Widow's Wail
The storm rages, getting steadily worse as time passes. It’s getting dangerous to even step outside now, the gales threatening to lift one off the ground. The Emissaries stand watch by the Shore; they saved some of you from the tide, but there’s no proof they’re infallible. They are, as they said, only two hands.
Still, the Surveyor is making progress in her endeavor. On her arm, sleeve rolled up, she’s written all the salt-signs you’ve collected in a dark ink that stains and won’t wash away in the rain. She stands in the Plaza and looks over the signs, trying to determine their order, using her years of experience to see meaning in the shapes. Around her, volunteers collect foaming crabs, disgusting shells that never stop eating, reducing everything they consume to a frothy sludge.
She takes them and cracks their shells, foam coating her hands as she uses them to redraw the signs on the brick ground. Despite the rain, the foam persists, bubbling up and clinging to the ground instead of being blown away. The only precaution she’s taken is tying herself to the fountain by her scarf as she works.
The Doctor has stationed himself in the Tavern, finding it to be central to the search. The sign behind the bar finishes forming, and someone steps out excitedly to inform the Surveyor, hoping it’s the last one they need to collect.
Those staying in the House watch the storm through boarded up windows. Curios dutifully attending to the boards and replacing any that are blown down, patching over any windows that suffer from debris thrown at them.
The Curator tries to stay calm in the Archive, surrounded by the ducks and other animals that were brought inside, all asleep. It must be late, animals have proven to have better internal clocks than people. He tries to no avail to drown out the howl of the wind outside, sitting and watching the chandeliers and walls shake from the squall, watching the only home he’s known look so fragile in this moment.
The sound of lightning crashing nearby draws the search group’s attention that way. Seekers run out of the Tavern to find the source of the noise. Down the street, Voltaire Books & Binding has been struck by lightning— the front of the building is collapsing as you watch large trees crash through the front of the store. Shelves and beams and hard exterior pour into the street, set aflame from the strike. You watch Dante stumble out before the worst of it, but he looks back with a sense of urgency as the front door fully caves in. You can tell by the urgency with which he turns: someone else was inside.

WEBKINZ HAMSTER MAZE HOW TO
WEBKINZ HAMSTER MAZE CODE
You also can click on the right middle bullet and pull it to the left if you'd like, either way will work. If it is not, then what you will need to do is click on an open spot and then click on the pic again and redo it.
WEBKINZ HAMSTER MAZE CODE
If it hasn't resized down enough you will know because the scroll bar at the bottom will still be there or not. Info from box:Each Webkinz Hamster comes with a Feature Code that unlocks a world in which you ans your hamster can build exciting 3D mazes, play in them or. Ok, what you want to do is this, so into edit and click on the pic, when you click on the pic, it will bring up a box around the pic with 6 bullets, I guess you would call them!! LOL Anyway, I usually click on the top right bullet and and drag it to the left and down to resize the pic. I actually resized the pic in my quote to you, so you can see how much smaller it is. Although each hamster comes with a name, you can change this name at the naming station. Plushie Mazin' Hamsters are sold at Webkinz retailers.
WEBKINZ HAMSTER MAZE HOW TO
If I had access to this forum, I will gladly do it for you, but unfortunately I don't, so I'll just give you instructions on how to do it, k? Collecting multiple hamsters gives players more design options for their mazes, helps them to make their mazes faster, and allows players to save more maze designs. The Triple Treat was a maze within the 'Speedy Slalom Slopes' in Mazin' Hamsters. Some room themes can only be placed in certain types of rooms (some outdoor items. A theme can be used to decorate an entire room in My House. The reason for it, is it makes the thread really wide and people's words go of to the right and people can't read them unless they scroll over. Themes, or Room Themes, are collections of items which can be bought from the Ganz eStore, WShop or Curio Shop, or can be earned through Trading Cards, the Wish Factory, or special events. Just a head's up, you might want to resize your pic down so it doesn't give you the bar at the bottom of your post. You will have to call ganz to have it manually put into your dock until this is fixed. So on this demo, my dollars are safe, but I'm still open to see what else it has to offer.Kiwi wrote:There's a new Mazin hamster's daily activity! Here are the prizes from my 3 accounts that I got today:Īlso - According to WebkinzInsider the Snowflake's Snowglobe isn't being put into docks. My 7 year old DS is still miserable and sick but he perked up long enough to say he thought it was "awesome" and when I asked him if he would choose a hamster or a webkinz, he wanted the hamster. I think I saw somewhere something about prizes? 5) If you agree to this decision, you will be logged out and your account deleted. I like making them when they have special mazes. Recently more and more players have been unable to access Mazin’ Hamsters. Mazin’ Hamsters can also be dressed, fed and played with like any other Webkinz pet. 4) You will be prompted to confirm your decision. So i apologize for those who do not like my mazin' hamster videos or whatever. Webkinz Mazin Hamsters The Game Webkinz Mazin Hamsters Rooms Since then, players have enjoyed building and exploring mazes, participating in daily activities and winning prizes. I tried both running as the hamster alone and running as the hamster in a ball (you can change the tick on the main page), seeing is easier without the ball but you go much faster with it (time challenges to come maybe?). 2) Click on the Options menu in the top right of the interface. In Hamster Hamlet, players could use their hamster to explore a 3D world and. Create a video showing a Maze you created or something General about Mazin Hamsters. Mazin Hamsters was home to two sections: the Hamster Hamlet and the Mazes. I already had all the requirements so loading wasn't quite as long for me and on the second and third run through loading was really a lot faster. Ganz wants to see what youve been doing with your Mazin Hamster. It's cute the music is not annoying and graphically it's quite good. Since then, players have enjoyed building and exploring mazes, participating in daily activities and winning prizes. I've run through 3 times now just seeing if this is something I want to spend real money on, and I have concluded that without some "more" to it, that no it's not something that would hold my attention long enough to be bothered. by webkinzworld In the summer of 2010 we launched the Mazin’ Hamsters line of plush and section within Webkinz World. I was going to ask if we'd like a little guide but as usual Cloud is on to it - kudos to you!

Monday, May 15 - Aso-Kuju National Park
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Today we left the crazy busy city of Fukuoka behind for a while, and headed inland to the Aso-Kuji National Park. The major attractions here are five volcanic peaks, of which one, Nakadake, is still active. The entire area of the peaks is just a small edge of what is a huge caldera, 25km by 18km, and My Aso, as the peaks are collectively known, is the largest active volcano in Japan, and one of the largest in the world. To get to the park, we first took a Shinkansen down to Kumamoto, where we changed to the first of two local trains.
Most cities/regions in Japan seem to have mascots that appear everywhere, and seem to be very lucrative in selling merchandise. Here in the Kumamoto area it is the Kumamon bear, which was created in 2010 to further tourism. He appears everywhere, including on these barricades at the crater.
Once we arrived at the town of Aso, which is on the floor of the caldera, we had a bit of a wait for our bus up to the park, since they don't seem to have coordinated the timing of trains and buses. The 30 minute bus ride is quite scenic, however, passing through dense forest after leaving views across the wide caldera, studded with rice paddies. At the park there are two stops, one at a visitor center and museum with grassy fields, easy walking and a distant view of the smoking crater. The second stop was originally the start of a tramway to the edge of the crater, but being a volcano, you know that couldn't last, and it was eventually dismantled in 2019 and replaced with a shuttle bus. We chose to hike the 1 km trail up to the rim to work off some of our extensive breakfast, and were rewarded with great views back and close-up looks at the dwarf rhododendrons that blanket the slopes and were in full bloom.
