I will never say Splatoon 3 is a dissapointment, because it is far from that. Sure, there are some weird design choices that I don't really agree with, but it's such an improvement from the previous two overall. however, there's one feature that the developers teased since the very beginning that makes me feel, for lack of a better word. Cheated.

Shortly after the Splatoon 3 announcement trailer went live at the end of Febuary 2021's Nintendo Direct, the official SplatoonJP Twitter account posted various bits of information that weren't brought up during said Direct. One thing that stuck out in my mind was what they said about stages; the SRL said that the Inklings and Octolings would be fighting in the wilderness now. I, personally, was SO flipping excited.

Many, MANY people, however, weren't as pleased as I was upon reading this, predicting that all of the new stages were going to be a complete snoozefest in the aesthetics department, which. Does not make sense to me. Like, at all. Infact, once September of that same year rolled around, everyone breathed a sigh of relief upon spotting that two stages in the city were returning. Flash forward to 2022-23 and we've gotten stages primarily set in a city/town environment. The "fighting out in the wild" idea was SUCH a missed opportunity and, slightly contradicting what I said at the start of this post, I still feel incredibly dissapointed they kinda forgot about this idea.

So...why exactly do *I* think this would've been a great idea?

Getting this one out of the way, it would've added onto the many things that make this game stick out compared to its predecessors.

If the lore of the city is as interesting as it is now, imagine how many more details we could get about the outskirts of town.

...Yeah, that's about it. HOWEVER, here's my counter-argument to the "it would've been boring" take, using one of my favorite games ever, Super Mario Sunshine, as an example. Every single playable location in Super Mario Sunshine takes place on a tropical island setting. Every single area. To those who've never seen or played the game, most would say it sounds kinda boring. Let's take a gander at the areas in question.

Did I mention that, in every single one of these areas, you can spot the other levels in the background?

Splatoon already has something similar, albeit slightly more linear. You can spot some stage geometry in the background of a few stages, as well as every stage having its own unique lore. C'mon, the lord of the lake? It also has a similar idea of taking one general setting and ripping it up into seperate pieces. Every stage is in a city, but each location in the city is very unique. A warehouse, a parking garage, a port, a depot, a garbage dump, a shopping mall, a skatepark, a grocery store, I could go on. So, tell me...why would this idea suddenly be boring if the same was done with a more earthy, wilderness-like setting?

As of writing this post, Splatoon 3 is still getting updates, adding new stages and the like. So far, the only stages we've seen outside a city/town setting are Scorch Gorge, and a currently unnamed desert ruins stage, both of which still having some form of connection to city life.

I'm really hoping we get more stages with the wilderness idea in mind. I cannot express just how much of a missed opportunity this is.

A lot of the model architecture is meant to support the idea that the neural net should have access to all of the code it's modeling. In particular, it should be able to "learn" from the output of the code model.

The "code model" is a model based on a recurrent architecture with attention. That architecture is very popular in AI research, but it doesn't make much sense to my understanding of what these models are really doing, because the "code model" actually doesn't model anything, it just provides the same basic information about the input as any model that does so explicitly. So for this work, they added an "attention" model on top that did a kind of "soft attention" (like the kind that you get in PCFGs) in the direction of "let's learn everything about the data that can be learned from this particular model."

One common use of attention in these kinds of networks is for modeling multiple "readers," each of which (1) will have a different kind of "code model" that models its input but (2) may also be able to model the output of some of the other readers. It's a bit unclear whether this is a special case of what was done above, or it's a different conceptually important thing that's also done in a few GPT2 models.

The code models here also have different levels of "granularity" and represent "objects" at different levels of "resolution," so that the neural net has different "visualizations" (i.e. different things about what it sees) of each model.

Each "level" of "granularity" in the code models is represented by a "code reader," which represents itself by an LSTM or the like. This has the result that (1) it's like a "reader" inside an "attention" loop, with the attention loop looking at different levels of "granularity" in the code models, and (2) each "reader" "reads" its own code model. It may be that the "readers" may be doing some kind of "local reading" – not modeling the output of the whole thing but rather a smaller component – while "writing" the output to its own code model.

Ex-NIGHTWISH Singer ANETTE OLZON Is 'Proud' Of Her Performance On 'Dark Passion Play' Album

Anette Olzon says that she is "proud" of her performance on NIGHTWISH's "Dark Passion Play" album.

Olzon originally joined NIGHTWISH in 2007 and recorded two studio LPs with the band before being dismissed in 2012 in the middle of the group's North American tour. She was replaced by former AFTER FOREVER singer Floor Jansen.

On Saturday (September 26), Olzon took to her Instagram to write: "So I've seen some of you sharing that it's 13 years ago today since the release of Dark Passion Play. Can't believe it's been so many years now but this album is of course very dear to me. It was what made me able to live on my music finally at the age of 36 and it's been my dream since childhood to be a singer full time and the dream came true when I was chosen to sing in NIGHTWISH.

