and made its way to Europe and the United States by the time late January rolled around, and even by then the US had killed important Iranian military secretary and one of their national heroes Qasem Soleimani ostensibly on grounds of “terrorism” for the sake of a power play and risking a potential world conflict. Diplomatic incidents don’t just happen, they have reasoning and they have a background. Not even in popular music do things just happen, they follow a trend or a burgeoning genre, and if they don’t, they are pioneers of a trend that follows to varying success. You can see this in 2019 producing the biggest hit of all time with “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X, which felt like a sudden insurgency of this random country-rap pop song by a complete nobody becoming suddenly one of the most important cultural milestones in the country’s history. It’s less of a sudden event and rather an exemplification of things that were happening over time, like the dominance of streaming, conglomerates manipulating what was believed to be organic digital and social media to benefit them and the elite, the increasing saturation of white men in the country genre that has yet to improve from his bro-country years, the racism that runs rancid in the South as Republicans steer closer to extremism and anyone who can challenge them decides to clear their way to the centre or is oppressed and ignored by the government that can continue silencing them. You may say that it’s not that deep but if you talk about popular music, you absolutely have to consider its wider impact. With all that said, sometimes it’s better to live in the moment.
“Hot” – Young Thug featuring Gunna
Peak: #11
Maybe it’s bizarre for me to dismiss everything I said about the cultural impact of popular music and its existence as a product for the big three record labels as well as a milestone for culture and the audience that consumes it, just so I can put my favourite hit song at the top of the list. I would completely agree with you, and I wasn’t planning really to put this song so high until it immediately clicked in a contrast with “RITMO”. “RITMO” isn’t self-aware of its existence as purely a product and nothing else, but it’s not like that fact is hidden from you when you listen to the track. It is pure ignorance of the wider world and pure ignorance of anything that is actually and genuinely important to people across the States and across the world, but not in a way that can move people and become important. Sure, the song is fun and catchy and actually a pretty damn great song, that is why it’s so high on this list, but it’s more to represent how heavily these songs juxtapose each other. “Hot” is in equal proportions a promotion of commercialism and materialism, much like “Heartless”, but without any of the emo-adjacent moaning about fame and without any of the self-awareness... which may seem like “Hot” misses the point but it absolutely does not. “Hot” is the absolute peak of the trap genre. It’s not conceptually important, but it is a song that means the most to me in this particular period and in this particular year. The song is an album cut from 2019 that is only big because of a Travis Scott remix and SpongeBob memes, so it sets itself up to be perfectly detached from 2020, even before you hear those triumphant horns from Wheezy and the trap percussion that bumps harder than anything else on this list or in Thug’s discography. That immediate release of energy coated in smoky, whispery ad-libs isn’t what makes this song important, though, it’s the subtle build-up of Gunna’s simple, direct but menacing flow that feels like he is directly talking to you and almost wagging his finger at you whilst doing so. It’s just Gunna appreciating and absorbing the peak of hedonism in a cohesive and monotone Auto-Tuned flow. Just like the years of the Trump administration and prior, it creates a routine and a pattern that despite how outrageous it may seem, gets you used to believing what is expressed and revealed, which is often completely petty and ridiculous nonsense, just like Gunna’s bars here. Then Young Thug comes in. The aura of mystery surrounding his reverb-drenched mumbling in the bridge intrigues you and pulls you in, taking you out of the Gunna-infused hypnosis and dragging you face-first into starstruck astonishment. The song finally releases in full-blown explosive trap-rap fashion with one simple meaningless phrase: “I took the Bentley coupe back then I hopped in a Cayenne”, followed by that energetic screeching ad-lib that book-ends nearly every bar here. Finally, there’s liberation. Sure, this is hyperbolic, and I’m not trying to make some insanely pro-Biden political statement here, but it feels significant to me that this is one of the biggest hits of one of the most historically essential years in recent history, even if it didn’t make much initial impact. Thugger switches from sing-songy melodies to repetitively imitating a machine-gun in a guttural yell, and it feels natural. It feels chaotic and that there is very little focus, but that’s because there is. He is completely ignorant of anything surrounding him and indulges in his own self-aggrandisement with rapid but smooth flows in his signature yelping delivery. The lyrics are frankly meaningless and irrelevant listing of luxury brands and cars, but that’s because Thugger couldn’t care less about the wider world or what surrounds him or even the impact he himself has on society or culture. It’s not like that means the song can only be appreciated in a vacuum because it creates that vacuum for itself, and by using that one manic Thugger verse – the best verse I heard in 2019 and one of the best verses to ever hit streaming services on pure energy and delivery alone – allows itself to release and indulge in the little things, the petty fantasies, those precious albeit unimportant elements of life that add up to form some kind of self-satisfaction and dare I say in 2020, happiness, and before you can even truly appreciate that...
