💭 Jewel's first impression of Grimmjow

A presence that was silent until it wasn't. He lunged at his prey with a finality sharpened in his nails. He was difficult for her to follow but a sight to behold nonetheless. It was evident that he was immensely powerful. She found it odd that he didn't just try to slaughter her right away when he saw her.

Jewel maintained a more or less casual stance with him but kept a watchful eye. She wasn't one to let her guard down.

She interpreted a certain undercurrent between them -- a nod of interest in one another's power but without enough snarl to go in for the kill. They circled each other like a couple of curious, observant animals.

In her mind, the silent dance was almost playful. She figures they'll disperse and their interactions will be nothing more than another grain of sand in the wind.

🙃 for a headcanon that’s a bit crack-y. 

Oh man, I have a few LOL I'm sorry in advance I'll just share a couple--

Scenario One: Jewel wanting to eat while in Hueco Mundo and all she has is a spicy noodle cup and a bottle of water, so she asks Grimmjow if he has a way to start a fire. So he hunts down a hollow real quick and sets it on fire with a cero (Idk if that would actually work but it's crack for a reason), which is overkill but amusing and appreciated.

And so they’re taking a break by their ‘campfire’ and Jewel’s eating. Grimm’s kind of curious about this food and comments about how the smell makes his nose run, and Jewel’s nose is dripping from the spice tbh but she’s enjoying her meal, let’s him sate his curiosity with a bite and he complains about how it stings his lips.

Grinning, Jewel says, “Ah, the mighty espada number six, SpicyLips.”

Scenario Two: Grimmjow griping at Jewel over her insanely cold reiatsu and he’s casually walking over whilst his bitching and he slips on fucken ice on the ground around her, falls into her, and sends them both to the ground. A Classic™

And she’s like ‘u know. people don’t usually come on to me This Strong—‘

And he’s just asdf-ing and gathering his bearings because he wasn’t done cOMPLAINING, JEWEL.

We go through so much spicy chili crisp oil at our house that I finally decided to make some of my own. After a ton of research and knowing what I did and didn't like from some of the chili crisp oils we've bought and tried, I went with this @seriouseats recipe: https://www.seriouseats.com/homemade-spicy-chili-crisp It took a while to source all of the ingredients, but Amazon and @themalamarketllc really came through. I figured if I was going to go through all this effort, I might as well make a double batch so we'd have plenty with some to share. Some concessions from the recipe: I had to substitute a purple onion and a sweet onion for the shallots (HEB has been unable to get them for weeks), and I skipped the MSG. I also doubled the peanut oil called for because @kevzb7 likes the spicy oil just as much as the crunchy bits. So. Much. Prep! I wore disposable gloves while de-seeding the chili peppers, and I wore a face mask when grinding them. I still started coughing, though! Holy hell, some of those peppers are hot! 🌶️ It was my first time using a mandoline (ordered specifically for this venture), so I was *very* mindful of the horror stories I'd seen from people who had ended up in the ER after using one. 😬 No injuries to report, thank goodness. Not even from the multiple times I had to dump the hot oil while following the process. 😅 But the result is delicious! There are sweet crispy peanuts, crunchy fried garlic and onion bits, mouth-numbing ground Szechwan pepper, and plenty of heat from the chopped spicy pepper bits! So many flavor layers! After giving it a night for all of the flavors to really marry, I tried it on basmati rice today just to get a sense of it's unadulterated potency. I'm a fan (with a slightly numb tongue)! A little goes a loooooooong way, and I can't wait to try it on a bunch of other things! Disclosure: Someone is going to find a stray star anise in their jar, though.