We were lucky to be able to get to the rim of the active crater, since it is often closed because of gasses or other potential problems. It's very deep, and constantly smoking. There are other trails that go out further and higher, but because of all the logistics to get here, we didn't have time for longer hiking. We walked back down to the top station, had a little late lunch, and took the bus back to the visitor center. We only had about 35 minutes to walk around there on the "grassy plain" before the last bus down to the train station. This area was filled with folks strolling, and also a small herd of horses, who seemed undisturbed by all the people. There were several small ponds here - probably from recent heavy rains, and held by the clayey soil, which reminded us of Mancos shale back home.
We caught the last bus, which gave us about 5 minutes before our train. Rather than the two local trains we had taken out from Kumamoto, we were booked on an express back with seat reservations. Imagine our surprise when we found out it was not only a special "theme" train, "Aso boy", but that our seats were in one of three rows in the "panoramic" last car! The gal who had booked our tickets yesterday certainly knew what she was doing.
Like many of the specialty trains, this one was beautifully outfitted with wooden seat backs, tray tables, a little curio cabinet and pictures of the train's mascot, Kuro chan (full name Aso Kuroemon), everywhere. Kuro means "black" in Japanese, and he is quite adorable. Needless to say, we thoroughly enjoyed our ride back, especially since there were only four other people in our section and we could move from seat to seat for great views.
By the time we got back to our hotel after taking another Shinkansen from Kumamoto, it was close to 8PM, so we had picked up some udon with chicken at the Family Mart and sat in the breakfast room with our drinks from our "drink bar" before heading up for another hot spring soak. It was a long day, with a lot of travel time for the amount of time we had at the park, but totally worth it. Lots of greenery, not too many people, and some very scenic train rides.
We got our seat reservations for tomorrow first thing this morning at the station. We have only two trains, but it will take us almost 6 hours to get to Matsue, as there is no direct route. We will stay there for three nights, since there are several nice day trips we can do from there, as well as a castle and impressive garden. Should be fun.

Route Review: Rail Explorers Catskill Division
Launched in 2018, the Rail Explorers Catskill Division River Run starts at the old train station in Phoenicia, NY and runs on track of the former Ulster and Delaware Railroad along the Esopus Creek. Since the Catskill Mountain Railroad ceased tourist operations on this scenic stretch of track in 2016, Rail Explorers has brought new life--and maintenance--to this historic line. I pedalled this route in July of 2018 and some details have changed as described below. Operations are closed for the winter, but will resume on May 18th and bookings are already being taken.
The Site
Nestled in the eastern Catskills, the start of the route is in the yard of the former Phoenicia Train Station, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and houses the Empire State Railway Museum. The yard and sheds are home to a collection of locomotives, coaches and cabooses. Until their lease with Ulster County expired in 2016, the Catskill Mountain Railroad used the station and equipment for tourist rides along the same alignment.
Tumblr media
The Route
Running along the Esopus Creek, the River Run is a leisurely 8-mile (12.9 km) round trip beside campgrounds and country homes. At one point, the tracks cross Route 28 and the riders are treated to protection from traffic with crossing gates and signals originally installed for the railroad.
At the turnaround, riders wait in a seating area while the railbikes are turned around using on-track turntables (shown here in former routes in the Brandywine Valley, Delaware and Saranac Lake, NY).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Given that the Esopus Creek feeds the Ashokan Reservoir, a major element of the NYC water supply, there are strict environmental standards in place along the route. Always innovators, Rail Explorers founders Mary Joy and Alex Catchpoole devised a way to keep the tracks clear of overgrowth without using polluting chemicals. Here is their trailer-mounted mower, which can be towed behind a rail bike.
Tumblr media
The 4 miles (6.4 km) used by Rail Explorers are part of 38 miles (61 km) of line owned by Ulster County, which is part of the greater line that formerly ran from Kingston Point on the Hudson River to Oneonta, NY where it met the Delaware and Hudson Railroad. Originally envisioned as a summertime-only connection to resorts in the Catskill Mountains, it eventually ran year-round carrying both passengers and freight and served branch lines to Hunter and Kaaterskill. The second half of the 20th Century saw the demise of the line, with mail and passenger service ending in 1954 and freight service ending in 1976.
The 2.4 miles (3.9 km) from Kingston Point to the Rondout neighborhood of Kingston, NY are now used by the Trolley Museum of New York. The section from Kingston to Hurley is used for tourist train excursions by the Catskill Mountain Railroad. Beyond Ulster County, the Delaware and Ulster Railroad run tourist trains around Arkville, NY.
Closer to Phoenicia, many bridges and creekside tracks have been washed away by storms and flooding since the closure of the railroad, isolating the section from other operations. Furthermore, exposed to similar spacial politics of several routes described in this blog, the future of the line is in question and  subject to a legal battle over the use of the right-of-way, with Ulster County planning to remove much of the track to create a recreational trail. The section in use by Rail Explorers appears to be safe from this plan, although the future of the tourist trains remains unclear.
The Vehicles
I pedalled this route aboard the steel-framed, cast-iron-wheeled railbikes described in my earlier post on the Rail Explorers Las Vegas Division. However, as noted on the Rail Explorers website, they offer a “new Rail Explorers fleet of rail bikes, now with electric pedal assistance!” I look forward to returning to Phoenicia this year to see the new railbikes. Here is a great shot of a tandem from Saranac Lake on Rail Explorers Instagram account.

Travel Notes
While Phoenicia is typically reached by car, Trailways offers daily buses from New York City through New Paltz, Kingston and on to Oneonta. It is a short walk from the center of the hamlet to the starting point at the station. The completion of the Empire State Trail in connection with the recreational trail planned by Ulster County might offer options for reaching Phoenicia by bicycle in the future.
Phoenicia is a popular tourist destination, perhaps best known for whitewater tubing along the Esopus Creek, and centrally located near many options for hiking, skiing and fly-fishing. Nearby Belleayre Ski Resort offers summertime gondola rides for hiking, mountain biking and sightseeing. Main Street in Phoenicia has a small stretch of shops, pizzerias, bars and restaurants. The nightlife in nearby Woodstock has picked back up in recent years, especially thanks to the Station Bar and Curio, where one can enjoy drinks and live music in a station that used to serve the same line described above.

I didn’t know whom to talk to about this but I like you and you’re funny, so you brought this on yourself. You know how I’m Jeff’s music video we have a glimpse of Pete at what seems like Yoks bar and I’m assuming it’s after the whole Vegas situation and I know in the book Vegas sneaks into major family’s house to see Pete what if he risks it all to go see him at that bar? But just like in the book he doesn’t dare to actually go up to him but Pete sees him anyway and that’s what triggers the rest of the scenes of him miserable in the trailer? Like we know Vegas is gonna lose it which is gonna lead to the big showdown at the end but like what if Pete is a small part of it too? Seeing him living his life again as the main family’s loyal “dog”? Ughhh also I wanna be your slave by Maneskin is their song too
First of all: mwah, anon 💖
Being this awesome and funny is such a heavy curse to bear but I'm being so brave about it 😔
Aaa the angst, the angst! It's all about the angst!
Tumblr media
I honestly don't know what happens in the novel, and I have no idea what's gonna happen in the show or what Vegas’ gonna do, like-- I'm really going into this blind af gbdixbshs and so I'm very curios to find out because ?????
I'm all for Vegas being DESPERATE absolutely down on his knees (metaphorically) because he needs to see Pete again and can't deal with his absence but is also not brave enough to actually walk up to him and tell him because he's a coward and also he thinks Pete is better off without him even though meanwhile Pete is battling a whole ass war against himself in his own mind and doesn't know what to do because he's questioning so many things about himself and his loyalties and also he's in love with his captor and also--
Tumblr media
Yeah, we need this angst, we really do.
Also that song is already on our radio station 📻

So I'm going to tell you what this sounds like: this sounds like Quincy's Tavern. And I love him. So I'll be linking his content here for those who want to check him out because he is the sweetest little barkeep I've ever had the pleasure of watching.