Turn the whole top floor to a whorehouse / Hundred racks in ones, dude bought the flood out
...it’s taken away from you once again, and you have to scour your way through a fading trap beat without any of the additional touches that made it so great in Thugger’s verse, without the playful flutes, and most importantly, without the fun. You’re left there with what remains of Wheezy’s composition after it was ravaged by Thug and with only the same whispery, barely audible repetitions that started the song off, and you realise that whilst the release may feel great and liberating while it’s there, until you break the routine and bring about change, your happiness and your freedom is meaningless and any attempt to replicate that same feeling is futile. So to answer that question, the purpose of pop music is to reflect on how culture and society develops, evolves and adapts with what it’s faced with, but ultimately, to us as people and consumers, music serves as a fleeting moment of joy, self-expression and most importantly, a release of what has to be bottled up and silenced in the everyday routine of life, because of powers outside of our control. Farewell, 2020, and good fucking riddance.

All The Best Rap And Hip-Hop Playlists On Spotify To Listen To Right Now
Getty Image
Last Updated: January 28th
More than possibly any other genre, hip-hop lends itself to the playlist format so naturally, it’s almost like the two go hand-in-hand. The relationship is symbiotic.
With that in mind, these are just some of the best rap Spotify playlists right now, featuring not only the latest regional and digital hits before they enter rotation on pop radio, but also lessons in hip-hop history. The lists highlighted here represent the diversity of sounds, eras, and divergent sexuality of hip-hop’s most prominent acts, labels, and regions. Enjoy!
Related: The Best Remix Playlists On Spotify Right Now
Cali Fire by Spotify
This is an eclectic list, featuring artists from up and down the California coastline. Its 50 songs cover an expansive list of possibilities, from partying hard to kicking back, but the thing each has in common is they all sound best while indulging in the sunshine of this playlist’s namesake state. It’s a bit more Bay-heavy than some of the other, similar lists I’ve delved into, so your mileage may vary, depending on how you feel about G-Eazy and E-40. This is also a great list for getting into those artists and more from the northern corner of California, which is often overlooked by the outside world, allowing it to evolve into its own flourishing, carefree ecosystem of hyphy bops and underground jams.
Gold School by Spotify
Look, I’m not going to lie. It hurts a little to see songs from my high school years lumped in with songs from a decade before all under the banner of “Old School,” but at the same time, this is probably your best bet for a formative, classic hip-hop education. A great many of the tracks here represent not only the backbone of hip-hop but its arms, legs, and head too. The Tupac tracks spun the socially-conscious, narrative thread that Kendrick Lamar eventually wove into his sonic tapestry, while joints from foundational Southern legends like T.I., Juvenile, and 8Ball & MJG created the 808 and snare roll trend that still forms the sonic framework of trap music to this day. And nobody would be rapping half as well as they do now without tongue-twisting lyricists like Naughty By Nature‘s Treach, Method Man, Redman, and Busta Rhymes.
