had a great conversation with my parents and we like rambled back and forth about the state of the world right now. specifically wages and prices and inflation. I told them how honestly stuff needs to get worse so people will finally get riled up enough to protest. Okay so I saw this post about dark percy (really him reaching his Limit and fighting full strength with everything he had) and I was imagining the potential fallout of that. Pretty bad, as you can guess.

The thing is a lot of percys strongest moments happen out of view of the olympians, especially in hoo. The hurricane atop the glacier in alaska, the poison scene in tartarus, bending the depression river and the one in the palace of nyx.

Stuff like the St Helens eruption got him washed up on an inescapable island literally removed from reality until calypso gave him the OK, the achillies curse he got tricked into losing by hera. Smaller moments, the minotaur, fighting ares, the stolen pirate ship, walking on water vs hyperion, freshwater sources, him knowing both Latin and Greek, they're more easily brushed off or at least mostly due to cunning, sword skills and sheer luck and grit.

But basically the olympians don't actually know the full extent of percys strength and divine power. They have hints - percy standing on the throne, winning against ares, his many victories - but what they aren't willing to brush aside in the heat of (an important) battle there have been pretty strong consequences for.

Heck, just look at Frank, he's no prodigy with weapons, he's polite and respectful, but his distant relation to two olympians letting him inherit shapeshifting earned him direct divine meddling and his life force tied to a hunk of half toasted firewood. Man is a honey bear with lactose intolerance and he was punished with a mythical death curse for being too strong.

If Percy's true strength came out, he would risk losing everything. His freedom, most certainly. If he wasn't straight up executed he might wind up in a Greek myth style imprisonment, the way of atlas, prometheus, calypso, or something like the myriad of ways Greek heroes met their end. Good scenario he survives a dozen curses and gets on with life with a dozen new disabilities, best case scenario he's stripped of every inch of divine power and dropped back to the mortal world, not even clear sighted. Total separation from the Greeks and Romans. Oh, annabeth would marry him either way, and his friends would hardly abandon him despite the gods wishes, but they'd hardly be able to see him, and no long range contact without the ability to IM him or vice versa.

All of that to say Percy is hiding his true strength from the gods themselves - maybe not consciously, and it's not even power he particularly wants - but if they ever find out?

It's game over.

But why is he so strong? I don't know. What I do know is that the half bloods of the books are so much stronger than the ones of myth. Used to be that divine blood would get you divine favour and a great fate whether you liked it or not. Maybe some cunning and bow skills. A spot of spell casting if you were really lucky. Achillies got his curse after he was born, Perseus had a dozen magic artifacts, orpheus had something going on but hercules is to my knowledge an outlier. Now? Everyone in camp has some special power. Flight, fire, necromancy, hypnotism, dream walking etc. However it's happening, half bloods are slowly but surely getting a lot, lot stronger every century that passes. Meta? I mean I guess. But.

What no one has done before is something that their godly parent couldn't.

Except.

Except Percy.

Except Percy, in tartarus, at his mental, emotional and physical limit, controlling poison with his mind, overpowering the goddess of poison in her home, making misery choke on misery. Feeling something in his chest crack. Doing something poseidon could not, and doing it better than the person who could.

Down there, hidden away from the gods, he evolved. For that brief moment, he did something, was something new.

#1.) This is, without a doubt, going to be the most important and instrumental election in American history.

#2.) Like it or not, the American Political System is a two party race. It wasn't supposed to be, sure.

But for right now it is. There's no ifs and or buts about it. The system is set up so that a third party candidate cannot win.

Every single vote that isn't counted for Kamala is a vote for Trump.

I don't care how leftist, or how progressive you think you are, if you're not willing to vote for Kamala then you're a Trump supporter.

If you are not loudly rallying behind and supporting Kamala, who is very likely our one and only chance of hope and progress, then you should either be quiet about it or else you are a Trump supporter.

If you're not willing to be an active participant in our society with how it works right now, then sit down and shut up and don't complain about anything.

