i was dropped into this simulation in the early 80s, i'm a disabled artist (vision impaired - [ask me about my atrophied optic nerves] - & have some other Issues so i use a cane) & my wife and i host two black cats, roughly 35% of a mannequin, and a whole lot of dolls.

all my art is trad/physical media (haven't figured out a way to make digital art accessible yet. maybe someday!! i like to sculpt in epoxy, plastilene, polymer & stone clay, i like to mold & cast in resin, make & customize various types of dolls, & build puppets; i do custom framed work, mixed media & textile stuff like sewing & embroidery; i paint in oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache & water soluble graphite & i love ink, markers, crayons & whatever cheap & weird stuff i can get my hands on.

i have a particular affection for props, prop replicas & hypothetical in-universe items, & i like things that are handsome, durable & believable. i'm versatile & innovative, & i'm at my happiest when i'm exploring technical processes. i have quite a bit of knowledge about techniques & materials. i love a challenge!! currently all my sewing is done by hand, i have trouble controlling pedal-operated machines.

my favorite thing is horror coated in a fine layer of nostalgia & sprinkled with history. that seems highly specific, but you'd be surprised how many things fit the criteria. i tend to fixate on characters & concepts & do a lot of art about it - a habit i developed while i was re-teaching myself to draw after the changes to my eyesight. my output is largely therapeutic. sometimes people like it. maybe you will too!!

yes, I know what his art looks like.! I imagine he has a very ligne claire kind of art- do you know the adventures of tintin and moebius comics? It looks like that. He draws very simplistically, almost like Chinese watercolor on occasion -

Pablo illustrates with a steady hand- he grinds his own paints too, clays and natural pigments from riverbeds and plants on his walks- Ligne Claire works for him- His lines are strong- and he can actually afford ink; While his colors are very earthy- ground clays and coals mixed in honey or gum Arabic- poor poor lightfastness, but his talent as an artist can be seen through his lines. Lea obsessively kept the drawings Pablo gifted him; In a little mini suitcase under a loose floorboard. In Pablo's old age, the new residents of The House find the drawings and marvel at Pablo's talent, very precious few of his drawings remain, and they survived the test of time because a boy loved him and how he saw the world.

P.S

Pablo's favorite possession in the world was a wooden case carved with rosettes and little leaves of shiny capiz shells. Inside there were square pots of gouache, gifted to him by Lea, Bianca and Maximo (all three of them saved up and stole a little for it.) The paints remain untouched- Pablo has lied that it was tempera paint so that no one would try to steal it, but it was genuine, high quality gouache- yellowed, cracked and dried from decades of no use. Pablo keeps it beside him always.

please tell me about the pigments i would love nothing more than to hear you talk about that one shade of red you like and the process it took too recreate it

... oh, op. you have no idea what you've unleashed.

alright. here we go.

OKAY SO THE RED PIGMENT. pr206. my beloved. my dearest friend. it was an absolute bastard to find because there are so many of these. however many you think there are, there are MORE, and that's only if you don't count the many many scenarios where colors are known to be multi-pigment mixes, usually varying in tone/shade/intensity depending on the brand and manufacturing style. some colors are more consistent than others, but there are situations where a color can be named the same and contain the same pigments and STILL look wildly different depending on the ratio, binder, and paper you use. and that's not accounting for the way the pigment is processed. some pigments (like pv19 for example) can come in so many shades it's frankly kind of ridiculous.

anyway, my quest begins when i am, admittedly, in an edgier phase. i want a blood red, but not specifically because of that—no, i want it because it is THE IDEAL COLOR (to me) for a perfect, warm, slightly muted but still intense shade to add to a muted autumn watercolor palette. and... if you look at my whole theme, you probably know how much i love warm colors. i want to paint mushrooms. i want to dim down some of the brighter greens to make them autumnal. i want the perfect red to put as an undertone.

the search starts in earnest.

the immediate issue is this: reds (and purples and pinks) have horrifically bad lightfastness. not all of them, mind, but many are NOTORIOUS for fading under uv light, which means they will also fade if exposed to sunlight even in passing should it happen often enough. and—in especially bad cases where they're essentially working with dye and not pigment—they can even fade inside your notebook. inside of a drawer.

