There was a killer on the loose, and Mercury refused to believe the rumours until her cheerleader roommate was cruelly stabbed to death in front of her eyes. So, without thinking twice, she ran from their room and building and just kept running as far as she could, past plenty of other bewildered students doing the same. Without a care that she was half-dressed from having worked on a personal project, her sole focus right now was to call the police (if they hadn't been aware yet) or at least find somewhere to temporarily hide safely, for the benefit of living until dawn. That, or she might die of hypothermia-- whatever came first. Across campus, screams could be heard and she cringed, knowing that she wasn't the fighting type to save anyone. Mercury would rather save herself than others because she was selfish, secretive, ignorant, jealous and essentially just a bitch. Other girls didn't care about her, so, why would she return the favour? This HAD to be a funny prank, considering Halloween day just struck midnight, minutes ago. She hated horror movies!
Stopping dead in her tracks to catch her breath, she made the decision to head towards the dimly lit sportsplex, thinking it would be large enough to keep her hidden-- even if this redheaded bimbo, would have to hide in the gross locker rooms, or make the scary decision to head straight up to the rooftop. With a rush through the bushes and towards the backdoor, Mercury snuck in with the intention of being quiet-- until she cursed after slipping, caused from a pool of blood on the ground. "Shit!" Immediately faced with someone in a creepy mask, Mercury got up as fast as she could, and ditched her original idea and ran to her left, and up plenty of windy stairwells, towards the rooftop. She couldn't even focus on the blood all over her bare legs or hands or look for whose it was-- Mercury just needed to get out of there. That was, until a door shut itself down a different hallway, and the masked killer changed route and away from her, but she kept running up. At the balcony, she looked around and grabbed her phone from her pocket, tried to call the police but it died the second she called. "Fuck!" Hushedly she cursed again before hearing screaming again. Turning around and below her, was a larger balcony and two people. It was now or never--
"Hey!" Waving for the attention of the other below, Mercury reached an arm out to help, completely uncharacteristically of herself. "Hey, grab my hand!"

A person is in custody after a rock with hate speech and threats was thrown through a window at a northwest Charlotte daycare on Monday, police said.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers along with the FBI took a person into custody and are not searching for anyone else at this time.
Tuesday morning, the suspect was identified as 36-year-old Tyson Lee Corpening, according to CMPD.
Corpening is being held in the Mecklenburg County Detention Center on numerous charges, including attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a firearm by felon, injury to real property, and two counts of ethnic intimidation.
Earlier in the day on Monday, police said the case is believed to be connected to the shooting of a park ranger that happened last month.
PREVIOUS: Park ranger recovers after being shot in north Charlotte, CMPD says
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Monday’s incident happened around 8:40 a.m. at the Marizetta Kerry Child Development Center, which is on Beatties Ford Road near Cindy Lane. Police said the rock had hate speech and various threats toward children.
In a news conference, investigators confirmed they have evidence linking Monday’s case to the shooting of the Mecklenburg County park ranger.
Police told Channel 9 that shooting happened Nov. 27 near the entrance of the Charlotte Friendship Sportsplex, a county park in north Charlotte.
The park is located within walking distance of the daycare. The proximity and evidence found today allowed them to connect the cases, officers said.
The ranger was shot in one of his extremities while locking up for the night, Maj. Brian Foley told Channel 9 last month. He’s expected to recover from his injuries, Foley said.
ALSO READ: 17-year-old killed, 18-year-old hurt in shooting at Charlotte park, CMPD says
The motive behind that shooting was not released.
“The main point I want to bring around today is that it’s critical we get the public’s help on these two incidents close proximity,” Maj. Melanie Peacock said in a news conference on Monday afternoon. “It’s very likely someone in the community might know who’s responsible for this and we need those people to step forward and call us and let us know what they find.”
Investigators are still looking for a suspect in both crimes, and asked anyone with information on who may have committed either act to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Tips can be made anonymously.

Gator and Grebe are a one-of-a-kind sculpture. There are two sculptures in the photo that have a lot of representation for the area where they are located. One of them is of an alligator (left) and an egret (right). These sculptures can be found in Coral Springs Florida near the panther’s ice den and sportsplex right off sample road. They were created by Doug Makesman, the city of Coral Springs purchased them from him to put them in the city. The sculptures are made from sheet metal, scrap steel, and cast iron. The subject of the sculpture has to do with the environment where the city of Coral Springs is located, the everglades. The sculptures show two indigenous animals of Coral Springs, and they are there as a reminder that we share the land with these animals, it’s not just human owned. Much like FGCU, the city enforces protection laws for the alligators and other wildlife in the city because they are beneficial for our ecosystem. The attitude portrayed in these sculptures is appreciation for wildlife. It’s there as a reminder that these animals live here and have a right to live there. The city of Coral Springs has a very positive outlook on wildlife and appreciates it greatly. The sculptures are intended to be full rounded sculptures because you get an opportunity to walk all around the sculptures. They are also required to be on the ground because they are very heavy. The size of the sculptures is almost life size and if not a little bigger, I really don’t think an egret is 5’9. They are also integrated into a green area to make it look like that they are in their natural habitats as you are driving or walking by them.

Property taxes are going up by more than nine percent in Brandon. This news comes after Brandon City Council debated and then passed its 2024 budget on Saturday.
Under the new budget, the tax rate is increasing by 9.4 percent, which is down from a previously cited 10 percent spike. CTV News Winnipeg previously reported that Brandon City Council is grappling with a long-term funding crunch amid aging infrastructure and a history of low tax rates.
Other aspects of Brandon’s 2024 budget include additional police officers, an upgraded water treatment plant, and a new ice plant at the Brandon Community Sportsplex. It also includes new buses, the creation of a doctor recruitment program, and additional paramedics.
