Hey everyone!

Happy New Year! This year was incredibly crazy, stressful, and brought about a lot of anxiety and in that time a lot of us spent even more time online and immersed ourselves in fandom to help us get through quarantine(s). So, here’s a look back at the past year in this fandom.

Let’s first go all the way back to January. It seems so long ago but in January of this year, the fandom went through a mini-implosion when Sebastian Stan posted this on his Instagram:

It brought about a whole slew of memes and, if nothing else, it did give some level of vindication for the fandom.

Moving on, in March of this year we had our stucky appreciation month with all of you posting many amazing work:

Then, on May 17th of this year, stucky reached a huge milestone with 50,000 fics on archive of our own 🥳:

In august of this year, we did a fandom survey where we better found out how the opinions and stats of people in the fandom and learned more about the fandom as a whole.

In September, Francis Lee, the director of the movie God’s Own Country had this to say about Steve and Bucky:

Then, on October 20th, Wikipedia put the stucky article as their featured article of the day. Furthermore, Wikipedia chooses articles to be their featured article based on this: "Featured articles are considered to be some of the best articles Wikipedia has to offer, as determined by Wikipedia's editors. They are used by editors as examples for writing other articles. Before being listed here, articles are reviewed as featured article candidates for accuracy, neutrality, completeness, and style, according to our featured article criteria."

On archive of our own, the number of fics (when not logged in to the site), went from 46,643 on December 31, 2019 to 51,708 fics on December 31, 2020. The number of new non-restricted fics this year was 5,065.

When logged into archive of our own, we went from 47,450 on December 31, 2019 to 53,507 on December 31, 2020. The number of new fics in total (including the fics you need to be logged in to read) was 6,057.

Stucky went from #16 on tumblr’s year in review Top 100 ships. This year, stucky dropped to #18 but was the only marvel ships in the top 20.
