We had a guy come to work completely shit-smashed on Saturday. Clouds of beer vapor flew off him as he spoke, and you could tell by his body language that he didn't know how far away he was from you when he spoke. Like, he would get WAYYY too close and think he was holding it together.

He's 61 years old and he's...hard not to pity. Listening to him talk was a special kind of depressing. He's not had a wife in 34 years (by choice!) and his brother died at 43 from complications from diabetes ("he was a piece of shit"). He has none of his top teeth and he's deaf in one ear. He broke three plates because when he washed dishes, he moved like he didn't know that his arms actually ended in hands. Like he was used to just having stumps. Arms that end in hooks. It was like watching someone try to drive a car with a blunt pole.

There but for the grace of God go I, right? If ever I wanted to go back to drinking...though I wouldn't fucking stink of it.

How did I end up here? With loving friends? In a walkable city? With rent I can afford? With a job I can walk to? Nobody else I know has this AND a family and it breaks my heart. It should be the norm. Goddammit. I need to find out how I can do something about this. Even if it is just to assuage my guilt and stave off this feeling that my luck will run out any day now because I've made it to 42.

We deserve better. We ALL deserve better.

Some Ambient albums I love

This one is not a lengthy take as before. Ambient music was something that I was an impatient teenager as I wasn't appreciative enough for diverse genres. In late 2008, I was able to get into that music.

It has very few beats, but it creates a slow-to-normal-paced vibe.