so not only are we working with an unfortunate pigment base (i'm simplifying here, there's way more nuance to this but shh) but we are working with one that skews heavily toward floral pinks or oranges. the red i'm searching for is warm, but not orange. dries dark but not brown. is transparent, not opaque. that last part is agonizing, because i also desperately do not want a color that will fade on me or generally destabilize, and most of the stable dark red pigments are EARTH pigments like red ochre (pr101) or the like. which, while fascinating because of their historical usage in things like pottery and even cave paintings that last to the modern day, are VERY OPAQUE. this is an issue with my preferred style of watercolor painting specifically, because opaque pigments tend to lift easier off the page and limit layering.

the search continues. pigment after pigment breaks my heart for one reason or another, drying too close to the cooler purpleish-red tint of wine at best. i think i find it in perylene maroon, but the drying shift (the difference between how a color looks wet vs after it dries on the paper) is so extreme that it loses the luminosity AND it's more opaque than most. i languish.

for a while my search turns to creation. i try and mix as many of my single pigment colors as i can into something that vaguely resembles what i'm looking for—so i take quinacridones and mix them with napthols, with nickel azos, with dashes of ultramarines and burnt sienna. everything turns out either just a bit too opaque, just a bit too muddy (that happens with multi-pigment mixtures, and is why so many people swear by single pigment colors. it's personal preference, really, great art can be made either way.)

still, nothing works. failure haunts me. i sit before a pile of used up watercolor paper that is literally covered edge to edge in nothing but similar red squares with various gradients and blooms as evidence of when i tried and failed to convince myself my efforts were close enough. i admit defeat.

in the meantime i shift my focus. i try and appreciate different color palettes and profiles, experimenting with things like fully transparent palettes (personal favroite) to fully opaque ones that function more like gouache. but despite finding appreciation for it, i still think about the damn red that i could never recreate. it kills me.

and then one day, a youtube video. a pigment is being discontinued, and the watercolor community is distressed. this happens a lot, because pigments are actually not always popular because of artists—sometimes beloved colors are put out of production because larger markets like car companies no longer find them popular enough to invest in. this time, the casualty is pr206, aka brown madder, aka quinacridone burnt scarlet.

let me tell you a little about quinacridones. they are genuinely remarkable colors. they have their own cult followings because of how bright and abnormally stable they are under uv light. they're transparent. they're luminous. they come in mostly shades of red and pink and purple, though there are a couple oranges and yellows in there. (there are no quinacridone blues, as far as i'm aware, but the phthalo blues have that category covered.) they also rewet beautifully, so you can put them on your palette and let them dry and not worry about it turning into a useless little rock of color that you can't get any pigment from anymore.

quinacridone magenta (pr122) is probably the most popular of these, the most often used besides maybe quinacridone violet (pv19). a few years prior we suffered the loss of quinacridone gold (po49) and since then people have been On Alert when it comes to losing these colors. i am one of them, because i never got the chance to even see po49 in person, and now the tubes are so stupid expensive that even the student grade versions go for Ridiculously High Prices on ebay, and the professional brands are being hoarded like (ironically) gold by anyone lucky enough to have a tube left over.

but back to our main character. not me, the pigment. pr206. i have legitimately never heard of this one, which to be fair is probably because i try to limit the random colors i fixate on since the hobby can easily get VERY expensive if you aren't careful. but it's a quinacridone, and that catches my eye.

i open the video.

now, i'm sure any artist out there will be familiar with the fact that screens don't display color consistently. it depends on your device, but most can agree that something that looks cooler on one may be warmer on the other, it's just what happens. but i see this color being swatched, and my brain implodes.

it's almost a perfect match.

it could work. it could. years of thinking that same thought have left me bereft and mistrustful of this specific quest marker, but the thought refuses to leave me. probably because the 'discontinued' label flashes like a neon sign.

i resist for about six months, and then i cave. at this point i have genuinely been trying and failing to find this color for upwards of five years. i am desperate, and the color might not be available anymore soon anyway, and apparently i am weak to sales pitches. (note: the color IS now unavailable in some brands, but others bought a decent supply and should have it available for at least a little while, alongside po48 which is quinacridone burnt orange, a favorite of mine and probably one of the only oranges i use regularly. both are discontinued officially, but they'll still be on sale till those supplies run dry.)

