Redesigning Dapplemist's Family pt. 1
As part of my love of cat genetics, I have been trying to challenge myself to recreate the cats of my favorite oc family tree using more realistic genetics than what Sims 3 uses without using certain mutations to just explain away just how many male torties are in the sims 3 made cats. There's also some newer characters I apparently made last time I attempted to map out genes. So you all will get to see them further down the line(might decide to make a new series involving some of those characters, but no guarantee.
Anyway, first up is Stumpyripple.
He looks a bit different from his original design. That's because the Sims 3 Japanese bobtail preset defaults to a calico. Since his mate is black-based, and both his daughters are torties, I decided to get rid of his black patches and make him red-based. He's still mostly white, giving him S/S homozygosity, and he's genetically solid since his patches were soild in the original sims 3 design. Red-based cats, even when genetically solid, always display stripes. I gave him spotted tabby markings on his ginger spots, mostly because I was debating if I wanted to make Dapplemist ticked like her sims 3 design or spotted. For the sake of later down the line, he's also carrying for sepia point, so keep that in mind.
Next is his lovely mate Fawnpond.
This is as red as I can get her in the picrew rn. She's a ruddy(black based with high rufousing that makes her look more red) abyssinian. I have to look up breed standards for her to see how close to purebred I could make her. I think the only part of her genetics that's outside of the standard for Abyssinian was her agouti locus. Abyssinians tend to always be ticked tabbies from what I found, and Fawnpond has to carry an allele for solid in order for Whiteear to be solid like her father.
She is homozygous for everything else, except her white spotting(S/w for low white) and where there are gaps because breed standards and future generations haven't filled them in yet. She could be "b/b,D/D" or "b/bl,D/d", but we don't have to know unless a recessive is need further down the line. Which is the perks of leaving these gaps to slot recessives in when needed.
Now, time for the only children this couple had. Personally, I would love to make a third child just to see if we can fill Fawnpond's blanks or not, but I will probably leave that to a poll.
Anyway...
Dapplemist is a mostly ruddy tortie. In the end, I decided to make her ticked so her mother could stay homozygous ticked. The picrew doesn't have an option for the little white speckles, so I drew them on myself. There will be moments where I alter the final picture from the picrew to better fit the design of the character. Now, the white speckles could be vitiligo, but I know nothing about how that inherits, so I'm just gonna say these are a part of her white spotting. Also, for future reference, she's carrying that allele for sepia point from Stumpyripple.
The picrew didn't have big asymmetrical white patches on the face, so I made a separate version where all the black patches were white and just added the white by her ear that way. I don't know if this is a possible white spotting option, but it gives her her namesake. Just like with Stumpyripple, she's genetically solid because her original design was, and her ginger fur displays tabby markings despite that.
I fear when I get to her children... two male torties and a black and white molly... the daughter is the most genetically possible due to her mother being a tortie and her father being a black and white tom.
Hope you guys enjoy these designs.

Part 4 of my attempts to map genes for an old family tree of cat ocs from the sims 3.
First thing's first, updates. No, I will not make these cats in the sims 4. I, personally, don't like cats as much in sims 4 as I do sims 3. I do have human versions of Whiteear, Dapplemist, Dapplemist's mate, and Dapplemist's 3 children from that one time I tried to use them in a destined legacy challenge or something like that.
Next, I went back and redid Fernpond, Dapplemist, and Whiteear thanks to your feedback rejuvenating my motivation to work on this. Welcome back, by the way.
Not much of a change from her old design, just a slight alteration to her ticking to make her heterozygous instead of homozygous. I've pretty much decided that her mother met all the standards for a "purebred" abyssinian, but her father was very much not up to standard. He could pass as much as Fernpond does physically, but he had the recessive non-ticked and solid alleles that got passed down to Fernpond.
And the breeder who sold Fernpond was probably scammed when buying an abyssinian tom for her queen, so had no idea she sold Fernpond as "purebred" abyssinian when she's not.
Fernpond got out one day and met a stray tom cat who would show her around the nearby forest, and that's how Dapplemist and Whiteear came to be <3.
Fernpond was a kittypet and Stumpyripple was a stray, hence how I treated their need or lack thereof to align with a breed standard.
Dapplemist was also a simple change. I switched her to a spotted tabby for that dappled look, and got rid of her white speckles. Since she's no longer ticked, her mother has to be heterozygous to give her that ta to avoid going straight to ticked town.
Whiteear, however, was quite a big change. I was determined to keep the single white ear, so I ended up making her high white instead of low.
This does mean all her children will have high white now, because her mate is also high white. But hey, that just means I have a way to cover up the headache that is Brindle and Hawk's male tortie-ness.
Now, I will save Whiteear's mate for when I map out his genes. But, to avoid having another part with just a single cat, here's Swarmfur, Dapplemist's mate.
He is a dark grey spotted tabby with green eyes. He has to have a little white because of one child who has high white in them, so I put it on his muzzle. He's carrying cinnamon, solid, longhair, and colorpoint(siamese, I just hate calling it that) for cats further down the bloodline.
Hope you enjoy my ramblings. My family finds most of my cat gene ramblings annoying, except the one time I explained to my mom how my aunt got a fluffy lil munchkin from a hairless mama cat.
That little kitty is 13-15 years old now(I don't remember her age), and I haven't seen her in a long time. Mom says she's doing pretty well despite the problems tiny legs can cause.
oh hELL yes!! looking great!!
sorry your family sucks :\ sometimes its better just to not talk to them about any interests & leave them wondering why you never open up lol