Here we go!

War is tough.
But the night after a battle is even harder.
You weren't a good killer, but you were a good nurse. And there seemed to be a shortage of those these days. You'd seen all kinds of wounds; from severed hands, feet, and even a half-mauled man who somehow survived.
But even nurses need rest.
You clutch your cloak around your shoulders and walk up the hill to the glittering tavern, hoping the man who had directed you here was right. If not, you'd find him and pluck both of his ice-blue eyes out before putting them in a jar to decorate your nightstand.
When you swing the door open, you see the bar is half-full with various different creatures looking your way. "Welcome," you hear someone announce, then you see the barkeep lean over his station, looking at you with soft black eyes and a raised brow. "You look tired; I think I have something that'll help." You take a seat across from him, watching him pull out various jars full of flowers, a teacup, a kettle, and a jar of honey. "What brings you here?"
"The war," you begin, and the man hums, knowing exactly which war you're talking about.
"What's the frontline like?" You look up at him, wondering how he knew you were on the front lines of the battle, but you open your mouth to respond anyways.
"It's hell. But it's what I'm good at."
"I don't doubt it." Hot water is poured into the kettle, and you watch the little flowers bloom in the cup with fascination. "And I know you wouldn't dream of quitting."
"Never." The man laughs, pushing his hair behind his ear and dropping a spoonful of honey in the cup.
"That's a blessing and a curse, then." He slides the cup towards you and nods, sticking the spoon in his mouth and thinking for a moment.
"What's your name?"
"Suguru," he whispers around the spoon. "And yours?"
"Y/n."
"Very pretty name. Confident, too." You smile and blush, taking a sip of the tea and letting the flavors bloom in your mouth before you swallow it. The warmth travels down your stomach, and you hum, appreciating the feeling it gives you.
"This is so good..."
"It should put you to sleep as soon as you arrive home. A good night's rest is definitely in order." You sip at the tea some more, looking around at the different curios lining the walls and the paintings of mythical beings you've only heard about in stories. Perhaps this was everything Satoru promised...
"What made you start all of this?" you ask, finding Suguru's eyes again.
"Well," he begins tossing his towel over his broad shoulder. "When you live forever, there's something to be said for trying to help others. What's your life worth if you don't?" He shrugs, turning back to his shelves and putting things in order. "That's how I know how you feel about being a nurse." You finish your cup of tea, placing it back on the bar, and standing slowly.
"How much do I owe you?"
"It's on the house." Suguru flashes a dimpled smile at you, and you raise a brow.
"Not even a six-pence?"
"Just promise to come back when you need rest. I'll always be here. Maybe next time you can tell me about the things you've seen."
You nod your assent, putting your hood back up and tapping the wooden bar. "Of course. Thank you for your help."
"Anytime. It's what I'm good at." Suguru tosses you a wink, and you leave the tavern feeling so much better than when you entered. There's a lift to your step and a feeling of fullness you haven't experienced in months, which meant you'd definitely be back soon.

Y/N L/N AND THE HALFBLOODS
Percy Jackson X Reader -Y/N L/N met Percy Jackson and everything was now ruined.
CHAPTER 11: Prepare For Trouble And Make It Double
Tumblr media
In a way, it's nice to know there are Greek gods out there, because you have somebody to blame when things go wrong. For instance, when you're walking away from a bus that's just been attacked by monster hags and blown up by lightning, and it's raining on top of everything else, most people might think that's just really bad luck; when you're a half-blood, you understand that some divine force really is trying to mess up your day. Which was actually what's happening. So there we were, Annabeth, Percy, Grover and I, walking through the woods along the New Jersey riverbank, the glow of New York City making the night sky yellow behind us, and the smell of the Hudson reeking in our noses. Percy and I walked side by side with our hand still connected. Grover was shivering and braying, his big goat eyes turned slit-pupiled and full of terror. "Three Kindly Ones. All three at once. I was pretty much in shock myself. The explosion of bus windows still rang in my ears. But Annabeth kept pulling us along, saying: "Come on! The farther away we get, the better. "All our money was back there," Percy reminded her. "Our food and clothes. Everything." "Well, maybe if you hadn't decided to jump into the fight—" "What did you want me to do? Let you guys get killed? I was not going to leave Y/N." "You didn't need to protect me, Percy. I would've been fine." "Sliced like sandwich bread," Grover put in, "but fine." "Shut up, goat boy," I said. Grover brayed mournfully. "Tin cans... a perfectly good bag of tin cans." We sloshed across mushy ground, through nasty twisted trees that smelled like sour laundry. After a few minutes, Annabeth fell into line next to Percy. "Look, I..." Her voice faltered. "I appreciate your coming back for us, okay? That was really brave." "We're a team, right?" She was silent for a few more steps. "It's just that if you died... aside from the fact that it would really suck for you, it would mean the quest was over. This may be my only chance to see the real world." The thunderstorm had finally let up. The city glow faded behind us, leaving us in almost total darkness. Do you want to see?
Yeah that would be nice.
It was as if it was morning, I could see everything clearly. I wandered my head to make sure I could see everything. This is cool. "You okay?" Percy asked. "Yeah," Not really a fan of the current silence I turned to Annabeth. "You haven't left Camp Half-Blood since you were seven?" I asked her. "No... only short field trips. My dad—" "The history professor." "Yeah. It didn't work out for me living at home. I mean, Camp Half-Blood is my home." She was rushing her words out now, as if she were afraid somebody might try to stop her. "At camp you train and train. And that's all cool and everything, but the real world is where the monsters are. That's where you learn whether you're any good or not." If I didn't know better, I could've sworn I heard doubt in her voice. "You're pretty good with that knife," I said. "You think so?" "Yeah maybe you can teach me some tricks. "Anybody who can piggyback-ride a Fury is okay by me." Percy smiled. I couldn't really see, but I thought she might've smiled. "You know," she said, "maybe I should tell you... Something funny back on the but..." Whatever she wanted to say was interrupted by a shrill toot-toot-toot, like the sound of an owl being tortured. "Hey, my reed pipes still work!" Grover cried. "If I could just remember a 'find path' song, we could get out of these woods!" He puffed out a few notes, but the tune still sounded suspiciously like Hilary Duff. Seeing a tree coming up I tried to pull Percy to avoid it but Percy immediately slammed into a tree and got a nice-size knot on his head. I suppressed my laugh by covering my mouth which made Percy glare at me. After tripping and cursing and generally feeling miserable for another mile or so, I started to see light up ahead: the colors of a neon sign. I could smell food. Fried, greasy, excellent food. I realized I hadn't eaten anything unhealthy since I'd arrived at Half-Blood Hill, where we lived on grapes, bread, cheese, and extra-lean-cut nymph-prepared barbecue. This kid needed a double cheeseburger. >We kept walking until I saw a deserted two-lane road through the trees. On the other side was a closed-down gas station, a tattered billboard for a 1990s movie, and one open business, which was the source of the neon light and the good smell. It wasn't a fast-food restaurant like I'd hoped. It was one of those weird roadside curio shops that sell lawn flamingos and wooden Indians and cement grizzly bears and stuff like that. The main building was a long, low warehouse, surrounded by acres of statuary. The neon sign above the gate was impossible for me to read, because if there's anything worse for my dyslexia than regular English, it's red cursive neon English. To me, it looked like: ATNYU MES GDERAN GOMEN MEPROUIM. "What the heck does that say?" I asked. "I don't know," Annabeth said. She loved reading so much, I'd forgotten she was dyslexic, too. Grover translated: "Aunty Em's Garden Gnome Emporium." Flanking the entrance, as advertised, were two cement garden gnomes, ugly bearded little runts, smiling and waving, as if they were about to get their picture taken. I crossed the street, following the smell of the hamburgers. "Hey..." Grover warned. "The lights are on inside," Annabeth said. "Maybe it's open." "Snack bar," I said wistfully. "Snack bar," Percy agreed. "Snack bar," Annabeth joined. "Are you three crazy?" Grover said. "This place is weird." We ignored him. The front lot was a forest of statues: cement animals, cement children, even a cement satyr playing the pipes, which gave Grover the creeps. "Bla-ha-ha!" he bleated. "Looks like my Uncle Ferdinand!" We stopped at the warehouse door. "Don't knock," Grover pleaded. "I smell monsters." I turned to look at my knife. It had a light glow emitting from it. Probably because it was sheathed. "I think there's monsters." I was now reluctant and sided with Grover. "Grover's nose is clogged up from the Furies," Annabeth told him. "All I smell is burgers. Aren't you hungry?" "Meat!" he said scornfully. "I'm a vegetarian." "You eat cheese enchiladas and aluminum cans," Percy reminded him.. "Those are vegetables. Come on. Let's leave. These statues are... looking at me."