"The recording was 3 weeks for me where me and Tuomas [Holopainen, NIGHTWISH keyboardist/mainman] lived in the forest during Finnish winter time. We recorded songs, we had fun and it was a great time we had. I didn't know the boys that well in that time but the tour that came with the album was massive and I got to see the world. It was both an exciting time but also a stresful time since I had no idea how big the band really was when I joined and I had never been on a long tour so it was heavy job both mentally but also physically.

"I have so many nice memories and the thing with this album was that it was so much loved by the non metal fans too. It was played in the radio here in Sweden and was number one in the children's top list and we won the amazing Echo award with it. So I will always feel so blessed to have been on this album and I am proud of my performance on it. The songs were not written for me and it was challenging many times to record them. But thanks to all of you who have bought it and for all the support we got with it.

This past February, Olzon said that she was "sad in many ways" about her departure from NIGHTWISH, explaining that she and her former bandmates "had a nice thing going on for many years." In an interview with Wayne Noon of "Rat Salad Review", Anette reflected on her time with the band, saying: "I don't wanna talk about how it ended, because every time I say something, their whole fanbase jumps on me, so I have to be very careful with what I say. But I was sad [about the split], because I felt we had kind of a nice thing going on for many years before it started to be a bit difficult between us. And we were also quite different how we wanted to work; I'm a Swede and they're Finns. So I'm sad in many ways, because it was fun — in the fun days. But I'm also very happy that I'm not there because of the touring schedule."

She continued: "It was very stressful for me to be away; I was almost never home. I was away six weeks, then I was home maybe one or two weeks, just unpacked my bags and then I went off for five weeks again. It's not a lifestyle I felt I wanted to continue for more than that. And actually, now I feel that I have a good life with music and a normal job, and I can decide myself what I wanna do and no one tells me what I have to do. So, I'm a free spirit more now than I was at that time."

Olzon also addressed the incessant criticism that was leveled at her for stepping into the shoes of original NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen, whose operatic vocals were far different from Anette's more pop-oriented approach.

"You don't know how people will be, but, of course, I was the one who got all the hate, and it was, of course, very hard for me to handle that situation," she admitted. "If I was the original singer, I wouldn't have all that kind of bad YouTube comments that I have. And they follow me around quite a lot. It has been better now — people have started to stop saying so many bad things. But, like I said, if I say anything in any interview, they twist and turn it. It's kind of sad that we can't be free of speech, so I'm a bit careful with what I say. But I'm happy about the years we had, and it's great that they still continue doing what they do. And if they're happy, I'm happy. And that's how it goes."

Not long after Olzon was fired from NIGHTWISH eight years ago, she claimed that an argument arose between her and NIGHTWISH when she asked for an Australian tour to be postponed during her pregnancy. Holopainen suggested that Jansen should front the band on a temporary basis, but Olzon said no.

Anette explained in a 2014 interview: "I would have been too pregnant to go to Australia, so I wanted to push the dates back, but Tuomas didn't want that. Discussions about a substitute came up, and at first, I was, like, 'Yeah, well, okay.' But when they mentioned Floor, it was an automatic 'no' from me. I didn't think it was a good idea, because I knew what would happen — I knew the fans would love Floor, because she's a metal singer and I'm a pop singer, and I wanted to keep my job."

A year after NIGHTWISH fired Olzon, the band released a statement denying that she was dismissed because of pregnancy or illness. "We discovered her personality didn't fit this work community, and was even detrimental to it," the group said. NIGHTWISH went on to say that Anette was initially receptive to the idea of hiring a temporary replacement if she couldn't "manage everything," but that she later "took back her decision, and the difficulties really started. Fear of losing money and position seemed obvious." The band also insisted that "Anette and her company" were "paid a fifth of everything that was done during her time" with NIGHTWISH.

Since the end of her five-year stint with NIGHTWISH, Olzon released a solo album, 2014's "Shine", and formed THE DARK ELEMENT with former SONATA ARCTICA guitarist Jani Liimatainen. The group's self-titled debut album was released in 2017; a follow-up, "Songs The Night Sings", came out last November.

Olzon and noted progressive metal vocalist Russell Allen (SYMPHONY X, ADRENALINE MOB) released a collaborative album titled "Worlds Apart" in March via Frontiers Music Srl. The project was issued under the moniker ALLEN/OLZON.

Nice tableware. Check. Dinner, tasty and warm. Check. Candles lit, giving a nice glow. Check. Fresh and crisp white shirt to look elegant and handsome. Semi-check, as some of the sauce splattered on him, leaving a lot of little, red dots all over the white material, but it would be almost dark with candles being the only source of light so Steve would never know. Speaking of Steve.

His boyfriend seated at the table, looking with adoration at all the hard work Tony had done to pull off a date night for them in the creature comfort of their shared floor. Unchecked. Said boyfriend was missing.

"Steve, it's ready!" Tony called, dropping his head in shame next second, thinking that he blew the romance factor. Shouting your lover's name while in not a heated, intimate moment wasn't sexy. Or classy. He was going for classy today. Luckily, Steve didn't come, which meant that the evening could still be saved.

"Baby?" that's better. And with that, Tony stepped out from the dim living room and went on for a search, leading steps to the bedroom. "You are not ready yet?!" Tony asked in disbelief, seeing Steve in the exact spot and set of clothes he was two hours ago when Tony had left. On the bed, spread on his stomach and in training clothes.

