Omnitrix Scanning: What CAN/CAN'T Ben turn into?

The Omnitrix is well-known at this point for having incredibly vague rules about what does and doesn't constitute as an eligible species for scanning, with them almost never being directly mentioned, short of the constantly reinforced rule of sapience being a requirement.

The rulings below are the ones I personally adhere to based on their consistency, and adherence to the intended themes in Ben 10.

What the Omnitrix CAN'T scan:

Species that are non-sapient. There's a certain threshold of awareness & intelligence that must be crossed for a species to be eligible for the Omnitrix, for Ben's sapient mind to be compatible within it. Azmuth has noted that this isn't "as high a bar as people think it is", with the writers confirming (albeit jokingly) that Earth animals such as dolphins and chimpanzees would be eligible, though they likely wouldn't be able to communicate like Wildmutt.

Unique robotic or otherwise technological creations, no matter how individually advanced or intelligent. The qualifications for robotic 'species' being considered for the Omnitrix are vague, but if a robot is a unique creation that cannot function as a species or culture, the Omnitrix almost certainly won't scan it.

Unnatural mutations of species that would otherwise be eligible, while they theoretically wouldn't be impossible to be scanned, but mutated DNA are by default withheld from being implemented into the Omnitrix to protect from their genetic instability. However, if the base species is yet to be unlocked, the Omnitrix IS able to extract an unmutated DNA sample from a mutated host.

What the Omnitrix CAN scan:

Robotic species that DO function as such, with self-sufficiency and culture and other necessities, are eligible for the Omnitrix. The most clear line for this is established by the Galvanic Mechamorphs (Or, as Ben calls his, Upgrade), whom were originally an accidental creation of the Galvan. While when they originally gained sapience, they might not have been eligible, the Galvan took the effort of upgrading to the point that they could function as a species & culture all their own afterwards.

Hive-Mind species, such as the Microchips, can be scanned by the Omnitrix, but in that specific instance it required the Omnitrix to create a more thorough hybrid of Microchip and Human DNA to ensure that Ben stayed in-control throughout the process, while still being able to communicate with the Microchip Queen.

Cybernetically-enhanced species, whose cybernetic enhancements are span the entire people due to either medical, environmental, or even religious or cultural reasons are eligible.

Species that stemmed as mutations from another species, whether or not those original mutations were natural or unnatural, can become eligible & unique from the base species if their DNA has stabilized and become more consistent across the species. This can be seen in the Prypiatosian-A (like NRG), whose species was mutated by their planet being devastated by nuclear war, and adapted into it's current form over several generations.

On a similar note, sub-species with even only small differences can be considered unique samples to scan by the Omnitrix, as shown by the Perk & Murk Gourmand whose differences are mostly just visual in nature. If there's defining genetic differences, it'll scan.

Species whose every fragment of DNA is a sapient part of them that are always in their control, like Ectonurites, CAN be sampled by the Omnitrix, but it usually requires consent of the sampled party, if not it'll have consequences (as it did with Ghostfreak).

Beings that "don't have DNA" as it is usually defined are entirely viable samples for the Omnitrix to scan, if they fulfill the other qualifications of sapience, self-sufficiency, and culture. It doesn't matter of they're Silicon-based like Petropians, energy-based like Nosedeenians, sound-based like Sonorosians, or whatever Celestialsapiens are made of.

So with this said, how about some (a lot of) examples of both?

Dragon Ball Species:

Saiyans: Yes!

Namekians: Warrior and Dragon Clan Namekians, yes, but not Demon Clan Namekians like Piccolo as they were "mutated by evil".

Frieza's Race: Yes and no. All of Frieza's own familial clan are stated to be mutants themselves, these mutations being the source of their ability to just create transformations at will, but the Omnitrix WOULD be able to extract an unmutated sample of whatever his species looks like without mutations.

Kais/Core People: Absolutely.

Gods of Destruction: As shown by the series, GoDs aren't a species, and their power just comes from training. So, while Ben could become any of their base species', he wouldn't gain the power of a God of Destruction through doing so. So, no!

Angels: Possible, but not advisable with the rules put on them.

Majins: With consent, perfectly possible. Scanning a hostile Majin would likely end up creating a Ghostfreak situation, though.

Androids: Nope.

