I already made a post about this, but I still can’t believe someone would say Nancy being with JONATHAN would be “forced conformity.” Nancy, the rich/smart girl being with the struggling/loner boy is DEFINITELY the definition of “forced conformity” you’re soooo right. 🙃

Actually very funny when jncies say jncy does things/has a dynamic that canonically, stancy did or were like and jncy canonically doesn’t. Like it’s wild. I see you and I see your brain overheating because you want Nancy in a relationship with someone who treats her and looks at her and dreams about a future with her like Steve did and does, but you’ve dug yourself so far into a stancy hating hole that you have to invent reasons that don’t make sense and a relationship that jncy simply isn’t in order to avoid shipping stancy. Sad.

How do I feel about him?

ALL TIME FAVOURITE CHARACTER. He is the guy, he is an icon, he is my special blorb I like to chuck my music opinions on (cause we have the same taste). Ok but in all seriousness, his character complexities have captivated me and I will internally hiss at anyone who hates him

Who do I ship him with?

I mainly ship him with Nancy but I also really like Stonathan and Photocheer. Stonathan I like in a more toxic shoujo manga way but Nancy and Chrissy get to have the ‘oh so soft, oh so sad’ dynamic. Any of his romantic pairings (outside of a certain and hopefully OBVIOUS few) I love and adore and will dig for fics when I have the chance

My favourite Platonic ships for him

I love his friendship with Argyle. That’s his first real friend outside of Nancy and I will miss them so much during the s5 angst. I of course love the Byers family dynamic they tug at my heartstrings. I am very hopeful I get some Jonathan and Robin friendship crumbs in S5 cause they would 100% yap to each other about music and obscure weird French avant garde movies. it won’t happen but hey a girl can dream!

My unpopular opinions about him

None that aren’t unpopular within Jonathan fan circles but more so with his haters or. I am tired of Camera Scene™️ posts that all recycle the same argument what feels like 1000 times over. He apologized for what he and that’s all that matters (not to mention there is NOTHING in subtextual canon that says he’s a pervert). Im

Another thing is the whole Jonathan hates Mike “joke”. I am tired of seeing that characterization and really wish people would stop making it apart of his character. He doesn’t hate Mike and he never has cause he knows how much Mike cares about Will.

One thing I wish would happen/ wish had happened in canon

I just wish they’d do more with him. He’s been sidelined for far too long. Also Charlie is an amazing actor and they are seriously underutilizing him (look at how good his performance is in s1 it’s INCREDIBLE!!!!!). I do hope they do more with him in s5 and that he has a satisfying end to his character arc. I won’t expect it to be perfect but I hope it’s at least something that isn’t like killing him off or using him to benefit stncy or some shit like it

It’s absurd how similar the wheeler siblings and byers brothers are for this thematic.

Nancy forcing a relationship with someone she doesn’t love and keep acting different due to that, just like Mike.

And Jonathan trying to fix stncy and putting his feelings aside (he was really in love), just like Will (but with mlvn).

Now i get why Jonathan understood easily that Will lied in the van scene, i mean he did the same in past.

But no problem, Will will have his mike <3

them showing Mike when Will says “what if they don’t like the truth?” and Mike nodding cuz he relates to what Will was saying..

why wouldn’t El(his gf) like Mike loving her back? nah this was about the opposite this was about Mike not being able to love her back cuz yk he’s gay and being afraid of hurting her and about Mike being afraid of Will finding out he loves him which was also why he never told Will the reason of his fight with El which ironically happened the same episode of the stancy break up

and then ofc Jonathan( who’s in love with Nancy) reassured Nancy(who’s in love with Jonathan) about Steve

at the end of s1 Nancy got back with Steve but they still had relationship problems and started dating Jonathan in s2

at the end of s4 Mike got back with El but they still have relationship problems (and El is still mad at him) and he’s gonna date Will in s5(?)

I don’t know if Jonathan and Nancy are ending up together (probably) but I do know they aren’t going to the same college. They will follow their dreams.

the thing with mlvn is that it is actually not cliche, it is interesting but it is made out not to be because narratively it is not the ship that the writers want us to root for lol. same for stncy actually but i know you ship stncy so i wont say anything abt it

i agree to a certain extent but there’s intentional ambiguity with byler, miIeven, stancy, and jancy. we as an audience are guided towards a certain ship. if we were, there would be barely any discourse about this.

it’s like “it’s not my fault you don’t like girls” where the audience doesn’t know how to take it because it’s not actually clear. but people in general like to pick sides, hence the discourse. for the first two seasons, we are supposed to ship miIeven. in s3, they are portrayed negatively when they ditch their friends, whisper about hopper, and comedically break up. however, at the end of s3, they feel more mature and we’re supposed to like them again (although they do leave off on weird terms which makes it a bit less shippable at the end). s4 is where we as an audience have a dilemma. we know will loves mike, we know el loves mike, and we wait 8 episodes to find out if mike loves el. on the surface, the monologue is good and miIeven is thriving. but then we see that she’s not speaking to mike. and then there’s the most important part: the final shot. this leaves the majority of the audience wondering who will be together and who they want to be together. analyses can prove that miIeven won’t be endgame but the writers aren’t outright demonstrating this to their general audience. i could say more about the nancy love triangle but that’s off topic :)
