Please watch Spenser. Spenser has everything.
Boston in the 80's!
A long-term established romantic couple who are also best friends who just actually fucking like each other and have fun together!
Hot Boston Townie who offers you baking soda to drink!
Hawk, being Hawk, asserting his superiority and laughing at Spenser smelling like a fire!
Also Hawk, avoiding eye contact and not being able to appropriately modulate his tone or facial expressions because you don't actually have to learn to mask when you're a professional gunman!

Robert B Parker was a detective fiction writer active from 1971 until his death in 2010. (His wife found him dead at his writing desk. He was notorious for being devoted to his career even BEFORE that.)
In those four-and-a-bit decades he wrote dozens of novels. Haven't checked, but I think he actually managed to average more than one per year. Most of them were about this guy named Spenser.
Spenser ("like the poet") is his surname. His first name is never given*. He loves to cook, eat out, and drink. In his backstory we learn that (in no particular order) he competed as a boxer, served in the Korean war, and after that became a cop, but then quit. He works out frequently and consistently. So he's an extremely dangerous opponent in any violent conflict.
His best friend is a Black assassin known only as Hawk. He has an extensive and diverse network of allies and contacts all over the US, whom he often calls upon as combat backup** or subject matter experts.
Now, Leverage fans - Does any of this sound familiar to you?
* — From listening to interviews where Bob Parker talks about his sons, I have formed the unfalsifiable conjecture that Spenser's first name is either Daniel or David. Whichever one isn't his first name is his middle name, allowing me to state with some confidence that his initials are D.D.S.
** — Spenser's style of detecting relies rather heavily on provoking people to try and fight or murder him, so he wisely gets people to watch his back pretty often.

Okay, I'm going to come out and say it: I don't love Spenserian faeries. Why, in a modern novel, do they all have to talk like they're from the Tudor Period? Why are they ruled by a faerie queen who either has no name, a made up name, or is named Titania?
*cough* She's Mab in the mythology. And we have mythology! We have the Maginogi, the Ulster Cycle, the Book of Invasions, and more, that's just what I can list off the top of my head. The fae are not just Tudor-speaking twinks on a binary of good or cruel, ruled by a villainous queen. They had kings, good and bad like any kingdom. They had gods among their kind. And gruff, tough epic heroes that included some badass women. And you chose one book by Spenser and one play by Shakespeare as your chief pillars to do all your faerie worldbuilding around.
*sigh*
