Welcome to #SpringIntoHips #IGyogachallenge • ➰Day8 • #Hanumanasana or #splits • The pose dedicated to the Hindu God Hanuman- the flying monkey with a heart burst open in full devotion • 📝There is NO PRIZE if your hips touch down 📝 STAY engaged in the legs and core- including pelvic floor 📝AVOID crashing down 📝AVOID sliding into the pose if it's new 📝USE BLOCKS 📝Be NICE to your knees BOTH- The strait leg- avoid over strait. The knee that's down- pad it and don't drag it on the mat- you will hurt your knee. 🎥 1️⃣the first image is a fuller expression of the posture as it is on my body including #backbend 2️⃣ardhahanumanasana (half splits) propped with blocks. THIS is where to start on this pose with whatever height of blocks work in the moment. 🚨 Blocks to not imply weakness they provide SPACE and that is what you are looking for. 3️⃣splits with blocks- for the best and continued support in squaring the hips have blocks under each hand under the shoulders. This is the only way to truly learn to square the hips in my opinion. 4️⃣splits without blocks- this takes time. This is the second challenge I've taken part in as host so I feel like I am still learning the ins and outs, how much time and energy I want to make it successful for everyone involved. In Gratitude, ❤️ Love Faern • ➰Day10 Final Day! #SpringIntoHips #IGyogachallenge • #ArdhaBaddhaPadottanasana But I am actually offering #ArdhaBaddhaPaschimotanasana because I have something going on in my feet and it makes standing in this posture not mindful. People see my #flexibility and often make the general assumption that either I've just always been that way OR there's a serious problem they think they need to fix. I have honestly heard I all- my assumed flexibility and my assumed non-strength due to it (something they may not even realize is being implied). I have to tell you something- it's wrong- that assumption is just plain wrong. Even with my hyper-flexibility in some areas and hyper-mobility in my joints- they way this is being looked at & spoken about at needs to change. For example- sure my body is a "backbenders" body. Absolutely, I can not argue that away- it's part of my physical make up- but that does not mean that I didn't have to work with it, develop an internal understanding and figure out how to control my body. I have to tell you, it was hard work and took YEARS AND YEARS to make sense of just that- extra flexible or not. There were times when I felt absolutely helpless in this based on how the flexibility was being addressed and my vulnerability of being a student on a spirit path. Eventually I cleaned that up- and now I'm determined to straiten out the way we look at the more flexible parts of our human mechanics. There is no "too flexible"... There IS loss of control of the flexibility, in my humbled opinion... Similar to a #YogaTutorial I did a while back- if you are interested in that go to #AttemptAvoidGuideToYoga 👀 FEEL FREE to offer any of these as options or as I like to say in class "places to stay for a few months"😺 👉Cover Image: matches final image for the most part EXCEPT toes pointed☺️ 1️⃣seated figure 4- keep feet flexed & lean in with a tall spine 2️⃣from above baby cradle the shin and straiten the lower leg. Stay tall! Don't bend the ankle of the leg you are holding and it is possible that you might feel more balanced with the lower leg bent with the foot tucked in (similar to pigeon) 3️⃣from above- turn foot forward keeping the knee at about 90• and attempt to bring the knee under the arm pit 4️⃣attempt to bring the shoulder under the knee- use the other hand for support of the leg so that you can locate the ground with the other - finding stability 5️⃣see about straitening the leg now- keeping in mind this may not just happen right away and this is ok!
