Mira Lazine at Erin In The Morning:
On Friday, former President Donald Trump appeared at a Moms for Liberty conference in Washington, D.C. where he expressed extremist views on trans people that are wildly divorced from reality. He made numerous remarks that highlight both his record as an anti-trans figurehead and the relationship he has to those orchestrating Project 2025. The conference, featuring discussions between Trump and Moms for Liberty founder Tiffany Justice, included 20 minutes of discussion relating to transgender issues.
It was in this section that Trump made one of the most outlandish claims on transgender issues in recent history: “But uh, the transgender thing is an incredible thing… your kid goes to school & comes home a few days later with an operation the school decides what’s going to happen with your child & you many of these childs [sic] 15 years later say ‘what the hell happened, who did this to me?’”
This statement has no basis in reality—no school in the United States, or anywhere in the world, has authorized gender-affirming surgery on a child without the parent’s consent.
The discussion turned to transgender issues when Tiffany Justice suddenly brought up the topic, initially referencing Elon Musk’s recent interview with Jordan Peterson, in which Musk ranted about the “woke mind virus” supposedly affecting his trans daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson. Justice expressed agreement with Musk’s remarks. Wilson, however, provided detailed rebuttals on her Threads account, pointing out how Musk’s statements were inaccurate and often ignored the truth. No reference was made to her careful rebuttals.
Then, the conversation abruptly shifted to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz enacting the “trans refugee” bill, which guarantees the state as a safe haven for transgender people across the country. Trump briefly responded, saying, “that’s crazy,” before Justice continued, raising concerns about “an explosion in the number of people identifying as transgender” and referring to the “born in the wrong body” claim as “abusive.”
This prompted further discussion, with Trump comparing school boards to “dictatorships” and describing situations where parents are “screaming for the life of their child,” attributing these conflicts to “transgender” and other issues. During the interview, Justice expressed concerns about banning the government from funding transgender surgeries, to which Trump responded casually, “Well, you can do everything. [The] President has such power.”
During the talk, Trump also targeted boxer and Olympic gold medalist Imane Khelif, who has been incorrectly labeled as transgender by right-wing media despite statements from the International Olympic Committee, which allows sports to restrict trans women from participation, confirming that she is cisgender. Trump repeated the false claim by stating that Khelif was “a person who has transitioned” and “transgendered.” He said, “I wouldn’t want to fight this person. But… [she] transitioned and met certain qualifications… So [Italian boxer Angela Carini is] fighting this person that transgendered, it was like she got hit by a horse.”
[...]
Trump continued his anti-trans attacks, calling trans inclusion in sports “very demeaning to women…It’s a very sad thing,” he continued, before shifting the conversation to criticize presidential candidate Kamala Harris for being “totally in favor [of trans people.” Trump then attacked Harris’ climate record and offered to send her a Make America Great Again hat.
Speaking at the far-right extremist “parental rights” group Moms For Liberty’s Joyful Warriors National Summit this past Friday, Donald Trump told numerous lies about trans people, including falsely labeling Imane Khelif a “person who has transitioned” and the bonkers assertion that schools are authorizing gender-confirmation surgery on minors without parental consent.

i'm just so tired of pride nights being diluted thanks to bigots being given a voice. If your organization isn't prepared to fully stand with and protect LGBTQ+ people in the face of adversity then why even have one? If you as a team have stopped to consider how homophobes feel during pride nights and your next step is to make changes to accommodate and make space for them, then you've failed. Until teams and leagues stop siding with the oppressors, their claims of being safe and inclusive continue to be empty