the color arrives. i grab my favorite brush. i pull out my stash of paper that i save for special occasions.

it's almost perfect.

i mix it with quinacridone burnt orange.

the result is, i swear, a perfect match for what i have been searching for.

it's warm. it dries dark but not dark enough to look brown. it keeps its luminosity (thank you quinacridones). it's fully transparent (thank you quinacridones). i genuinely feel the urge to weep, but i don't because i am clinging at last to the dredges of my sanity and also salt makes watercolor pigments behave differently and i will not risk this glorious moment. finally, after all these years, bill cipher has a gun i found the goddamn COLOR.

i mix it with warm yellows and with my favorite blues. with the pinks, just to laugh. life is beautiful and i am painting its sunsets, and i do not care if they look ridiculously messy. i have won.

the moral of the story is to never give up. or maybe it's to remember you never actually know everything about even the fields you love the most, because this color totally blindsided me despite being much more common than i expected. or maybe it's that i seriously needed to chill out for a while.

but yes. that is the tale of one (1) of the colors that has taken up residence in my soul. i hope you don't regret asking now lmao.

The Annotated Anne of Green Gables ~~ a special rereading

a little intro on how i will be doing things for this: generally I will not be commenting much on the story itself but more on the notes in the book i find most interesting and expanding/analyzing them :)

CHAPTER I ~~ Mrs. Rachel Lynde is Surprised + the epigraph

"The good stars met in your horoscope,/Made you of spirit and fire and dew." -Browning

This line is the first bit of text given by Montgomery, as seen in the epigraph. It comes from the poem "Evelyn Hope," by Robert Browning. This poem is about an old man lamenting the death of sixteen-year-old Evelyn and his love for her, which she never experienced. While the context makes this poem more morbid, the lines themselves are beautiful and lyrical. I am trying to figure out why Montgomery chose these lines to introduce Anne. Was it some deeper meaning she found in the poem? Was it the image of Evelyn that these lines describe? Did it match her image of Anne? Or something else entirely? Let me know what you think! (A watercolor of Evelyn from 1908 is above, and here is the poem)

"Mrs. Rachel Lynde lived just where the Avonlea main road dipped down into a little hollow, fringed with alders and ladies' eardrops and traversed by a brook that had its source away back in the woods of the old Cuthbert place; it was reputed to be an intricate, headlong brook in its earlier course through the woods, with dark secrets of pool and cascade."

The first line of the actual story (more like a complex sentence)! I just wanted to take a second to appreciate our scenery here and specifically talk about the "ladies' eardrops." When first reading, I knew this must be a plant, for it followed alders, but I knew nothing about it. The more common names include jewelweed and spotted touch-me-not. This plant is native to North America and is mostly found near creeks. It spreads very rapidly and does not need cross-pollination! Actually, in the State of Washington, it is considered a weed due to its fast reproduction. I think that including this plant with specifically that uncommon name for it is used to draw us into the almost fantastical world full of wonder that is Anne's soon-to-be home, Prince Edward Island. Because even if you do not know which plant the name refers to, the name shouts beauty and delicacy. I have even more thoughts about the symbolism of this plant but fear that I might be looking too much into something that might just be a passing reference. Oh and above is a photo of ladies' eardrops!

"Mrs. Rachel found abundant time to sit for hours at her kitchen window, knitting "cotton warp" quilts -- she had knitted sixteen of them, as Avonlea housekeepers were wont to tell in awed voices."

While Rachel Lynde must have 'abundant time,' she also must be extremely fast at knitting. "Cotton warp" refers to a kind of yarn used for weaving, and she was actually making a bedspread. With this type of yarn, knit squares were not a thing; instead, she would have used elaborate lacy patterns. After researching, I found a post in which a woman described how long her mother took to crochet a similar type of quilt. It took her mother approximately 300 to 400 hours to complete. And Rachel knit sixteen of them and is on her seventeenth at this point. No wonder the Avonlea housekeepers were in awe. But that is not the end of her quilts. She gives Anne six quilts while in college (five are just lent, though), Diana gets one for her wedding, and another two for Anne upon her own wedding (also not clear if any of these are newly knitted for the occasion or ones she already has). Also, our favorite person, Lucy Maud Montgomery, knit three of her own 'cotton warp' quilts in her lifetime. One of which is known as the 'Crazy Quilt,' and a photo is above!