Thanks to this cat genetics hyperfixation, I have decided to go back and redesign a family tree from an old warrior cats series I used to post on a different Tumblr account. The series was about two former kittypet sisters who venture out into the forest after the passing of their mom, one of the sisters being inspired by the stories their mother used to tell them.
I used the sims 3 for visuals, so the characters weren't always genetically accurate. Especially on one particular branch of the main family tree-
For this redesign, I have decided to provide myself a challenge: how close can I get to the original designs while making the cats genetically possible.
The rules:
1) more important characters have their designs prioritized
2) no mutations (ie xxy, chimera, somatic)(with one exception that comes later in the tree)
3) additional scars/accessories are allowed to make each cat unique
First cat on the tree is Stumpyripple. He is the father of the two main characters, and a sort of Starclan guide while the girls build their clan.
He was originally a Japanese bobtail, using the sims 3 preset of the same name. He wouldn't be a purebred, and I couldn't find any breed standards for them anyway. Since he has to lose either his black patches or his red ones, I had to look at his mate and daughters' colors. Both daughters are torties, and his mate is black-based, so he gets to keep his red coloring. He's also genetically solid, since his og design was solid, but I gave him spotted tabby markings for fun.
He still has his Jb to have his bobbed tail, but he has to be heterozygous, since one of his daughters doesn't have a bobbed tail.
He's also carrying sepia, because apparently when I decided to extend the tree awhile back, I made his granddaughter mink.
Hope you enjoy my ramblings, especially once I get to a dreaded part of the tree that even in my last attempt to map the genetics of this tree I decided to ignore it.
This is going to be an interesting ride.
Oh fuck yeah these are SO fun let's go
I love seeing these <33 it's so fun to revisit old ocs too
(here's Japanese Bobtail breed standards in case you want them. not that you need them lol it's more "realistic" for him to just have the gene on its own, but there ya go!)

Part 2 of attempting to redesign an old sims 3 wcoc family tree. Last ask was Stumpyripple, this time we have his mate Fawnpond.
Fawnpond is meant to be an Abyssinian, and that's what the preset I originally used was called. I tried my best to research breed standards for her, but she's probably still not meeting all the standards.
I can't find any abyssinian examples that are solid, so I'm guessing they are always homozygous for agouti. Which means Fawnpond doesn't follow that particular breed standard, since one of her daughters is solid and needs a non-agouti allele from Fawnpond.
I, sadly, can't get her as ruddy as I'd like in the picrew, but just know that she's a chocolate ticked with high rufousing and low white.
Also, she's homozygous jb/jb in order to not have a bobbed tail, since her mate and daughters will have this information listed.
That's all there really is for Fawnpond. I think she showed up in the story as a starclan cat, but I don't remember exactly. Her stories of the forest are what leads her daughters out into the wild though.
Hope you enjoyed my ramblings, and hopefully I can space these out enough to not be accidentally spamming you.
Next time, we'll be getting into the main girls from the story, and they come with a few questions about white spotting, so that'll be fun.
Yep! All Abyssinians are ticked, that means no pesky nonagouti alleles in the genome. but we can play pretend...... ;3
Sorry about the lack of ruddy in the picrew ;v; I want to add it but I'm struggling with how to approach doing so w/the way its set up. One day there will be ruddy!!