VITD Sims Lookbook: Victor
All right, we've seen Smiler -- time to move onto the group's beloved Whisper, Victor!
First up, a perfect everyday casual outfit for Victor once he ditches his parents and moves in with Smiler and Alice -- look at that nice red waistcoat! :D This Realm of Magic top actually looks something like what you might see if the Victor in the movie took off his tie and his jacket -- yeah, okay, it's more brightly colored, but poor Victor deserves to have a bit of color in his life, damn it. XD
For bedtime, we have some lovely blue pajamas for my boy. I went for a slightly-mismatched look between the solid blue top and the striped pants, but I think it works for him. (Besides, most of my own pajamas are like that.)
For those sort-of-formal party situations (or any situation where Victor might want a nice jacket), I decided Victor had to have this particular Realm of Magic jacket because it has a little silver moth pin on it! :D That is very much in keeping with Victor's aesthetic. Though looking at the pants again, not sold on those thick cuffs -- I think they make poor Victor's feet look even smaller.
And for those times when Victor has to go full formal, here we have him showing off the Authoritative Aristocrat's Suit from History Lover's Sims Blog! (Paired, of course, with a Simmer of the Dawn top hat.) This looked like a good "fancy" outfit for Victor, even if he is "new money" rather than an aristocrat. XD Feels, again, like something he might actually wear in the movie if we ever saw him at his actual wedding, or going to a fancy party.
As for when Victor needs to get athletic -- okay, I know this is one of the teen High School Years sports team outfits, but I really liked it on Victor as it felt like he was throwing on his old "private school" gym kit for working out. XD It just fits him! (Though I guess this does imply that private schools exist in my Valicer In The Dark AU -- maybe as part of the universities? *shrug* I shall have to update my worldbuilding!)
And finally, Victor gets his own comfy sweater to hang out in for those nippy days around Duskwall! Part of me wonders if the undershirt is a bit too casual for Victor, but I really like the sweater itself -- and he's supposed to reject his nouveau riche upbringing and become at least a little bit less of an anxious mess during his time with the Three Pillars, so hell with it. Victor can have proper casual looks. :p

Trudy Ring at The Advocate:
A Utah high school athlete is under police protection after receiving threats because a state school board member shared a picture of the girl on social media and implied she’s transgender. Now the teen’s parents are demanding the board member’s resignation.
Utah State Board of Education member Natalie Cline posted a picture of a Granite School District’s basketball team Tuesday on her public Facebook page with the caption “Girls’ basketball.” One of the players has very short hair and is described by her parents as a tomboy. She is not trans, but the implication from Cline and commenters was that she is and therefore shouldn’t be on the team under Utah law.
“The comment section quickly became filled with people calling out the player, naming her, threatening her and referring to her with vulgar language,” The Salt Lake Tribune reports. “Some identified her school and said they were going to call the principal.” The Tribune and other local media did not identify the player or her school.
Cline took the post down Wednesday and apologized to the student, while still using the anti-trans language for which she’s become known. “She does have a larger build, like her parents,” Cline wrote. “We live in strange times when it is normal to pause and wonder if people are what they say they are because of the push to normalize transgenderism in our society.”
The girl’s parents, Al and Rachel van der Beek, want Cline to resign from the board. “To look at someone’s outer appearance and make an assumption that they’re either playing in the right arena or not, based on how someone looks, I don’t think is appropriate,” Rachel van der Beek told TV station KSL.
The post “was cyberbullying at its finest,” Al van der Beek said. He noted that his daughter “cut her hair short because that’s how she feels comfortable, she wears clothes that are a little baggy, she goes to the gym all the time, so she’s got muscles.”
The student’s school district, located in Salt Lake County, has provided extra security for her, including police protection, due to the harassment she’s received, the Tribune reports.
Cline’s behavior has been condemned by others as well, even by the legislator who sponsored the state’s anti-trans sports law. State Rep. Kera Birkeland, a Republican, commented on Cline’s post by saying it was “in poor taste,” adding, “Do you know if this KID is a boy or girl? This child is a minor being mocked and called out without any facts or proof.” Of course, that assumes it would be OK to mock the girl if she were trans.
The consequences of anti-trans paranoia has led to a cisgender female tomboy basketball player being harassed by far-right transphobe Natalie Cline, who serves on the Utah State Board of Education.