"Percy, I don't think---"
"It'll be fine." Percy took my hand and went in. Be careful and don't look. Then the door creaked open, and standing in front of us was a tall Middle Eastern woman—at least, I assumed she was Middle Eastern, because she wore a long black gown that covered everything but her hands, and her head was completely veiled. Her eyes glinted behind a curtain of black gauze, but that was about all I could make out. Her coffee-colored hands looked old, but well-manicured and elegant, so I imagined she was a grandmother who had once been a beautiful lady. >Her accent sounded vaguely Middle Eastern, too. She said, "Children, it is too late to be out all alone. Where are your parents?" "They're... um..." Annabeth started to say. "We're orphans," I said. "Orphans?" the woman said. The word sounded alien in her mouth. "But, my dears! Surely not!" "We got separated from our caravan," Percy said. "Our circus caravan. The ringmaster told us to meet him at the gas station if we got lost, but he may have forgotten, or maybe he meant a different gas station. Anyway, we're lost. Is that food I smell?" "Oh, my dears," the woman said. "You must come in, poor children. I am Aunty Em. Go straight through to the back of the warehouse, please. There is a dining area. We thanked her and went inside. Annabeth muttered to Percy, "Circus caravan?" "Always have a strategy, right?" "Your head is full of kelp." The warehouse was filled with more statues—people in all different poses, wearing all different outfits and with different expressions on their faces. I was thinking you'd have to have a pretty huge garden to fit even one of these statues, because they were all life-size. I was anxious so I tighten my grip on Percy.  It's stupid for walking into a strange lady's shop like that just because we were hungry. For a child of Athena, Annabeth sure isn't making wise decisions. I mean yeah I agree, you've never smelled Aunty Em's burgers. The aroma was like laughing gas in the dentist's chair—it made everything else go away.  But Grover's nervous whimpers, and the way the statues' eyes seemed to follow me, to add the fact that Aunty Em had locked the door behind us. Made me more cautious. Sure enough, there it was at the back of the warehouse, a fast-food counter with a grill, a soda fountain, a pretzel heater, and a nacho cheese dispenser. Everything you could want, plus a few steel picnic tables out front. "Please, sit down," Aunty Em said "Awesome," Percy said. "Um," Grover said reluctantly, "we don't have any money, ma'am." Aunty Em said, "No, no, children. No money. This is a special case, yes? It is my treat, for such nice orphans." "Thank you, ma'am," Annabeth said. Aunty Em stiffened, as if Annabeth had done something wrong, but then the old woman relaxed just as quickly, I had to turn to Annabeth to check if there was something wrong with her.. Quite all right, Annabeth," she said. "You have such beautiful gray eyes, child."  I wonder how she knew Annabeth's name, even though we had never introduced ourselves. "Percy, I want to leave..." I whispered. "Just a few bites Y/N. Don't worry." He gave me a reassuring pat. Our hostess disappeared behind the snack counter and started cooking. Before we knew it, she'd brought us plastic trays heaped with double cheeseburgers, vanilla shakes, and XXL servings of French fries. I wasn't gulfing down my food like Percy was.  Grover picked at the fries, and eyed the tray's waxed paper liner as if he might go for that, but he still looked too nervous to eat. Annabeth slurped her shake. "What's that hissing noise?" he asked. I listened, but didn't hear anything. Annabeth shook her head. "Hissing?" Aunty Em asked. "Perhaps you hear the deep-fryer oil. You have keen ears, Grover." "I take vitamins. For my ears." "That's admirable," she said. "But please, relax." I don't like it here. I'm scared. Be wary of all things. Aunty Em ate nothing. She hadn't taken off her headdress, even to cook, and now she sat forward and interlaced her fingers and watched us eat. It was a little unsettling, having someone stare at me when I couldn't see her face, and I figured the least I could do was try to make small talk with our hostess. "So, you sell gnomes," I said, trying to sound interested. "Oh, yes," Aunty Em said. "And animals. And people. Anything for the garden. Custom orders. Statuary is very popular, you know." "A lot of business on this road?" "Not so much, no. Since the highway was built... most cars, they do not go this way now. I must cherish every customer I get. My neck tingled, as if somebody else was looking at me. I turned, but it was just a statue of a young girl holding an Easter basket. The detail was incredible, much better than you see in most garden statues. But something was wrong with her face. It looked as if she were startled, or even terrified."Ah," Aunty Em said sadly. "You notice some of my creations do not turn out well. They are marred. They do not sell. The face is the hardest to get right. Always the face." "You make these statues yourself?" Percy asked. "Oh, yes. Once upon a time, I had two sisters to help me in the business, but they have passed on, and Aunty Em is alone. I have only my statues. This is why I make them, you see. They are my company." The sadness in her voice sounded so deep and so real that I couldn't help feeling sorry for her. Annabeth had stopped eating. She sat forward and said, "Two sisters?" "It's a terrible story," Aunty Em said. "Not one for children, really. You see, Annabeth, a bad woman was jealous of me, long ago, when I was young. I had a... a boyfriend, you know, and this bad woman was determined to break us apart. She caused a terrible accident. My sisters stayed by me. They shared my bad fortune as long as they could, but eventually they passed on. They faded away. I alone have survived, but at a price. Such a price." Annabeth gave me a look of worry. I knew she realized something. "Percy?" I shook him to get his attention. "Maybe we should go. I mean, the ringmaster will be waiting." Grover was eating the waxed paper off the tray now, but if Aunty Em found that strange, she didn't say anything. "Such beautiful gray eyes," Aunty Em told Annabeth again. "My, yes, it has been a long time since I've seen gray eyes like those." She reached out as if to stroke Annabeth's cheek, but Annabeth stood up abruptly. "We really should go." "Yes!" Grover swallowed his waxed paper and stood up. "The ringmaster is waiting! Right!" "Please, dears," Aunty Em pleaded. "I so rarely get to be with children. Before you go, won't you at least sit for a pose?" "A pose?" Annabeth asked warily. "A photograph. I will use it to model a new statue set. Children are so popular, you see. Everyone loves children." Annabeth shifted her weight from foot to foot. "I don't think we can, ma'am. Come on, Percy—" "Sure we can," Percy said. "It's just a photo, Annabeth. What's the harm?" "Percy, I don't want to..."  "It's just a photo guys." "Indeed it is just a photo Y/N," the woman purred. "No harm." I could tell Annabeth didn't like it as well, but she allowed Aunty Em to lead us back out the front door, into the garden of statues. Aunty Em directed us to a park bench next to the stone satyr. "Now," she said, "I'll just position you correctly. The young girls in the middle, I think, and the two young gentlemen on either side." "Not much light for a photo," I remarked. But joke's on her I could see quite clearly. Don't look. "Oh, enough," Aunty Em said. "Enough for us to see each other, yes?" "Where's your camera?" Grover asked. Aunty Em stepped back, as if to admire the shot. "Now, the face is the most difficult. Can you smile for me please, everyone? A large smile?" Grover glanced at the cement satyr next to him, and mumbled, "That sure does look like Uncle Ferdinand." "Grover," Aunty Em chastised, "look this way, dear." She still had no camera in her hands. "Percy—" Annabeth said. "I will just be a moment," Aunty Em said. "You know, I can't see you very well in this cursed veil...." "Percy, something's wrong," I insisted. "Wrong?" Aunty Em said, reaching up to undo the wrap around her head. "Not at all, dear. I have such noble company tonight. What could be wrong?" "That is Uncle Ferdinand!" Grover gasped. DON'T