Redesigning Dapplemist's Family pt. 2
According to the poll, next up is Dapplemist's branch of the tree.
I've already gone over Dapplemist herself in part 1. She's a ticked torbie with low white and brown eyes.
Her mate is Swarmfur, a dark grey spotted tabby with green eyes. He doesn't have any white in his original design, but Birchbug has high white on one of their genotypes, so their father has to have at least a little white. That's pretty much it for him, appearance-wise.
For the sake of cats further down the line, he's also carrying for cinnamon, solid, classic, longhair, and colorpoint(aka siamese point, but I hate calling it that).
Dapplemist and Swarmfur have 3 kits. Just like Whiteear, funnily enough.
The most well-known of their kits, by which I mean they have shown up in multiple posts, is Birchbug. They were originally designed as a Dappleswarm hypokit by @lurking-in-windclan-camp. Because the original design was not made by me or the sims game, Birchbug was the only exception to my "no mutations" rule for these redesigns. Birchbug's original design can be completely possible, as long as they are a chimera.
A chimera is the result of two embryos fusing in the womb, the resulting child having two genotypes instead of one, and different areas can express one genotype or the other. This is why I said "one of Birchbug's genotypes" while talking about Swarmfur.
The first genotype gives them black fur and high white, while the second genotype gives them blue fur and low white. Both are solid, Dapplemist is carrying "a" solid from Stumpyripple, and Swarmfur can also be carry "a". Dapplemist has to be carrying "d" dilution from one of her parents(doesn't matter which) in order for one of Birchbug's genotypes to be "d/d" on the dilution allele. Both genotypes are shorthair, which could get the "L" from either parent. one genotype is carrying for classic, and one is carrying Swarmfur's "cs" for colorpoint for future reference.
Next is Paledust, she was from my sims 4 warriors destiny series that never got finished after the third child got taken away due to lag on my old computer. Paledust is a trans girl, as well as a lesbian. The sims 4 character had pale blonde hair and green eyes, so I gave her cat version cream fur. She also has low white, and long fur.
That "d" from Dapplemist makes a return, so even if Birchbug had been a fully black cat, she'd have still needed to carry for dilution to give to Paledust. Since Paledust was born X/Y, she can only receive a single "O" or "o" depending on what Dapplemist can give her, since Swarmfur gave her his "Y". Dapplemist is a tortie, so has a "O" to give her daughter to make her ginger.
She is also a heterozygous ticked tabby, so "Ta" from Dapplemist and "ta" from Swarmfur.
Both parents are carrying "l" for longhair now so that Paledust can be "l/l".
The last child is Blossomwind. Just like Paledust, she's originally from my sims 4 Warriors Destiny series. She was the child that got taken away, I believe. I drew her as a cat awhile back, where I had decided to make her mink and a torbie. I don't think she was ticked at the time, but she is now. This is also where the point genes get to come out.
Just like Dapplemist, she's a chocolate torbie. So she gets her mother's "b" for chocolate and "O" for ginger. Swarmfur can only give his "o", which makes her a tortie. She also gets a "A" from either parent to make her a tabby, and "Ta" from Dapplemist to make her ticked. She's the only Dappleswarm child without white on her, so she gets each parent's "w" instead of either's "S".
For her mink, she gets "cs" from Swarmfur and "cb" from Dapplemist. One colorpoint and one sepia point allele makes mink point, which I personally find really cool.
Hope you enjoyed my redesigns and rambling about genetics. The next part will come after a few polls and random cat designing posts.

Anything seen in these cats that's not in the picrew(like Dapplemist's white speckles or Birchbug's whole chimerism thing) are alterations I made in MSpaint and, in my opinion, are relatively easy to replicate yourself in any art program that can paint or copy and paste.

As I was going through my save for New Tales of the Forest, I noticed that I have way too many cats sitting in Starclan than I'd probably ever use in these stories. I went through and selected a few to keep, and decided to leave the rest to you guys to decide. There's alot of cats, so there will be five cats per poll(except the very last poll), and the winner of the poll will stay in Starclan for future use.

A New Leader for a New Clan

Boulder opened his eyes to strange new surroundings. The sand beneath his paws twinkled with starlight. “Where... am I?”

“You’re in Starclan.” Boulder jumped as a calico tom padded forward, his pelt filled with stars just like the ground he walked on.
“Stumpyripple!” Boulder was startled by Whiteear’s shout, he hadn’t realized the molly had been there too.

