The Halloween Hound from Spooky Buddies (2011)

An evil ghost dog who leads the netherworld, turns living beings to stone with his breath, eats puppy souls, is weak to the sun, and has absolutely no good photos of him on the Internet. (Seriously, it took so much searching to find the one I used for this post).

My dad has a tradition of watching Spooky Buddies with our dogs on Halloween. Here are some of the things I hear him exclaim from the other room:

“Leave those puppies alone, Warwick!”

“Jo (dog), I’m telling you, that is one scary hound.”

*talking to his girlfriend* “Nah, Bellatrix (dog) isn’t scared”

*various exclamations of disbelief despite having seen the movie a million times*

*agreeing or laughing at everything B-Dog says*

*pointing out the Deputy bloodhound to our basset hound every time he’s on screen*

“Pip!”

“Ooo, you guys wanna watch Snow Buddies next?”

Warwick the Warlock from Spooky Buddies (2011)

It is times like these that I am so glad I lifted my live-action ban. Everyone, meet Warwick. He’s a warlock from 1937. He wants to achieve world domination. He plans to do this by summoning the Halloween Hound, ruler of the netherworld, which he can only accomplish by literally killing puppies. He can turn people into animals via potions. He has a talking owl sidekick named Hoot. He surfs on his staff like a hoverboard. He is thwarted by having his spellbook swapped out with a bible. He is the first villain to die in the Air Buddies movie canon. I love him.

The tradition of “pumpking” carving is said to have been an ancient Earth festivity performed by peasants to celebrate the kings of the land. Now a commodity of the very wealthy, pumpkings are only grown on Neptune. When the Aurinkos found themselves doing a little finance relocation on said planet what else were they to do but keep up old traditions?