Bio Androids (ex. Cell): With the Omnitrix's anti-mutated DNA safeguards, the Omnitrix would extract all the eligible individual samples that were used to create the Bio Android.

Machine Mutants (ex. Baby): As said, they're heavily mutated Tuffles, so they themselves wouldn't be scanned, but a base sample of Tuffle DNA would be extracted instead.

Marvel:

Spider-People, Mutants, and Hulks: Nope!

Inhumans: Probable! Though, the form may require exposure to the Terrigen Mist to gain powers of it's own.

Asgardians, Olympians, and other gods: Yep!

Skrulls: Yes, but only the base species. Super Skrulls are genetic experiments created in a lab, and therefore mutated.

Symbiotes: Perfectly eligible, though like Ectonurites, a consensual scan would be the most ideal to avoid a Ghostfreak situation. Also, as their species prefer having compatible hosts, the Omnitrix would probably allow Ben to attach the form to his other alien forms rather than making him use it on it's own.

Brood: Possible, but the Omnitrix might modify the DNA with Ben's human DNA to counteract the dangers of being a part of a hive-mind. Still, entirely workable.

Watchers: Yes, but not advisable.

Ego the Living Planet: Comic version, very unclear.

Celestials: Insane, but yes.

Galactus: Nope, individual being.

DC:

Kryptonians, Amazons, Atlanteans, Tamaraneans: Absolutely!

Martians: Yes, but it'd require consent. DC Martians have full control over their DNA, and could retract a scan's sample at will.

Czarnians: Yes, but it wouldn't have all the traits Lobo has.

New Gods: In general, yes, but the exact abilities would be unclear.

Miscellaneous:

Yautja/Predators (Dark Horse): Yes.

Xenomorphs/Aliens (Dark Horse): Nope, not sapient.

Cybertronians (IDW): Absolutely.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (IDW): Nah.

Monsters (Undertale): Yes, but each different type of monster would likely be considered individual subspecies.

Gems (Steven Universe): Yes, but each individual gem type would be considered it's own species, allowing each to be scanned individually and be their own transformations.

Irken (Invader Zim): Yes, and as the "pinnacle" of their species have extensive cybernetic enhancement, the Omnitrix's Irken transformation would have them as well.

Halfas (Danny Phantom): Nope, mutated hybrid DNA.

Ghosts (Danny Phantom): VERY dependent, as ghosts in Danny Phantom come with a great deal of variance, but there would at least be a few eligible "species" from the ghosts that are native to the Ghost Zone rather than the human spirits that went there.

Quirk-Enhanced Humans (MHA): While one might assume they would be the same as Mutants from Marvel, I disagree. Quirk-Enhanced Humans have very strong, consistent DNA that sustains itself over successive generations, and while it may have started as a mutation, has clearly become the next step in evolution.

Timelords/Gallifreyans (Doctor Who): Terrifying, but yes.

Befriending a Sonorosian HCs

-It's kinda like having a younger sibling.

-They imitate you. Doesn't do it consciously, it's just how Sonorsians are (personal HC). They imitate those that they like and look up, emulating your body language, the way you speak, your likes and dislikes.

-Really, really looks up to you. They just think you're absolutely amazing. Usually, a Sonorosian will imitate and adapt the behavior of a bunch of different people but because they are so attached to you they only really imitate you.

-"Wow, I didn't know you also liked this band! How long have you been a fan?" "Since last week. I saw you had their album and decided to start listening to them too." "Oh... Well, what do you think?" "They're great!" "I know, right?"

-Surprisingly quiet and shy. Mostly used to the company of their clones which really doesn't count as company so they find being around lots of people to be overwhelming. They'd much rather it'd be just you and them.

-Loves movie night and game night. The best at rhythm games and karaoke. Surprisingly likes horror movies? At least the old ones, the newer ones looks too real.

-A jealous friend? If they see you talking to someone they don't know then they will scoot over until they stand between you two, arms wide as if to protect you. They just don't have a lot of self confidence so they are always worried that you will grow bored of them.

-Really likes physical affection. Loves getting hugged and being patted on the head. Has a bit of a hard time initiating physical contact but if they feel insecure or jealous then they might just hug you to show everyone that you are their friend.

-Prefers to listen instead of talking. You can talk for hours and you will have their rapt attention the whole time.

-Somehow always knows what you need before you do? You turn around to grab something and they are standing behind you, holding it up to you.