LOOK. Annabeth turned to my direction, "Look away from her!" she then shouted. She whipped her Yankees cap onto her head and vanished. Her invisible hands pushed Grover and and I pulled Percy with me. We were on the ground, looking at Aunt Em's sandaled feet. I could hear Grover scrambling off in one direction, Annabeth in another. "Percy, we have to move!" I shook him. But he was too dazed to move. Then I heard a strange, rasping sound above me. My eyes rose to Aunty Em's hands, which had turned gnarled and warty, with sharp bronze talons for fingernails. Percy was about to look higher then her hands and I instinctively covered his eyes. "Don't look!" More rasping—the sound of tiny snakes, right above me, from... from about where Aunty Em's head would be. "Run!" Grover bleated. I heard him racing across the gravel, yelling, "Maia!" to kick-start his flying sneakers. "Percy we have to move please!" "Such a pity to destroy a handsome young face," she said soothingly. "Stay with me, Percy. All you have to do is look up." "Percy please!" Percy pushed my hand away and looked to one side. I turned to look as well and saw one of those glass spheres people put in gardens— a gazing ball. I could see Aunty Em's dark reflection in the orange glass; her headdress was gone, revealing her face as a shimmering pale circle. Her hair was moving, writhing like serpents. Aunty Em. Aunty "M." How did Medusa die in the myth? But I couldn't think. Something told me that in the myth Medusa had been asleep when she was attacked by my namesake, Perseus. She wasn't anywhere near asleep now. If she wanted, she could take those talons right now and rake open my face. "The Gray-Eyed One did this to me," Medusa said, and she didn't sound anything like a monster. Her voice invited me to look up, to sympathize with a poor old grandmother. "Annabeth's mother, the cursed Athena, turned me from a beautiful woman into this." "Don't listen to her!" Annabeth's voice shouted, somewhere in the statuary. "Y/N carry Percy!" "Silence!" Medusa snarled. Then her voice modulated back to a comforting purr. "You see why I must destroy the girl, Percy. She is my enemy's daughter. I shall crush her statue to dust. But you, dear Percy, you need not suffer. We won't even hurt, Y/N." I swung Percy's arm around my shoulder. But he was too heavy.  "No," he muttered trying to make his legs move... "Do you really want to help the gods?" Medusa asked. "Do you understand what awaits you on this foolish quest? What will happen if you reach the Underworld? Do not be a pawn of the Olympians, my dear. You would be better off as a statue. Less pain. Less pain." "Y/N!" Behind me, I heard a buzzing sound, like a two-hundred-pound hummingbird in a nosedive. Grover yelled, "Duck!" I turned, and there he was in the night sky, flying in from twelve o'clock with his winged shoes fluttering, Grover, holding a tree branch the size of a baseball bat. His eyes were shut tight, his head twitched from side to side. He was navigating by ears and nose alone. "Duck!" he yelled again. "I'll get her!" I tackled Percy to the other side. Thwack! Then Medusa roared with rage. "You miserable satyr," she snarled. "I'll add you to my collection!" "That was for Uncle Ferdinand!" Grover yelled back. Pulling along an out of a dazed Percy we scrambled away and hid in the statuary while Grover swooped down for another pass. Ker-whack! "Arrgh!" Medusa yelled, her snake-hair hissing and spitting. Right next to me, Annabeth's voice said, "Y/N! Percy!" Percy jumped so high his feet nearly cleared a garden gnome. "Jeez! Don't do that!" Annabeth took off her Yankees cap and became visible. 'You have to cut her head off." "What? Are you crazy? Let's get out of here." "Medusa is a menace. She's evil. I'd kill her myself, but..." Annabeth swallowed, as if she were about to make a difficult admission. "But you've got the better weapon. Besides, I'd never get close to her. She'd slice me to bits because of my mother. You—you've got a chance." "What? I can't—" "Look, do you want her turning more innocent people into statues?" She pointed to a pair of statue lovers, a man and a woman with their arms around each other, turned to stone by the monster. Annabeth grabbed a green gazing ball from a nearby pedestal. "A polished shield would be better." She studied the sphere critically. "The convexity will cause some distortion. The reflection's size should be off by a factor of—" "Would you speak English?" "I am!" She tossed him the glass ball. "Just look at her in the glass. Never look at her directly." "Hey, guys!" Grover yelled somewhere above us. "I think she's unconscious!" "Roooaaarrr!" "Maybe not," Grover corrected. He went in for another pass with the tree branch. "Hurry," Annabeth told him. "Grover's got a great nose, but he'll eventually crash." Percy took out his pen and uncapped it. The bronze blade of Riptide showed. He turned to me and gave the glass then offered a hand. "Percy you can't be seriously bring her along!?" "I'll go with him." Taking his hand, we followed the hissing and spitting sounds of Medusa's hair. I raised the glass so I could guide us. I kept my eyes locked on the gazing ball so I would only glimpse Medusa's reflection, not the real thing. Then, in the green tinted glass, I saw her. Grover was coming in for another turn at bat, but this time he flew a little too low. Medusa grabbed the stick and pulled him off course. He tumbled through the air and crashed into the arms of a stone grizzly bear with a painful "Ummphh!" Medusa was about to lunge at him when I yelled, "Hey!" We advanced on her. I had let go of Percy's hand to bring out my knife. So if she charged, I could help Percy. But she let us approach—twenty feet, ten feet. I could see the reflection of her face now. Surely it wasn't really that ugly. The green swirls of the gazing ball must be distorting it, making it look worse. "You wouldn't harm an old woman, Percy," she crooned. "I know you wouldn't." I could tell he hesitated. From the cement grizzly, Grover moaned, "Percy, don't listen to her!" Medusa cackled. "Too late." She lunged at him with her talons. I ran and raised my knife to block her talons, Percy then swung his sword, then we heard a sickening shlock!, then a hiss like wind rushing out of a cavern—the sound of a monster disintegrating. Something fell to the ground next to my foot. It took all my willpower not to look. I could feel warm ooze soaking into my sock, little dying snake heads tugging at my shoelaces. "Oh, yuck," Percy said. His eyes were still tightly closed, but I guess he could hear the thing gurgling and steaming. "Mega-yuck." Annabeth came up next to us, her eyes fixed on the sky. She was holding Medusa's black veil. She said, "Don't move." >Very, very carefully, without looking down, she knelt and draped the monster's head in black cloth, then picked it up. It was still dripping green juice. "Are you okay?" Percy asked me, his voice trembling. "Yeah," I decided. "Why didn't... why didn't the head evaporate?" "Once you sever it, it becomes a spoil of war," she said. "Same as your minotaur horn. But don't unwrap the head. It can still petrify you." Grover moaned as he climbed down from the grizzly statue. He had a big welt on his forehead. His green rasta cap hung from one of his little goat horns, and his fake feet had been knocked off his hooves. The magic sneakers were flying aimlessly around his head. "The Red Baron," Percy said. "Good job, man." He managed a bashful grin. "That really was not fun, though. Well, the hitting-her-with-a-stick part, that was fun. But crashing into a concrete bear? Not fun." He snatched his shoes out of the air. "I didn't know Grover got Luke's shoes."  Percy recapped his sword. "I can't fly." He shrugged.  