This chapter didn't have too many notes that I found super interesting, for most of them had to do with geography, and it is a shorter chapter, so I hope you enjoyed my findings on these three topics!

Art of Mage: The Ascension

Recently, a big event happened: I started playing MtA again, and I was forced to read. To be honest, I still find it difficult to read long and complex texts in English, but it's great practice. It's not the first time I've opened the rule book, but now I somehow paid special attention to the arts. And they are very cool there! This is the book I want to talk about. And this is an old book, after which, I think, a lot has changed in the world of illustration. But I'm just curious how it was. Was this book successful? What do you think about it?

At first, I wanted to find the specific author of each picture, but despite the existence of such a list, it turned out to be a difficult task. So today I will only comment on the art, not the artists. I am not a professional because my art has never been used for such books, but I want to share my impressions and thoughts.

There were a lot of such cards there and they are also quite cool, and the main thing is that they look in their place and really look like real tarot cards in design and vibe. Although this is not the art that interests me the most, I couldn't help but mention them here.

Really cool. It seems to be something from traditional materials, similar to watercolor, maybe with the addition of something else. If you look closely, you can see the remains of a pencil. Look at the head. Is everything drawn anatomically correct? No. But does it create the right mood? Yes!

Art by Mark Jackson if I'm not mistaken. Kinda reminds me of Sandman from the comics, don't you think? I wonder if this kind of black and white line art is still used in modern books? Must check.

This art... I was a little surprised to see it in the book. I worked in the game industry and was used to the fact that everything should be casually polished (thanks to gamejams for allowing me to deviate from this rule). Right here... a dynamic plot, but work with the clarity of the picture, color, volume, lighting... on some details it is simply not there. It has its own style. A lot of work on small details requires patience, not everyone can draw so many small details and not get lost in them. I love when people do not lose the courage to draw in a unique style

So many talented artists with small audiences on Twitter or Tumblr can do the same. Although not. Not "the same", because no one will do "the same" in creativity. At the same level - yes. But here's what fascinated me and made me think: so many artists with such different styles in one book. Unbelievable. It would be very interesting to be a part of something like that. Now I want to review new books from this point of view. I used to look at them as a reader, but now...

Only one trend worries me. Some time ago I had a conversation with the author of this book It was an interesting but a little sad conversation. The author says that, at best, he will receive not so much for this book. He says that he cannot pay the artists as well, because then he will have nothing left. It's a shame, but the only solution he found was to use the AI. I wanted to read the text of the book, because Umbra is a very interesting topic. I even had the opportunity to read it for free as a free copy provided by the author. I did not read it. One of the comments says that the art there is well-suited, although it was created by AI. I do not know. I don't want to see it even for free. I think it brings Banality into the world, destroys the dreams of small artists to be part of something great. I can understand a small author of a small book that won't make much money. It's just sad. I can only hope that the trend does not spread to the whole world. It will really be the time of Winter. And no more magic in this technocratic world.

Florence + The Machine is my favorite band ever, ever. So lots of their music is on pretty much all of my playlists. I was listening to my favorites list while I was writing yesterday and that's the one that cropped up last.

Currently watching: TV? Shows? I don't know her. I actually don't make much time for tv at all. I will catch a couple shows a year but they have to be really compelling for me to want to spend the time on that.

Currently reading: OOh a good time to share a few of the open fanfics I'm in the middle of right now! First four tabs but I have something like 14 or 15 open right now I rotate through. Hollow Men by @thana-topsy Gathering Souls by @paraparadigm and @polypolymorph Serious Mistakes by @changelingsandothernonsense In The Midst of Winter by @thequeenofthewinter I am also still reading The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi by SA Chakraborty, which is admittedly fun and excellent, but I'm on a fanfic kick right now. My friends are fricken phenomenal authors, to be perfectly honest. And how often can you jump on discord and keyboard smash with your favorite authors about your favorite stories? This is why fandom can be so much fun when it's not being weird. :>

First is hand binding sketchbooks!