Since sonorosians are supposed to be living sound in a containment suit over time the sound in their bodies expand to such degrees that develop means to expell it from other parts of their bodies.

Ben's enhanced Echo Echo can not only expell sound from his mouth but through the numerous speaker like holes that surround his body.

Making for an almost 360 range of sound attacks.

Hey. I've seen some of your Ben 10 Rebooted AU stuff and I think you've got some neat ideas there (ex. Glitch being utilized more, Ben & Gwen being half-Anodites in a way that isn't a retcon (especially to Gwen's magic abilities), Lord Decibel being part Sonorosian & a failed Rooters experiment, Ben & Kevin being in a relationship, Ben & friends going on Scooby-Doo-like adventures, etc).

Thought of this for awhile, but I do have a question to ask you regarding the Rebooted AU:

What inspired you to create the Rebooted AU in the first place, as well as the tiny rewrites of the 2016 reboot series?

As for the inspiration, I just thought the reboot had a lot of potential, and I wanted to explore that. I still do, and I think not making a follow-up series to the reboot would be a mistake. I really got attached to the world of the reboot, and think it needs more love.

No where. Its an headcanon thanks to bad forces out there who would love to have cheap unlimited labor in the galaxy. Like say vilgax or the incurseans.

While many have thought of using Splixsons for such purposes, this hardly would work in practice. Splixsons are limitlessly annoying when they try. Sonorosians are much better workers, and are much more accustomed and welcoming to the lifestyle.

Can shout energy beams from his mouth.

From his gauntlets can shows energy whips and stars.

Can survive in the vacuum of space.

 Weaknesses:

There is a limit to the number of duplicates than can make.

Has to be one again, otherwise, when some clone becomes returned to Ben or some other alien, each clone will develop different personalities.

If a clone is hurt, it does not recover again due to some transformations later.

Because the clones are made of silicone, they can easily be destroyed by a powerful beam.

If have a cold or sick, he and each clone have uncontrollable sonic sneezes.

If his backpack is damaged, it will be impossible fly.

Is vulnerable to electricity.

You know, the Ultimate Aliens in Ben 10 really are hit-or-miss, looking back. The base concept of them is supposed to be taking an alien species and running them through a simulation of like, 1000+ years of combat to see how a species could adapt for optimized efficiency in battle. It's not JUST predicting a species' evolution, but specifically how they could be best utilized for war. It shows the difference in mentality between Albedo and Azmuth; the latter made the Omnitrix as a tool to bring different races together, while the former only sees the potential for a weapon.

Some of the Ultimates are really cool. You've got Ultimate Humungosaur with his thicker armor and rocket launcher hands, or Ultimate Echo Echo with the sound discs that are more maneuverable than the base form's clones. On the flip side, you have Ultimate Cannonbolt that really doesn't do anything new or interesting beyond adding some spikes, or Ultimate Big Chill who shoots "fire so cold it burns," whatever the hell that's even supposed to mean.

I know that there's a sort of mentality popularized by O.R.Ash that Ultimates are supposed to get some kind of trade-off, as in losing a base form ability for the new powers, but I don't necessarily think that's true (and no disrespect to O.R.Ash, I legit like his redesigns.) Like I said: I think, first and foremost, the Ultimates should be optimized for combat, which could lean more into the dubious nature of the power and the mentality of treating these alien forms as nothing more than tool for battle.

Honestly, I kind of wish that more Ultimates leaned into that by incorporating mechanical aspects into the design, like Humungosaur and Echo Echo did. Rather than simply evolving the aliens, I think artificially augmenting them would fit more with the overall idea of what the writers were trying to go for. So, with that in mind...

The Ultimatrix has long been a fascination of mine. The Omintrix was designed to bring unity across the cosmos by letting one organism experience life through the eyes of another (sometimes metaphorically.) However, many saw the potential of the Omnitrix as a weapon, particularly Azmuth's former assistant: Albedo.

He created an evolutionary function that was, in theory, meant to simulate the result of a species undergoing centuries of battle to the point of almost going extinct. How might the beings of the universe adapt to an age of near-constant warfare? An intriguing premise, to be sure. Certainly, some of the results were quite impressive; the sonorosian, vaxasaurian and methanosian DNA turned out particularly well.