Together, the four of us stumbled back to the warehouse We found some old plastic grocery bags behind the snack counter and double-wrapped Medusa's head. We plopped it on the table where we'd eaten dinner and sat around it, too exhausted to speak. Finally Percy said, "So we have Athena to thank for this monster?" Annabeth flashed me an irritated look. "Your dad, actually. Don't you remember? Medusa was Poseidon's girlfriend. They decided to meet in my mother's temple. That's why Athena turned her into a monster. Medusa and her two sisters who had helped her get into the temple, they became the three gorgons. That's why Medusa wanted to slice me up, but she wanted to preserve you as a nice statue. She's still sweet on your dad. You probably reminded her of him." "Oh, so now it's my fault we met Medusa." Annabeth straightened. In a bad imitation of my voice, she said: "'It's just a photo, Annabeth. What's the harm?'" "Forget it," I said. "You're impossible." "You're insufferable." "You're—" "You're both loud and stupid." I growled. "Yeah!" Grover interrupted. "You two are giving me a migraine, and satyrs don't even get migraines. What are we going to do with the head?" I stared at the thing. One little snake was hanging out of a hole in the plastic. The words printed on the side of the bag said: WE APPRECIATE YOUR BUSINESS! I was angry, not just with Annabeth or her mom, but with all the gods for this whole quest, for getting us blown off the road and in two major fights the very first day out from camp. At this rate, we'd never make it to L.A. alive, much less before the summer solstice. What had Medusa said? Do not be a pawn of the Olympians, my dear. You would be better off as a statue. Percy and I shared a look. We got up. "I'll be back." "Percy, Y/N," Annabeth called after me. "What are you—" We searched the back of the warehouse until I found Medusa's office. Her account book showed her six most recent sales, all shipments to the Underworld to decorate Hades and Persephone's garden. According to one freight bill, the Underworld's billing address was DOA Recording Studios, West Hollywood, California. I folded up the bill and stuffed it in my pocket. In the cash register I found twenty dollars, a few golden drachmas, and some packing slips for Hermes Overnight Express, each with a little leather bag attached for coins.  "Found one." Percy called. We went back to the picnic table, packed up Medusa's head, and filled out a delivery slip: The Gods >Mount Olympus 600th Floor, >Empire State Building New York, NY With best wishes, PERCY JACKSON <3 Y/N L/N "They're not going to like that," Grover warned. "They'll think you're impertinent." I poured some golden drachmas in the pouch. As soon as I closed it, there was a sound like a cash register. The package floated off the table and disappeared with a pop! "I am impertinent," Percy said. I looked at Annabeth, daring her to criticize. She didn't. She seemed resigned to the fact that we had a major talent for ticking off the gods. "Great, well Fred and George," she muttered. "We need a new plan."

It's high time for an updated view of the neighbourhood as I've added a few lots since the last time a few rounds ago.
There will still be a bit more expansion in Round 11, as I have plans to build a cemetery (now that we have need of one 😢) on the road leading off to the left as well as another town-owned rental lot - provided there are sufficient town funds available - and I will of course be adding a University.
Anyway, let's have a round summary (under the cut)!

Best host bar in korea
The most essential element of constructing your own home bar would be the refrigeration, so make positive that you have all of the units ready Prior to you start constructing your house clubhouse. Refrigeration, piping for that sink, plus the drain for the sink are elements that must be regarded as 1st, along with placement. Ought to you desire to possess your taps ınside the front in the bar, the bar refrigerator will by necessity need to have to be portion of the design from the bartender. Other appliances, for example the sink, in the event you desire to possess a single, plus the ice maker will require water lines to and from.
Household bars are typically the center of activity in a house. They're the comfortable and most inviting place inside the house for entertaining company. Even tiny events for shut friends could be hosted around a house bar. Typically, these home bars are located inside a separate room or perhaps a basement, which is far away through the kitchen. Hence, retrieving the things for the bar from your cooking area refrigerator is a tedious job. Obtaining a tiny club fridge can be a great add-on for your 호빠 dwelling clubhouse because it facilitates straightforward access and storage of drinks. Nonetheless, you need to have to contemplate a few points while picking a bartender refrigerator. Provided below are some suggestions for choosing a club refrigerator.
You may go for the conventional bottle coolers or back again bar refrigerators but they do not do justice like a beer cooler. They both have adjustable wire shelves which can be adjusted according to need. Larger establishments may even go for possibilities like walk in freezers, stroll in freezer displays, display and storage cabinets, and several other coolers that are built using the particular goal of attracting consumers to it.
In order to serve your guests finest, it is a good idea to possess not simply a refrigerator and also a wine chiller, but also have room for chilled mixers and an ice maker. These can match simply right into a wine chiller or you may combine all elements in one significant bar refrigerator conversion. By picking a sizable fridge with an ice maker built-in, it is possible to suitably transform it right into a refrigerator having a bar refrigerator conversion kit inside a matter of a few hours, and be capable of chill wine, beer, mixers, and have prepared created ice accessible all in a single. The only issue with this solution to your dwelling bartender is placement in the bigger unit. It will take up plenty of room, without a doubt, but may also make for a hassle-free finish piece for your house drink station. If you simply hang a large painting or spot a cabinet with some curios or a large bookshelf around the end in the modified refrigerator, it is possible to add some nice decor to your drink station too.
Even though, most club refrigerators arrive with basic attributes required for efficient bar tending, it would not harm to possess some further helpful functions. These contain an ice maker as well as a backup beer cooler. Bartender refrigerator with ice maker can be an excellent utility in the event you are more into cocktails. An ice crusher might be an added benefit. If you usually finish up buying a lot more beer than necessary, then a back again beer cooler can arrive in handy. Constantly make certain that your drink station refrigerator is in sync with other home drink station furnishings.

HUNTSVILLE CHEAT SHEET: Dawn’s guide to living local
Known as “Rocket City” for the integral role it played in helping to launch the Space Race in the mid-20th century, Huntsville, Alabama, has been attracting the top minds in space and rocket science for decades. The small—but rapidly growing—city in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains is home to (and possibly best known for) NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, and Space Camp. However, according to The Scout Guide Huntsville Editor Dawn Pumpelly, there is plenty to stimulate both the right and left side of the brain in her city, which is why she’s so proud to call Huntsville home. Whether you are visiting the city for the first time, are a new-comer, or are sharing local with some guests, here she provides an itinerary for a crowd-pleasing family trip that checks every box: educational, inspiring, and full of hidden gems.
Tumblr media
How to Do Huntsville’s Rocket Science Scene Right: “The very first thing you have to do when you come to Huntsville is visit the U.S. Space & Rocket Center,” says Dawn. “The Space industry is what put Huntsville on the map, and USSRC shares that history.”
In the park surrounding the building, you can wander among 27 missiles and rockets. Inside, visit one of the largest collections of rockets and space memorabilia on display anywhere in the world and enjoy the new Intuitive Planetarium, an 8K Digital Planetarium and Digital Dome Experience - the only one of its kind in the Southeast. Dawn’s family loves the simulators, especially the Space Shot. This simulates a rocket launch, moving 140 feet straight up into the air in just two and a half seconds. “You get a great view of the entire area—if you can keep your eyes open,” says Dawn.