This is an older one but still a fave because it turned out super pretty :D It's a watercolor sketchbook I made for my friend.

idk there's just something super relaxing about not having to think once the entire project is set up and it's down to sewing the signatures together. Huge fan of the zen of making these and even though I don't personally need more sketchbooks I will often just make one for the hell of it. I'm also learning how to do case binding but it's messier than this.

The other is fountain pens! I don't do layout posts anymore like I used to, but I can still share some of them -- I use the inks in artwork all the time and anything I write on paper is usually done in fountain pens. My favorite ones to use right now are TWSBI Ecos -- specifically a white and rose gold one :> My favorite ink is LAMY Dark Violet but it's discontinued...so I am sparing with that one lol

ok so...we all saw the flurry of Bandom Racism discussion happening. and i have...thoughts.

i know this is late, in theory because i wanted to get my thoughts together, but honestly mainly because i didnt know what to say, so part of me was annoyed that i felt obligated to say anything at all. bc im not nearly as active in bandom as my blog probably makes it look, i didnt learn 90% of the Lore until september and all of that i learned from mcrblr. im new! i dont know about any of this! much less about the racism. so...why am i expected to talk about it? what is there for me to say?

...and over the past few days, its slowly sunk in for me that thats exactly the point.

of COURSE i dont see the racism in the fandom, or know what to say about it. because either none of the other white liberal fans in my circle do, or we just... dont talk about it. and i think when we do know, we dont talk about it, because we feel like its not our place. we dont know what to say, and especially if we feel like we had any hand in it, we're... embarassed? i know i am. and like...i hesitate to list examples, because i dont want to come across as self flagellating. one, because its got to be annoying for people of color, and two, because...i dunno. i dont want to make other white people think thats whats required, to be anti racist? because i think thats one of the assumptions we're laboring under, like...we've created this environment of really aggressive Discourse, so when it comes to racism, and unpacking our own...we talk in really vague terms, we never get past the "UwU!!! Dont Be Racist!!!!" PSAs because naming our own transgressions means admitting to wrongdoing, which is embarassing at the best of times, but in the very spaces we've created, generally being found out as Doing Something Wrong means getting jumped on by other white people for the purpose of their own moral preening so no one will suspect them of the same. so...why willingly subject yourself to that? especially if whatever you have to say, whatever it is in your behaviour you want to discuss, may be triggering to people of color. simply not mentioning it feels like the better - and safer - option.

but...thats what leads to us not knowing enough about all this to feel confident talking about it in the first place.

i dunno. last week, im one of the people who looked right at that piece of art with franks rising sun tattoo, and went... "huh. hey, theres that tattoo he got covered up because it was offensive. i should look into that. ...anyway, cool art!" and hit reblog.

and like...once people started talking about it, (theres one specific post, forget who its by, someone talking about mcrs history with anti asian racism, great post thank you for making it) i felt...bad? but i also felt kinda defensive. in thinking back on it, i was like..."well, im glad to know that now. but dude im not familiar with his tattoos. i kind of assumed what i was looking at was the covered up version where its sort of peeking through. idk it was a watercolor it was kinda garbled. i wont blame myself for not thinking any harder than that."

and then i was like... okay but. if im honest with myself, thats still bad. because it doesnt matter, since i probably wouldve reblogged it anyway, just assuming it was for the sake of photo accuracy or what have you...because i still didnt fucking know or care what the rising sun flag was.

which was the whole point.

because if i HAD. if i HAD done my research when id first heard about it, months ago, i would have recognized that art for what it was and treated it with the wide berth it deserved and avoided it regardless of my knowledge of his stupid fucking tattoo. but i didnt, for a host of reasons. mainly executive dysfunction, general stress in my personal life (nunya bidness) and...if im being honest? i just didnt want to, because...i hate self teaching. i have adhd. i was homeschooled, it was really traumatic, i flunked all of highschool and had to get a GED. my reading comprehension and attention span are piss poor. so i didn't feel like looking into it. i didnt feel like giving myself a whole impromptu history lesson. i opened one wiki page and instantly got overwhelmed.