Ill Lyricist by Spotify
As hip-hop continues to incorporate more and more melody in its modern hits, it’s easy to forget that there’s still plenty of bars-over-everything, wordy rap circulating out in the world. Well, here’s your reminder. Those fans who prefer rhyme-a-minute, battle-ready rap can escape from the realm of syrupy crooners to rugged faw, punchlines-first hip-hop with this playlist thanks to the inclusion of older traditionalists Black Star, Nas, and Pusha T alongside slick spitters of the modern era like Chance The Rapper, Joey Badass, and Wale.
Jazz Rap by Spotify
[spofity=”spotify:user:spotify:playlist:37i9dQZF1DX8Kgdykz6OKj”width=”650″ height=”307″ /]
Let’s face it: Those “beats to study to” streams on Youtube are pretty cool, but they’re utterly hellacious on those cell phone batteries and data plans. Since they come with a video component, they can eat a lot of bandwidth while keeping your phone’s screen lit — in a bad way — along with the dubious legality of such streams likely keeping streaming income out of producers’ pockets. With Jazz Rap, those worries are mostly out the window, along with the added benefit of being able to see song titles and artists’ names, allowing you to pick out favorites like Loyle Carner and Rejjie Snow so you can really dig into their catalogs when you finish “studying.”
Most Necessary by Spotify
[spofity=”spotify:user:spotify:playlist:37i9dQZF1DX2RxBh64BHjQ”width=”650″ height=”307″ /]
Described by Spotify as “the official voice of generation next,” Most Necessary fully embraces the future of hip-hop, highlighting rising stars like Blueface, Comethazine, Roddy Ricch, and YNW Melly. Putting streaming stars at the top of the list gives listeners a chance to dip their toes into the pool of burgeoning talent bubbling just under the surface of rap’s biggest hits without having to go scuba diving for hours on Soundcloud. If you see a name on this list, you may want to get familiar with the artist because odds are they’ll be dominating the blog scene for the next year or so as they climb out of the underground and into the spotlight, helped along by those fans who are tapped into the next wave before it breaks — which now, thanks to this playlist, includes you.
New York Hip Hop by Adam Howell
While this list is scarily ’90s-centric, almost, but not quite confirming the stereotype about the hip-hop New York rap fans insistently pine for, it also contains nuggets from newer Gotham stalwarts like Smoke DZA, Bobby Shmurda, Joey Badass, and ASAP Mob. However, it still leans heavily into the boom-bap-and-hard-rhymes, hoodie-and-Timbs lyricism of the middle of that decade — not that that’s a bad thing, by any means. The Beatnuts, The Lox, M.O.P., Wu-Tang Clan, and the classic Rawkus Records roster figure heavily into this list alongside The Diplomats and Fat Joe, running the gamut from park jams to basement parties, all with a menacing stare and a razor blade under a skullcap. This was the music that made hip-hop dangerous but also took the grimy bluster of post-crack New York to the penthouses of power and influence.
Rap Caviar by Spotify
You’ve probably seen this list. Depending on how you feel about face tattoos and purple dreads, you either love it or hate it. If you fall in the latter camp, I’ll advise you listen with fresh ears and an open mind. Just because the kids that mostly populate this playlist of pop jams looks wildly different from the decidedly more muted and menacing MCs we came up with, doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to love. This one also embraces straight spitters like Belly and Nicki Minaj alongside its colorful array of younger cloud rap all-stars like Smokepurpp, YBN Nahmir, and Blocboy JB. It’s a prime example of the diversity and depth of modern hip-hop, fitting it all together in a patchwork, quilt-like configuration that paints the biggest picture of just what rap means in 2018.
The Realest Down South by Spotify
While Rap Caviar runs heavy on trap music, it also features some more traditionalist departures from the Southern formula. This list is for those fans who drink their lemonade out of mason jars and drive two miles an hour so everybody sees you. There’s none of that finicky New York elitism here, just straight up Southern bangers. However, like the preceding list, this one contains a surprising breadth of styles and sounds, if you’re willing to listen past the heavy accents and diamond grills, there’s a lot of pathos amidst the stunting from Gunna, Lil Baby, Marlo, Migos, and Rich Homie Quan.
