Finally, we get the opportunity to put our Spy Cards worldbuilding in a work. Though there are many questions about such things as "regulation" "how these cards are printed" "who approves a single spy card", and so on, we are here to present a bold new take: this game is based like 60% on obscure roach memory-reading tech that got turned into a card game with absolutely No card-game-related intentions included in the original tech and most of the card vetting is just from the fact that there aren't too many card printers out there and most of them make cards that need to be translated from Roach.

Strictly speaking, as a card game, it is not a terribly good or well-balanced one. It's popular primarily because of a mix of the difficulty involved in getting the data for high-level cards, the fun of seeing the variety of monsters that can be brought to the table, and the incredible amounts of ham and drama that goes into specifically the professional scene.

#we speak #bug fables #bold and new because we think that only maybe three people have even asked questions about the semantics ofc #notable points: professional spy cards is an entirely different thing from competitive spy cards #and the overlap between fanbases means that there is occasionally some REALLY incomprehensible beef about deck composition #also every time that carmina uses astotheles' card in one of her decks she has to pay him royalties #this is because he approached her personally about it. it was an Experience.#the roach tech thing also means that like a decent chunk of high level spy cards players know like. a handful of words in roach #competitive spy cards is generally smaller than professional and involves shit like actual deck composition and like #trying to get ahold of That One OP Card so that you can utterly crush people at the local tournament. actual card geek shit.#professional spy cards is basically wrestling in card game form and does NOT optimize the decks very well #because 99% of the draw of PROFESSIONAL spy cards is that youre gonna watch a whole bunch of people roleplay elaborate storylines #while also playing a game where most professional venues will invest in tech to read card crystals and summon appropriate effects #its a spectacle sport. specifically a spectacle sport where the actual game is mostly framework for Cool Monsters and Interpersonal Drama #carmina is a heel #this might be slightly incoherent but we'll clean it up later maybe. we are taking a break from sketching comms to write rn

I love the way when people are defending the US races like Vegas or Miami, they elevate USA and in conjunction the West to some spotless utopia or perfect heaven where everything is alright and they aren't actually actively sponsoring, endorsing or enabling genocides and wars all over the world and either helping the tirants of those "totalitarian countries" keep their seats or bringing them democracy if they are no longer useful ❤️

Arc V rocks because it leans into the silly spectacle dueling has by making all the characters theater kids

#They took the core every YGO series has “Dueling should be entertaining” and elevated it to “Dueling is entertainment” hope that makes sense #“Why do you have a summoning chant for your ace monster ?” to charm the crowd- obviously #To me- the synchro dimension girlies are the lowest on the theater kid scale but Yugo makes up for it by being a silly joyous soul #And I Know GX did that as well but there was little focus on the actual audience of the duels and what the duelists wanted to convey to the #Even though I swear by GX Duel Academia having several acting courses- the show itself didn't convey that as much as I wish #GX felt more like ? the dues happened around an audience instead of happening FOR an audience. It felt more like a sport than a performance #<- That's why Jun and Edo and Fubuki are the best <3 my spectacle obsessed weirdos

In thoughts mostly unrelated to that - with all the "send in your spearmaster/gourmand/hunter/five pebbles/whatever" type things going around the Rain World fandom, we wonder if anyone'd be interested in, like, submitting their characters into a "your characters will probably die" type event?

We've recently been reminded of the existence of the BrantSteele Hunger Games Simulator, and loading it up with canon characters plus a bunch of OCs sounds like the kind of thing that could easily be fun. The day/night system it has might be interesting for making, like, some kind of Event, too. Scheduled posts and such. Could probably set up a theme for letting people track their favored contestants throughout the... however long it takes.

If there's interest, we'll probably make a "submit your characters" post, if there's not, then there's no need to strike a fuss.

I want the WWE dead for many reasons but it and WCW being the main image people have for professional wrestling and it equating to trash 90s shock tv is just infuriating.

Wrestling is so much more than that and yet to this day that stupid fucking stigma is on it like white on rice. Diverse incredible stories are being told week in and week out !! And yet no one watches or cares and asks “why can’t we see x story” well YOU COULD IF YOU WATCHED WRESTLING!!
