In "MYLESLANDIA", it's possible for me to go back in a time machine to 1977, as who I am now and what I know now, and get a DJ/VJ Residency at Studio 54 and stay until 1984. So, in this show, I'll begin in 1977 and progress through the years to 1984 spinning the absolute best, authentic disco and dance classics that would've been welcomed at STUDIO 54 with open arms and a packed dance floor, making me a "Silver Fox" legend in the process.

45 anni fa, il 26 aprile 1977, apriva la discoteca più famosa al mondo, lo STUDIO 54. Praticamente tutte le celebrità del periodo andarono una sera a ballare nell'ex studio televisivo, alcuni diventarono clienti abituali - Andy Warhol, Liza Minnelli, lo stilista Halston, la principessa Diane von Fürstenberg, lo scrittore Truman Capote, altri facevano viaggi intercontinentali solo per esserci una sera, come la principessa Grace di Monaco. Tra gli italiani frequentatori ci furono Fellini, gli stilisti Fiorucci e Valentino. L'intuizione di Steve Rubell, socio del club con Ian Schrager, fu quella di far ballare nella stessa pista operai e star di Hollywood. Famigerata la zona balconata, antesignana delle moderne dark room, ma dove la luce era presente e illuminava uno sconsiderato uso di droghe e scene di sesso esplicito ed occasionale. In 1977, the theater was transformed into a nightclub called Studio 54 by Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager, with Jack Dushey as a financial backer. They operated the company as Broadway Catering Corp. It took only six weeks to transform the theater into a nightclub and cost $400,000 before its grand opening on April 26. Rubell and Schrager hired Scott Bromley as architect, Ron Doud as interior designer and Brian Thompson as lighting designer. Jules Fisher and Paul Marantz, two well-known lighting designers, created the dance floor environment and created moveable theatrical sets and lights using the copious existing TV lighting circuits and fly system, which allowed for a dynamic, constantly-changing, environment. Where formerly all clubs had been very dark, at Studio 54 the crowd could be lit brightly. The club was also known for its extravagance that often made headline news. Event planner Robert Isabell had four tons of glitter dumped in a four-inch layer on the floor of Studio 54 for a New Year's Eve party, which owner Ian Schrager described as like "standing on stardust" and left glitter that could be found months later in their clothing and homes. Or when, on her birthday, Bianca Jagger rode in on a white horse led by a naked man which has become one of the most famous parts of the Studio 54 legends.

At the time, the club's owners #SteveRubell & #IanSchraeger were being investigated for tax evasion among other things and decided that for the venue's last party they would go out with a bang featuring the presence of Miss Ross. As pictured, Diana is full of joy and happiness, crouched on the dj booth counter with #Disco dj pioneer #NickySiano on turntables. Directly behind her (and with his back to her) is no other than #NileRodgers (one-half of the magical duo that produced the entire "Diana" album including bassist/co-producer #BernardEdwards #RIP). It was a bittersweet time with the club's woes but an ecstatic event for Diana Ross. After that last night of fun with Diana in February of 1980, Studio 54 finally closed it's doors. The club reopened from 1981 up until 1986 when it was bought, reowned and further deemed as a concerts-only venue. Diana Ross aka #TheBoss will forever be remembered as one of 54's last moments in time. EMB
