Oh this is exactly what I was hoping for when I asked for prompts. Thank you SO much!

Bojan & Jan. 800 words. Rated G. (Covid mention rip.)

"Whoa!" Bojan recoils. "Are you sick?"

Jan rolls his eyes. "Is it that obvious?" He's sure just the sight of his face would've been enough to have Bojan come to that conclusion, but the blanket around his shoulders isn't helping.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"You didn't let me know you were coming by."

Bojan huffs. "Man, I was hoping we could go for a walk."

Jan rasps a laugh. "You’re not beating the dog allegations."

It makes Bojan laugh too. "Woof, I guess."

"I can't offer a walk, I think my lungs would collapse."

"Shit," Bojan hisses, "did it hit you hard?" Jan gives him a half-assed shrug and leans against the open frame of his front door. "Do you need anything?"

"Eh," Jan makes, "I don't think so. Been trying to get my ass up to make something to eat but couldn't find the energy, but now that I got upright to open the door for you I might actually get around to it."

Bojan seems to consider that for a second, eyeing him up and down, then comes to a conclusion. "Okay, get inside, onto the couch, I'll make you something."

Jan raises his eyebrows at him. "You are not going to step foot into my germ-infested apartment, you'll catch this shit instantly."

"We'll just—open the window or something," Bojan tries, already making a shooing motion at Jan. "I'm not gonna let you suffer on your own."

Jan does his own considering—Bojan looks as conflicted as expected, the worry for his friend and the one for his own immune system battling behind his eyes. But Jan is too weak and too tired to pass on the offer of having someone cook for him. So he steps to the side, watches Bojan take a deep breath of still safe air before he passes the threshold, and follows him into the apartment.

Bojan speedwalks towards the window in the living room, breath still held, and rips it open, only breathing out once a few seconds of fresh air have made it past him.

"You're so dramatic," Jan comments as he heaves himself back onto the couch.

"Anything to not catch whatever you're having," Bojan explains as he opens the next window.

“So sharing clothes is fine but sharing viruses isn’t?” Jan asks. Bojan levels him with a glare. Jan laughs, which instantly evolves into a coughing fit Bojan is shying away from like he’s the devil. Jan forgoes a comment and just lays down on the cushions.

The kitchen and living room are connected—to Jan’s benefit and Bojan’s dismay—so they chat idly while Bojan cooks. Or as idly as Jan can, wrapped in three blankets so they can keep one window open, to protect Bojan’s Victorian child of an immune system. Jan would like to say that he approves of the choice, for Bojan’s safety, but considering his bone-deep shiver he’s kind of cursing the man to hell and back.

“Okay,” Bojan announces once he has the teetering tray in a somewhat confident hold on his way to the couch, “the ultimate recovery menu.” He places it down on the coffee table.

Jan rolls himself up into a sitting position, feeling like a caterpillar has to halfway through its transformation, and gives the tray a once-over—a big mug of tea, a bowl of soup he wishes he could smell, a packet of tissues, cough drops, cough syrup, a small glass with what has to be a ginger shot, and not one but two Covid tests.

“It’s not Covid,” is the first thing Jan comments.

“Have you tested?”

“Duh. Do you think I would’ve let you in if I had Covid?”

“For my own peace of mind,” Bojan insists. “Please.”

Covid tests done, both of them, both negative, half his lung sneezed out into the room, soup and ginger shot devoured, Jan can finally recline again. That was about the energy he could muster for the day.

“Thanks,” he finally says, already half dipping into sleep.

“Gladly,” Bojan responds easily.

“Are you sure?”

The smile stays on Bojan’s face. “Not really, pissing my pants scared I’ll get sick too now, still, but I’m glad if it helped you.”

Jan heaves a sigh. “It did, I feel better already.”

“That’s good. You should nap now though.”

Jan nods in slow agreement.

“Want me to stick around?”

“And increase your chances of getting sick?”

“I’ll probably have caught it by now anyway.” He nudges his head towards the bedroom. “Go to bed, I’ll air out the room again and stay for a bit. Reheat the soup again later.”

Jan’s chest swelled with gratitude for his friend. “Thank you. You’re the best.”

“I know, I know.”

Jan turns again on his way to the bedroom, a sluggish move that almost makes him dizzy. “I hope your immune system survives this, I wouldn’t wish this upon you.”

Kris Guštin Hair Debate: Results

The results are in. First off, I'd like to point out that this survey/research was carried to investigate if there might be any cultural patterns in the debate regarding Kris's hair colour. I don't believe there's any definite answer to the question apart from whatever Kris says. Other than that, though, it's just about culture and language being different. Results below the cut!

The end results were as follows: Brunette 82, Blonde 45, and Ginger 4. We got answers from 34 different countries! Apologies to the Scots. I had to lump you together with the English since some people wrote UK, some wrote England and some wrote Scotland.

The lower the score, the bigger advantage for blonde. The higher the score, the bigger advantage for brunette. A score of 0 means blonde and brunette were equal. I don't know if Jan would approve of my usage of the term 'coefficient' but you probably get what I mean.

To me, there seems to be a geographical/cultural difference on people's stance in the question, with Northern Europe leaning more towards brunette and Central Europe leaning more towards blonde. What do you think? Do you think we can draw any conclusions?
