SUCCESS!
Tumblr media
aka the project that I
started... a while ago
mostly finished (literally five tassels to go)
ignored for (mumble) duration because I was out of the thread I needed for the last of the tassels
is FINISHED!
because, as it turns out as I was organizing my craft stuff this morning, I either
a. never was out of dmc #437 floss in the first place
b. restocked and forgot I did that
(either are, to my great chagrin, possible, although I'm leaning towards b)
BUT
it's done now, hooray~
and the bookmark pile gets another addition courtesy of a pattern older than I am from my MIL's stash of old cross stitch magazines and some cloth scraps leftover from a previous project ^_^

Ibex Clone – All Channels Clear LP (Goner)
Pretty solid debut from the remaining three-fourths of Hash Redactor, a fun Memphis band that didn't really have the directional pull of what they're driving at now, which points towards the historical re-enactment of a band that might've opened for R.E.M. at the Antenna Club way back when. The flangey guitar and wheedlin' stringbend technique, general slow-midtempo autumnal melancholy and Alec McIntyre's vocal decisions put this firmly in the wheelhouse of dogeared, clip-cornered, marked-up records that have survived college radio station purges (or survive today in private homes) since the '80s, evidence of some impassioned level of debate for/against (or in specific cases, debates on For Against) still affixed. There's a little Polvo in the slipperiness and southern-ness of these tracks, a lot of Bob Mould in the vocals, and the general demeanor of a band in the throes of the past, c/o Slovenly, My Dad Is Dead, Honor Role, the Middle Class LP, and so on. Ex-Nots and ex-Ex-Cult, Ibex Clone gives off a sense of the grandeur in finality that one wouldn't normally associate with the molotov of Goner Records, but it's set in stone now, decaying nature from which something new will surely grow. Note: Abstain from Black Friday to protest terrible working conditions and unrealistic and toxic employer expectations? Rest assured that we here at The Little Yarn Shop do this because we love it, and not because we are forced into it by uncaring employers. The two of us run everything on our own, and would welcome some orders to keep us busy!

How much focus do you put on practicing string bends & slides? I focus a lot on these, particularly on intonation. These 2 techniques (along with vibrato, of course) bring the soul to your playing. They create a passionate framework for your blazing shred phrases to really sing. Aside from blues greats like SRV & Gilmour, a couple of notable artists are Satriani (who uses a ton of quick slides to make melody lines feel more like a voice), Yngwie's use of string bending in his early work, and of course Steve Vai. And if you listen to Hindustani music...those guys are UNREAL with precise intonation of compound bends and quick slides. - - - - - #ethnicshred #shredguitar #guitarshred #guitarsolo #improvisation #guitarist #shred #guitar #fusion #guitaristsunite #guitarhero #guitarplaying #guitarporn #guitarshred #iloveguitars #guitaristsofinstagram #guitarrista #alternatepicking #legato #stringbending #satriani #stevevai #yngwie (at Austin, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3LZIpADu2S/?igshid=11jo0tllswjdz

(via B-Bender - Wikipedia)
A B-Bender is a guitar accessory that enables a player to mechanically bend the B-string up by as much as a minor third (three frets). There are several different designs, but all use levers or pulleys inside or outside the guitar body that are activated by a pull or push of the guitar neck, body, or bridge. The resulting tone sounds much like a pedal steel guitar and contributes a "country" feeling. Originally designed for the Fender Telecaster, B-Benders are now available to fit many solid body electric guitars, and even acoustic guitars.
The B-Bender was invented in 1968 by musicians Gene Parsons and Clarence White of Nashville West and The Byrds. The device was originally called the Parsons/White Pull-String, later renamed the StringBender, and is now best known as the B-Bender...
@rrrick   B-Benders are way cool.

Silver Balladeer (Bard Archetype)
Tumblr media
Association is everything in magic. From ingredients brewed in potions to the bear fur used in constitution-boosting spells, the association that various things have helps shape the magic that you are trying to employ.
Silver, for example, is associated with the moon and lycanthropy, as well as other supernatural beings, and is where the use of weapons made from the soft metal to kill such beings comes from. It’s vibrant reflectiveness and conductivity (even more conductive than gold!) also gives it an association with channeling energy. Add it’s antiseptic properties, the very same of which make it perfect for use as eating and cooking utensils, give it an association with purity and the cleansing of corruption.
The fact that silver also produces good resonance when used in musical instruments is the very basis of today’s archetype, as the silver balladeers utilize instruments containing silver to channel special performances that take advantage of those associations. These musicians produce songs that are the bane of foul magic and supernatural assailants alike.
I imagine that this archetype most likely developed in lands with a strong occult tradition and which faces the regular threat of curses, lycanthropes, invading fiends, and the like. Perhaps inspired by a clear ringing note of a silver bell sending a werewolf or even a ghawwas div into conniptions. Regardless, these bards pack a powerful, if expensive toolset in the fight against evil.
As long as they have a silver instrument, (be it silver-stringed or a silver resonating chamber or what have you), a silver balladeer can utilize various special bardic performances. The first of which lets them suppress or even break curses if they can maintain the performance’s effectiveness for a continuous moment.
Another allows them to set up divine vibrations in doors and walls nearby, warding them from entry by undead or fiends, even if they are incorporeal.
Later on, they can even suppress and remove curses from multiple people at once.
The purity that these bards channel through their music rubs off on them, warding them against foul magic and spells that subvert the will.
What’s more, they also have a keen understanding of the mystical associations of silver, and can use it in expanded ways, using silver weapons to also slay creatures vulnerable to cold iron, negating the weaknesses of silvered weapons, and even becoming even more deadly with a mithral weapon, should they possess one.
An interesting archetype for the bard, this option works best in a gothic horror setting with werewolves and demons and undead, as well as plenty of curse-slinging mages running around. It still retains much of bardic goodness to be used in other situations as well, so my recommended build would probably involve defensive buffs to help keep allies safe from undead and fiends, and maybe taking some options to strike back with a silver weapon in hand.
Now, as this archetype requires and suggests with its abilities, it is only available to good characters, though I imagine that an evil version could exist out there somewhere. In any case, the important thing to remember about this archetype is that by itself, these bards don’t have any special offensive ability against the creatures of the night aside from their buffs to silvered weapons. As such, the primarily fulfill the role of protectors and healers. I can imagine them being kindly and jovial in their daily lives, but turn deadly serious when evil comes to light, leading allies and innocents to safety and warding shelters from hordes of the undead.
Uninterested in his species’ domineering rule, Axphalon the syrinx left behind his aerie-city in favor of travelling the world, desiring nothing more than to wander and compose songs of the sun, the moon, and the seasons. Along the way, he picked up on the secrets of blending the magics of silver into his works, playing a silver clarinet.
Despite the best efforts of gods and mortals, an oblivion ooze has appeared on the world of Talmuth. As nations are stripped bare and their defenders recreated as soulless simulacra, the race is on to gather a resistance to push the life-ending horror back, including seeking out the greatest bard known, a wandering performer with a silver violin, her music not only weakening the ooze itself, but providing some protection against its servants.
Clavos Stringbender is not only a brilliant musician, but also an expert crafter of instruments. His latest project involves creating a set of silver chimes for a silver balladeer. However, the client specifically requested that the silver be mined from night side of the Plane of Free Wilds.