If you think that they’re both equally bad then you must be privileged enough to feel safe in Trump’s America.

It’s a privilege for you to even consider voting third party or to consider throwing your vote away and not using it. It’s entitlement.

You feel safe saying that they’re the same.

But for us poor people, us queer and trans people, us disabled people, and for people of colour, for Palestinians and Ukrainians, and so so many more people, Trump’s America would not be safe.

Kamala could be our only chance at preserving our democracy and if you're not supporting her just for the sake of your own selfish performative white knighting about your "morals" trying to make yourself look good?

Then the only person you're benefiting is Trump.

So you're a Trump supporter.

If being called that doesn't feel good to you then maybe analyse why that is.

If being called a Trump supporter makes you upset, stop doing things that support him.

Like it or not, your vote matters. This means that your vote can be used to sway the election. Now, of the two main choices, you've got Biden, a senile old man who has, during his presidency, been: ineffective and inactionable in regards to the changes that people have actually been pushing: He's done jack shit to codify Roe v. Wade, instead making it one of his new campaign promises (I wonder why, we'll get back to that), he's done nothing for marginalized groups within America, he's allowed Covid to perspire, and he's been actively fucking over the people in Palestine. During his presidency harmful bills like KOSA, various anti-mask bills, drag bans, etc., have all been gallivanting around because Biden will not do anything about it (or do anything about the other issues also partying as if America might as well be the playground for fucked up shit), even though it would be well within his power. Now, this isn't to say Biden hasn't been exercising his power. He has, to send weapons and ammunition over to Israel, actively perpetuating the genocidal onslaught of the Palestinian people.

Now, (and for obvious reasons), none of this is to say Trump would be any better. Trump would be a lot more active in doing things than Biden. He would be active in making it all worse. If you had to rank Biden and Trump, Biden would be marginally better.

Maybe, in some incredibly simplified universe where nothing else is taken into account, this image holds up.

Here's the thing, which it appears a significant majority of you have seemed to just. Forgotten. Third parties exist!

I'm specifically talking about Cornel West (part of the Justice for All Party). For those of you wondering why he's relevant at all (ok so obligatory tangent biden and trump would not be people you cared about were they not running for president (except those diehard home alone 2 fans i guess)) and what history he has to back himself up, he's the guy who wrote Race Matters, a really fucking good analysis on racism and the plethora of intertwined issues within the US, and a lot more. It's a really good read, and if you haven't read it yet I would suggest you read or listen to it or what have you. Race Matters also happens to actively support Palestine, and also, you know, a lot of other marginalized groups. Ultimately, Cornel West is a really fucking great guy (most based politician I've seen so far) and you should look into him on your own time.

He's most certainly a better choice than either Biden or Trump.

At this point in this vaguely length piece of text, your discontentment may have grown. Cornel West is a third party, and this makes him unlikely to get voted into office. And yet, your vote counts.

You can vote Cornel West into office. It's genuinely so absurd that so many people have just sort of. Forgotten how democracy works?????? If you want someone like this man in office, you vote for this man! Democratic voters have been playing damage prevention for much too long, and under this damage prevention election system (and also yall not giving a shit about the primary elections, stop doing that) rights movements and the power they hold has been ever stagnating. Hi just a random question who do you think will be the Ghostface in the Eternals without Sprite because she kinda was the Ghostface in the movie💀 if you ever watched Scream.

So, I admit I haven't watched Scream. And I haven't really kept up with other Eternals stuff, like from the comic books or anything. I always think the movies are different enough that they have to be treated like a totally separate entity anyway.

I kind of liked the way they did Sprite's conflict. She obviously was the most internally conflicted besides Ikaris, and that inner struggle she dealt with is more realistic to a very lonely character than a 'superhero'.

Honestly, I would like to see what they do with Eros. Maybe this is personally, but I would love to see him be a more self-driven character, whether that means being a traitor or a sell-out or whatever. I'd rather that than the weird flirting he had going on with Thena at the end of the first movie, at least.