but thats also the point. because all those reasons for not doing my due diligence and reading up on why asian fans are so pressed about the rising sun tattoo? or why black fans want nothing to do with 21p? the same shit probably applies to them! they don't feel like doing it either, we just give them no choice until eventually they make giant ass posts, comprehensive, easy to digest, step by step posts, for the express purpose of doing what we all refuse to do.

and, again, theres that feeling of guilt. guilt and shame, because im admitting to this, and because i know how reading this is gonna make other white fans feel, because i just went through the exact same set of feelings, and its uncomfortable as hell. so i can only imagine how fans of color have felt.

im not making this to browbeat white fans, or to self flagellate to fans of color. this isnt a soap box or a confession booth. im just.. talking. so lets talk. im gonna be honest, i still havent done real research into the rising sun flag. im literally just now looking at the wikipedia page for imperial japan, which i just now opened, and i still feel just as overwhelmed. (does anyone have good material on learning about this? if i find any, ill post it in reblogs.)

but...yeah. this isnt an UwU!!! Dont Be Racist!!!! you know what. I know I keep saying I want to experiment with my art style a couple of times and after a while of thinking about it off and on (like. several years) but it's because I realized that like. I've experienced and put myself through a bunch of psychological bullshit in regards to how my art and the style I've had to develop is perceived. I started out drawing cartoony styles and eventually when I started to get into anime in the mid 2000s I started emulating the styles I liked. naruto in particular definitely helped me start to draw more, and then atla, and copying images in game informers of like the trauma center games and such, and when I got to art class in high school I had my teacher tell me that yeah you can draw cartoons but you can also do realism, and I think if you're gonna continue doing art you should stick to realism. standard fare for a child raised in the 00s

but the worst offender is when I became active on the internet

i love drawing what most people would consider anime. I'm also really good at realism as far as I can tell. there's no need for me to have to choose to survive as an artist but like. I went through a phase of no longer thinking anime and video games were cool and became your typical superwholock blogger, and then came the MASSIVE wave of realistic or semi-realistic styles becoming what everyone wanted to see, and I feel like part of that has to be from other kids that experienced their art teachers telling them that cartoons and anime would never serve them as an artist, and then a large part of it came from the fact that anime was never really cool

but anyways, there was a very big boom of the only popular fanarts you ever saw were the hyper realistic types that were massively detailed and I was gaslit into believing that yeah, I can't have fun with my art, and if I do then it has to be proportionate to real life and always has to be palatable to the main audience of "don't have fun with your art" unless you're mimicking a Hanna Barbera cartoon and had plans to make art a job or you could only ever make money off of your art and don't forget to do commissions or sell your art or you aren't a Real Artist, so I've done so much work to learn anatomy and lighting and all of that just to come right back around with the set of rules but now I can break them

so I'm so happy that I get to be in a time now where yeah there's still the majority of artists that have only ever developed a hyper realistic style and that's okay, but now it's more acceptable to have fun with your art, have it be scratchy and disproportional and give them big anime eyes and don't worry about etching out details for everything. I never felt like I was happy with making my art look real and I want to go back to my roots of cartoons and anime and scribbling with oil pastels and never using watercolor correctly. I got so boring with my colors and my poses for the past seven years specifically because I just wasn't ever happy with anything I made and I want to make things that make me happy, and if the first step was to only draw selfship art then like, so be it, because that's where I started too

trust me I'm not knocking anyone for their art styles but I am saying that there shouldn't have to be a single road you have to take to become palatable as an artist, the only thing that matters is if art is fun for you, if you're making things you like, and god dammit, you do NOT have to sell your art to be a good artist

Hi! I saw the post with your dolls and I wanted to say I am totally in love!! I wondered if maybe you would be willing to share more pictures? The button irises and embroidered lashes are so so charming, the impression is so cute and I love their expressions so so much

In all honesty the button and embroidery combo really inspires me to try something similar! I have always done full embroidery or embroidery and pencil for faces on my cloth dolls but I am just so taken. They really leave a mark! Their faces are just so striking!!