Signed XOXO by Spotify
With a tagline of “Crossing over like Allen I,” this list contains mostly newer, bubbling hits. Not only can you stay current with the newest songs that are currently taking over the minds of the youth of America, but you can get a sense of just how broad hip-hop has become in recent years. It seems there’s as much room for Buddy’s “Trouble On Central” as there is for Post Malone’s “Better Now” and J. Cole’s “Kevin’s Hart.”
Who We Be by Spotify
Hip-hop continues its experimental crossovers with UK Grime and this mix is a prime representation of the best of that blend. Featuring American rap stars like ASAP Rocky rocking alongside British flame spitters like Skepta, this mix is the ultimate bridge over the big pond.
Women Of Hip-Hop by Spotify
While this list is far from a perfect cross section of female representation in hip-hop, it covers the bases pretty well. There are your ’90s classics: Eve, and of course, Fox, Kim, Missy. There are plenty of newer rappers aside from just Nicki and Cardi as well. Kash Doll, Kodie Shane, Young M.A., Kamaiyah, and Dej Loaf all make appearances; it’s nice to see them acknowledged rather than overlooked as they so usually are. Although I would have liked to see a few more names from the 2000s, like Rah Digga or Shawnna, or some from the ’80s aside from the obvious Salt-N-Pepa and JJ Fad placements, it’s a start, and really, the journey of 1,000 miles begins with one step. If this is the first one on the path toward discovering the wealth of female rappers who’ve always bubbled just under the radar of hip-hop, it’s one I’ll willingly take.

13 Coachella Acts You Should See Other Than Beyoncé, The Weeknd and Eminem
Coachella 2018 is finally here!
Music lovers will be swarming to Indio, California, over the next two weekends to catch Beyoncé, The Weeknd and Eminem's highly anticipated headlining sets. And while their shows will surely be amazing, there's plenty of other bands and artists on the list that are also worth checking out.
So, whether you're heading to the desert to watch the star-studded lineup in person, or plan to live-stream the music festival at home, ET's got you covered. Here are 13 acts (aside from the biggest names) that we think you should rock out to and why!
CARDI B / MIGOS
youtube
Who they are: Though these two acts are performing separately, we have a good feeling we'll get a Coachella crossover! Cardi B (real name: Belcalis Almanzar) is a rapper from the Bronx borough of New York City, who first gained attention on Instagram and Vine for her "no filter" videos, later appearing on Love & Hip Hop: New York before her rap career took off in 2017. Migos is a hip-hop trio from Lawrenceville, Georgia, who formed together in 2009. The group is made up of rappers Quavo, Takeoff and Offset, who is engaged to Cardi B.
Why you should see their sets: For months, fans have been speculating that Cardi B was pregnant with her and Offset's first child, and she finally confirmed it last weekend by debuting her baby bump on Saturday Night Live. Aside from getting a peek at her burgeoning belly, expect a fire show from the 25-year-old singer, as she just dropped her no-holds-barred debut album, Invasion of Privacy, earlier this month. We're expecting Migos' set to be equally lit, with fans dancing along to their most popular tracks, like "Versace," "Stir Fry" and "Bad and Boujee."
Songs to listen to: If you're just getting introduced to Cardi B, check out "Bodak Yellow" and "Bartier Cardi," two of the first tracks that made her a household name. Also be sure to listen to "Thru Your Phone" and "I Do" off her new album, as well as "MotorSport" and Drip," which she and Migos collaborated on and will most likely perform together during Coachella.
Potential surprise guests: While there's no guarantee who will show up during Cardi B and Migos' Sunday sets, we'd personally love to see Nicki Minaj, Bruno Mars, G-Eazy, Lil Uzi Vert, Chance the Rapper, DJ Khaled or Justin Bieber, who have all recorded tracks with the rappers over the past few years.
