oh my G O D their whole dynamic is even tastier than i realized!!!!!!!!! im obsessed with siblings who're just a liiiiitle too obsessed with each other, and hazel and daniel fit that to a t!!! also, i didn't realize everything ive seen about hazel was all headcanons either ahaha, you did such a good job of fleshing her out. i definitely love her so so much more now that i know that the love that was put into giving her more character, though <3

okay i know nothing about amnesia or hazel or daniel but 👀 as a shipcest fan i gotta learn what their deal is. your posts and art about them have me intrigued. so could you give me a rundown (as short or as long as you'd like) about danzel, where it came from, what they're like in canon, etc? i know i could just read their wikis, but i like to hear about stuff like this directly from the shippers themselves haha 💕

SO, before I really get into it I should say that if you want to play the best horror game ever then definitely give Amnesia a go!!

Ok, Daniel is the protagonist of The Dark Descent, it’s set in 1839 and he’s an Archeologist who works for the British Museum. He grew up in Canterbury with his little sister, Hazel, who has always been very ill and wasn’t even expected to live past 12, but she’s still alive at 15! Unfortunately Hazel only exists as text in these loading screens that give further context to Daniel’s life, so like 90% of what you see about her from me is headcanon.

^ this refers to the last time he visited her at the hospice before going off on the expedition that would ruin his life.

Daniel moved away from Canterbury to go to university in London, which I think is part of the reason their parents (probably mostly their father) sent her to hospice, Daniel was the one that cared for her the most.

Even from childhood Daniel had been interested in history and mythology and legends, and in my mind he also taught Hazel how to read and write, since in a later game (Rebirth) you get to find a scrapped letter that Daniel was writing to Hazel, and I doubt their parents would’ve found the time or effort to teach her literacy.

Here he is telling her about how the expedition is going, but after mentioning their father he seemingly gets frustrated and scraps it.

Their father was extremely abusive, mostly to Daniel but it is implied that Hazel would also experience it too, I headcanon that she got mostly verbal and emotional abuse.

Trauma bond, yay!!

SO, they have a very close relationship despite the distance, Hazel is basically the only person he truly loves and she just adores him back. Now onto the shippy stuff.

This is mostly headcanon, I can only do so much with three loading screens and a secret note, so her design along with the bulk of her personality is my headcanon. Since canonically Hazel is in hospice and Daniel lives in another city, all of my Danzel stuff exists in a sort of AU I guess, where Hazel has gotten well enough to leave hospice and obviously chooses to live with him instead of going back home to their father. It can be pre-game or post-game, but that heavily influences how they function, since post-game Daniel is a LOT more unstable, dealing with the continued guilt of what he’d done in Brennenburg Castle. (The baron, Alexander, invited Daniel to his castle in Prussia with the promise of saving his life from the cosmic horror hunting him down after he finds an artefact in that Algerian tomb.) not being able to tell Hazel the full truth of the aftermath of that expedition in Algeria.

Pre-game Daniel is also riddled with guilt, but it’s mostly to do with the fact he’s extremely attracted to his little sis and desperately doesn’t want to act on it and ruin their relationship forever. Hazel, despite loving to read and learn, is still very sheltered and naïve and isn’t really aware that siblings should not be this close, she knows that incest is taboo to some extent, but isn’t very interested in dialling back her affection for Daniel, much to his detriment. It becomes a test of endurance for him, and Hazel enjoys flustering him and seeing how far she can push him until he finally disregards those silly morals and does what they’ve both wanted for so long.

Daniel is quite concerned about being a good person, he’s scared of becoming his father, he’s constantly justifying his actions and he shifts the blame whenever possible, but he can’t possibly blame his sweet Hazel for his own disgusting desires, even if she’s enabling them, she doesn’t know any better! She’s perfect in his eyes, and so fragile, she can never know about the rituals, the torture, the murders he committed in the name of his own redemption. Secrets! Tension!! Sleeping in the same bed after nightmares! Laudanum abuse!! They’ve got everything, baby!!!

What I think: Thrawn alliances is a comedy but it's also a tragedy because thrawn KNOWS its anakin, he can see it in every move vader makes, and everyone around him pretends anakin died, including anakin, and he doesn't know why. He doesn't know the full story of anakins fall, but a long time ago he met a jedi who was probably the first jedi who wasn't trying to kill him, and did a whole lot of other batshit things instead. But even though anakin was impulsive and vengeful and singlehandedly destroyed a planets environment, he was a good man and an honorable warrior and that's all that mattered to thrawn, and obviously thrawn admired anakin enough that he thought the mention of anakins name could get him clemency from the Empire. Instead anakins walking around in an oubliette and he's seven inches taller and hates thrawns guts but obviously he's STILL anakin skywalker and it's obvious, why does no one else see it? So he continues to bring up anakins name so that vader will stop being a rage-filled bloodthirsty idiot and stop pretending his old self is gone, thrawn keeps trying to unearth anakins chutzpah and his valor and his anakin-ness, and it's not until the epilogue that thrawn has accepted that, one way or another, anakin has gone and there's just a tired, vindictive cyborg in his place