“It’s great to see you again, Whiteear.” Stumpyripple purred as he nuzzled his daughter. “I see you found the test we’d provided.”
“Test?” Boulder looked at him in confusion. “What test? And test for what?”
Stumpyripple chuckled at the younger tom’s questions. “Why, that dog you dealt with rather swiftly, of course.” He purred. “Proving you are brave and strong enough to lead the new Grottoclan into a thriving clan!”
-----o-O-o-----

Stumpyripple purred as he steps up and touches noses with Boulder. “With this life, I give you bravery. Use it well to defend your clan from even the most treacherous of foes.”
Boulder felt a rush of energy flow through his body from nose to tail tip.
Next, a brown molly stepped forward.

“With this life, I give you compassion, so you may care for your fellow clan cats as if they were family. For they are.” The molly spoke in a sweet motherly tone.
Finally, a large brown tabby with black stripes stepped forward.

“With this life, I give you wisdom. Use it to guide your clan well.”
“Starclan welcomes you as Boulderstar, leader of Grottoclan!” Stumpyripple announced.

A Scolding From Starclan

“A medicine cat shouldn’t take on a mate, much less have kits!” Fernpond yowled. “It’s against the code!”
“Why?” Whiteear tilted her head. “What’s so wrong with the clan’s healer having kits? I can teach them my knowledge for future generations. Especially if they decide to be healers as well. Or even caretakers.”

“But what if you end up putting the lives of your kits over the lives the rest of the clan?” Burrstorm questioned.
“Most of the clan are my family, so that’d be rather unlikely to happen.” Whiteear retorted. “Besides, Levi knows everything you’ve taught me. If I’m unable fulfil certain duties, either as a healer or as a mother, she will help.

“She has a point.” Stumpyripple spoke calmly as he padded up to the group. “Multiple medicine cats could come in handy if one is ever out of commission. And it’s not like we told her before that medicine cats aren’t allowed to have kits.” He looked to Whiteear. “You’ll get a pass for this, Whiteear. But please, until you have trained an apprentice to take your place, don’t have any more kits.”
Whiteear frowned and nodded. “I understand.”

Starclan’s Visit

Amber eyes opened to sand beneath paw and walls of stone. Whiteear didn’t recognize this place at all, but the starlight mixed in the sand led her to believe it must be special.
“Whiteear.” The ginger molly jumped as a deep voice spoke nearby. She whipped around to see a calico standing before her, his pelt sparkling with starlight. “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you.”

“Who are you?” Whiteear spoke up, looking at the tom before her. “And where am I?”
“I’m Stumpyripple.” The tom purred, amusement in his amber gaze. “And you are currently in Starclan’s hunting grounds.”
“Starclan?” The word almost caught in Whiteear’s throat as she repeated it. That was the place from Fernpond’s stories! But... did that mean... “Am... Am I dead then?” Her voice was barely a whisper.
Stumpyripple chuckled softly at the ginger molly. “No. You’re perfectly safe, asleep by the moon stones.” He explained. “Sometimes Starclan can bring living cats here in their dreams. Just as I have brought you here in your dream.”
“Why?” Whiteear was a bit bewildered. “Why me? Why not bring Dapplemist? She’d love this place.”
“Your sister will visit in time. But there is a very important reason why Starclan chose you in particular.” Stumpyripple stepped forward and nuzzled the ginger molly. “If you two are to live up to your mother’s dreams of clan life, you will need a medicine cat. We believe you are the perfect choice to learn about herbs and how to heal sick and injured cats.”

Creating Cats for Future stories pt. 1
I figured it would be nice to show some cats I’ll be using for various storylines in the future. As of writing this post, I have yet to start the new story, but will start soon.
Also, nobody has submitted a cat for me to add yet, so the first 5 parts of this are just cat families I created to toss into the game as a selection for who to start with.
Hope you enjoy ~ Dove
Edit: I decided a couple of days after writing this post that I’d post these separate from the queue.

AFoT: BG - Story 3
Newleaf - moon 2
“From this moment on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be kown as Strikepaw!" Redstar announced. "Stumpyripple will be your mentor." The excited ball of grey fur eagerly touched noses with the tailless tortoiseshell tom.
Streamsong purred softly as she watched her daughter become an apprentice. She planned to stay in the nursery a bit longer to help Levi with her bunch. The four black and white kittens were a rambunctious group, much like their father Ravenpelt had been as a kit. The silver molly purred softly as she looked over at the kits, batting a ball of moss at each other.
Streamsong took a bite of her fish, it tasted a bit off. "Huh... must be from yesterday's ca-" The molly was cut off from her ponderings as she began to cough violently, stomach turning. She caught a glimpse of Windrobin hurrying over, then her vision faded to black as she passed out in front of the young medicine cat.