SZA
youtube
Who she is: One of the hottest names in R&B and hip-hop at the moment, SZA, aka Solána Imani Rowe, has been making music since 2012, but came on the scene in a major way last year, with her breakthrough album, Ctrl. She's since been unstoppable, with appearances on the Black Panther soundtrack and Cardi B's debut album.
Why you should check out her set: Apart from the singalong hits, SZA's unique, soulful voice and minimalist, chillwave-inspired beats is the perfect way to round out your Friday night in the desert.
Songs to listen to: "Love Galore," "Drew Barrymore" and "All the Stars" will make you instantly fall in love with the 27-year-old singer.
Potential special guests: SZA has collaborated with everyone from Calvin Harris to Travis Scott to Maroon 5, but two of the biggest names that could turn up on her Coachella stage are Kendrick Lamar, to perform their Black Panther single, "All the Stars," and Cardi B, for their newly released Invasion of Privacy duet, "I Do."
 BLEACHERS
youtube
Who they are: After successful runs in Steel Train and Fun., in-demand pop producer Jack Antonoff launched his new solo venture, Bleachers, in 2014. If a John Hughes movie were an album, it would sound like Bleachers’ debut, Strange Desire, and it only got better from there.
Why you should check out their set: With the Coachella lineup leaning heavy on hip-hop this year, the Bleachers' set should be a perfect opportunity for a fun, poppy dance break.
Songs to listen to: If you're checking out Bleachers for the first time, definitely take a listen to "Don't Take the Money," "I Wanna Get Better" and "I Miss Those Days" before their performance kicks off.
Potential special guests: It's always a safe bet to guess Lorde might turn up at a Bleachers show (or vice versa -- the two are close friends!), but if we're going for a long shot, maybe Taylor Swift could show up to perform one of her Antonoff-produced hits? Hey, a festivalgoer can dream!
ST. VINCENT
youtube
Who she is: One of the most exciting acts in indie rock, who has been putting in work for over a decade, St. Vincent (real name: Annie Clark) spent her formative years as an artist in Sufjan Stevens' touring band, breaking out on her own in 2006. All of her five solo albums have been critically acclaimed, including her most recent, 2017’s Masseduction.
Why you should see her set: Expect an exciting set from the multi-instrumentalist, who, for fans of impressive guitar work, has also been known to shred. Her sets, not unlike her songs, tend to build in energy, from a simple beat to a full-on sonic explosion, meaning this one will likely reward those who commit for the whole concert.
Songs to listen to: "Cruel," off of 2011's Strange Mercy is a classic, but also check out her Masseduction singles, like "Los Ageless" and "New York," to get familiar with her newer work.
Potential surprise guests: Sufjan is an obvious possibility, as well as David Byrne. Not only is he on the lineup himself, but he released a collaborative album with St. Vincent back in 2012.
 ALISON WONDERLAND
youtube
Who she is: Alexandra Sholler, best known by her punny stage name of Alison Wonderland, is an Australian EDM DJ, producer and singer. Before hitting the scene with her debut album, Run, in 2015, Alison played bass guitar in a few local indie rock bands, and was a classically trained cellist who performed with the Sydney Youth Opera (you can hear her cello skills on songs like "Good Enough" and "Space.")
Why you should see her set: Between her edgy style, raw vocals, insanely catchy remixes, quirky dancing and the fact that she's the highest-billed female DJ in the history of Coachella, this set is going to be rad! Plus, the 31-year-old just released her sophomore album, Awake, over the weekend, and in less than two days, it already garnered two million streams on Spotify.
Songs to listen to: If her remix of Dua Lipa's "New Rules" doesn't sell you, "Happy Place" and "Easy" will definitely send you down a magical Alison Wonderland rabbit hole.
Potential surprise guests: While she is truly entertaining enough on her own, we wouldn't be surprised if she invited one of her Awake collaborators, like BLESSUS, Trippie Redd or Buddy, to the stage.