And the clothes you made!! They are so impressive! Clothes are the hardest part to me, most dolls I have made are chilling in an underwear party haha

I'm so happy to be getting good feedback on the dolls I make, it's not something I usually show to other people and it makes the whole thing feel more "real", if that makes any sense. A few people have commented on the way I do eyes/faces specifically, and that's SO cool to me I can't even begin to tell you- I've done a lot of experimenting in that department, and even now I'm not entirely settled on how to do it. With my white fox girl, I actually went and made 3d lashes for her out of felt (highly recommend, it stands out beautifully and holds up well over time) but didn't do any blushing with pastels/color, but on my Aunt's dolls I did a lot of color, like watercolor pencil for the freckles (not very happy about getting wet, but not a horrible way to do it)... I might never make up my mind, lol! Right now I'm working on a dragon themed doll whose going to be a BIG experiment.

And totally agreed, clothing is the hardest part- I don't use patterns for my dolls (because I think it's more fun just to mess it up a thousand times lol) and let me tell you that does NOT make it easier. My big secret is that I just cover everything in trims and ribbons to hide the poor stitching- EVERYTHING looks nicer if you put a ruffle on it!

If you look at my one doll in the purple skirt, she has a super big shirt on and that's because the black wolf girl was supposed to have that shirt, but the torso was slightly too thin! I spent hours on that shirt and tried my best to make a real collar and I still messed it up. Thank God it looks good on her, though!! I always get so excited for the clothes stage but this is always how it goes- whoever I think I'm making clothing for is never the one who recieves it.

There's also one more doll I never showed off! She was the second(?) doll I ever made- she's supposed to be a little ghost, to haunt the other ones!

Her bonnet always slips over her eyes, lol. I used a technique on her I haven't used since, where I used black and grey/brown pastels to shade the white fabric- I may have to try it again sometime, she was really better for it <3

A Cruel Angel’s Thesis (Fanfic)

New chapter from my main series 🩷

It was the start of the twilight and Pinocchio found himself outside the St. Frangelico Cathedral, he wanted to draw the outside specifically at this hour, he had his sketchbook with him, and he was using watercolors, trying out how beautiful he could make the sky look.

He had to come back before 9 pm, Pinocchio could tell that his father didn’t want him to go at night at all but that his father knew that he had to trust him and not be too overprotective, something that his doctor told him, Pinocchio wasn’t paying to much attention as he was getting all of his art supplies ready when his father was talking to him.

When Pinocchio was done, it started to rain, he put his sketchbook inside his bag and decided to enter the Cathedral, as the rain didn’t look like it would stop any time soon, and going back with all that rain would be a nightmare.

A lot of people were inside, waiting for the rain to stop as well, many talking to the congregation members and others making small talk, some people silently praying. Pinocchio decided to wander around a little, it had been a long time since he was here and he liked seeing the place in a better state.

“Excuse me, my child” A soft voice was heard behind him.

Pinocchio turned around to see a nun, he almost didn’t recognize her, mainly because she was missing an arm, it looked like it had to be amputated for her to survive.

“Cecile good to see you!” It was good, he hadn’t heard from her in such a long time.

“Please lower your voice, this is a church” Cecile put her finger in between her lips, but gave Pinocchio a sweet smile.

“Oh yes sorry” Pinocchio mumbled.

“God has answered my prayers, I am so pleased to see you again” Cecile grabbed Pinocchio’s hand and dragged him out to a a room where they could speak in private.

It happened so fast, Pinocchio wondered what was wrong, Cecile was acting really weird. Well, she has been a little strange since the first time he met her but that’s not the point.

Cecile’s voice was quiet “Something awful is happening beneath the Cathedral” She stayed silent for a few seconds, hearing if someone was nearby but the coast was clear, “Those alchemists, it’s them again and this time I won’t stay silent, I won’t let them get away with this again”

Cecile almost broke her vow to never kill again, she was just so enraged, this isn’t fair, the new bishop it’s under their thumb and maybe she is a hypocrite because Andreus, the man she has always seen as a savior was consumed in greed just as the new bishop, but she isn’t going to let that happen twice. She won’t let this place be sullied any longer and not just for her sake but other congregation members are scared as well, those who refuse to accept the money are being threatened with their silence. At least she has managed to play dumb for a long time and no one suspects how much she knows.

“How can I help?” Pinocchio was determined, he always went everywhere with a weapon just in case and this was serious.

