Fossil Ray Tooth Plate Myliobatis sp Aquia Formation Palaeocene Maryland USA Genuine
Fossil Ray – Myliobatis sp. (Eagle Ray Tooth Plate)
Geological Period: Late Palaeocene (Thanetian Stage)
Age: Approximately 59 to 56 million years ago
Formation: Aquia Formation
Locality: Wades Bay, Charles County, Maryland, USA
This listing features a genuine tooth plate from Myliobatis sp., a genus of eagle ray that once inhabited the warm, shallow seas of what is now the Atlantic Coastal Plain of North America. This fossil comes from the Aquia Formation, a well-known Late Palaeocene marine deposit exposed along the Potomac River and its tributaries.
The Myliobatis tooth plate is characterised by its flat, pavement-like structure, composed of interlocking teeth adapted for crushing hard-shelled prey such as mollusks and crustaceans. These rays were part of the elasmobranch lineage, related to modern rays and sharks, and played an important ecological role in Palaeocene marine ecosystems.
The Aquia Formation, dating to the Thanetian stage of the Palaeocene, consists of glauconitic sands and silts deposited in a shallow marine environment. Fossils from this formation include a rich variety of shark teeth, ray dentition, bony fish, and marine reptiles.
Actual Specimen Pictured: The item you see is the exact fossil you will receive.
Scale: 1cm cube included in the image for accurate sizing. Please refer to the photo.
Condition: Naturally preserved and stable; some wear consistent with aquatic fossilisation processes.
Excellent for:
Fossil collectors and marine palaeontology enthusiasts
Educational and teaching collections
Natural history exhibits
Thoughtful gifts for lovers of ancient sea life
All of our Fossils are 100% Genuine Specimens & come with a Certificate of Authenticity.
We carefully select each specimen based on authenticity, scientific interest, and visual appeal.

Daily Ray Fact:
The Fiddler Ray and their relatives are thought to be the oldest ray group, which explains why they are somewhere between a shark and a ray. It is understood that rays evolved from sharks and so really the Fiddler Ray is a visual demonstration of that change in biology, The earliest known fossil rays are only 150 million years ago and whilst there are very few well preserved fossils available there are whole bodies of ancient guitarfishes which very closely resemble that of modern day Fiddler Rays.

🐟 🌊 #3 on our top 10 finds of 2024: the stingray fossil we found at American Fossil Quarry in Green River formation, Kemmerer, Wyoming!! This ancient beauty was completely encased in a huge slab and accented by some partially exposed fish. We got the opportunity to dig American Fossil as vendors at the Kemmerer Fossil Fish Expo, a worthy trip to this neat little town. At the very end of the day, we were the last vendors digging and splitting. Keith discovered the stingray on the very last split of the day (of course, and no surprise 😅—as you know, Keith’s exceptional luck only goes up as the day progresses.)
As noob Green River diggers, we didn’t really know what we were looking at in the rock—but the experts at American Fossil sure did!! They helped identify the layout of the stingray, and told us that they expected it to be almost fully intact. Thankfully, the experts at Fossil Oasis were also on the scene, and took the slab for later prepwork this winter. We’ll debut it later this season for this year’s major shows! Green River Formation has a magic spell on us, and we can’t wait to return in 2025. 🐟 🌊 #greenriver #greenriverformation #kemmererwyoming #fossilstingray #toptenfindsof2024 #americanfossilquarry #fossillake #stingray #phenomenalgems

watching some presentations on wetlands at work and hearing that the general public have a bad perception of them just from the word "swamp" blew my mind. people don't like swamps?? 😭
People who hear the word swamp and think of nothing more than a foul stinking place are fools but I pity them. They don’t know what you and I know. I want to take them by the hand and open their eyes to the way the universe expands if you will just put on some bug spray and go somewhere that might not be put on a post card.
Like do you NOT want to hear the music of crickets and cicadas ringing through a hall of cypress trees that are old enough to know god? Have you never felt the ground under your feet shiver from the sheer force of a hundred singing bull gators? Do you know that standing in a marsh that is teeming with thousands of animal lives you will never know or be able to understand all around you will make you feel alive again because your ancestors ancestors stood in the same places and felt small and enormous at the same time? I crouched in the reeds of a Saltmarsh watching a stingray eat fiddler crabs and when I turned to leave I found under my boot a fossilized tooth from an ancient horse dating to the last ice age. Mine was likely the first human hand to hold it.
It’s an absolute tragedy when a person who doesn’t realize that humanity and wetlands cannot be separated says “swamps are gross” and misses out on one of the best ecosystems in the world
#asks#wetlands#swamps#for real though get out into your wetlands and unlock part of your brain#memes

Seawing Headcanons
Seawings have the longest body of all tribes, and are the fastest swimmers. They have average length wings that are similar in shape to an albatross. Their wing shape, coupled with the drag from their heavy tails, make them the slowest fliers of all tribes. Seawings are, however, able to use ground effect to glide for long distances over land or water at reduced speed. When gliding over the ocean, Seawings can use their tails to generate speed and lift, not unlike a flying fish. Seawings are also the slowest fliers.
The illuminated scales are the only ones necessary for basic communication
Seawings have a modified flame pouch that allows them to shoot water at a high velocity, however, this skill requires years of practice. When mastered, this ability can be used to knock a low flying dragon out of the air.
Seawing War Crest:
Seawing royal markings are said to be a gift from an animus dragon, and are said to reflect the personality of the dragon who has them. They can only be seen when illuminated:
Seawings are known for their tropical fish and other ocean goods.
Seawing Stall:
This stall contains nets, seaweed fabric, stingray leather, shells, pearls, squid ink, salt, driftwood, ammonite fossils, whale bones, and fish (herring, dorado)
It is also common to see vendors selling shark leather, powdered sea hare ink, and boat charters.

Lessiniabatis aenigmatica was a rather strange stingray.
It lived around 50-48 million years ago during the early Eocene, in a shallow warm sea covering what is now Italy, with its three known fossil specimens all coming from the fish-rich Monte Bolca fossil beds.
About 60cm long (~2'), it had a round pancake-like body similar to many modern seafloor-dwelling stingrays – but uniquely it was also almost tailless, with only a tiny, slender, stingless tail.
It wasn't a particularly strong swimmer, instead probably spending most of its time buried in the muddy seafloor sediment. When on the move it likely swam along just above the surface of the seafloor using undulations of its fins, foraging for smaller bottom-dwelling animals like worms, molluscs, crustaceans, and fish.

This song is SO reader x Law coded. Specifically reader as a member of the Heart Pirates who is falling in love with her hot broody captain
Lyrics below, tell me I’m wrong….
I've gotta swim through
Give this a try
Dive off a free fall
Into the sky
My brains an urchin
My heart a stingray
I'll sink beside you
Billow up off our feet
Arms round my shoulder
Brittle star weave
Out to the ocean
Life aboard a submarine
Well I'd really like to know you
But I find it hard
To go where you are when you speak in sonar
Days from the deep end
An echo off the ocean floor
I never thought that
We'd ever come this far
Chasing a jet stream
By the fin of a shark
Gone for the weekend
Batten down the hatches for a storm
Well I'll dance beside you
Stick to the beat
Fossils in the city park
Got dolphins in my dreams
Bottom of the ocean
Samba sun on the ceiling