"Ready for what?" Steve asked, not even turning around, all his attention focused on the phone he was holding in front of his face and tapping on.

"Our date! What was that…?" Tony asked, hearing a meow coming from the phone.

"I am playing Kleptocats. It is a really cute game where you hoard cats and they bring you stuff to fill up your apartment," Steve answered, and while Tony couldn't see it, he heard that the blond was smiling, clearly enjoying the game.

"Klepto--- you mean you send cats to steal things for you?"

"Not steal. They find things and bring to me."

"So stealing."

"Potato, patato."

Tony laughed, considering it a win. "Okay, let's leave semantics aside for a while - dinner is ready, get dressed."

"In a minute."

"WHAT?!" Tony asked, his voice getting a higher pitch. "Are you canceling on me because of a game?!"

"Not canceling. Postponing."

"Sounds like canceling."

"Potato, patato."

"I am gonna throw a potato at your potato head…" Tony muttered angrily to himself.

"Heard that," Steve said calmly, turning his head to look at his boyfriend and grant him with some attention. Immediately, Tony started to hope that his pristine look would make Steve drop the game because he knew he looked good, or maybe even drop-dead gorgeous if someone asked him. Tony brought the formal suit game to a whole different level. There was the slightest, slightest twinkle of adoration in Steve's eyes before he turned back to his game. "You have tomato sauce on your shirt, babe."

Tony grunted and stepped angrily to his closet, searching for a new shirt. "You are not even playing!" he complained, looking from a sideways angle at what Steve was doing, meaning looking at the screen.

"I have to wait 30 seconds before the ad is over."

"Why?"

"To get coins to get more cats."

Tony only huffed. He changed into a clean shirt and walked over to his boyfriend. "When the ad is over can we please go and eat dinner?" he asked, trying to keep his irritation to a minimum.

"Just in a --- just a bit mooore---" Steve drawled, this time actually doing something on the screen, and Tony glanced at it, seeing the cat disappearing and leaving a timer behind. "Okay, done---"

"Great! Let's---"

"--- now I have to repeat it for three more rooms."

"WHAT?!"

"Shhh, Tony, just a sec."

Tony raised up his arms dramatically and plopped on the bed, next to Steve. "I gave you all the seconds you wanted already, and the dinner is getting cold!"

"I know, but can you give me like, 2399 seconds? My cat will come back then."

"HOW MANY---" Tony went to yell, but then he saw it. Steve's shoulders shook. He was hoping Tony won't see it, but he did. He was clearly laughing, trying to keep it covert. "Are you trolling me?" Tony asked, narrowing his eyes, as the situation started to feel oddly familiar. Steve didn't want to show it, but a small twitch of lips gave him away.

"What, I would never, babe."

"Of course, you wouldn't," Tony agreed in a flat voice, sitting more firmly on the bed. "2399 seconds, huh?" he thought out loud. It seemed like plenty of time for what he had in mind. "Well, I guess I need to do something to keep myself occupied until then," he mused out, cracking his knuckles.

"AH!" Steve yelped when two hands slipped underneath him and a shoulder barged at him, flopping him on his back. "Tony, what, NO!" he screamed when his shirt was lifted up showing a flat, muscled stomach and moist lips framed in a goatee pressed to the skin, blowing a loud raspberry on the skin. "BWAHAHAAHAA!!" Steve jumped on the bed, almost tossing his phone away. "TOHOONY NO!!"

"You said how many seconds, baby?" Tony asked in a teasing voice, scratching up and down the smooth sides and letting his goatee scrub across the skin, before blowing more raspberries.

"AHAAHAHAA!!" Steve screamed out, incoherent laughter not letting him form out a proper word. Raspberries were those fun, playful form of tickling they both loved to use against each other, but not necessarily be on the receiving end. Steve knew that with a few precisely measured raspberries at Tony's weak spots, he could make him crumble in seconds, and while Steve was generally more resistant, there was this soft scratch of Tony's facial hair that was driving him absolutely weak.

"Please stop! Tony, please---NO, NOT THERE!!" Steve yelled before laughter took over him again when the damned goatee scratched up his ribs and lips stopped on the bottom rib, blowing an obnoxiously loud and absolutely ticklish raspberry. Tony also knew which spots to attack to render his soldier helpless. "BWAHAHAHAA!!"

Tony also laughed, enjoying his own game. "Aw, you are starting to get red," he cooed affectionately, looking up at Steve's pinkish face, "wonder how long I have to keep this up until this blush travels all the way down here," he said, sliding a single finger down the middle of Steve's stomach, his finger stopping above the small belly button, soon replaced with lips as another devastatingly long raspberry was blown on the spot and the scratch from the goatee just magnified the feeling.

"AAAAHAHAHAHA!!"

Tony kept this up until he got a promise out of Steve that he would leave the game alone and pay some attention to him. What he didn't know, was that by paying attention to him, Steve meant executing his own raspberry flavored revenge, which made Tony quickly regret that he started this in the first place.