“The underground of the cathedral has been sealed, they claimed that it was because it was too hard to repair, but I have overheard that the abandoned altar is now one of their bases of operations”

The public is allowed to go past the library, the rest has been sealed from them and the other church members, but Cecile has seen plenty of people come and go through a locked door. She has seen how the key looks, they just need to get their hands on…

“Huh?! That key” Cecile pointed at Pinocchio’s neck, he was wearing the necklace Giangio had given him.

“What about it?” Pinocchio was confused and it didn’t help that Cecile started giving a speech about God and faith. Oh well, considering he knows her secret, that behavior is probably a good thing compared to what she did in the past.

Cecile was holding Pinocchio’s hand and she looked directly into his eyes “I know it’s too much to ask kind one, but please I beg you to save this place, you can use the key to open the door”

This is a little too sudden but Pinocchio loves to help others so he will, he promises her that he will take a look and the timing is just perfect, as the rain is dying down and most people are leaving.

Cecile silently takes him to the library, so as to not attract too much attention she gives him some priest robes so that he can blend in, she takes Pinocchio to a place he recognizes, there is a gate, and now behind that gate a locked door.

“I will pray for your safety but please, be careful”

With that said, Cecile rushes upstairs, not without pulling the leaver that will lead him deeper inside. Pinocchio wastes no time in using the key to get inside, that's odd, how did Giangio get his hands on this? Maybe he picked up a random key as a memento, hopefully, he isn't in danger from this mess.

This place has certainly changed a lot.

It’s filled with medical equipment and there are machines that have inside a strange orange liquid; piles of books and journals, Pinocchio gets closer and grabs one that was left separate from the others.

Research Journal

Harnessing the power of those disruption crystals has been more than wonderful for the investigation. It's something I would never imagined could be so useful, even more so than the petrification disease, but as always his research is something impressive, and it was wise to make the doctor our new leader.

The only thing missing now is to embed this power into the subject, this should control its aggression and tame it to our will, although it is best to still keep it chained until we can prove our theory. I do worry that it is not enough, it grows in power in each test, and that is a good thing but that just makes it harder to keep in check, we have come this far, and it would be a shame if the subject tried to defy us.

As for the new adjustments, the body seems to be working properly but it does lack coordination, I believe that we are lacking Ergo for it to work, but I am aware that our new shipment will come soon.

“Pinocchio it looks like no one is here anymore but stay on your guard” Gemini was getting worried, this didn’t look good at all.

As they went in deeper, they could see cages that contained mutated carcasses, on their backs they had something strange growing out of them, but it was too deformed, it was hard to pin out what that was exactly.

Suddenly, the ground began to shake, almost making Pinocchio lose his balance. Then he heard people screaming and approaching, so he hid in a corner.

“It didn’t work!”

“Lock the damn door now!”

“This is bad, we are in trouble, run!”

Pinocchio saw two men running away from the direction of the Altar. Once the coast was clear, he made his way in that direction, it was too quiet and he had a bad feeling but he promised that he would help. Instead of a wooden door, The altar now had a huge metal locked door blocking the path, but that was no problem for him, as with his legion arm he destroyed the lock and opened the heavy door, a loud screeching sound was made when the base of the metal door was pushed, sounding like horrible screams.

The altar looked the same as before, almost as if they didn’t even bother to fix the place, even the painting of Andreus was still hanging on the wall, but even more unrecognizable. The only different thing was that there were now chains in the floor, chains that were being used to hold something, chains that were now all broken.

Pinocchio took a deep breath because he had lived this before and he looked up to see what was being locked away inside here.

On the ceiling was a strange creature, a single wing covering its body, but it soon revealed itself, it had the body of a human, but with several arms, it had no face, but it had some very strange small marks over its body. At least Pinocchio thought they were marks.

Until the many eyes opened, staring directly at Pinocchio.

It wasted no time in making its attack, Pinocchio parried it with ease, the creature’s movements were clumsy, as if it was having trouble coordinating its body, but that didn’t mean this was an easy battle, the creature had eyes everywhere, it was impossible to try to attack from behind or to try to surprise it.

At one point the creature started getting desperate, using its wing to fly in the air and launch itself against him, attacks that Pinocchio dodged while looking for an opportunity to strike properly.
