Craft Beer Design

RESEARCH: PASSION PROJECT 2.0

I'm not going to lie, my decision to come up with a concept and design for my husband’s homebrewed beer is an intimidating thought.  I chose this for my passion project to set myself a challenge as well as developing my technical skills.  Package design is a fairly new area for me but I am enjoying the research process so far.  I'm actually not a big drinker, but I do find myself drawn to the craft beer aisle in the supermarket just to have a look at all the different designs - and there are literally hundreds to choose from! 

Until this point I have focussed my attention on the history of beer brewing and design which has been really useful in terms of educating myself on the industry and its roots.  I am now moving on to look at craft beer as we know it today and starting to carve out my own path in terms of design. 

I found this video from YouTube really interesting in terms of ideas to make your design stand out in a really crowded marketplace, its definitely a good starting point.

Project 2.2  

I wanted to draw the habitat of the snails that I made. Doing some quick research and from observing the snails from before I looked at certain plants that a lot of the snails were around and eating. 

In my enclosure I have egg shells (calcium, to help growth and to make their shell stronger), sticks and bark is used for them to climb on which I found they enjoy (move a lot more) doing when presented with them, apples are their favourite fruit to eat as well as asparagus from what I’ve seen. I put a few inches of dirt in the ground as well as growing moss and rocks - smooth and rough. I noticed that they often like sleeping on the ceiling of the container as well as under big leaves and near the rocks. I spray them once a day so that they stay moist - they have been growing a lot and have been really active when I do.