MIGUEL
youtube
Who he is: Born Miguel Jontel Pimentel, the soulful singer and songwriter first cast his spell on the music scene with his R&B love song, "Adorn," for which he won his first GRAMMY in 2013. He most recently released his third full-length album, War & Leisure, and his vocals were featured on Disney's Coco soundtrack. He performed the film's Oscar-winning song, "Remember Me (Dúo)," at this year's Academy Awards.
Why you should see his set: Fresh off his sexy War & Leisure tour, Coachella is the perfect setting for this Los Angeles native's sultry voice and effortless cool vibes. But don't let his falsetto, hip-thrusting, baby-making music fool you -- Miguel knows how to throw a party onstage!
Songs to listen to: "Sky Walker," "Pineapple Skies" and "I Told You So" are just a few jams that will get you jiving with the 32-year-old singer.
Potential special guests: Miguel's solo records speak for themselves, but it's his features and collaborations that showcase just how versatile his voice is. He's appeared on Janelle Monae's "Primetime," Dua Lipa's "Lost in Your Light," and most recently, Kygo's "Remind Me to Forget." And with the latter also on the Coachella lineup this year, expect the two to share the stage at some point this weekend.
 FIRST AID KIT
youtube
Who they are: A Swedish folk duo consisting of sisters Klara and Johanna Söderberg, who, like many modern-day breakouts, gained notoriety with a viral YouTube cover of Fleet Foxes' "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song." In the near decade since that video was released, First Aid Kid has boasted an international following and put out three studio albums, including their latest, Ruins, earlier this year.
Why you should see their set: In some ways, the Söderberg sisters evoke Simon & Garfunkel with their transfixing harmonies, lending itself to singing along, swaying about in the crowd or even hanging back and taking in the melodies while lying in the grass. First Aid Kit is a must-see for any listeners who really go for harmonization, as well as rich, layered folk instrumentation.
Songs to listen to: "My Silver Lining" is their most popular song, and also a great representation of what they do as a duo. Also consider "It’s a Shame" and "Fireworks," both off their newest album, to determine if this act is one to add to your Coachella schedule.
Potential surprise guests: This is a tough one, because the draw of Klara and Johanna is, well, Klara and Johanna! That said, Fleet Foxes will also be at the festival, the band First Aid Kit paid tribute to in the aforementioned viral cover. If they welcome them onstage, or vice versa, it would definitely be an appearance we’d be lucky to see.
 MØ
youtube
Who she is: MØ is a Danish singer, songwriter and electropop producer. In 2015, she co-wrote Major Lazer and DJ Snake's massive hit, "Lean On," which, at the time, exploded to be Spotify’s most-streamed song ever (it has since been overtaken by Drake's "One Dance").
Why you should see her set: She's been compared to other electropop powerhouses, like Grimes and Twin Shadow, and has amassed a huge following, thanks in part to some amazing features and collaborations. MØ, surprised the crowd at last year's Coachella during Major Lazer's set, but this year, the 29-year-old is ready to take center stage all on her own. Plus, she has some sweet dance moves.
Songs to listen to: "When I Was Young," "Don't Leave" and "Final Song" are solid tracks that will turn you into a MØ fan in no time.
Potential special guests: Over the last three years, MØ has been the go-to pop singer for hits like "Don’t Leave" with Snakehips and "Porsche" with Charli XCX, so either artist could easily join her onstage, especially since the former is also on the Coachella bill. We also wouldn't be surprised if her frequent collaborator, Diplo, made a special appearance during her set.
GRETA VAN FLEET
youtube
Who they are: Made up of brothers Josh, Jake and Sam Kiszka, with their friend, Danny Wagner, Greta Van Fleet is an American rock band that hails from Frankenmuth, Michigan. They formed the group in 2012, but they easily could have fit in with the classic rock bands of the '70s.