Tumblr media
Space Camp is another big draw for visitors to Huntsville. However, according to Dawn, not many people know that Space Camp for families is an option. That means all of you can shack up in the Camp’s famous pod-like habitats, just like what you would live in on Mars. During camp, you and your family will launch on a simulated mission to the International Space Station, train like astronauts, and build your own rocket. There’s also the opportunity to have lunch with a real astronaut (pro tip: Dawn recommends indulging in the astronaut ice cream).

How to Make the Most of Huntsville’s Music and Arts Scene: When you’ve had your fill of space and rocket science, Dawn recommends visiting her favorite hidden gem in Huntsville to listen and let loose with some live music, Tangled String Studios (2211 Seminole Drive). This acoustic guitar and mandolin shop is run by a former NASA engineer. If you’re lucky enough to be in town during one of the studio’s concerts, don’t miss it. “Because the shop makes instruments for some of the most well-known performing artists in Nashville, they are able to bring in a rotating lineup of world-class talent to play intimate shows in the Live Room,” says Dawn. The Live Room only seats about 100 people, so the experience is up close and personal, and the acoustics are fantastic. Make sure to bring your own wine and snacks to round out the evening.
Incidentally, Dawn’s favorite local snack can be found just two doors down from Tangled String Studios, at Pizzelle’s Confections (2211 Seminole Drive, #4A). Owned by two sisters, this shop sells handmade artisan chocolates and truffles (Dawn’s favorite truffle is “nutty by nature”), homemade candy bars, and custom cakes. For the perfect accompaniment to your truffles, pick up a bottle of red wine at Church Street Wine Shop (501 Church Street). While you’re there, Dawn recommends ordering some tapas and enjoying a wine tasting. If you prefer tea to wine, pop into local favorite Piper and Leaf Artisan Tea Co. (2211 Seminole Drive Southwest) for a soothing cup of tea after a show—they’re open until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Tumblr media
When Dawn has out-of-town visitors, she always takes them to Lowe Mill (2211 Seminole Drive), the largest privately owned art space in the country. Housed in a 171,1000 square-foot former mill that a private investor purchased and transformed into studios for local artists, Lowe Mill is open to the public Wednesday through Saturday. On those days, visitors can walk (download our walking tour here) through the 250 studio spaces, chat with artists and makers, and purchase art and wares. “They have everything from stained glass art to cigar box guitars, plus a few little food spots and live music on the dock on Friday nights in the spring and fall,” says Dawn. “It’s really a treasure.” Be sure to visit Vertical House Records while you’re there, one of Dawn’s favorites. Download and listen to a recent Vertical House playlist here.
Tumblr media
Where to Dine: For breakfast, you won’t regret driving a few minutes outside of town to get a cinnamon roll at Hamley Bake Shoppe (12023 Highway 231 431 North, Meridianville, Alabama). “Order a pan in advance—it’s the perfect local gift for a hostess,” says Dawn. Dawn recommends treating yourself to a traditional Southern lunch at Lyn’s Gracious Goodness (2306 Whitesburg Drive). This mother-daughter-run lunch spot and catering company has a must-try chicken salad, delicious deviled eggs, and mint sweet tea worth splurging on. “Lyn and her daughter LeeLee are the perfect Southern ladies,” says Dawn. “If you pop in, be sure to tell them I say hey!” Like LeeLee’s food? Check out her very own signature strawberry and make it yourself!
Tumblr media
For a casual, intimate lunch or dinner experience, Dawn recommends Domaine South (103 North Side Square) where the motto is “life should be delicious.” Come as you are and expect fantastic wine and chef prepared sandwiches, entrees, charcuterie boards and desserts. Dawn recommends that you call for a reservation.
Tumblr media
Church Street Purveyor (201 Jefferson Street North) is the place to go for a drink and stay for supper. Every detail at this place sets the ambience, from a cocktail menu presented in a vintage book to the stained glass windows. Dawn recommends the tuna tacos (order them in lettuce wraps for a healthier option, she says), drunken guacamole, and the “Rosie the Riveter” seasonal cocktail, made with sparkling wine.
Tumblr media
Where to Shop: After all that space and art exploration, a little retail therapy is in order. Dawn recommends a stroll along Clinton Avenue in downtown Huntsville for some browsing. Elitaire Boutique (114 Clinton Avenue East) has a wonderful collection of women’s styles with the option to call ahead for an appointment with personal stylist and owner, Kayla Adams. Check out Elitaire’s Lookbook here.
Tumblr media
And Dawn says a Clinton Avenue shopping experience can’t be complete without a visit to Roosevelt & Co. (114 Clinton Ave. Suite 102), which offers the best selection and styles in men’s clothing in town. Click here for Roosevelt’s tailored clothing tips.
Tumblr media
If interiors are more your thing, then wander over to Brooks and Collier (813 Meridian Street), Golden Griffin (104 Longwood Drive Southeast), and The Topiary Tree (1801 University Drive Northwest). “Between these three spots, all within a few miles of each other, I would be shocked if there was something on your wish list you couldn’t find,” says Dawn.
Tumblr media
Last but not least, Dawn says the kids (and husband) will enjoy a trip to MidCity (5901 University Drive) which is currently under construction as one of the country’s 12 largest real estate developments. Currently, it features Top Golf, REI, Highpoint Climbing and Fitness, Dave and Busters with more coming soon.
Where to Stay: The Westin Huntsville (6800 Governors West Northwest) is located very close to the Space & Rocket Center at the Bridge Street Town Centre, an open-air mall with restaurants, major retailers, and a carousel. The AC Hotel Downtown (435 Williams Ave SW) is adjacent to Big Spring International Park (200 Church Street) and many of the shops and restaurants Dawn recommends. And while it’ll be a while before they are open, Dawn is already looking forward to the Curio hotel, which will be located in an historic building in downtown Huntsville soon—another reason to come back for a visit!

NEW MEXICO
2022 Apr 12 (Tue) – We went to the Mesalands Dinosaur Museum today.  I was surprised at how nice it was.  There is a community college in town and they got grants to provide funding for the museum. There were many artifacts and bones to tell the story of times past.  Thank goodness!  I look at those huge monsters and wonder why in the world they ever reached that size. It’s almost like it was an experiment that didn’t work out.
Following the Dinosaur Museum, we went to the Tucumcari Historical Museum.  This was a 2-story plus basement building filled to the rafters with old stuff.  Pictures, equipment, clothing, furniture, certificates, etc. were everywhere.  I saw a braille machine.  I’d never seen one before.  We saw stuff in the museum (of course) that we used in our careers. There was even a phone booth in the corner.
We went to lunch at Dels Restaurant.  It was refreshing.  Although there was a section devoted to Mexican fare, there were also American foods. Paul enjoyed the salad and soup bar and I had a chicken salad without the hoagie.
The wind was wicked today.  It was blowing from 30 to 50 mph with gusts up to 70 mph.  I hope it lets up tomorrow.  I don’t want to be driving on the open road with that kind of wind.
2022 Apr 11 (Mon) – We did several errands – got fuel, refilled the propane tank, and picked up groceries at Lowe’s Supermarket.  We stopped at Dollar General and picked up Easter cards and candy for the grandkids. Lunch was at the Pow Wow, which was a Mexican restaurant.  The food was good.  It seems like most restaurants in town are Mexican fare.
Tucumcari is one of those towns that was but is slowly sliding into oblivion. There are 4 stops on I-40 for Tucumcari so the impression is that it is a large town.  Route 66 used to run through here and the large 5-lane boulevard runs past quaint 50s style businesses.  There are names like Palomino Motel, The Apache, Blue Swallow, Tee Pee Curios, etc. There are numerous motels with the old U-shape with a pool in the center.  Many stores, gas stations, and businesses have closed up.  The interstate bypassed the town.  That was the first stroke.  Then Amtrak ceased stopping at the town.  The only thing holding the town together today are ranches and farms but they are slowly disappearing as well.  The town is dying.