However, the Ultimatrix is still, at the end of the day, merely a machine. A machine lacks imagination, and some of the 'evolutions' turned out to be little more than mildly above-average specimens of the species as they presently exist now. If the aim was to envision beings optimized for a lifetime of conflict, then some of the results seem laughably incomplete. This log will be exploring some of the more... Disappointing 'Ultimates,' as they are called, and potential enhancements that could be made to hone their natural abilities to suit their purpose.

Ultimate Big Chill

Necrofriggians are perhaps most well-known for their ability to produce frigid mist from their mouths, which can rapidly cool anything it comes into contact with to below-freezing temperatures. Their secondary ability, which allows them to turn intangible, is quite useful for stealth. In a way, Necrofiggians can be considered naturally-born assassins, and this power can be further amplified for that role. I envision 'Ultimate Big Chill' to expel freezing mist not just from the mouth, but the hands as well, forming small constructs of ice; primarily, this is used to create frigid throwing daggers or blades for close-range combat, should the need arise. Additionally, this form can now turn its body entirely invisible as well as intangible, allowing for greater stealth capabilities. The Necrofriggian adapts to end combat before it even begins, teaching opponents the true meaning of 'cold as the gave.'

Ultimate Cannonbolt

The Arburian Pelarota is already quite naturally suited to combat scenarios. The species' thick shells can endure various forms of acid and even orbital entry. It's little wonder why Albedo's Ultimatrix saw little reason to augment the species further... But I believe one can always push the boundaries with a little imagination. As the Pelarota's greatest strength has always been a strong balance of offense and defense, why not take this even further? 'Ultimate Cannonbolt' is equipped with energy generators on the plates, which can be used to form protective barriers that protect the user even while in a bipedal state. These generators can also assist in rolling attacks, giving an additional 'oomph' by letting the user instantly rocket forward at extreme speeds. This Ultimate aims to be both an unstoppable force AND an immovable object all at once.

Ultimate Wild Mutt

Vulpimancers are naturally-skilled hunters, but the purpose of an Ultimate is to become a warrior. The original Ultimatrix might have been onto something with 'Ultimate Wild Mutt,' but again, not enough was added to make a beast truly suited to the battlefield. For starters, elongating the tail and enlarging the the spike would give this transformation a deadlier edge. Perhaps we could even replace the spike with some manner of drill attachment? The real enhancement, though, comes from the ability to deploy a pair of mini-turrets from the flanks. With the Vulpimancer's naturally-keen sense of smell, such an addition would make it a menace to enemies both up-close and at a distance. A true hound of war, this one...

For now, this is where I will conclude such thoughts. Ideally, we will never see a future where such evolutions come to pass... But should the day ever arise when the power of the Ultimatrix may again be needed, this will serve as a fine starting point. After-all, power is neither good nor evil. Like the Omnitrix itself, it may be used to destroy or protect...

1. Vulpimancer

Prime Ben: Wildmutt (I love it)

Looks same as canon. Better sense of smell than the rest.

Ben 23: DogNabbit (Something is wrong with him)

Bluish white. Smaller yet faster than the rest.

Mad Ben: WildDingo (Self explanatory)

Dark orange with dark browns on it's fur (like a dingo). As well as a trail of longer fur on the back of it's neck and along it's back. His form is also slightly bigger with stronger skin.

Bad Ben: FurAndJaws (he would)

All black with longer claws and bigger teeth than the rest. Most vicious and aggressive in this form.

Nega Ben: K9 (He seems to be level headed)

Grey with black spottings on it's body.

Nega form: Grows bigger and has a tail to give it better mobility+direction change. Bigger bottom canines. Stronger skin. Longer fur. And has the agility to roar louder, scaring it's enemies.

2. Kineceleran

Prime Ben: Xlr8 (the best one let's face it)

Canon form.

Ben 23: SpeedyQuick (literally wtf)

Canon form.

Mad Ben: RooLegs (He was a kid spare him)

Orange and black with spikes along it's body+armoured on certain spots.

Bad Ben: LizardFace (He thinks he's funny)

Black and dark green.

Nega Ben: Velocity (Simple and effective is his thing I feel)

Black and greyish purple.

Nega form: Longer tail. The head crest breaks into two, resembling horns. And gains the ability to spit a soft venom into the enemies eyes to blind them.

3. Sonorosian