Why you should see them: If you need a break from all the hip-hop, R&B and electronic dance music, do yourself a favor and get familiar with these rising rock stars, whose sound is heavily influenced by the work of Led Zeppelin. (Seriously, if you close your eyes while listening to their music for the first time, you would think it was Robert Plant on vocals -- that would be Josh). Their throwback, blues-rock vibe is a refreshing set for Coachella attendees looking to just chill out for a bit on Friday, while discovering an awesome band that's inventing old-school rock.
Songs to listen to: "Highway Tune" was the quartet's debut single, and the first one they ever wrote and recorded together. It hit No. 1 on mainstream rock radio, and was even featured on the Showtime show Shameless. If you're digging that track, definitely also check out "Safari Song" and "Flower Power" from their eight-song EP, From the Fires.
Potential surprise guests: In an interview with Billboard last August, Josh said that while they still "prefer all of the old stuff," there are a few bands and artists from this era that they dig -- Fleet Foxes and Vance Joy, who are both on this year's lineup. Although Greta Van Fleet hasn't officially collaborated on any tracks with either of these acts, we'd love to see them rock out together at the festival.
KALI UCHIS
youtube
Who she is: Kali Uchis is a neo-soul, R&B singer who hails from Pereira, Colombia, and just released a severely dope debut album, Isolation.
Why you should see her set: What the 24-year-old singer brings as an artist is an ability to be simultaneously free-associative in her singing and unbelievably catchy. Plus, her songs are set to up-tempo beats that evoke a mix of a little hip-hop and indie pop. So, whether you're ready to low-key jam out or just need to chill out for a bit, she's a great artist to watch. Coachella hasn’t dropped the full set times just yet, but she seems like a perfect fit for sunset at the Outdoor Stage or a dreamy set in one of the tents.
Songs to listen to: Familiarize yourself with Kali Uchis by listening to "Tyrant," "After the Storm" and "In My Dreams" off her new album, and "Loner" for a good throwback track.
Potential surprise guests: Tyler, the Creator is all but guaranteed, as he has produced for Uchis frequently, and is featured on "After the Storm." Other likely acts include Jorja Smith, Daniel Caesar and Vince Staples. Additionally, it would be a long shot, but she did collaborate with Snoop Dogg early in her career. He’s all booked up during weekend two of the festival, but the iconic rapper would certainly be a treat for weekend one attendees.
 DANIEL CAESAR
youtube
Who he is: Canadian singer-songwriter Ashton Simmonds, better known as Daniel Caesar, is one of the fresh names to know in the world of R&B. His debut EP, Praise Break, was critically acclaimed, but it was his breakthrough 2016 single, "Get You," and follow-up album, Freudian, that catapulted him onto the big stage.
Why you should check out his set: A nice, low-key lull in the hectic first day of the festival, Caesar’s swooning guitar and bluesy vocals will be perfect for a sunset set in the desert.
Songs to listen to: Do yourself a favor and press play on "Get You," "We Find Love" and "Best Part." You're welcome.
Potential special guests: It wouldn't be a surprise to see fellow Coachella performer Kali Uchis show up on Caesar's stage, thanks to their "Get You" collab. If we're taking a shot in the dark, though, maybe Chance the Rapper shows up to perform "First World Problems," the track the pair debuted on The Late Show last fall. It's Coachella, after all. Anything can happen!
TANK AND THE BANGAS
youtube
Who they are: Tank and the Bangas are a funk/soul outfit from New Orleans, founded and fronted by slam poet Tarriona "Tank" Ball, who surrounded herself with talented musicians in order to craft a sound unlike any other. The group formed in 2011, and gained widespread recognition last year after winning NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest.
Why you should check out their set: If the music doesn't get you, Ball's powerful words will. Watching the group's Tiny Desk performance will have any viewer eager to see them on a much larger stage, and their Friday set should be the perfect opportunity to get you into the Coachella groove.
Songs you need to check out: While we love them all, "Quick," "Rollercoasters" and "Oh Heart" are a few of our favorites.
Potential special guests: None. Tank and her crew will be more than enough entertainment!
