I'm not a drinker by any means, and I'm not saying any of this to upset anyone or judge them (or even you! You do you boo!), but whenever a story mentions something about drinking or having the reader drink, I'm like ".... Nah..... Nah, that's chocolate milk...."

Hey, I totally get that, anon! I don’t feel judged or upset in the least. There are lots of folx who don’t partake in alcoholic bevvies for lots of different reasons, but it’s still so easy to feel like some sort of radical!!! social deviant not drinking when others are happy to imbibe, which I think is rather crappy.

I dig fancy sips—boozy or otherwise—and I’ve always got my ears perked up for new bars and restaurants with spirit-free cocktail menus, because if you’re a bartender worth your salt, you should be able to mix a damn fine drink sans-liquor. Personally, I enjoy spirits and wines, especially those with more arcane distilling processes/interesting history. I’ll likely continue to reference them occasionally in my writing, but I’d be more than happy to tag “alcohol consumption” or similar if you’d like. My parents were addicts, and only one of them survived into sobriety, so I know how triggering or alienating certain mentions can be. Just let me know. 🖤