2022 Apr 10 (Sun) – We pulled up stakes and left Kirtland AFB at 9:30 a.m.  It was a great drive among beautiful landscapes.  It seemed like we were in a huge bowl.  You could see mountains all around us in the distance.  And it took a very long time before we finally reached the mountains.
We arrived at the Elks Lodge in Tucumcari around 1:00 p.m.  It is a small, unpaved area in back of the lodge.  They claim they have 8 campsites but that would be incredibly tight.  They really have 4 sites.  At any rate, we are the only people here.
Tumblr media
At 5:30 p.m. we went into the lodge to pay for our site.  It is $20 a night for electric and water, no sewer hookup.  We also bought a drink, trying to pay back the lodge for their efforts to provide camping space for Elks members.  There were about six bar flies in the lodge who were pretty much already inebriated.  The lodge only opened at 4 p.m.
2022 Apr 9 (Sat) – We drove to the commissary to pick up groceries and got fuel at the station on base in preparation for our move tomorrow.
2022 Apr 8 (Fri) – We worked on negotiating with a restaurant for the welcome dinner for the WWII Reenactment Caravan in Reading, PA, next month.  After some back and forth and lots of negotiation, I think we arrived at an agreeable price.  We are waiting for the contract to be emailed to us.  We also spent the morning making campground reservations.  I called the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum (they are hosting the WWII Reenactment weekend) to buy admission tickets, tickets for the Friday and Saturday dinner and dance, and tee-shirts.   The cost to mail that to us is cost prohibitive so the agent arranged to hold the items for us to pick up.  At first, we coordinated for Monday, May 30, but it turned out the museum is closed on that day.  We asked about picking the box up on Sunday but they are also closed on that day.  We then moved back to Saturday.  That date was acceptable to everyone.  But now, we have to change other arrangements so we can be in Pennsylvania sooner.  That was a chore!
After lunch, we drove to the mall.  I bought new sneakers and bras.  Working with the clerk in the lingerie department, I found that my size has changed and I was buying the wrong size bras.  Everything should fit fine now.
After making my purchases, we drove to Camping World and La Mesa RV looking for a Camping Journal.  I have been keeping manual books with details about each campground we stay at.  We have completed 6 books since we started full-time camping in 2013.  Each book contains about a year and a quarter.  I had to go online and order books from Amazon.com since neither of the two camping stores had any in stock.
When we returned to the base, we stopped at the Exchange to pick up a bottle of Red Stag.  The girls were happy to see us back home as it was dinner time.
2022 Apr 7 (Thu) – We drove into Olde town Albuquerque today.  We walked around the area, admired Native American made crafts, bought a souvenir, and had lunch at a Mexican restaurant.  All but two of the restaurants in the area closed during COVID. Both of them offer Mexican fare.
The west is plagued with goat’s heads.  Sometimes called burrs, spurs, and dessert hornets, they are little pea sized cacti.  They are round with stickers on all sides.  The dog steps on them during walks and we have to pull them out before we can go on.  We have to check our shoes when we come in because they fall off around the RV. There isn’t a much more painful experience than stepping on one of those suckers in bare feet.
2022 Apr 6 (Wed) – We packed up and left the campground at 9:30 a.m.  the Percha Dam Campground had no dump site.  It is one of three campgrounds in the Caballo State Park.  Another of their campgrounds had a dump site so we drove over there to empty the tanks before leaving.
We arrived at Kirtland AFB FamCamp at 1:20 p.m.  They don’t accept reservations; it is first-come, first-served. When I called yesterday, they told me there were five open sites.  When we arrived today, there was a man in front of us signing in who said he just parked in a site without checking in at the office first, like we were doing. His friend had done the same thing. As a result there were only three sites for us to choose from.  But at least, we got a site.  RVs came in after us and several wound up in the dry camping area because there were no campsites available.  Glad we got here early!
Sheba caught a lizard (gecko?) yesterday.  She grabbed it and ran into the trailer.  I ran after her, trying to get her to drop the thing.  When I got hold of her, she dropped the lizard and it ran under the slide.  Now we had a situation.  If it stayed under there, it was going to be squashed when we closed up the trailer. Sheba continued trying to get the critter so I locked her in the bedroom.  Then Paul tried to lift the outer rubber lining of the slide so the lizard could get away.  That didn’t work.  After a couple of minutes, the lizard darted out and under the dog’s bed.  We spent a few minutes trying to lift the bed and grab the thing.  I finally got it and brought it outside.  When I came back in, I found its tail laying on the floor.  As a way of protecting themselves, lizards can let their tail go. It’s a method of getting away.  It usually wiggles for a little while after it lets it go.  I’m glad it was done wiggling when I found it.  Ugh. I threw it away and let Sheba ack into the living area.
2022 Apr 5 (Tue) – We drove to Truth or Consequences today.  It turns out that the town was actually named after the radio show.  They were celebrating ten successful years as a popular show and the show’s producers put out a challenge to any town that would be willing to rename itself Truth or Consequences.  Out of all the towns that showed interest, only one would be selected as the winner.  The most interesting application came from Hot Springs, NM.  After interviewing elected officials, citizens, and the state senator and president of the local Chamber of Commerce, the name change was put up to a vote; 1,294 voted for the rename; 295 voted against the change.  On April 1, 1950, the first Truth or Consequences Fiesta was staged with 10,000 people attending.  There was a large parade and people came from all over the state and even Mexico.  “T or C” has celebrated its name change annually since that date.  The Miss Fiesta Contest and other activities lead up to the first weekend in May followed by a golf tournament, parade, rodeo, and other festivities around town.  I am sorry we won’t be here next month to see this.
Tumblr media
All around the area – in all the towns we have gone through – everything is dry and dusty.  They are definitely in need of a good rainstorm.  The Caballo Reservoir is very low and many of the boat companies that rented and stored boats and jet skis have closed up.  The Rio Grande is dry in many places as are all the creeks and canals that run off the river.
2022 Apr 4 (Mon) – We drove to Hatch, NM today. It claims to be the Chili Capitol of the World.  I later saw a license plate for New Mexico that said IT was the Chili Capitol of the World.  Funny. There were chili peppers hanging everywhere.  The names of all the businesses were some derivative of peppers.  We ate at the Pepper Pot.  All eateries in town were Mexican – it was a small town with only 2 or 3 restaurants.  The town of Hatch was first settled in 1845.  The Apaches drove the settlers away until 1853 when Ft. Thorn was established for protection.  The Apaches again drove the settlers away in 1860 after the fort closed.  Settlers returned in 1875 and the town was named after General Edward Hatch, the commander of the New Mexico Military District.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After walking along Main Street and popping into a few stores to look for a souvenir, we returned to the campground.
2022 Apr 3 (Sun) – We left Willcox, AZ at 9:30 a.m. after using the dump station behind the Elks Lodge.  The drive was about 4 hours with little traffic.  The weather was clear with a little crosswind along an open area of the interstate as we crossed the border.  The scenery was gorgeous all the way with mountains all around us in the distance.  It was like we were driving through a big bowl.
Tumblr media
We arrived in Arrey, NM, around 2:30 p.m.  We are staying at the Percha Dam Campground.  It is a small state park with just 30 campsites.  Each site has a covered picnic table made of concrete on a concrete patio.  We only have 30-amp electric and water hookups.  After setup, we took a walk down by the dam.  There is basically only a trickle of water in the area.  There are many dead trees around what used to be a vibrant waterway.  The Rio Grande is dry by the time it gets down here.  We crossed a bridge over the Rio Grande on the way here and it was bone dry. There was a sign with a picture of a lush waterway on a post.  We wondered where they stole that from!
