Although there was nothing outwardly projected toward his companion that reflected any sort of immediate upset at his statement of fact, that wasn't to say that he didn't FEEL it. Zack felt many things too deeply, and believe it or not, sometimes he knew when to quell his responses for later.

All his attention and energy was instead placed on the impossibility of their current dilemma, and the hurdle they would need to cross in order to CREST it.

"Helluva time to launch THAT on me, friend." Zack's gaze was unwavering in its penetration of the enemies straight ahead. If it had the capacity of blowing up the threat on its own, there would be nothing standing directly in front of them! As it was, his body was ITCHING, burning to launch him into the fray.

"Giving up already?" Blue eyes flickered finally to regard Cloud at his side. "The path we've chosen is a difficult one. It's going to lead more often than not to us being dragged through the mud. And sometimes to ends that seem insurmountable. But.... there's people waiting on the other side. What would Tifa say to hear you say that?" He smiled. "So don't give up. Besides, I'm right here beside you. We'll work together to get through it. I need you're help."

It wasn't very often that Zack's voice was rife anger. That was one of those occurrences, no part of his intonation without a harsh element that spoke his disapproval in no amount of uncertain terms. By the hand of Lady Luck, and all the various unspeakable variations of chance, the two of them had escaped by the skin of their teeth to live to tell the tale.

But it wasn't completely unscathed. A Soldier was able to take risks that perhaps the average citizen would never chosen to do [even after thinking twice about the options], but sometimes those choices had consequences.

Zack leaned back against a rocky wall, taking a moment to simply breath and allow his heart to come down from on high.

"You're not usually so compulsive. What's gotten into you?"

"somehow. miraculously." rufus replies with a small shrug. there was no hostility in his voice, just the default monotone. he could almost be amused by the fact that he's somehow still alive, but holding that in for anyone but cloud -- unsure of how dark humor would get away with the blond. the question earns another shrug. rufus could tell cloud whatever he wanted, and cloud would have to believe him, right?

"wonderfully." rufus had no intentions of it, right now. "everything is going as planned. no one has lost any fingers in rebuilding the frame."

"So are you." Cloud says this with neither relief or distain ; just stating a simple fact. There was no love lost between Rufus and his Turks. While Tifa had a warmer reception to them these days Cloud made it clear under no uncertain terms they may not be enemies but they were not allies. His eyes leave Rufus to scope around their surroundings making no notion to hide he's snooping about.

"How's 'rebuilding ShinRa' going?" He doesn't expect an honest answer.

Aerith, however, has always been an empathetic person. It's in her very nature. She always tries to understand where people are coming from, and maybe Cloud is right. Maybe that will lead her exactly to where fate wants her...but it's fine. So she smiles, rocking back on her heels before she leans down and picks one of the flowers out of the ground, sticking it into his shirt.

"Don't think about it too hard, okay? I know you worry about me, even if you're gonna say otherwise. I appreciate it, but whatever happens down the road...I won't regret any of it."

[12-21-2021] I know I shared this in my "Stories" but here's the progress of my Kenwood DDX6706S headunit with JDM Double-Din dash kit in my 2006 Subaru Legacy GT Spec.B. The OEM stereo had a non-functioning 6-disc changer and no means for an AUX (I was previously using a cheap BlueTooth speaker in my cup holder). I can now listen to the music I like, old CDs I have, all that new-new. Still need to figure out steering wheel controls and AndroidAuto but I can get to that later. I like the look of it (although, it would've been nice to have the shift panel in that matching black as well). I previously had fitment issues (one side had major gaps) but I got that all sorted out. Not perfect but MUCH better. Overall, I'm glad I finally got it done. Just one step closer to having my ideal ride. There was another problem though. Denzel was somewhat out of practice when it came to fighting, just a little. "Uh...Cloud? Tifa says that prepping before fighting is important. What am I s'pposed to practice on before or even if Genesis shows up?" There was a moment of quiet, as the boy shifted his legs on in front of the other.

"Am I supposed to practice against you?" It was a major longshot. A kid going against a full-grown adult? Might as well be putting him up against Barrett. Yet, Denzel was eager to prove himself whether it be in real practice or just play-sparring. "I bet I can do it! Maybe...If you're not as hard as some video game bosses..."

"You let me worry about Tifa. I'd rather get get the look n' scolded and you bring a bozo to his knees than letting someone run all over you." He's sure Tifa would rather that too - but she'd also wanted Denzel to stay away from danger as it was. Cloud personally thought she just didn't understand... well, boys. He remembers his own childhood and it was filled with fights. Sometimes you had to do what you had to do and he was a scrappy thing.
